A Hawai'i Stopover on Trip to Seoul Solves Pesky Jet Lag

"A high-floor hotel room provided an early-morning view of Seoul’s deep-blue pre-dawn sky and, unusually for the reviewer, a surprisingly restful wake-up that helped combat jet lag and set up a productive first day in the city." - Katie Chang

The Best MICHELIN Guide Hotels in Seoul

"The Mondrian Seoul Itaewon is the SBE group’s first hotel in Asia, and it’s a remarkably self-assured debut. The design is true to the original modernist-inspired vision, while the rooms and suites benefit from the latest in high-tech comforts. Its rooftop bar has an extraordinary view of the city." - The MICHELIN Guide

Our stay at this hotel was exceptional from start to finish. The room was spotless, cozy, and well-equipped, making our visit truly comfortable. What stood out most was the incredible service from Sally at the front desk. She was friendly, thoughtful, and always ready to help. I accidentally lost the hotel umbrella during our stay, but Sally was so kind and understanding—she reassured me that it was no problem and didn’t ask for any repayment. Her warmth and professionalism made a lasting impression. It’s rare to find service like this. We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended!

The hotel is very well groomed with high end services. Modern interior decoration with neat designs. It’s conveniently located.||The staff was very helpful and friendly. The manager greeted us warmly and offered timely service.||The food and the drinks were meticulously prepared.||We didn’t stay long enough to have the time to use all the hotels facilities and equipments but we highly recommend the Mondrian Seoul Itaewon !|Spending time in this hotel is already an experience in itself.

Positives:|- Good location: Close to Itaewon and accessible to both Myeongdong and Gangnam as the hotel situated in the middle. |- Gym: One of the better gyms in Seoul hotels. I've stayed at the Conrad, Park Hyatt, Marriott, MGallery, Le Meridien, and the Mondrian was one of the better ones.||Negatives:|- Elevator: No guest should wait more than 5 minutes for an elevator ride. Cabs cancelled on me on several occasions as it took me more than 10 minutes to go from my room to the lobby. There are three elevators - one elevator is for people w disabilities and the other two is for general use. There are two separate call buttons for these two sets of elevators so despite advanced elevator algorithms to make rides optimal, these two sets don't communicate with each other. So you have one just resting in the lobby on its own, while two are working tirelessly going up and down. The problem is that you will find the elevators in full capacity and would need to skip multiple times. For a building that size, it makes no sense to only have 3 elevators, let alone inefficient ones. Search "elevator" for other reviews.|- Rooms: They are poorly designed. For example, shower door should close inward into the shower, rather than outward. As a result, a small puddle would form in the bathroom area no matter how careful you are.|- Staffs: They are hit or miss. Some are friendly and some aren't. Not a 5-star service, but not every 5-star hotels are the same.

Our experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing. We had to move out of our original room because the shower wasn’t draining and the heater wasn’t working, leaving us freezing at night. Almost all the sockets in the room were non functional, also when I tried to open the wardrobe, the door fell off luckily no one was hurt. After raising our concerns, we were moved to another room and offered two drink vouchers. Unfortunately, the new room wasn’t much better. the shower was fine, the heater was broken, sockets were faulty, and overall cleanliness was poor. The housekeeper cleaned the room a few times but never changed the bed sheets throughout our long stay. I chose this hotel for the swimming pool only to find out after checking in that it wouldn’t open until May. That should have been clearly mentioned before booking. For a hotel that claims to be 5-star, this was a huge letdown. I wouldn’t even rate it 2 stars. There are much better hotels with fewer stars that offer far superior service and comfort. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Overall a pleasant stay — I especially appreciated the quick email responses from the concierge team and the outstanding service from the doormen at the entrance. They were consistently helpful and welcoming. However, there’s still room for improvement at the front desk and in-room maintenance. The door lock in my room was never fully fixed, which affected the overall sense of security. That said, I would still consider staying here again. Thank you!

The Worst 5 star hotel in the World. No hospitality, staff cannot speak English fluently, bad service, room too small for a 5 star hotel standard and lack of many useful stuff. Guest need to pay more to use facilities like outdoor pool, and have to pay 5k Won for a cap if you want to use free indoor pool. So ridiculous. Location is also not good, boring place. If you want to enjoy your holiday and have a pleasant vacation TO BE HONEST, PLEASE DON’T STAY HERE! Or you can get pissed-off for yourself.

The sauna/gym/baths downstairs are fantastic. We spent an hour or so here each day and it was hardly ever crowded or too busy. The facilities were new and high quality. The room was nice, although not the biggest it had an incredibly soft and comfortable bed with blackout blinds. As we planned to spend most of our time using facilities and seeing the city it was definitely worth it for us. Room service was fast and the Cleo restaurant had excellent quality food.

The check-in experience exceeded expectations! The room was clean and cozy, the bedding was comfortable, and the sound insulation was good. The front desk service was enthusiastic and responsive. The breakfast options were diverse, the location was convenient, and the surrounding business district was complete. The cost-effectiveness was high, and I will choose again next time!
