Contemporary Vietnamese cuisine has never backfired on me so I was pumped up and prepared to eat! For a large party of 13, we were given a minimum spending amount of $850. We were a little worried that we wouldn't meet the requirement, so we went ham on ordering. Everyone got at least one drink, with the group largely staying on the sober side that night.
The non-alcoholic beverage section at some restaurants is sometimes non-existent or just three items long, but Monsieur Vo is not "some restaurants." I almost squealed when I discovered a few non-alcoholic bevs I wanted to try. My husband got one of them, of course. The housemade soda was available in two flavors: strawberry and passion fruit. He went with the strawberry, which turned out to be on the sour side but great fizz. I ordered the lychee iced tea and had no regrets because the lychee was slaying.

BANH MI BOARD (Le Fournil baguette, house pâté & mayo, Vietnamese ham, pickled carrots, pickled cucumber)
This was like a deconstructed banh mi and you had to put it together yourself, which looked pretty fun. My friend was closest to the board so she was on banh mi duty and made one for a couple of us. Personally, it didn't taste like the banh mis you would find at local Vietnamese sandwiches shops. It was giving elevated banh mi, and while it wasn't a bad thing, I would choose my local Viet sammiches over this any day. We ended up having more toppings than bread left over, so a few extra slices of bread would've been perfect.
BANH KHOT *GF (Coconut-scallion mini pancake, mung bean, shrimp, fish sauce reduction, Petrossian caviar)
I absolutely loved this but my wallet didn't. Sadly, it's three bite-sized pieces for $21. However, that one bite was delicious; everything came together really well. My favorite part was how the mini pancake looked like a cracker - pure genius.
FRIED OKRA *V (Okra with spicy herb dressing)
This was only $10 and came with a lot of pieces of okra. It might've been my first time trying okra and I liked it more than I thought I would... mainly because I'm not the biggest fan of vegetables. The dressing is to thank for because it made the okra soo addicting.
ROASTED BONE MARROW (Tamarind glaze, Le Fournil baguette)
I don't have much to say about this since I didn't try it except that this came with five slices of bread, which was 1-2 too many considering how small the bone marrow was!
GOI GA *GF (Grilled lemongrass chicken, banana blossom, red cabbage, ginger-fish sauce dressing, roasted peanuts)
This dish surprised me a lot! It reminded me of homecooked steamed fish that's been doused with ginger slices and soy sauce, and that's probably because of the ginger-fish sauce dressing that was used. Even the red cabbage was yummy by itself because of the dressing. I liked this dish but not sure if I would order it a second time. I'd give it a 8/10.
Mains:
PHO GA KHO *GF (Dry pho noodles, chicken thigh, liver, gizzard, fried chicken skin, herb salad)
It was my first time trying dry pho noodles. I'd say that it had the flavor profile of soupy pho noodles, but my brain couldn't comprehend that it didn't come with broth, so my vote goes to the usual pho served with broth.
COM CHIEN CUA (Tamarind fried rice, lump crab, runny yolk, rau ram)
The yolk was confirmed runny! You'd be surprised at how many restaurants advertise runny yolk but don't actually deliver. I was also quite satisfied with the small pieces of crab meat sprinkled in this dish. It reminded me of the fried rice that you could find at Chinese dim sum restaurants. 10/10 would get again!
MONSIEUR PLATTER (Comes with short rib, beef in betel leaf, lemongrass BBQ pork, sugar cane shrimp. Served with woven vermicelli, roasted peanuts, lettuce, pickled carrots and herbs)
This was the only letdown of the night. It was basically a deconstructed summer roll with all the ingredients laid out on a board. The rice paper came in a fancy vessel for you to dip in water so that it softens up before you top it with your choice of protein and other toppings. It came with two different dipping sauces, which was appreciated. There was too little rice paper provided for the amount of toppings given, but we just used the lettuce for wrapping when we ran out of rice paper. The rolls were pretty bland without the sauces. I wouldn't get this again. 5/10
TAMARIND BBQ RIBS (4 baby back ribs, tamarind honey, kaffir lime leaf, sesame seeds, pickled cucumber)
I wasn't expecting much of the ribs, but sheeesh! they packed quite the flavor. The ribs were pretty big too. I'd love to have it again.
BO LUC LAC
Presentation was just ok but it tasted delicious, especially when eaten with the veggies and tomatoes. There weren't enough tomatoes though! I never had this dish before so I want to try this at a local Vietnamese eatery now.
The menu had a lot of vegan/ gluten-free dishes, yet my taste buds didn't even realize that most of them were gluten-free! Note: $3 cake cutting fee pp
