These Hotels Take Farm-to-Table to the Next Level

"Collecting eggs from chickens is one of the optional pre-breakfast activities at Monkey Island Estate, a new property in England’s small town of Bray. The estate has a vegetable garden and chicken coop, where guests can gather eggs ahead of breakfast. The chefs at the restaurant will transform the fresh eggs into a fluffy omelette, eggs Benedict or a scramble with house-smoked salmon." - Mary Holland

Monkey Island Estate (Bray, Berkshire) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"You might not guess from the name that the body of water containing Monkey Island is the Thames, thirty or so miles up the river from London. The original Palladian structure dates back to the early 18th century, and the Wedgewood Suite remains in the original style; the bulk of the rooms are housed in later expansions, and are roughly equal parts contemporary and classic. The brasserie, the bar, and the Whisky Snug are all eminently worthy options, and the village of Bray, just over the bridge, is home to a few more. Most unique is the spa, housed in a permanently moored riverboat." - Tablet Hotels

We came for afternoon tea today with my girlfriends. This was my second visit for afternoon tea. The food is delicious! The sandwiches are filled well and very tasty, The scones were fluffy and light. The desserts delectable. This really is a hidden gem for afternoon tea. I often have afternoon tea in London and this is definitely at that standard or better! Fabulous service. The staff are polite, helpful and really make this a 5 star experience. We will definitely be visiting more, especially as I now know that I can bring my dog in the Bar area and have afternoon tea or a meal there. Full of praise for a well executed 5 star service.

I recently hosted an international conference at Monkey Island in Bray-on-Thames, and the experience was exceptional from start to finish. The location itself is stunning—set on a picturesque private island with rich history and that quintessential English charm that truly impresses guests from around the world. The venue provided the perfect backdrop for productive meetings and meaningful conversations, but what truly made the event outstanding was the team. The staff were genuinely excellent—attentive, warm, and incredibly professional. We were looked after by a small dream team (Luke, Karla, Lilly, Renato, Azlan and Lilian) who ensured every detail was handled seamlessly, allowing us to focus entirely on our event. Our delegates were thoroughly impressed, and I couldn’t have asked for a better setting or higher level of service. Highly recommended for anyone looking to host a memorable event in a unique and beautiful location.

If your looking for a peaceful and relaxing break then look no further than here. Very quiet, beautiful place, really nice restaurant. A pleasant place to unwind and chillout. The floating spa was different and the treatments were of a good standard. Love how close it was to Bray village, as its in great proximity to alot of great restaurants. Good value for money and an enjoyable stay. Well worth a night away here!

We stayed in Long White Cloud, a 4 bedroom house adjacent to the car park of Monkey Island. The island is accessed by a bridge from the car park. Previous residents of the house include Stirling Moss and Edward Elgar. The house is spacious with 4 reception rooms, 4 bedrooms and a small heated indoor swimming pool. It also has a pretty garden. We found it to be beautifully furnished and it has a well equipped kitchen. There is no laundry facilities in the house. The bedrooms all have en-suite bathrooms and individual air conditioning. Some snacks and drinks are complimentary however if you need provisions you will not find them in the local village which has a number of pubs and restaurants but no supermarket or stores. The nearest supermarket is a 10 minute drive. The onsite bistro has an extremely lovely setting and outlook but we didn’t have a positive experience there. (a request to make a toasted sandwich for a tired child was refused).

What a beautiful hotel in a stunning location! We stayed last night in the most adorable terrace suite, overlooking the river and grounds. The attention to detail in the suite was amazing, and a hand written note greater us along with a chilled bottle of bubbles! Wonderful! The bed was so comfortable, gorgeous sash window letting in all the views, triple aspect, and patio doors opening into a quaint patio with a table and two chairs overlooking the river - just stunning! A fabulous walk in shower, dressing gown and slippers, tea/coffee machine and a concierge available for your every request. I can’t recommend this place enough, the history is super interesting and I wish we had time to stay longer! We will definitely return - thank you Monkey Island Hotel!

We were extremely impressed. This is a beautiful venue. The food was amazing! We visited on a Sunday and enjoyed a very enjoyable roast lunch. The service was both attentive and professional. They couldn’t do enough for us. We look forward to our next visit.

My husband and I stayed at Monkey Island Estate for two nights while exploring Windsor (we visited the Castle and the Theatre) and dined at some of the famous restaurants in nearby Bray — just under a 10-minute drive away!||From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel incredibly special. We received a complimentary room upgrade and a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate my birthday, plus numerous free drinks in the in-room minibar — such thoughtful touches.||A huge thank you to Elise and Bogdan at Reception for the warm welcome, and to Karla, Emelia and Karen who looked after us so well at breakfast each morning. We also visited the Monkey Bar one evening, where Nick crafted a fantastic “Monkey Mary” cocktail and treated us to the hotel’s own Monkey Island G&T — both excellent! Dinner in the Brasserie was another highlight; Aslan, our waiter, couldn’t have been more accommodating, and the food was absolutely delicious.||Every detail of our stay was flawless — nothing was too much trouble, and every member of staff went above and beyond. The location is perfect for visiting Windsor or nearby Bray (ideal for fans of Heston Blumenthal and the Roux brothers’ restaurants), but don’t miss out on the hotel’s own Brasserie either — it’s well worth a visit in its own right.||We left feeling relaxed, pampered and thoroughly impressed. Highly recommend Monkey Island Estate for anyone looking for a luxurious, welcoming and memorable getaway.
