"You’ll start to get the sense you’re in for something promising the moment you smell Monsoon's sizzling onions, garlic, and spices wafting from the kitchen. And, fortunately, the food at this casual restaurant lives up to the warm welcome. Start with an order of juicy tofu-vegetable or chicken momos, then choose from a variety of tandoori and curries (with plenty of vegan and gluten-free options), and don’t forget an order of roti or naan." - Gabi Moskowitz

"Yes, you can get good dumplings by the beach. Chef-owner Ram Chandra Subedi grew up in a small village in the Himalayas in Nepal, and he’s now serving chicken, lamb, and prawn curries, as well as momos and samosas." - Dianne de Guzman, Momo Chang

We had a wonderful dining experience at Mansoon Himalayan Cuisine! The food was absolutely delicious—rich in flavor, freshly prepared, and perfectly spiced. Every dish we tried exceeded our expectations. On top of that, the customer service was outstanding. The staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and made us feel right at home. Their warm hospitality truly enhanced our visit. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for authentic Himalayan flavors and top-notch service! Thank you so much . 🙏

Google
One of the best Nepalese restaurants I've ate at. The food is very flavourful, and there are so many spices in the food. I highly recommend this place. I'm vegetarian and the dishes are very good. I have been here many times and buy take out every time I am in town.

Google
Interiors music and ambience was nice Not authentic Indian in my humble opinion(opinion based on most South Bay Indian places) We ordered few things Bhindi fry was not great ( it had ends of bhindi which is usually excluded before making the veggie), fried too much not very well seasoned Chicken momos was 3/5 Veggie momos filling was missing Chicken masala curry 2/5 Palak paneer 2/5 Chana masa 2/5 Maybe they changed chef recently or some quality issue

Google
I’m a Indian food fanatic and I loved this place! We ordered several dishes as a family and tried them all. They were all delicious and the service was excellent. Very good flavors in all of the dishes and the ambience was fun. Definitely recommend any of the chicken curries.

Google
The service and food were excellent. Our family has different spice levels so it was great that this restaurant allows you to choose your spice preference. Mild was truly mild. I loved the flavors of the dishes. There were clearly marked vegan options as well. The restaurant and bathroom were also kept clean, which is an extra bonus. The restaurant is in a plaza with many parking spots, which is helpful in downtown Half Moon Bay. I definitely would recommend this restaurant.

Google
Absolutely delicious food and warm customer service. Loved the atmosphere with the relaxing music playing in the background. The chicken chow main was easily some of the best I've had and you get a lot of wonderful food for the combination platter. 10/10 recommend.

When we were close to Half moon beach, we got this restaurant. A Nepalese family running this restaurant. Ample of parking outside. Very good attitude by everyone. We ordered Veg Thali and Chicken coconut curry. Everything was very tasty. Would strongly recommend this to all.

If you're in Half Moon Bay and craving exceptional Indian cuisine, Monsoon Himalayan Cuisine is a must-visit. Their Butter Chicken is a standout—tender chicken enveloped in a rich, creamy tomato sauce that's both comforting and flavorful . The restaurant offers a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, complemented by attentive service. Whether you're dining in or ordering takeout, Monsoon delivers a consistently satisfying experience.

Yelp
We recently had dinner at Monsoon Himalayan Cuisine. It has been a while since we've dined at Monsoon; our anticipation was more than rewarded. We ordered the vegetable curry (vegan) and one of the specials, a goat stew. Though we are typically not red meat eaters, we found the goat stew to be outstanding. No gamey odor was detected. The flavors were superbly balanced with the spices in a rich and luscious sauce; the meat, slow-cooked for hours, was tender and most delicious. The vegetables in the curry tasted fresh and not overwhelmed by the spices; again it was a delight to savor. Milan Subedi, whose family owns the restaurant, recommended the house white (a dry French wine) which turned out to be excellent pairing for the entrées. The beer selection, curated by Milan's brother who is a brewmaster by trade, is also outstanding. Besides the fine choice of dishes, wine and beer, we also appreciate the service proudly delivered by its family members. If you haven't tried Monsoon, do consider giving this little gem, in downtown Half Moon Bay, a try.

Yelp
Came here after a long hike at Half Moon Bay and it was the perfect post-hike meal. We ordered the mango lassi, aloo paratha, shrimp tandoori, and Himalayan chicken curry. The shrimp was tasty but a little overcooked. We liked the vegetable curry that the plate came with though. The Himalayan chicken curry was steaming hot when it came out and packed with spices and flavor. The food took a bit to come out but it was well worth the wait. There's a small section where they sell local goods in the restaurant and the whole place has a great ambiance. Would definitely come again if in the area!

Yelp
My husband is Nepali and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Monsoon. This is a cute little family-operated restaurant with plenty of menu items to choose from. For drinks, we got two of their Monsoon cocktails - Basanta and Barkha. Both delicious, reasonably priced, and tasted exactly as described on the menu. The Mango Lassi was great too. For food, we ordered 4 plates of Chicken Momos, as well as the Chicken Sekuwa. This was the perfect amount of food to feed me, my husband, and our 5 and 1 year old. The momos were good but the Sekuwa was my absolute favourite. Such a simple dish but packed with flavour, both the chicken and the veggies that came with it. 10/10 recommend We've been here twice already and this is definitely our go-to spot from now on whenever we're in Half Moon Bay.

The Kami K.

Yelp
One of the best Indo Nepalese restaurants I've been to. Everything was fresh and the flavors were on point. I'm very critical of our food and this place did not disappoint. The service was really good and the ambience was authentic too. We ordered aloo bhanta(eggplant), lamb and chicken curry. This is the only place where I had veggie fried rice where all the veggies were hand chopped and not the frozen kind you usually see. The naan was the best: crispy outside and flaky inside .

Liz M.

Yelp
We went here for my husband's birthday because I saw they had a lot of vegetarian and vegan options. When we first walked in I immediately loved the decor, the restaurant felt very welcoming and casual but had so many interesting things to look at. The staff was very friendly and took time to chat with tables. The staff did wear masks most of the time but I could still tell they were always smiling while they were working. We both ordered a traditional Nepali vegetarian combo meal because we felt like it was a great value for everything that comes with it. It came with Daal soup, a salad with a mango dressing, choice of brown/white rice, saag curry (which is made from spinach), mixed vegetable curry, papadum with a dipping sauce, and some rice pudding with coconut, almond and raisin toppings. This is a great way to try a little bit of many dishes! You can also choose the spiciness level that you like, which is great because I don't like spice but my husband does. My husband raved about the saag curry and said it was the star of the show. I'm hit or miss with cooked spinach, but also though the saag curry was very tasty. The start of the show for me was the rice pudding though lol. Mostly because I absolutely love rice pudding. But everything was delicious. We had a great experience and I would highly recommend trying it out if you're in the area.

Yelp
Nice little, ma & pa, location tucked away in a small strip mall off Half Moon Bay Main Street. Authentic flavors, great options and reasonable places. The chili paneer is so tasty and you can tell them how spicy you want it. I was so enjoying the food that I forgot to photograph the rest of the meal (prawn vindalo and naan). Give them a try!

Mara K.

Yelp
Amazing food and gracious service. Whether you eat in or get takeout, you will not be disappointed. We have tried multiple dishes and they have all been delicious. You can also ask for less spice if your palate is more sensitive.

Sandhya G.

Yelp
We arrived a few minutes earlier than their supposed opening time, but they didn't open until 10/15 minutes later than 12PM (and the most annoying part was there was no sign outside as to when they would return/open the restaurant). We almost missed out on dining at this place. However, I am glad we didn't walk away. The food was delicious, prepared with just the right amount of spiciness. We had the thali and also the vegetable korma, both of which was really good and satisfactory to our palates. It is situated in a great location. What more to ask for, as I have my caffeine fix available at Half Moon Bay Coffee Co, who are located just next door to this restaurant.

Liz F.

Yelp
Went with a friend. My first experience there but definitely not my last! What an amazing combination of flavors and spices to savor.

Elana B.

Yelp
Tbh I think we came on an off night. All four of us walked away from this meal feeling very indifferent about what we ate. The momos were kind of dry. There was a spice in all of the dishes that personally didn't sit well with me. I brought home my leftover chicken momo but ended up just tossing it because it wasn't as good as I hoped. The reviews made this place seem fabulous so I'm hoping we were visiting on a bad day.

Betsy R.

Yelp
Excellent spot in Half Moon Bay with a nice dining room even though we opted for pick up. Ordering online was super easy and the food was ready quickly. Dishes were hot when we arrived back at the Air B&B and everything tasted excellent. Ordered a veggie thali meal, veggie momos, veggie korma plus garlic naan. Loved all of it especially the moms. Generous portions allowed 2 of us to have another meal the next day. And as always seems to taste even better the next day. Would def recommend and eat here again when in this area.

Anuj D.

Yelp
Came here on our way out of Half Moon Bay with my wife to have some chai. When we ordered two cups of chai the server did not say anything about any minimum order. The owner came shortly after saying that if we wanted to order only chai we should do takeout and have it outside as we're taking up a table. The restaurant was only 25% full and it's a Sunday! Things didn't end there as the table next to us was annoyed as well. They were three adults and they ordered two entrees to share. The lady only gave them two share plates as she said two orders equals only two share plates! The owner is ridiculous and miserly with poor service. Not coming back

Leah W.

Yelp
Great service and food options. The staff were really friendly and accommodating the food came out fairly quickly. I like their momo's and the achar. I would have liked a little more salt maybe in the momos but in general a great spot.

Ann M.

Yelp
Monsoon Himalayan has caring, skilled service and amazingly tasty food. I read that the owner had a restaurant in Nepal and the chef came from there. It all adds up to such a good meal!

Grace S.

Yelp
I haven't had much Nepalese/Indian food, but this is the best I've ever had anywhere!! I'll be thinking of Monsoon back home in LA and coming back whenever I'm in the area. Visited this place with a friend after a hike in Purisima Creek. From the start I was drawn in by the lovely decor, which consisted of various photos, flags, and statutes/figures. I also loved that they featured local artists, which added to the decor. I knew absolutely nothing when it came to the food and when I had questions about what to order, both of the people working were incredibly patient with me and answered all of them. After the food came, one of them would periodically drop by with a warm smile and ask how we were liking it (I was inhaling it at that point). I honestly can't say what we ordered other than that it was 2 curries and 2 breads, one curry had chicken in it and one had bamboo shoots and black eyed peas. The bamboo one was slightly sour and the black eyed peas gave it a nice crunch. The chicken one was moderately spicy and still juicy and tender. I need the bread in my life every week before a long run if possible. Overall. I loved my experience and would recommend anyone come, even people totally uninitiated into Nepalese/Indian food like me.

Kevin L.

Yelp
When you walk into a restaurant and the smell is so overwhelmingly good, you know it's going to be a great dinner. That was this place. The staff was great. Food was excellent! This is the first time having chicken momo's, which are like dumplings/pot stickers. The shrimp curry and chicken tikka masala along with the garlic naan was all top rate. Probably the best Indian style food that we have ever had.

Sam S.

Yelp
My family and I took a drive out to Half Moon Bay for a little excursion and stumbled upon Monsoon Himalayan Cuisine. Right away, we were greeted with lovely decor and aromatics that filled the air, signaling that we were in for a treat. We decided to try several dishes: fish tandoori, paneer tikka masala, vegetable chow mein, Himalayan lamb curry, and garlic naan- all were very good. The fish tandoori which was a wild-caught salmon had been seasoned perfectly with a nice smoky flavor. The paneer tikka masala featured a rich, creamy tomato sauce that had us thinking about ordering more. The vegetable chow mein had flavorful, bouncy noodles and was generously packed with vegetables. The Himalayan lamb curry had tender lamb simmered in a well-seasoned sauce. Overall, it was a delightful experience with delicious food. We truly enjoyed experiencing Ram's flavors from his homeland.

Kerry Y.

Yelp
My new favorite restaurant!! Everything was so good and they even had gluten free beer!

Scott H.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic. So much flavor. I get Indian/nepalese takeout everywhere I go and this is top tier. Chicken Tikka was amazing, garlic naan, loved the goat cheese stuffed naan. Super secure takeout containers and packaging. Text with ETA and when order was ready put them over the top. Would recommend to anyone.

Lina O.

Yelp
BEST Himalayan food I've ever had. Highly recommend the Chicken Coconut Curry and the classic Nepal style meal. The serving size is enough for a meal and to have leftovers. I will definitely come back next time I'm in HMB

Sue F.

Yelp
10 Stars!! Small family-run gem with delicious food, ambience, hospitable service, the savory smells and the food, the food. Love the selections of teas too.

Eve K.

Yelp
The food was amazing. The restaurant is nicely decorated. Sadly, it took over 45 minutes before we were served our food. Thankfully it was so great that we considered it worth it. We knew going in that they were short staffed as they had a sign on the door. I am glad we stuck it out. It is worth it.

K D.

Yelp
The service was excellent when we went for Thursday dinner. Lovely son-mom team catered to our needs with welcoming smiles and prompt service. I did not take photo of each dish but as group of six eating family style we had an assortment to share and some to take home for lunch next day! -vegetable momo - chicken momo - papadum - okra - aloo bhanta - eggplant potatoes - monsoon special - combo tandoori - few curry dishes - garlic naan - vegetable biryani - plain brown rice - I had chai and the party had draft beers. All dishes were flavorful and delicious. We appreciated how they asked how spicy we wanted our food - mild medium or hot. That tells me that everything is cooked fresh. They also have a nice selection of beers and wine and even sake. I'm looking forward to going back to try other dishes we missed this time !

Heidi C.

Yelp
I've lived in half moon bay for about a 1.5 years now and what I learned is HMB has so many restaurant that lack flavor expect for monsoon Himalayan cuisine. I always get their butter chicken with some garlic nann and it so so delicious.

Cindy C.

Yelp
Came here for a late lunch after spending the morning at the beach and was not disappointed! It was a busy weekend in Half Moon Bay when we visited but thankfully there was no wait at Monsoon. We were seated immediately and the service was really great throughout our meal :) Mango Lassi: Really really good! It was creamy and sweet but also not too sweet, so it made for the perfect refreshing drink on a sunny day. Chicken Momos: This dish came with 6 momos that were chock-full of ground chicken filling. Each bite was delicious and the dipping sauce it came with provided a lot of flavor as well. Aloo Paratha: These flatbreads filled with a potato mixture were really tasty. They were great on their own but I enjoyed dipping them in the sauce that came with the momos as well as using them as a vessel for scooping curry. Himalayan Lamb Curry: This is the only dish where I would knock off a star. The flavor of the curry was solid, but the chunks of lamb weren't as tender as I would have expected. I really had to gnaw on some of the lamb pieces...

Allison L.

Yelp
The family-oriented atmosphere of the restaurant is the first thing I noticed. All the customers seemed to know the staff, and the staff treated everybody like a familiar face. Food was also solid. We kept it simple with butter chicken and chicken korma but thoroughly enjoyed both dishes and thought the serving sizes were perfect (maybe even larger than they initially appeared).

Leslie Y.

Yelp
I wasn't expecting to find Himalayan food in Half Moon Bay, but here it is. It basically tastes like Indian food to me. The lamb was very tender, but it could use more spice. The interior decoration was eclectic, and it's a little too busy for my taste.

Leah S.

Yelp
I chose this place so my vegan mama would have lots of choices. It was so dang delicious. Every dish was fresh and flavorful. Vegetable fried rice done Himalayan style is so yummy! The Dahl soup was so exquisite, I want more!! The mushroom will blow your mind!!! Fish Curry and Chicken dish.... Some kind of salad too. Service was impeccable. The family running it works together. Some of the best food I have ever experienced in my 56 years of life. New regular spot!! Sorry I didn't take photos we just ate it up so fast hahahah

Shreya C.

Yelp
I had a very bad experience at this restaurant. I went with a party of 5 to have chai and some snack on a windy Sunday around 4 pm in the evening. A lady came after the server took the order and very rudely told us that they expect a min order of $15 per person to able to sit inside the restaurant. I have been in Bay Area for years but never experienced such a behavior . The lady was extremely rude. Nothing about the $15 minimum order was mentioned on menu or outside the restaurant. I would not recommend this restaurant if you plan to grab quick snacks and chai.

Randy F.

Yelp
The best Himalayan food I've ever had. I haven't had that much, but it was amazing. We weren't that hungry and shared an order of chicken momos and the lamb curry combination dinner, but still managed to eat everything. Our waiter even commented on the minimal work we were giving dishwasher! The chicken momos were good but had spices and seasonings that elevated it to another level. The chicken curry combo was such a treat, each dish was great on its own and was awesome as a collection. Fantastic flavors, huge portions, good value, would come again.

Sandy S.

Yelp
Did a quick trip to Half Moon Bay and looked for a place for dinner. Very friendly staff, quick service and food was delicious! I will definitely be back!

Claire M.

Yelp
WOW. Absolutely delicious! We ordered the mushroom and asparagus soups, lamb korma, chicken Tikka masala, and the shrimp coconut curry. All were fantastic. Also moderately priced - for our group of five it was right at $100. Keep in mind that they are short staffed so just go in with patient pants on and you'll have a great meal!

Vrinda J.

Yelp
Ambiance- 5/5 Service- 2/5 ( after standing 30 mins in queue for the table, no one waited on me after I sat, I had to go get the menu on my own, also when I went to get the menu the guy literally had a straight face , and questioned why I wanted the menu ) Food - I ordered veg noodles & cheese balls Veg noodles ( 3/5) I think they used udon to make it, it was very sweet & Americanised. Almost like spaghetti tossed in ketchup with some veggies. It looked appetising but tasted sweet. After having a few bites I felt like I'm eating a dessert, I had to ask for hot sauce Cheese balls - there was nothing special about them. They were bland & average I think this place is good for Americans, but not as good for Indians or Nepalis

Adam D.

Yelp
Hands down best in class. I'm a longtime fan of Nepali and Indian cuisine and the family who runs Monsoon is at the top of their game (or everyone's game, really!). The Nepali dishes as well as their butter chicken and literally everything on their menu is a 10. i would love to sit down here one day and declare: "I'll have everything!"

Allan S.

Yelp
Wow! This place was a gem of a find and we so enjoyed the food tremendously. The mushrooms soup was particularly delicious. The owner was very nice, served us and provided a nice education o his home country. We highly recommend this place and definitely will return!

Bruce B.

Yelp
I came to try Himalayan food so we sampled quite a few different dishes. Vegetable Samosa was amazing as well as the lamb dishes. Here are some photos. The family running Monsoon was very friendly and the food came out quickly. Excellent

Al M.

Yelp
Good location, easy parking. The interior looks like it might have originally been an Italian joint or something, but they've dressed it up with all sorts of tchochkes from back home. Lovely people running this place. They helped us select some good dishes. Momos: excellent, spicier than we expected. Curries: delicious, although difficult to distinguish from Indian restaurants I've enjoyed. I'm not sure what the regional differences are supposed to taste like. Tandoori lamb: excellent flavor, something unique in the spice mix I couldn't identify but was incredible. Breads: good not amazing. Skip the special Kashmiri naan - oddly dessert-y. Dal soup: sleeper hit. Nice spicing and a generous portion. Great beer selection, strange to see so many sake choices. This place was absolutely bustling so the noise level might be too high for some people. I'll definitely be back.

Sunny L.

Yelp
The quality isn't what it used to be. Now, they serve only 6 momos per plate, and the wrappers are store-bought instead of handmade. The food has become bland as well. We used to come here often, but both the quality and service have noticeably declined.

Odie O.

Yelp
Excellent food overall great momos at a great price perfect veggie korma mango lassi has spices large place with lots of decor good service not open until 4 will be back for sure!

Tania B.

Yelp
The shrimp tandoori with coconut rice was delicious. Wonderful service and environment.

Veenita S.

Yelp
Way too overpriced food. Service was slow.Food was balnd! Not authentic Nepalese. Not worth going.

Alejandra M.

Yelp
The best food I have ever tried with the best tasting. The service was just great super welcoming for our first time. I was told so much great things about this place and I'm just super glad I tried and most definitely will be back! Super quiet day and just the smell is loving there!

Nicole M.

Yelp
Great, authentic Nepalese/Indian food at a good price! The staff is all very friendly and you can tell that a lot of genuine love was put into making this restaurant and the food! Garlic naan was perfectly made. We will definitely be back!

Michelle S.

Yelp
Never disappointed! Love this family owned restaurant and recipes. It is our go to when we need a quick dinner.

Jay S.

Yelp
This restaurant clearly had significant love put into it. The ambiance is wonderful, the food was amazing. I had the lamb curry and my friend has the paneer tikka masala. Both were amazing.

Kendall F.

Yelp
This family run spot continues to be our GO TO for Indian food and it NEVER disappoints! We love the Butter Chicken, Vindaloo and Samosas but more than anything else - we love the care the food is prepared with. Always hot, tasty and delivered by family. BEST!

Laxmi Shrma S.

Yelp
Visited with my family and their food was absolutely delicious! Def recommend for anyone looking to try nepali food!

Heying D.

Yelp
I would like to leave 6 stars please. This place is simply amazing!!!It doesn't look like much from the outside, being at a strip mall, but inside, it is an oasis. It looks like a family run restaurant and the people are so extremely friendly and inviting and welcoming. The food was absolutely overwhelming! The naan was fluffy and perfect, the roti were my personal favorite as they were a little crunchier. We had the vegetarian Momos as starter - so savory - and a little salad. My absolute favorite curry was the paneer tikka masala, bursting in flavors and creaminess. The vegetable coconut curry was the runner up. The vegetable korma was excellent too. A little bit richer in texture. The rice was cooked to perfection. We also had the raita which is a yogurt dip with herbs, green chili, onions & lemon green which was literally the vegiies and the mango pickles. All very good. The mango lassi was perfect too. So creamy and yummy - not too much cardamom - PERFECT. I can't wait to eat there again!!!

Lucas P.

Yelp
The service was great the owners were very friendly. We ordered the traditional Nepali dinner with the lamb curry and I was very pleased with the portions and variety on the plate. Everything tasted so good and would really reccomend a stop if you're in Half Moon Bay. The inside has a big fountain in the middle which is a lot of fun.
