These Hotels Take Farm-to-Table to the Next Level

"Collecting eggs from chickens is one of the optional pre-breakfast activities at Monkey Island Estate, a new property in England’s small town of Bray. The estate has a vegetable garden and chicken coop, where guests can gather eggs ahead of breakfast. The chefs at the restaurant will transform the fresh eggs into a fluffy omelette, eggs Benedict or a scramble with house-smoked salmon." - Mary Holland

We had a wonderful stay! I can’t fault our experience at Monkey Island. ||The check in process was seamless and Shelley provided such an exemplary service upon our arrival - she was incredibly helpful and so informative - she is just so wonderful. ||The team also left me a bottle of bubbly and a lovely note to wish me a happy birthday.||The rest of our stay also did not disappoint. The food and service at the restaurant was amazing as well. ||At check out, Jose and Celine were also great - so lovely and friendly. ||All in all, an exceptional experience. Every member of staff we encountered was amazing - they are an absolute credit to the hotel. Thank you all for making our weekend so enjoyable!

We visited the Brasserie on a Tuesday lunchtime. The restaurant was quiet and service was attentive without being intrusive. |Karla and her two colleagues were very prompt and friendly. The restaurant was clean and the tables faced the riverside and we enjoyed watching the boats pass by. |We ordered the same starter but different mains and one dessert. All the food was delicious! |We asked for the secret to getting perfect rhubarb as their rhubarb tart was the best we’ve had!!!|It’s worth a visit.

The hotel is beautiful and the location is just perfect. However, the service in the bar was far from disappointing, absolutely terrible and something you wouldnt expect in a luxury hotel. My family and I had lunch in the bar (inside); we sat on the table and we had to go to the bar as none of the 2/3 staff members acknowledged us. The food arrived after approx 10 min and it was fine. However, at no time did anyone came to check on us and I had to stand up on a couple of occasions to ask for things (they were chatting behind the bar) The lady serving us was unfriendly and we did not feel welcome at all. Sadly I had high expectations after seeing the venue but the experience has been something we could not expect. Sometimes you go to less beautiful/luxurious places but the staff makes you feel so welcome and look after you so well that they becomes instantly 5 star places and somewhere you will always like to go back. This hotel seems actually the other way round. I work also in the hospitality industry for 2 decades and I just hope my comment is acknowledged and you take it as constructive feedback. On the other hand, the Asian lady was very welcoming when she saw us walking around the grounds. All in all, beautiful location as mentioned but absolutely poor F&B service, just our opinion. Thank you

The hotel is in a stunning location. Very peaceful and tranquil and obviously lovely to be surrounded by the river on both sides. We spent one night in a Temple Room which was lovely - really comfortable bed, great shower. We ate in the restaurant which is in the separate building, which was lovely but if I'm really critical lacked atmosphere - spotlights a bit bright, no background music. However, the food was good (chicken and rib eye steak). The service was excellent particularly from Caitlin and Li - thank you! I would definitely recommend both the hotel and restaurant - a really relaxing break and of course, so many interesting nearby places such at Henley, Eton and various National Trust properties.

We had a wonderful stay for two nights. The hotel is beautiful and the setting very peaceful - the best of the English countryside. A haven of luxury surrounded on all sides by the river. ||We both had a visit to the Floating Spa which is absolutely excellent- Sophie is highly skilled and I had the best facial I’ve ever had (and I’ve had probably far too many across the world!) and I left feeling deeply relaxed and yet totally revived. My husband had a massage which was so good he had a prompt afternoon nap! ||Jose, one of the managers, was exemplary in his kindness and level of service. It is rare nowadays to experience highly personalised attention yet Jose went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable and wonderful stay. ||All staff were helpful and kind. Bravo! and special thanks to Sophie and Jose. 🙏

For me it’s like finding the Secret Garden of Windsor (or Maidenhead to be precise) when I came to the Monkey Island Estate by chance after failing in looking for a satisfying place to host my VIPs outside London. But we did not stay at any of the hotel rooms, it’s the detached “holiday homes” I stayed with a large group of guests. Overall, it’s like staying in a luxury air-bnb with all essential 5-star hotel services. The building (named Long White Cloud) has four bedrooms in good size, all newly refurbished in fabulous taste of country-style elegance. The double living room is huge, not just in comparison with most premises in Central London. A modern well stocked open kitchen. All interior very well lit by a large numbers of windows open to the greens. More surprisingly there is a huge back yard, right on the bank of a small branch of the River Thames. ||All staff I interacted with is of a high standard of hospitality. From the day I walked in and inquired about the place, being brought to view the premises, until we checked in and presented many specific requests from our guests. They are very customer oriented and the attitude is friendly and casual. Jose the reception manager helped me attentively throughout and Mark the head of housekeeping answered many of my requests without failing any. They even delayed the scheduled construction work of the premises upon our request of extension of stay. ||The hotel is small and some “usual” Hilton-style amenities may not be available. But the basic stay-and-dine quality is of superb standards, given the setting over the River Thames, not to mention the Michelin starred Monkey Bar, and the well maintained private garden on the petite island, with good wild-lives like swans and geese, etc. except monkeys.

A unique hotel in a wonderful area. We stayed in The Temple, the rooms are well equipped, a good size, lovely fixtures and fittings, and beautiful view of the gardens. Although dinner was delicious it was a bit pricey. The service we received throughout our stay was excellent!
