The Best Fried Chicken in America - Eater

"Nashville-style hot chicken arrived in the Valley of the Sun with the opening of this stylish counter-service spot in 2019. The nationwide trend landed in good hands with Larry 'Lo-Lo' White, founder of the mini-chain LoLo’s Chicken & Waffles and grandson of local soul food legend Elizabeth White of Mrs. White’s Golden Rule Cafe. At Monroe’s, he partnered with chef Willie Graham on a menu of crunchy tenders that can be stuffed into hefty sandwiches, served alongside golden fries, or perched atop salads — all at your preferred heat level. Purists may scoff at the lack of bone-in options, but Monroe’s has perfected the boneless form, encasing moist white meat in exceptionally crisp and flavorful batter." - Eater Staff

Phoenix’s Best Chicken Sandwiches | Eater Phoenix

"Monroe’s Hot Chicken honors the Nashville tradition with a classic, spicy fried chicken sandwich that will transport you to the South. It’s got all the traditional ingredients — fried chicken, coleslaw, pickles, and Monroe’s own kick-it-up sauce on a toasted brioche bun. Feeling adventurous? Diners can also go for the hot chicken Belgian waffle sandwich featuring a buttery, syrup and powdered sugar-topped waffle. Also, don’t forget some of the classic Southern sides like the cornbread mac and cheese and smoked turkey collard greens. Monroe’s Hot Chicken’s downtown Phoenix location has dine-in service. Both the Phoenix and Tempe locations offer takeout and delivery." - Jamie Phillis

Google
So I have been seeing these Monroe bags frequently and finally decided to give it a try! They don’t take orders over the phone, but the website is very smooth and easy to navigate. Accepts Apple Pay which is a plus in my opinion. Ordered take out, 3 pc chicken tenders and fries box, onion rings, side of coleslaw and the moon pie. I ordered Hot and it delivers, very nice heat and I don’t want to speculate what the two other heat options will do to you. Crispy outside and juicy inside. Yummy! Onion rings were delicious. Coleslaw was crispy fresh. Fries were very tasty. Definitely worth a visit and I’ll try it again (will be brave and macho & do the next level heat) … staff was very pleasant and friendly.

Google
Nice chicken sandwich. Great sides. Awesome fountain soda. That’s the high level. Monroe’s is located downtown, near the stadium, and Bear a bunch of Marriott hotels. Parking is kind of difficult at times, but to be expected. The staff was welcoming, helpful, friendly, and quick. Great experience. The decor and vibe was fast casual. Nice place to look at the walls and figure out who the mug shot belongs to! The food was all very good. I wouldn’t say it is the same as actual hot chicken in Nashville, but it had great flavor and was a treat to enjoy. The mild was spicy to me, so I can’t imagine what the top level would taste like. Overall great spot that I would be happy to come back to any time I’m in phx.

Google
I love the atmosphere. I love looking at all the famous photos on the wall and watching the music videos. The food was delicious. The hot heat chicken was too hot for me so next time I will get medium or mild. But the flavor was delicious and I like their macaroni and cheese. The crinkle cut fries are very crispy. The employees were very nice.

Google
Food is not for the weary. mild is hot. Medium is burning. and hot is scorching. The chicken is excellent. many variations on a fried chicken. I got the classic chicken sandwich, which comes with pickles and.cole slaw, with medium heat. cleared my sinuses. oni9n rings were good. my colleagues got variations. one got the ultimate w Mac and cheese on the chicken. One got the classic with cheese sauce and a fried egg. they also have a soda for rain of unique local (?) sodas. I recommend a few bottles of water with your meal

Google
This has to be the best Hot Chicken I have ever had and the French fries are delicious I don't understand.... This place is a must! The only review that id give more than 5 Stars! Can't wait to come here again

Peter Chung

Google
Had both sandwich and chicken tenders. Spice level “hot” is just right. About 7/10 heat. Flavorful and just right. The fries are excellent. The Cole slaw has zero flavor. Moon Pie is big enough for 3.

So today I woke up, and I had a hankering for hot chicken. After googling and looking around, I found this place was downtown. I was a little hesitant because I hate to pay for parking but I ended up, finding out a cheat code for that which I will share later in the post. But yes, this place is worth checking out! Let me share my experience lol. So to start, I would like to say they have multiple levels of heat you can try on your sandwich or chicken. I went with hot which was in the middle. My sandwich came with fries and I asked for extra pickles because they said they made the pickles in house and I always like to have extra pickles anyways. By the way, you gotta get some of the cheese sauce and the hot sauce. They make their cheese sauce in house too! I was dipping my fries in the cheese sauce and then the hot sauce before eating them. So amazing lol. Now I’ve never had a chicken sandwich with coleslaw on it before, but I’m always a fan of venturing outside the box. First of all, I’m not gonna compare it to any other flavor and I’m just gonna tell you if you haven’t had a chicken sandwich w coleslaw on it… well you’re just missing out lol. Do yourself a favor and just try the sandwich. It was amazingly delicious, especially with their in-house pickles. Another thing that needs mentioned. I ended up getting a side of the cornbread mac & cheese. This stuff is downright legendary. Let’s pretend your grandma‘s mac & cheese was your favorite thing and you always coveted having it for Thanksgiving but then one year you smoked the ganja for the first time with your homies and now you went to grandma‘s Thanksgiving dinner right afterwards and you had grandma‘s mac & cheese for the first time (while being on the ganja) and also she added cornbread…. Bruhhhhh I was like “noooo”. And then I remembered this quote that said “the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh”. My grandma passed away last year. Bless her heart may she rest in peace. But this mac & cheese cornbread is so next level. Also, the manager ended up giving me a drink cup so I could try their organic sodas. I felt like all of them were pretty tasty as I sampled them quickly, but the pineapple cream soda really grabbed my attention. I used to live on Oahu in Hawaii and the Dole pineapple farms have this dessert with this soft serve vanilla ice cream and their Dole pineapple. This was like that in a cup. All in all this place was absolutely amazing and the crinkle cut fries which I didn’t really mention much but were also awesome. By the way… the cheat code for parking… So this place didn’t serve alcohol and I parked across the street at the underground parking garage and it goes right up to the bowling alley which I had a few drinks and they validated my parking for FREE!!! I was able to catch a soft buzz before I went over and and had my meal. The bowling alley was also epic, which I’ll mention in a separate review!

Google
Honestly, the best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had in my life. I’m from the south, but this def impressed and shocked me 😂. It was a bit pricey though, paid about $19 for the sandwich and fries, no drink. As a tourist, there was no parking so that was also shocking, or I didn’t know where to park. I parked in a nearby parking deck which was also pricey.

Yelp
Stopped here before a Suns game and here are a few key points: -The medium is a lot hotter than you would think -Decent flavor -The chicken could stand to be more tender -Good fries -Good ambiance - Took pretty long to come out and there was almost nobody in there, don't want to see what it's like when it's busy -Overall 790/1000

Yelp
Legit!!! Excellent chicken! Excellent service! Clean and well designed seating area. If you are looking for some good fried chicken, this spot was a WINNER WINNER...I don't even need to finish the rest!

Yelp
My husband found this place on Yelp and boy we were not disappointed! It's a unique and chill spot with friendly staff and great music. The food was so good and the heat levels are up to expectations! Definitely would go back if we are back in the area.

Yelp
Great find. Best chicken sandwich (mild is spicy to me but I'm a wimp so order accordingly) and fun fountain drinks. Delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Their chicken sandwich is basically a whole chicken breast. Don't even think about ordering a side unless you brought a friend to share with. The heat is also not to be underestimated. Fresh fried chicken, Nashville style. What else can I say. It's the best chicken sandwich in Phoenix, and I've tried almost all of them.

Yelp
My friend and I went here before the baseball game. We got a chicken sandwich with the coleslaw on the side. It's usually in the sandwich but I asked for it on the side because not all coleslaw is good and that was smart of me because I didn't like it. We got onion rings and the cornbread mac-n-cheese. We split everything and it was alright. They were friendly and the place is clean. Everything came out hot and fresh. The chicken sandwich was good but it was just so dang greasy. Every time I bit into it grease was dripping down. If it wasn't so greasy I'd like it more because it is tasty. The cornbread mac-n-cheese is basic. It was just ok nothing to write home about. The cornbread part of is sprinkled on top. Now the onion rings were the best part of this meal and they weren't greasy like the chicken. They were so good and I wish I could've eaten more of them. We split everything and I ate half the sandwich, couple bites of the mac-n-cheese and a few onion rings and I tried the coleslaw. My friend ate the same minus trying the coleslaw. We had a lot leftover but couldn't save it due to having to go to the game and didn't want to keep the food in a hot car for hours. Nothing was bad, it was just mediocre for me. Because the chicken was so greasy it gave me an upset stomach. It was NOT food poisoning. I just can't tolerate super greasy food. I doubt I'll be back here but if you like Nashville hot chicken and can tolerate greasy chicken, I say give them a try. Just because I didn't think it was amazing doesn't mean you won't.

Yelp
Great service and very clean. My chicken sandwich was delicious and fast. I had seen their billboard off the 17fwy by 7th but never could actually read what the restaurant name was and it's hard to make out what kind of sandwich is pictured. I would have gone to Monroe's sooner if I could have understood the billboard advertisement. All you really get from it is "size matters".

Yelp
Visiting town and wanted a taste of hot chicken. Super friendly staff. Smallish seating area (says about 65 as maximum capacity). I went on a Sunday at 2pm, and there was plenty seating available. Out of the variety of chicken preparations, I ordered the 3 piece mild chicken tenders box with fries, kickin chicken sauce, and ranch. Super crispy chicken and perfectly seasoned fries. The sauces paired nicely. I did notice the pickles were not as pickled as I like them to be. Overall, lovely experience and would visit again for a cheap (~$15) and quick meal.
google avatar

Mikey S.

Yelp
Disappointing experience as the chicken sandwich was dry and tenders were uneven so when you'd bite down it felt rubbery. The pickles were also like half pickled and tasted mostly like a cucumber, not sure if that's intentional. Fries were pretty good and I enjoyed the sauces but there's better chicken joints in the valley. Maybe I just got a bad meal or came on a bad day but can only rate based on my experience.

Yelp
I came here with my friend and we both had high ish expectations. However upon arrival it was rather empty for being a busy hour. We ordered the medium and Hot flavors. Overall the chicken was rather good. And the mac and cheese to me at least is nothing special. It was rather sweet and squishy. No apparent cheese flavor was prominent , a bit too creamy in my opinion. Overall the main drawback was the lack of greeting and overall service. I don't expect people to be ecstatic but to be welcoming would be sufficient to me. No sauce was placed with the order , I don't mind asking for it but I'm sure it is intended to come with the meal. The restroom had an overbearing amount of bleach smell unfortunately, and there was no soap.

Yelp
Bomb chicken sandwich for a casual spot! The heat and flavor were perfect and the chicken was very juicy. I really hate dry chicken and this place definitely makes it right! It's great you can customize everything to your liking. The mac n cheese was a good side too. Everything is definitely filling. The only thing that I would have changed is the music level. It was extremely loud so it was hard for me to talk. Parking is a bit hard to find around there!

Yelp
In town for the weekend and Monroe's is close to our hotel so we gave it a shot. Glad we did! Really good chicken sandwich. Great quality of chicken and great flavor. I got the mild which still had a nice little kick in my opinion. It's a big sandwich and I left about half for leftovers. Sandwich still held up even when reheated the next morning. Not as fresh obviously but still decent which says a lot about reheated chicken in my book. I also ordered the crinkle cut fries and fried pickles. Both were good except I actually would have preferred to ask for more regular pickles instead of fried ones since the regular ones were so good! Nice flavor and crunch to them. Service was fine. You order as a self-checkout style. So you really have to navigate to see the options available. We also didn't get a printout that showed our order number so I had to check the large order screen to figure out what number my order was. The ambience was really cool. They have famous mugshots on their walls and had a great playlist on. Made the atmosphere laid back and fun. If you're looking for a quick non-formal good bite to eat when in downtown Phoenix, definitely checkout Monroe's.

Yelp
I was in the area for a dmv appointment and ordered the vegan chicken sandwich. I ordered ahead of time for pickup and the order was ready when I arrived. The sandwich was delicious and would definitely recommend for my vegan/vegetarian friends!

Yelp
I'm not sure which was better, the food or the staff! This gluten free fried chicken sandwich is out of this world! It's so crunchy and crispy! This has been my favorite chicken sandwich to date! The candor shown by the staff was so welcoming and warming. We will be coming back again!

Ryan L.

Yelp
Amazing chicken sandwich and fries. Friendly staff and fun environment. The chicken is cooked perfectly and is super juicy

Yelp
Checked out Monroe's during a trip to Phoenix. Went during Sunday lunchtime, and I was not impressed much. I think the food itself was okay (I got a mild seasoned chicken sandwich). We were the only customers there, which was a bit surprising during a Sunday lunchtime. We were not greeted by the employees, the girl just stood there silently staring at us waiting for us to put our order in. The music was so loud that we could barely even hear each other speaking. The sand which and fries were tasting, but not anything special compared to the average hot chicken spot across the states.
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
This is the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. I will definitely be back whenever I'm downtown
google avatar

Julian E.

Yelp
Listen, I'm not a big fan of chicken tenders but this place has something. Most places that claim "hot chicken" or "Nashville hot" don't really know much about chicken. I ordered just the chicken and a chicken sandwich. I was very surprised with the amount of flavor that was embedded into the soul of the chicken that slapped my face. I ate so damn much I couldn't stand it. Despite the odd computer display to order from I still had a good experience and will likely go back again and again. You will not be disappointed.

Mathew G.

Yelp
I was looking forward to trying Monroe's hot chicken for I am a spicy chicken sandwich fanatic the fact they didn't have a combo option for sandwich's was wild 13$ for a sandwich is outrageous I don't mind paying a premium for a good sandwich this was a mediocre sandwich I got the hot it wasn't all that hot portion size on the extra charge for fries was good the fries had a good taste but alittle over cooked no sauce for dipping besides ketchup was a bummer I rank Dave's above this simply cause of the price point 23$ for sandwich fries and drink all in all twists hot chicken in still number 1
google avatar

Anthony G.

Yelp
Tasty chicken tenders and good fries. Just what I was looking for in tonight's meal. Recommend the Extra Hot Kick-it-up sauce. Spicy without being overbearing. Had to wipe my forehead only a couple of times - perfect amount of heat. The Mac & Cheese was recommended by so many but, honestly, it was just "fair". The cornbread part -just sprinkled on top? Underwhelming. Also got this because I didn't think the 3 piece tenders would be filling enough, but they were. And a heads-up: there was no ketchup for the fries, and no utensils so perhaps you'll need to ask for these if that's something you'd like (sorry I didn't).

Yelp
Spent a few days in Phoenix for work and heard about Monroe's so i stopped in to grab some lunch. I ordered the classic fried sandwich, ordered Hot which they said was more habanero level spice. The sandwich was hot, crunchy, crispy, moist, flavorful and every adjective you can think of for a DELICIOUS Nashville chicken sandwich. I was emotionally distraught when i saw i was i was at my last bite. I got a side of fries with the sandwich for another $3 or so and these are some of the best crinkle cut fries I've ever had. They were hot, fresh, crispy and seasoned unbelievably well. They had a kick to them without being too overpowering. And there was a ton of them!! The only, and i mean ONLY reason this place didn't get 5 stars was the wait. It's setup as a fast casual type spot where you order from a kiosk and then you wait for your order. The only problem is, took over 45 minutes to get my order. If it wasn't for that, i would've given them 5 stars. I would definitely go back if i was in Phoenix, just gonna try and beat the rush!

Yelp
Horrible service and disappointing ordering service. Walking into the restaurant you are guided to two monitors for ordering. At lunch these lines are extremely long but tend to move fast. However with this being our first time there, we saw there was only one salad listed. After choosing the salad the monitor guided me to a selection of sauce. And not the type of sauce you put on a salad like ranch or blue cheese, the options were southern, mild, medium, hot. So I select mild thinking this was the type of sauce on the chicken that should be with the salad. The next screen asks if you would like to remove any item such as a pickle, or add cheese, or take off onions. I didn't select anything here because I wondered if that even applied to a salad. The next screen asked for specific instructions a commentary space to write something in. I didn't have any special requests so I moved past that and added my order to the cart. I checked out, paid and waited. Fully expecting a chicken salad. Nope, no chicken. Apparently they said you had to indicate you wanted chicken on the salad for them to provide chicken on the salad. However the monitor said nothing about no chicken being on the salad nor did it offer a place to actually add chicken or select a different salad with chicken. It was very disappointing waiting in line both for the monitor and for the order to find out the place made famous for their chicken in fact did not include chicken with the order!!! The manager said "you could get back in line and order chicken if you want it" - extremely rude I might add. I waited in line long enough in hopes that the salad I ordered would have chicken on it. But since it didn't I ended up paying and tipping I might add for lettuce. Thanks Monroe's I will not be going back there anytime soon. And I'm assuming they only include ranch on their salads because they didn't even offer a choice for the type of salad dressing.

Yelp
This is literally a place I daydream about when I am craving a spicy chicken sandwich. Monroe's has the best hot chicken in Arizona in my humble opinion. I have recommended this place to all my family and friends, and I always get a text with them telling me how much they loved it. The chicken is perfect and their spice levels are packed with flavor. People can leave poor reviews all they want based on wait times, but that doesn't change the fact that Monroe's is nothing short of perfection when it comes to their fried chicken. If you want delicious food, know that if there's a line out the door, it's for a reason. Learn to go when there's not as much traffic or learn to wait because it is definitely worth it.

Yelp
This place is downtown right next to the sheriff office. It was quite enjoyable, their sauce is great and the hit is more of a lingering and sneak up on ya all while not knocking u out. It's quite difficult to get that level of heat so perfect and they did it.

Yelp
Thank you for the service! Staff was amazing and the best hype staff we could ask for while we went live to eat the "what da Cluck" spicy chicken sandwich! Love the restaurants vibes and atmosphere! Highly recommend to try this challenge here! I went live on kick.com/Domin8rGaming to do this challenge and the staff was polite, excited and super pumped to be showcased! The customers coming in enjoyed the atmosphere as well!

Yelp
We had food delivered from here and it was excellent. The mild sloppy popcorn chicken and southern tenders were great. Fries and sauce were really good! Excellent and fast service!

Yelp
The food is great. Tasty chicken sandwich and a small mountain of fries was perfect to split between the two of us. What I didn't appreciate about this establishment was their choice of "entertainment" on the television. The music radio TV station they had playing when we walked in was quickly replaced with ultra conservative "news", touting the recent Republican National Convention and an oh so fun overview of the "biased media's coverage on topics such as Micheal Brown, Charlottesville Rally, and COVID". It's hard to keep an appetite when the TV is blaring falsehoods about police murdering kids and spewing what amounts to pro-Trump political ads. I would like to think that this was merely a coincidence but it was very clear that someone was specifically picking this content via YouTube.

Yelp
We decided to try something different and not bad but the staff was a little rude, didn't seem like they were having a good day!

Peter C.

Yelp
Had the sandwich, heat level "hot." Unlike Hattie B's in Nashville, it has flavor and not just the heat. The crinkle cut fries are quite good, too. I'll be going back when I visit Phoenix again.

Yelp
This is our go-to spot in Phoenix for Nashville-style chicken sandwiches. We live in Chandler, but it's worth the drive if you're a fan of this style of chicken sandwich. Other than the drive, the other negative is the parking situation. With it being just a few blocks away from the Footprint Center, parking is limited, and it might take a couple of times to circle around the block to find something. With that being said, I still think it's worth it every now and then. In all the times that we have gone, it's never been a long wait to order or to get your food. They have their system down pretty well, and we have never had any issues with the staff. Everyone always seems to be working, even when it's a "downtime" in the restaurant. In terms of heat level, I usually go with a medium spice. I like hot and probably enjoy it more than others, but with Nashville spice, I think there's a diminishing return when you up the level of spice. When it gets too spicy, it's hard to eat, and you can't enjoy the flavor. Medium is just enough, in my opinion, so that you can enjoy the slaw, dipping sauce, and crunchiness of the sandwich. Inside, it's filled with mugshots of celebrities which is always fun to look at. There are probably some you wouldn't think of, and I'm sure you'd get a laugh at. There are televisions on, usually playing sports, but usually plenty of seating. I don't think we've ever had an issue getting a table or sharing a high-top with someone.

Yelp
OMFG I was furious not finding any sauce there & at my office. I was sure about biting in to a dry sandwich then I took the first bite and the sauce spreaded around omg I wanted ro cry. The mac and cheese??? I cannot describe Sooo happy to find this place

Yelp
Not usually in downtown but here for jury duty. Ate here 2 days in a row because it was that good. Staff was friendly. Chicken was awesome. I got the "hot" on day one and it was awesome. Tried to step up one step on day two and I was wrong. The guy taking my order gave me a fry with the hotter seasoning and it was too much for me. Reverted back to "hot". i got the 3 piece and fries. Fries were crinkle cut and cooked perfect. Give it a try.

Yelp
What's good: portion size, friendly staff What's not so good: didn't pack the flavor you'd expect from a 'Nash hot chicken sandy. If Dave's Hot Chicken didn't exist, this would get 4.5-5 stars out of me.

The staff are great and the place is pretty funky. The sandwich was amazing. The breading was crunchy and not heavy. The chicken was moist and the added pickles and coleslaw made the sandwich oh so good. We ordered fries and got the ranch , ketchup and the spicy pink sauce. They were so yummy but we only ate a few because the sandwich was enough goodness. We ordered the medium sauce on the chicken and it was Hot but it didn't matter. I honestly can't wait to go for another sandwich. Heavenly.

Yelp
Hot damn! Hands down the best chicken sandwich. All other establishments need to apply. Tables, counters, and floors were clean. There were two ordering kiosks at the counter that were easy to use. Decor is contemporary, bold, clean, with mugshots of celebrities all over the walls. Soda fountain area was clean and well stocked. Trash can was not overflowing. Restaurant temperature was just right and the clientele was very diverse in age and color, mostly groups of three or more. Steady flow of customers. No parking lot as this is a downtown location, so you'll need to find a nearby parking garage or meter. Staff was friendly and confident and had a sense of urgency. Staff clothing was casual and well kept. Food ordered all had great presentation, was at the perfect temperature, and perfect texture. All food came in carryout containers which was well appreciated. Chicken sandwich was phenomenal, juicy, crispy breading, bursting with flavor, perfectly spicy, and made even better with the slaw and pickles. Sandwich buns were tasty and soft. You can choose how spicy you want the patty; I chose "hot". Hands down the best chicken sandwich. I can't think of anyway it could be better. Collard greens were so flavorful, I could eat a gallon. Mac and cheese was creamy and topped with delicious cornbread crumbs which added a little sweetness. Moon Pie was so good, huge, and not too sweet which I loved. Tried several sodas from the fountain and they were all amazing. This meal was one hundred percent worth every penny. On my next visit, I want to try more sodas from the fountain, the flaming hot Cheetos side, and try a spicier level of chicken sandwich. Tip: they do not validate parking for cityscape parking garage, so buy something at CVS on your way out. Thank you Monroe's, can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
Some of the best onion rings ever! Big, fat, and oh so crunchy. The chicken sandwiches are pretty hefty themselves and portions of the fries are big enough to share. I guess it's safe to say you won't leave hungry. And that moon pie, just heavenly. I would definitely go back just for the moon pies. Best part is that you get to choose your desired level of heat, you can go as hot or mild as you wish. Only con was the parking, it's in downtown with tons of construction going around so good luck with that.

Yelp
After seeing so many people carrying bags of food from this place, I decided to check it out. Chicken was delish. However... order was wrong, older man at register was really pushy. There was no one else in line so I'm not sure why. The kids up front were very sweet. I paid 49.96 for two chicken sand, 1 3 pc chicken and fries, a water, and a "organic soda that tasted like root beer bottle cap candy. I threw it all away but the chicken itself, but I will say, chicken was good . Oh, kept the water too. Fries, plain bread, coke slaw, and soda(at 4.00) went in the trash. Don't waste your money. Wayyyy over priced. I

Yelp
All introductions aside, this is honestly the best chicken and waffles sandwich I've ever had. I was able to split it into two portions so that I could eat more later because it was so big. It went perfectly with the small side of syrup; I'm such a sucker for sweet and savory meals. We also ordered the standard Fried Chicken Sandwich, and some crinkle fries plus cornbread max and cheese to share. Everything was off the charts. I recommend the entire meal LOL. Monroe's also prides themselves on having a selection of "organic sodas", so we chose the cola and for lack of a better description- yes it tasted organic but in the best way possible. You order on your own from the ipad, and service is fairly quick. My only wish was that it wouldn't take a chunk out of my wallet- it averages out at about $20-22 per person for a meal. I would literally come here multiple times a month if that wasn't the case, but now I can add one more place to my list of where to treat myself to something special.

Yelp
my wife always raved about the food here as she works downtown just next to this restaurant so she had a chance to try it multiple times. I got to try when I went with her once to show downtown to my mother-in-law. I adhere to what she said. This place is lit. The great taste of their crispy hot chicken. Even their mac-n-cheese is worth trying. Limited menu but great quality and one of the best-tasting burgers you can ever try in chicken. I would highly recommend this place. There is no parking in front of this restaurant so plan accordingly. There are multiple paid parking including city street ones but getting a spot on street is always a challenge in downtown depending on which day and time you go there.

Yelp
I've been waiting to try Monroe's Hot Chicken since it has opened and it didn't disappoint. I had the medium heat chicken sandwich with slaw and no pickles. It's a nice size sandwich. The chicken was thick and perfectly breaded and the perfect amount of heat. It will leave a burn but not so hot that it takes away from the rest of the sandwich. There is a good amount of slaw with a tangy sweet taste. As a side I got the collard greens with turkey. The greens were really good. I could have eaten two portions and they aren't small. The greens have a bit of a kick added to them to. Pairs well with the chicken. My buddy had the tenders with fries. It was a good size portion and he really liked both. My only complaint is not really a complaint. The sandwich is $12 and the greens were $5. It would be nice if it came in a combo for $15 but I understand this is a premium spot in downtown Phoenix and the rent can't be cheap. Also you would pay just as much at any sit down restaurant. That being said I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Located in a downtown Phoenix, a few minutes from the airport, it's worth a stop. Be prepared to pay for parking. The basic sandwich is $12, you can specify the hot levels. I ordered hot and it was spicy level 7.5/10 for me. The flavor is good and onion rings are some of the best.

Yelp
HOT DANG this place lived up to the reviews. I ordered the classic fried chicken sandwich with medium heat. The chicken was juicy, white meat, every bite was just so good. Then I decided to add the sauce with each bite and that kicked up the experience about 10 folds! *YAAAAAAAS*. Nicely seasoned. I ordered extra pickles hoping for that tang, but the pickles tasted on the bland side like they haven't been pickled enough. I think if the pickles were more on the tangy side and pickled better, it would have added an extra 10 folds on top! My friend ordered the chicken tenders with "what the cluck" heat level. Yeah it was freakin' hot for me. To me, the heat just wasn't enjoyable, because my ears and lips were on fire and gave me natural red lipstick. My friend enjoyed it. When she ordered that heat level, the staff doubted her, and even asked if she wanted a refund. The owner (I'm assuming) gave her a tender with "what the cluck" heat level to try, and she was fine and liked it. She did not like that they doubted that she could handle the heat, instead of just letting her be the customer and order whatever she pleases. I understand both sides, and simply stating the event. Bottom line: Bomb diggity chicken sandwich, did not disappoint (minus the pickles)! Will definitely make a stop if I ever end up in Phoenix again. =)
