Best Restaurant Dishes Eater NY Editors Ate This Week, June 2025 | Eater NY

"A generously sized, classic chicken cutlet sandwich — chicken cutlet with mozzarella, roasted peppers, and balsamic vinegar ($15) — served as a huge sub that’s easy to split. The chicken is nicely breaded, the mozzarella thick and fresh, and the roasted peppers are juicy and slightly tangy; the complimentary top slice of bread is notably spongy and finished with balsamic, making for a filling, nostalgic lunch." - Nadia Chaudhury

Top tier Italian deli. Great guys behind the counter. Food and ingredients are always fresh and delicious. You can’t get quality quantity and reasonable prices anywhere. You can at Mona Lisa. Best deli in Westchester.

If you appreciate great Italian pasta as well as delicious prepared lasagna, stuffed shells, zucchini stuffed with ricotta cheese and bread crumbs as well as really perfectly aged cheeses , meats and a phenomenal selection of Italian oils and vinegar, you have to visit Mona Lisa Salumeria! I’ve lived near this extraordinary shop for many years and when you arrive you’ll be greeted ( most likely) by Chris and Mike who will provide you with such wonderful service, you’ll think that you must be old friends! My wife loves their artichoke hearts but I’m sure you’ll find all kinds of wonderful edible and delicious treats that will make you want to keep returning to buy more of their wonderful products.. They also have an extensive selection of wonderful Italian cookies as well as all kinds of beverages!

These are good sammiches. Ordered from UberEats. Enjoyed it so much, ordered again a few days later. Nice work, folks. First a turkey and then a roast beef. Good bread, fresh toppings. Very nice quality. Thanks!!

Google
this place has the best sandwiches. Best platters. Love the friendly staff. Owners wife is such sweet and kind woman. 10000/10

Google
I must say customer service at its finest. I ordered their famous Italian combo and door dash messed up the order. So I re ordered again the wrong order. I called the deli and the owner was willing to give me a free sandwich on his behalf. I just can’t drive down as Inam on zoom work calls all day. Although I was unable to taste the food the hospitality is 10/10. Being in hospitality for 19 years I’m pleased. I suggest ordering from them just because of their customer service skills. With the 30-50k views I receive hope it helps bring this deli business. Next day: I came and picked up the Italian combo absolutely phenomenal. I usually go to Arthur ave and this sandwich was as good if not better. I HIGHLY recommend this deli. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious. 10 outta 10. Thank you!!

Google
Group order, several of us tried to add items to our sandwiches and didn’t get them. I tried to add lettuce and tomato thru uber eats and paid extra . Co worker same problem. If you are not going to follow the instructions on the order please eliminate the ability to add paid for ingredients on uber eats. Thanks

Google
Approximately ($15-$20) Can be expensive for some but it’s very good specially when you toast the bread

Giuseppe Bongiorno

Google
Ordered from here twice, amazing. They know what they’re doing.

Yelp
The best sandwich shop in westchester. They use imported highly quality ingredients (try their grilled chicken, broccoli rabe, and imported sharp provolone sandwich / wrap) - the provolone is incredible and reminds you of an Arthur ave cheese shop. Overall amazing sandwiches and wraps with tons of attention to detail - they do it all right.

Yelp
Small italian deli, easy to miss, although its on a main road, it's not an area with a lot of foot traffic. You are going here because you know it's here, not because you stumbled on it. Its a small place with no seating. Big selection of sandwiches with cold cuts and chicken cutlets. They have some hot pressed options as well. A few other food sandwich places in nearby towns, but If you are in the area you cant go wrong with this spot. I ordered the italian combo which was very filling. Only thing is that I think they couldve toasted it better, the cheese in the middle was still cold. Did pickup because i was in the area, but seems like they have a pretty busy delivery business.

Yelp
My favorite sandwiches in Westchester, by far! Love it here. The people who work here are friendly and know me by name by now. I've been coming here for years, kept coming after new ownership tool over a couple years ago, and it's still fantastic. Their portions are BIG and the food is always delicious and fresh. They also have some great imported Italian foods, like cookies, drinks, pasta, olive oile, etc. The place is always very clean too - I'll be a lifelong customer!

Yelp
stopped by during my workday this week , and I have to say, it was an amazing experience! I ordered a grilled chicken wrap with rice, and it was absolutely delicious--flavorful, fresh, and perfectly prepared. I enjoyed it so much that I went back the very next day! The customer service was exceptional. The staff was friendly, helpful, and genuinely seemed to care about providing a great experience. It's rare to find such a perfect combination of great food and great service. I'll definitely be making this deli one of my regular spots. Highly recommend!

Cortney D.

Yelp
Best deli and people to work with! They provide sandwiches for our away games for Iona Prep and the kids/coaches can't stop saying how delicious they are! Rich and his team are so easy to work with too!! Highly recommend!

Yelp
I'm sorry, not impressed with this place. Got a chicken cutlet with roasted peppers and cheese on a wedge, also asked for it to be pressed. Sandwich was blah and they were lazy with the pressing, the sandwich was not even warm. No glove usage as well.

Ross S.

Yelp
One of the best delis in westchester. Not Arthur Avenue, but close. I recommend checking it out. Will be back and bring friends.

Yelp
Lots of delis and markets around this area that you can get a good Italian sandwich from. However this place has the most consistent of them all. Sure you can drive into Da Bronx and go to Arthur Avenue but this is Westchester, we only talk about the Bronx. We don't actually go there anymore unless it's to see the Yankees. Is it the best or anything fancy? No. Is it solid every time? You bet all the gabagool in Jersey it is.

Yelp
Wow! This is an exceptionally outstanding Italian Deli. Everything I've purchased here has been consistently fantastic. I love their lasagna snd stuffed shells with ricotta and spinach as well as their stuffed zucchini with breadcrumbs and ricotta cheese. They have aged Parmesan cheeses and will personally grate to whatever texture you'd like. My wife loves their marinated artichoke stems that are wonderful in salads. And best of all, the two guys who manage the shop, Chris and Mike will go out of their way to assist every customer that walks into their store. They also make all kinds of delicious sandwiches, paninis and soups! You have to go and check out their wonderful selection of pastas, cookies, olive oils and other Italian specialties!

Paige M.

Yelp
Unbelievable - best sandwiches ever! The flamethrower was incredible!!! Will definitely be back for more !
google avatar

Jonathon M.

Yelp
New owners - Not the same. Same prices, less value. My father's been getting sandwiches from here for the family for years. They were huge! Tons of meat, overstuffed and the best in Westchester. With the new owners, they are now much smaller yet priced the same. That said, the sandwich was still tasty. The meat and cheese were definitely fresh and my father said the staff was very friendly. Hence I'm giving it 3 stars.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Great sandwiches and anything else you my get there. They get you in and out and the food is always fresh and delicious. For the best sandwiches in Eastchester and Scarsdale this is the place!!!
google avatar

Yelp
There's a lot I can say about Mona Lisa. The staff is incredibly friendly and they enjoy what they do. The two gentlemen who work the counter are both the owners. In all honesty I've never had a bad experience there. For the food: You can't beat their quality and price for a wedge/hero with cold cuts. Their chicken cutlets, mozzarella and other foods are all made fresh daily and it's evident in the quality. The sandwiches are absolutely massive and will definitely be enough. I highly suggest trying their imported meats from Parma, they're incredible. The only downsides to Mona Lisa are the wait times. If there is a line, it can take quite a bit of time when you walk in. However, each sandwich is made one by one and in my opinion is is absolutely worth the the wait. If you're really looking for a quality wedge/hero/submarine, this is the spot to check out.
google avatar

Joel S.

Yelp
I've been coming here for almost 25 years. This small family run business has been making amazing food forever. Their sandwiches are amazing. One hero sandwich feeds two easily. Their cold cut combos and chicken parmigiana are amazing. More recently we have been getting their prepared food for dinner. I totally agree with their palates. Finally, They're nice people. Be warned, things move slowly and the lines can take patience to negotiate.
google avatar

Sandy M.

Yelp
It was really fresh and tasty. What more can you really ask for? Everything is sliced fresh and made to order. Bread was very fresh. I was able to save half to eat tomorrow. This is my kind of hero, wedge, sub. Whatever you want to call it, it's good!
google avatar

Scarlett N.

Yelp
I must first start by saying that sandwiches are by far my most favorite food.. & Mona Lisa delivers every single time! The staff are so warm and pleasant. The food is extremely fresh. I normally don't go on here to write reviews, but i just had to give this place their well deserved 5 stars! Today, i walked in and as I ordered my sandwich I was greeted at least 5 times with warm hellos and bright smiles. What a great way to get my day started! Upon leaving, i got into the car and couldn't wait. I swear i finished half of my sandwich and wanted to turn back around to give them all a hug. The sandwich was one of the best i have ever had. 5 stars for quality, service and overall experience. Will be going back again, and again, and again!

Yelp
This is hands down is the best sandwich I've ever had and the price is amazing for everything being so fresh and to top it off the customer service there is immaculate they really mad me feeling like I have an Italian uncle will definitely come back!!! EVERYONE MUST TRY THEM OUT

Robin G.

Yelp
real Italian deli !! chicken cutlets are great. friendly service behind counter. parking is not good

Peter S.

Yelp
Amazing food, they could offer more help on the phone. Sometimes don't get straight answers about what's available.

Christina M.

Yelp
Mona Lisa has the best food!!! The chicken cutlet wedge is one of our family's favorite. We have also tried almost everything in the showcase- meatballs, rice balls, stuffed zucchini..... all are delicious. You can call & order ahead. There is plenty of parking around the back, also. The staff is very efficient, personable, and you almost always have at least one owner present. Try Mona Lisa.....You won't be disappointed !!!!

Carol I.

Yelp
Best food around!! Friendly staff. Would recommend highly! Chicken cutlets always taste amazing. Great sandwiches and hot foods.
google avatar

Sam P.

Yelp
Under new management as of first week of June 2021. Waiting to see how the food tastes vs the (legendary) formers owners. Their chicken cutlet was amazing. Giving 3 stars as a placeholder until I can sample the food again.

Ang S.

Yelp
I am in Westchester twice a month and I always stop at the deli. It never disappoints and is always delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by on our way home from Boston to NC. Such a quaint shop. We got the chicken cutlet sub and it was delicious and huuuge! Really enjoyed our food and will stop by again next time we pass through.
google avatar

Sonic R.

Yelp
Great place for catering. The new owners are super nice and friendly. We ordered chicken piccata, which was simply delicious!
google avatar

Paul H.

Yelp
Love this place. Best meats in the Tri-State area. You can't go wrong with any of their creations. I love the Italian, the chicken parm hero and meatballs. They have a great red sauce that you can buy alone. A must try if you are in the area.

Rocky F.

Yelp
Best around... without question. The cutlets are unmatched in cut and flavor. Solid, homemade and imported Italian spread with timely service.

Sinclair F.

Yelp
Met the owner of Mona Lisa today - Richie - he was incredibly friendly, gracious and hospitable. The chicken cutlet sandwich he recommended was OFF THE CHARTS. Highly highly recommend the rice balls too which are packed with cheese in the center which melts perfectly. The meatballs were fantastic as well. Pro Tip: pour some of the marinara sauce that the meatballs come in over the hot rice balls. Will 100% be a regular.

Matthew O.

Yelp
As good as an Italian deli can get! They know how to build a wedge and use only the best cuts of meats. cheeses and veggies. Great in house pickled cherry peppers! Wedge bread is Arthur Ave of course. Oh, roast beef is rare, thin and very tasty. Enjoy this classic deli-cioso

Alli N.

Yelp
I always went to this Deli and it was always good. Never failed. Today I walked in after a year of not being here and noticed new owners. The guy helping me seems to constantly be distracted and took my order wrong. The guy making the sandwich did not use gloves to cut the cold cuts to put in the sandwich. I should have walked out. I didn't. My sandwich was ready and I was ready to check out. No one else was in the store until a woman walked in who had ordered over the phone. While I was standing there he proceeds to help her with her order but that's not all, she decides to order other items while I was standing there waiting. He's done with her and the phone rings he now answers the phone and takes care of the person on the phone. I have And hand him my card and he looks at it and seems to have no clue, I said its my card to pay for my order. Oh he says. He now tells me my order and I told him he got the order wrong. The other guy answers well just take it off the sandwich. Ok I will but you'll never see me in your store again.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Amazing food, great service, and extremely friendly workers!! Will definitely be going back !

Liz M.

Yelp
I'm an Italian combo sub fan. Tried them all over --Manhattan, Westchester, Newport, RI, Austin,TX. Today got a hankering for one after car wash at Oakley's on Central Ave. Did a Yelp search and this place was pretty close. A Salumeria, I knew it would be the real deal. Huge sub, loaded with all the requisite cold cuts and provolone. Even better, the bread was really fresh. Magnificent sandwich, great price. Btw, could tell some regulars were there, with big orders, but this newbie was treated like a regular too.
google avatar

Martha K.

Yelp
Our favorite Italian deli! Their sandwiches are the best on fresh Italian rolls but we also LOVE the eggplant parmigiana and all the fresh pasta salads and cooked food that is homemade everyday. We've been going here for years. The owners are always friendly and take good care of us. Delizioso!!
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
The best for sandwiches. There can be a wait at peak times but that's the new norm with so many people calling in big orders
google avatar

Ashley O.

Yelp
The best sandwiches, but order in advance for popular holidays. The place itself gets crazy crowded so be prepared! The chicken cutlet with roasted peppers and mozzarella is our favorite but the Italian is pretty insane too!

Mary C.

Yelp
There food is good But they don't wear gloves They touch food touch money and shake hands Dirty Not sanitary I asked them to put on gloves they said no I walked out And they should do less talking not interested in there flirting just cut the cold cuts and move it along U wait on line forever
google avatar

Steve O.

Yelp
Excellent, old school Italian deli that has been in business for 20+ years so they must be doing something right. Their sandwiches are always sliced fresh to order, (it may take a little bit but worth the wait) and is one of the best deals in town. The amount of meat and cheese spills out of the sub. All of the bread is delivered fresh in the morning and due to their popularity, they often run out of bread later in the day. You can still get a sandwich on sliced rye if you're really craving one. It is still good but not quite the same. They carry the full line up of deli meats from the numerous ones needed for their amazing italian combos to several different types of turkeys and roast beefs. The parmigiano-reggiano is imported from Italy, you know that because they bring the wheel out with the perforated rind and have to chop off wedges. Their prosciutto is sliced off of the primal cut of the entire hind leg of the pig, with the hoof still attached. Yeah, its that kind of place, and it's awesome. Mona Lisa also has hot subs like chicken parm, veal parm, meatballs and eggplant parm. They also do a robust amount of catering business as well. I've seen large trays of ravioli, rollatinis and lasagna waiting for pick up as well as 5 foot subs for game days. You can also peruse their dried pastas and italian dessert boxes while you wait for your order. Calling ahead does help though. Lastly, when you go, aside from trying the Mona Lisa (Italian ham instead of prosciutto), try a chicken cutlet wedge with fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, roasted red peppers and marinated artichokes. You will be glad you did.

Yelp
Nice! Authentic Italian deli, great sandwich. And must try their lasagne! Owners are from Italy

Mic R.

Yelp
Traditional Italian American deli, food is excellent owner and staff are very friendly and welcoming. Finally found a solid deli that I can eat 7 days a week !!

Max R.

Yelp
It took over 30 minutes to serve three people. Then, just as I was about to order, a few women burst in front and said they ordered ahead, but then ordered 10 other things. The employees were more than happy to oblige their every request while completely ignoring me and everyone else who was waiting. After nearly an hour of standing in line and the employees letting 5 parties cut in front, I walked out. Never going back with treatment like that.
google avatar

Alexandra C.

Yelp
I don't get it. This place was really good many years ago when I was little living around here. Seems to be the same people. The sandwich yesterday - the bread was not at all fresh, in fact, tasted stale. The fresh mozzarella slice had no flavor, and the chicken cutlet was dried out. Not sure what happened here but I know this place was a real good Italian place. The peppers didn't get put on, just the broccoli rabe. On the bright side, they didn't load it all up with salt and oil. Wish I had ordered a parm sandwich-- think their sandwiches need some sauce.
google avatar

Mindy D.

Yelp
This is really a wonderful deli! The food and service can't be beat!!! Old school Italian deli with imported provisions. The chicken cutlets are amazing! I think it is two brothers who own/run the place, they always make me smile and laugh!!!!

Vanessa D.

Yelp
Best deli in Eastchester!! I order from here frequently and cater from here for all of my parties. I have been coming here for years. They went under new management a few months ago and I have to say its the same GREAT food with some new menu items, too! The new owners are super nice and accommodating and much quicker and more efficient than the old owners. The chicken cutlets are phenomenal. If you haven't yet, TRY IT! You won't be disappointed.

Rick V.

Yelp
Solid, above average Italian Deli. Not in the top echelon but it'll more than do the job.

Scott M.

Yelp
Hey Mona Lisa guys---are you doing ok during this craziness?! Let us know if you need some $$$$ to hold you over. I'd happily pay now for food later. Let me know.

JP D.

Yelp
Wow. Wow. Wow. Best food. Service is friendly and helpful, but be warned it can take quite a while to get in/out -- so try to beat the lunch rush.

Alexia B.

Yelp
Waited here for an entire hour before I could pick up my preordered food. There were 4 people in front of me, all with simple orders. When I got to the front of the line the guy behind the counter asked why I waited on line at all since I had a preplaced order. Are you kidding? There was one line and I told him I'm not cutting the line just to get my order. He also couldn't find my order and told me to take someone else's order instead. Just so happened that person was on line behind me and fought back. Never coming here again, there are TONS of other delis nearby with equally if not better quality food that won't make you wait an hour.
google avatar

Patrick D.

Yelp
The first thing I noticed upon walking in is there is no menu. Shortly after I figured out there was no need for one. These guys will make you whatever you want. I immediately went all out with the meats, which tasted as fresh as if they came straight out of Italy. Not to mention, the guys running the show are awesome. While they do take a while to make your sandwich, it's totally worth the wait. They take the time to perfect your order. I will not go anywhere else for a big Italian sandwich of any kind. If you live in Eastchester, you have to give this place a shot!
google avatar

Kyle C.

Yelp
Excellent Italian deli, comparable to those in Arthur Avenue as well as Faicco's in Manhattan. The sandwiches are excellent, served on fresh bread with perfect chicken cutlets and fresh mozzarella. They also have a wide variety of your typical Italian delectables (olives, roasted peppers, fried eggplant [excellent!], etc.), as well as shelves of imported goods. A really well-run store, the two gentleman at the counter are friendly and delightful. Easily the best sandwiches in town. Definitely has the local neighborhood vibe and the highest quality of food.
