"You might not guess from the name that the body of water containing Monkey Island is the Thames, thirty or so miles up the river from London. The original Palladian structure dates back to the early 18th century, and the Wedgewood Suite remains in the original style; the bulk of the rooms are housed in later expansions, and are roughly equal parts contemporary and classic. The brasserie, the bar, and the Whisky Snug are all eminently worthy options, and the village of Bray, just over the bridge, is home to a few more.
