Monarch

"With its comprehensive range of aged Czech and American USDA steaks and a blackboard filled with numerous special cuts, Monarch is a carnivore’s delight. The shelves are packed with wines and they offer some superb choices by the glass. The semolina mousse with cinnamon and gingerbread ice cream is a must." - Michelin Inspector

This is an really excellent beef restaurant. The food tastes more than great , the service is amazing and the atmosphere is just cousy and relaxed. We ordered burgers, steak and different starters and were amazed by the taste and juicyness of the meat. To drink we ordered wine from the gigantic winemenu. The prices are a bit high but that is more than compensated for by the quality of the food being served here. Go here if you want some of the best meat and wine money can buy, very highly recommended😋

Bad service with great food. Unfortunately the service was very bad. We felt very unwelcome. The staff literally stands in front of you and laugh between each other while serving you. Honestly haven’t seen such bad service in a while. Although the steak was excellent. Come here for the food and not the service. You will love it.

My first evening here in Prague. I got a burger (I know lame), but it truly was one of the best I've ever tasted! The bun is a heavier bread/biscuit type, and was perfect. Lay was my server and was so friendly and helpful. In fact nearly all the servers stopped by and were very kind. I appreciated the advice and tips from Lay as well. Oh! The semolina mousse with gingerbread ice cream was so filling and tasty, too. Thanks for a wonderful welcome to your beautiful city 💗

Amazing meat dishes, from the starters to the mains. Every dish was carefully constructed and thought of. The ingredients were of very high quality. Super lovely and attentive staff. Lovely place and atmosphere. Extremely recommended for foodies like us 😬 It's pricier than places around it, but totally worth it!

Good place in the city center with delicious food, nice atmosphere, however service could be better!! We had a small misunderstanding and waiter started to shouting at us🫣 which was really inappropriate in that situation, she could tell the same thing without shouting… really disappointed and probably won’t go back to this place because of it🥲

We recently visited Paris, Prague, Vienna, and Budapest, and by far and away Monarch was one of the highlights of our trip from a food perspective. Monarch was one of those meals that you just have to recommend people have at least once in their lives, it was truly that good. There is a reason it has a Michelin star! I do have to wonder if some of the lower-star reviews on here were during peak busy times as when we went on a week night at dinner time it was rather empty and we received impeccable food and service. We started off with the chips and bread - the homemade chips were deliciously salty and we paired this with the cheese and jam platter, which was a perfect pairing. The chips and bread were the perfect balance with some of the cheeses as well as the jam (I believe a fig jam?). My husband got the regular steak and I got the dry-aged, which was very tasty and tender and had extra seasoning compared to the regular steak. The peppercorn sauce/jus on the side was an absolute must and gave that perfect extra bite/kick of flavor to the steaks, which were cooked perfectly. Our server recommended some excellent red wine to go with the steak, and the sides of french fries/mashed potatoes made great pairings as well. The staff was very attentive, timed our main meals to come out perfectly after finishing our appetizers, and were overall very pleasant. They also spoke excellent English and there were no language barriers despite the fact that we didn't speak Czech. The interior was very cozy though old-fashioned (in a good way) with lots of wood paneling and high vaulted ceilings which lent a coziness to the place. Would be an excellent restaurant choice for a date night or upscale dinner. A definite must-try if you're ever in Prague!

Google
Absolutely amazing meat and a fantastic dining experience overall. The service was outstanding – our waiter really took the time to explain everything in detail and clearly had deep knowledge about the dishes and different cuts of meat. It made choosing our steak much easier and more enjoyable. We ordered two filet mignons with ash-baked potatoes, and the meat was phenomenal – incredibly tender and rich in flavor. Everything was cooked perfectly and beautifully presented. We were truly impressed with Monarch. If we ever come back to Prague, this will definitely be one of the first places we visit again.

Yelp
Nice quiet spot located away from the tourist buzz of the main square. We had the Dry aged steak tasting and were offered a choice of USDA or Czech. We went with Czech since I live in the US and can get USDA steak anytime. After we had dined I was even more confident we made the better selection having viewed what the comparison in the dry aged freezer, the Czech option definitely looked fresher. For starters we had the bone marrow and the carpaccio. The bone marrow wasn't something to write home about but the Carpaccio was fantastic. The servers were very attentive and although they didn't have a great cocktail selection their wine options made up for it.

Yelp
Rare steakhouse outside of the U.S. serving Angus and advertised "USDA" grade steaks. Hits the spot if you're craving for a steak dinner. Ok in my PoV, highly overpriced for what you get if you compare to the states....

Yelp
Wow! Fabulous service and outstanding food all in a cool space a few blocks away from the maddening crowd. Michelin recommended too. And the wine selection was top notch. Day 15 away from America and I needed a burger and not more steaks. Super tasty. Shrimp appetizer was perfect. Added a bottle of Czech chard to sample their local best. What a wonderful meal and experience!

Yelp
Monarch Gastrobar is a gorgeous Spanish tapas restaurant in the heart of Old Town. There are wine bottles shelved floor to ceiling in the main room. The more private back room has a wall of framed portraits of monarchs, nobility and obscure aristocrats from an old age. Luckily we were offered a table in the back room and were the only ones there the entire time! Private dining for 2. Monarch has an extensive wine list by the bottle, and a number of Spanish, French and Czech wines by the glass. We started with a delicious Spanish cava, Anna de Codorniu, Blanc de blancs, reserva. Then we let our server make Czech recommendations and were pleasantly surprised with the Trpělka & Oulehla Pálava. We ordered so many tapas we could barely finish. We started with a delicious selection of Spanish and Czech cheeses. The Pulpo a la Brasa, grilled octopus, was good. Even better was Grandmother's Seranno Ham croquettes. I also enjoyed the fried calamari. It was a relaxing and enjoyable meal, and ambience much more intimate in the back room! Service was excellent and personable. I'd return to Monarch the next time in Prague.

Yelp
It was a decent experience but I expected more I was not told the size of the dish is before roasting Food was okay but was not some I have never experienced before I do recommend this restaurant but only if you know what to expect

Yelp
Classy, upscale spot with friendly bartenders great for grabbing drinks and a bite. I had the grilled octopus which was served with a potato foam (like mashed potatoes) and actually quite delicious and filling. To drink I tried the Wilder Tea, which is a spiked hot tea. Not very authentic Prague, but a nice spot if you are looking for something a bit more chic and modern for dinner!

Yelp
Terrific restaurant, and reasonably priced! We had a great meal here - venison medallions for me, and duck confit for my wife. Excellent! Denisa took great care of us, and was very warm and friendly, spending time to talk to us about the local area, customs, the history of the Czech Republic, etc. Very sweet and professional. Thanks!

Yelp
As a starter I had marinated Hering. Fish was of perfect texture and tasted nicely sour and not too salty. I had a dry-aged 500g US Tomahawk Rib-Eye. It was super soft and tasty. The side orders were Brussel sprouts and home-made French fries. They were also perfectly cooked. Fries super crispy, sprouts were just al-dente. I never have wine so cannot rate any wine. Staff was fast and extremely kind. Best value for the money. Definitely need reservation.

Yelp
the asparagus salad changed my life. it took the waiter 20 minutes to bring my beer and I had to remind him, but the food came quickly because we went around 3pm. DELICIOUS! We even got dessert. I loved the decor and the entire vibe. If I was here for longer than three days then I would go back.

Yelp
Refined food, with limited choices, but all of the appealing. Glazed carrots are just amazing. And the dry aged ribeye is smashing. Great service as well.

Yelp
Lucky find on an early evening ramble through this charming area of Prague, Nove Mesto. The waiter shared they had recently changed their concept from tapas to modern Czech. We learned that Monarch is under supervision of the executive chef at Grand Cru, a Michelen-starred restaurant well known to Prague foodies. With this we were prepared to find it wonderful, and it was! Delicious and very reasonably priced. We had wine and beer, two entrees and two sides and it was less than $50 total. Excellent service, beautifully appointed room. Lovely and large selection of wine by glass and bottle. Hope you're able to enjoy this gem in Prague

Yelp
From the tapas menu, ordered duck breast and charcuterie for takeaway (it had been a long day). The waitress was friendly, the food was well-packed, and the food was good. Mainly this is a wine bar with meaty noshes, an easy distance from old town or the Charles bridge. At night the windows are lit with green light so it's hard to miss.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and good selection of tapas and wines. Wait staff knowledgeable about Czech wines. We had a nice Pinot and well priced Prosecco. Caprese salad had nice mozzarella, warm octopus on tiny new potatoes, Manchego cheese which we complimented with a pear "dip", anchovies with peppers on toast. Only disappointment was that there is no desert menu. Good choice after walking all over the city!

Yelp
Super convenient location, just a few minutes from Narodni trida. It is hard to miss with the bright green lights in the windows. The selection of both Czech and international is quite large. They have many wines by the glass as well. The prices have risen significantly in the past few years, so it isn't as great as it used to be. We had the cheese plate, which had 4 types of cheese. The server unceremoniously dropped the plate and ran, so I have no clue what types of cheese were on the plate. It was served with a few slices of bread and a tasty onion chutney. The big downer is the service. The place wasn't very full, but it was a battle to get refills or the check. Not a bad place to stop for pre - dinner drinks if you are already in the neighborhood, just make sure to allot extra time for the slow service.

Yelp
Wide selection of wine and beer. We enjoyed spending some time there, nibbling small sized plates. Good place to hang out a while, and close to some nice bars
