Kind of a loud and crowded pub / market experience. The food was solid and there was a wide menu, service was attentive and fast. It's a busy place and seems quite popular with locals. Definitely worth a stop! Second visit and had a delicious oyster po-boy from the specials menu. Wish I could give 4.5 stars!

Google
This place has the best drink menu around. The bartenders know what they’re doing, and the vibe is just right — lively but not too loud. Great place to unwind after work or meet up with friends. The food is always great, staff are a lively bunch. best staff in town

Our Waitress, Donna was AMAZING! Food was outstanding! Cocktails were really tasty. Definitely will return.

Google
This place knocks it out of the park every time. There is something for everyone as the menu is extensive with traditional and global cuisine options. Service is always fantastic, too.

Always delicious, always great service. The tiramisu is the best I’ve had. My husband’s steak was perfect. All of their seafood dishes are amazing and filled with flavors.

I took a friend to a late lunch at Montano's today. The wait staff must have been a little tired close to the end of their shift on a hot day, because it was a little hard to get help at one or two times during lunch. I say that admitting that my friend wanted a lot of advice and support AND AFFIRMATION while ordering. Be that as it may, lunch was scrumptious. My friend had a bowl of potato and feta soup, the oyster platter special and an oyster Po' Boy. I had a chicken avocado chopped salad, and one of my friend's fried oysters. I have seldom tasted a more delicious fried oyster and I used to live in New England. My chopped salad was equally delicious. Many thanks and a few apologies to Montano's for the lateness of lunch and somewhat demanding customer. We had a wonderful meal which was worth the price of that many oysters!

Google
Absolutely love this place! Amazing menu items to choose from and always delicious! Personally, I think they have one of the best Philly cheese steaks around but this time I tried the Po-boy. It was good but not as good as the Philly. My son thought his bento box was cool, and my brothers said his Surf-n-turf was superb. Everyone else loved their meal too and I’d recommend you give them a try!

Jazz on Saturday’s, vibes are good always. Staff is on point. Food is delicious.

Yelp
Four of us, two adult couples, visited Montano's on a Thursday night in April, 2025. Our friends are "local" to the Roanoke area while we were visiting from central Virginia. They recommended Montano's; it was a great choice. While the menu was extensive, with steaks, seafood. Latin choices, salads, and much more, surprisingly, we all independently honed in on one of their daily specials. They offered your choice of lasagna, spaghetti with meat sauce, or eggplant Parmesan with a side salad and bread/olive oil for $19.99 or two for $29.99. The two others selected the lasagna, while I opted for a personal favorite, eggplant Parmesan. The two men also ordered beers. (Both beers on tap and in bottles were available). Our dinners were truly excellent -- very tasty, and with generous portions. In fact, my husband and I enjoyed a full plate of leftovers the following day. Although the restaurant was busy, service was attentive. The waitress even humored us by agreeing to take a photo or two of our group. The restaurant was obviously popular, with a lot of patrons even on a Thursday night. I'm glad that our friend had made a reservation. Else, we might not have been seated. We were seriously tempted by the cakes, and then the gelato, and finally the chocolates on the way out -- but we were too full to order any additional food. Parking was free and plentiful though you might not get a space directly in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is on a busy street, but it's at a traffic light that allows easy access and exit from either direction. We look forward to future visits when next in Roanoke.

Yelp
We ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer - they were great!! We were there around 3 which was between menus. We all ordered eggplant parm and it was delicious and served with salad and wonderful Italian bread/olive oil !! We also took home cream puffs for later. Great service and varied selections for all!! Would highly recommend this long established restaurant!!

Yelp
Montano's is a local institution for all of the right reasons: Located near major intersection, easy to find and plenty of parking; cozy, comfortable place with both formal dining areas and a huge taproom/bar; Attentive service; HUGE menu with nightly specials; Generous servings, reasonable prices. In other words, past reviewers have their reasons, I'm sure, but I don't get it. I would arrange my travel in this region just to have another chance to stop at this amazing place. Had the fried oyster appetizer special--crispy perfectly cooked Virginia oysters on a bed of fresh mixed greens. All entrees come with a generous house salad that also comes with fresh bread with olive oil dipping sauce--the olive oil dipping sauce by itself is worth the price of admission. I also tried the seafood bucatini special, which featured a rich and zippy tomato sauce, chocked full of tomatoes, jumbo fresh shrimp and huge hunks of salmon. So rich and filling. Generous serving and mid-$20 price tag. If folks around here don't get this place--please move about 400 miles to the southeast. My friends (and even my enemies ) will keep you busy.

Yelp
Menu was awesome. Food didn't disappoint. Service was prefect. We were talking and never felt interrupted. Ambiance was awesome. Something for all. Bar, tables, and a dessert counter.

Yelp
We went here years ago and just hadn't gone back. I think the menu was way too big to me. We went back a few weeks ago and enjoyed our food. Allowed me to change my order a little bit from the menu, which was appreciated. Staff is helpful and polite. Service was prompt, food came out in a hurry compared to anywhere else I have been in Roanoke. Today, we were seated in the bar area and it was nice. Again, food was great and service top notch. The one thing I enjoy, the owner comes by to say hello and asks if everything is okay. Really nice guy! Oh by the way, tuna salad is the best I've had.

Yelp
The first time I visited Montano's was for breakfast because I happened to be in the area. Even though it did not earn my 5 Stars at that occasion because of some incidents that happened that you can find in my first review of this restaurant, I was so impressed with the restaurant and the menu, that I pledged to return once again, this time for dinner, and give it another opportunity to earn the 5 Star, which I believed it could get. So last Thursday, after reviewing their website and online menu once again, I decided to return, this time for dinner, and give it a second try. After making a reservation through their website for 6:00pm and listing this visit as "a special occasion," I proceeded to arrive at the restaurant at about 5:50pm, and again was very impressed with the inside decor, and distinguished, yet relaxed ambiance. As I walked through the entrance to the host's table, I was impressed with the variety of desserts displayed in the glass display case, as well as the homemade Italian Ice Cream, and the fresh bread brought in daily by a local bakery. But what impressed me even more was the evening Host who greeted me with a very warm smile and after I told her I had a reservation, gave me the option of seating wherever I felt comfortable. This was the beginning of my discovery that this restaurant is, in reality, the classiest restaurant in Roanoke, and can compete with the best of the best restaurants out there. After choosing a table in one of the dining rooms in the middle of the restaurant to be able to observe the full operation of the employees movement and quality of service to their customers. My waitress quickly removed the extra dishes and silverware from the medium size table I choose to sit at, and asked me to take a seat at the table when it was ready, giving me a copy of the menu. I was very impressed with the variety of outstanding dishes included in the menu and decided to order one of my favorites offered in many upscale restaurants. To start with I picked the Bacon Scallops as the appetizer. As the main course I picked the Montano's Center Cut Filet cooked medium rare, served with a baked potato and fresh vegetables. I also ordered a side salad with Blue Cheese dressing, and asked to be served bread and butter. The waitress graciously took the order very efficiently, and promptly provided all the food in the right order and timing. She also included a dish with oil and spices in which to dip the freshly made bread for the day. As I waited for and enjoyed eating my food, I observed how well and efficiently all the employees of the placed work together as a team and realized what a wonderful operation the owners and managers of this restaurant had designed. The quality of the food was extraordinary, from the bread, to the bacon scallops with savory sause on top, to the presentation of all the food, to one of the most tender Filet I've ever had. Everything was just perfect, and cooked just as ordered. My compliments to the Chef, who we never see, but taste their culinary works of art. The waitress was also amazing in making my dining experience one of a kind. The only thing I missed was a visit from the owner or manager to my table, because I would have liked to congratulate them in person for this wonderful dining experience. For dessert I had the Creme Brule, and it was simple yet tasty. I would highly recommend this restaurant to all those who enjoy fine dining, and promise you you won't be disappointed, but rather you will follow me in making it one of your favorite restaurants around. The place to go when you want to make any day a special occasion.

Yelp
Food was just average yet INCREDIBLY overpriced for what you get. Crowded tables, and a band started up in the middle of dinner effectively killing any chance for us to discuss our very average yet expensive food... which maybe was the point.

Barbara ..

Yelp
I've been a customer since Montano's was at Tower's Mall and it's my FAVORITE restaurant in Roanoke. It's a great place to eat, drink and be merry. It's a very nice place to eat, you'll always get great service and the food is great. It's not pretentious, with tiny portions and frills, just a nice restaurant with a selection to please everyone.

Yelp
I had the BEST fettuccini alfredo ever! The wait staff was amazing & very attentive. We'd made a reservation & was in the back with 2 other tables. It was my MIL's birthday & they also sang & gave her a piece of cheesecake. When in Roanoke, I'd highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Ate dinner here in evening with wife . Orders daily special Manicotti come with salad.$20 Wife ordered Potato Soup. Easy and fast. Not! I finished salad and half of my dinner. Wife had still not been served. Had to ask about her soup. We eat fast and was get desert . Cream Beulah was changed. Not as usual. No taste. This use to be the got to restaurant when all other were bad. Going down hill on a steep slope fast.

Yelp
the food was really bad, fish and chips seemed to be frozen fries and tasteless fish. Overpriced for the food you get. Very disappointed. Our server was excellent tho, so they have that going in their favor. The ambiance was pleasing. They almost have everything to be a good place, all what's missing is good food

Yelp
I've been to Montano's twice - once for lunch, once for dinner. I remember lunch being better in every way - food and service! For dinner, perhaps I ordered the wrong thing (the Latin Specialty Rice, Beans & Greens), but it was far from exciting. My husband wasn't thrilled with his entree either though. You're given bread and dipping oil before your meal, and that was good, as was the dessert. The service was attentive but the server was downright grumpy. I felt like he disapproved of everything I ordered, from my drink to entree. It was odd! The restaurant is not inexpensive either. If I return, I hope it's better!

Sarah D.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Service was okay. Only saw the staff to take drink order, food order & delivered food. Had to get her attention to pay the bill. On the way out I got a scope of the Belgium's Chocolate gelato. It was fabulous, rich, smooth very chocolate. That I will return for.

M J.

Yelp
I have no idea why this restaurant has less than 5 stars because everything was wonderful. Came in for lunch and had the Italian Sub, Chicken Cobb Salad, and stuffed grape leaves. The sub was on wonderful fresh bread and the deli meats were flavorful and so much better than you could get from grocery store or fast food deli offerings. The salad was a large portion and everything was fresh and flavorful. The grape leaves were warm and had an outstanding taste. We can't wait to return and try something different from the vast menu offerings. The staff and owner were friendly and welcoming. Be sure to ask for Nicki when you go!

Robin U.

Yelp
Food was delicious. I had the chicken piccata and the flavor was great. Chicken was very tender. My husband had the ribs which were fall off the bone good. Whatever they do with their sauce it's on point. Service was good also. Sax player was off and on.

Yelp
OMG! What a deeeeelicious Double Stacked Reuben Sandwich!!!!! It was warm, thinly sliced and tender corned beef, Swiss, thousand Island dressing, and the rye was crunchy, but not "hard". It had to be THE BEST Reuben I have ever had! You must order this sandwich....to eat in this wonderful restaurant OR, get it to go. 10 stars, for sure.

Kevin R.

Yelp
This is usually our favorite restaurant in Roanoke and have never had a bad experience. Except for today. Waited an hour for our meal. No drink refills for an hour. Waitress was not knowledgeable about the menu. Asked for no onion on a gyro, got onions. The photos show the small amount of meat on the gyro and the onion. Too bad, we used to love this place. In their defense there were several large parties.

Yelp
All around fabulous! Post Thanksgiving couple's night of 8 ppl, no prob for Chip and Donna. Their hospitality, service and delightful menu rec's were all top notch. Fresh baked bread starter was splendid. Diverse, well priced menu (FOMO engaged) despite some details/descriptions missing (some entrees come with salad, Ahi Oscar came w baked pot, etc). Chilean sea bass, 5/5. Top rec from Chip, got rave review from all who tasted. Fresh, tender, masterfully prepared fish bursting with aromatics and flavor. Served with side salad. Shrimp n grit and jambalaya, 5/5. Same grilled blackened shrimp (count 5), just different starch, grits vs rice. Both were flavorful with a touch of welcomed spicy heat. If you're a thick, not runny grits person, this is your dish! Seems small but definitely filling. Both served with side salads. Beef bleu, 5/5. Brother-in-law said it was among top steak dishes he's ever had; cooked perfectly to requested temp, tender, flavorful, enhanced forkful composition from melty cheese. Mashed potatoes were smooth, creamy and flavorful; asparagus grilled to perfection. Served with side salad. Crab-cake, 4.5/5. Hefty portion, loads of back fin and lump crabmeat with minimal crackers as binding. Remoulade was sweet with a hint of spice from old bay seasoning. Sub'd fries and coleslaw (sweet/vinegar base) in place of rice and asparagus at no charge. Served with side salad. Fried green tomato BLT, 4.5/5. High value, quality for huge portion; made with sourdough in panini fashion. Loved the salty bacon combined with homemade pimento cheese, fresh lettuce and warm fried tomato composition. Note: substituting fries for chips was a surprise $2.50 up charge. Chipotle Chicken BLAST wrap, 4/5. Deli sliced chicken (not grilled breast chunks) with bacon, lettuce, avocado, sauce, and tomato. Large portion; pretty good overall but not the home run other dishes were. Note: substituting fries for chips was a surprise $2.50 up charge. Ahi Oscar, 3.75/5. Came with a basic side salad, house made avocado dressing was dynamite! Blacked tuna was a good sized piece of fish; though mostly tender and cooked to requested temp, flavor was average, also true for crabmeat. Didn't expect a baked potato (not a fan) but elevated it via holdover avocado dressing. Grilled asparagus was great. Homemade dessert cakes, 5/5. You know I have a dessert stomach! Carrot cake was well composed; right combo of not sweet, moist spiced cake w nuts and craisins, adorned with sweet cream cheese icing. Served semi-chilled. Lemon cake also well composed; moist not sweet cake iced with sweet buttercream, topped with gooey lemon glaze. Served semi-chilled. As far as weight in your stomach, I wouldn't call this light. Death by chocolate was the mature, well constructed older cousin of the old school Shoney's hot fudge cake, sans ice cream. Rich, moist, and sweet. Every bite was chocolatey goodness. So glad limited Covid capacity thwarted our first choice. This will be the new destination for annual couples dinners to come!

Yelp
I'm giving three stars and not two because the staff was very friendly and out waiter was nice. But my husband did not enjoy his meal at all. Mine was the blackened shrimp jambalaya which was okay. It was supposed to have chicken and sausage in it but I found one sausage in the entire thing and it was mostly rice. I feel like they could have done a better job on that . We did like their bourbon selection.

Yelp
Plain average grub. Service was excellent. (Shout out to Edith) portions here are average-below average. Ambiance is roadhouse style? Flavor..... Once again, I'm from the northeast where we season our food well and with contrasting I had a "Brazilian" Dish here and the sauce was cream and salt with specs of parsley. It reminded me of Chef boy-r-dee canned food as a kid. Again, it might be a regional flavor thing, but I'm out on this one in the future.

Jerry C.

Yelp
Food service and ambience were all top-notch! Have eaten there at lunch and at dinner lunch has super specials great for the middle of the day. And dinner has its elegant specials that make your mouth water.

Yelp
Always Delicious! Fresh ingredients, friendly staff, and truly creative menu. I recommend to order items exactly as they are (trust them) and try something new each time.

Yelp
Just average. My wife and I went here because we checked the online menu and noticed they had Potato Feta soup; her favorite. We usually go to the Wildflour as it is consistently good and never disappoints. However, they only sporadically offer their Potato Feta soup so we were like "what the heck let's do Montanos". Anyhow, along with her summer salad, she ordered the Potato Feta soup. The soup didn't seem homemade, lacked rosemary, and had a very, very almost nonexistent hint of feta. I on the other ordered the black and blue chicken sandwich which was not blackened at all, or not discernible if it was, and the chicken was overcooked. So an overall disappointing lunch. It wasn't our first time here; we have been several times. However, it was the first time we've been disappointed enough to leave a review. Perhaps it was a bad day, but yeah....quite disappointed.

Andrea G.

Yelp
I had the famous roast beef sandwich it did not disappoint! Tender fresh and delicious My husband The Sailor and he didn't want to eat the second half because then it would be over. The bartender made the best martinis and was attentive and friendly. Its relaxed and friendly atmosphere made it a perfect location. I am sad that we are moving on to our next location with only one visit but we will be back!

Lisa R.

Yelp
My fish dinner was very good but my husband questioned whether or not his steak was really a ribeye. He said it was the toughest ribeye he ever had. He brought most of it home and intends to slice it very thin to eat with his eggs. Not what we expected for a $44 steak. The server was fair. She acted like she was overly busy and did the bare minimum to make sure we had what we needed for our dinners. Overall the experience was so so and I doubt we will be back anytime soon, at least not for dinner.

Yelp
Great bar, great place for a family dinner or a romantic dinner for two. Service is great and you get a feel for old Roanoke in this restaurant because it has been a staple for years!
google avatar

Taneir H.

Yelp
The service was not great, although it did appear they were short staffed on servers so I don't think it is a fair representation of what may be normal service and speed. I did like the atmosphere, I wish their had been more options for pasta dishes, especially for a restaurant branded as Italian food, their are only 4 items to choose from under the pasta section. I selected the Chicken Cacciatore, while it was favorable, I do not think it was anywhere close to what a $27 entree should be.

Yelp
Montano's is a popular international style restaurant in Roanoke, but I'm not sure why. Starting with their pluses, they have a really great beer selection. Had a bottle of Belgium Cheney there last visit that was perfect. You can walk up to their fridge and help yourself to a beer (pay later of course) which is fun. They have also a great selection of desserts at least they look great because I have to avoid that kind of thing. Negatives start with parking. Located in a crowded strip mall it is often a challenge to find a decent parking spot. No worries if you're like me and enjoy a walk. It is a worry if it's raining. .. Most of their dishes have a pasta side and for some reason this restaurant prefers over cooked angle hair style pasta. First, it is really easy to properly cook angle hair to order and serve it al dente. I've tried four times now to get this but sadly it is always mush. And don't even get me started on their veal. That said, if you are interested in a decent restaurant where the conversation is more important than the food then you should give Montano's a try and decide for yourself.

Yelp
The menu is so huge and diverse, there is certainly something for you! The group that I was with mainly ordered seafood dishes. The shrimp étouffée was amazing! Also a seafood pasta that had giant scallops, shrimp and muscles and Shrimp and grits was absolutely to die for! We sat on the bar side and listened to live music. It was so enjoyable and the couple that played Was very talented. We were pleasantly surprised! If it is drinking that you enjoy, they have all kinds of drink possibilities. I am personally a beer drinker and went to a huge row of beer refrigerators where you can grab your favorite craft beer and they will open it at your table. I loved every bit of my dinner. The reason I gave four stars was for the desert. There were so many delicious options and I chose to go for a sorbet. What a sick excuse for a dessert offering. The taste was wonderful but I barely got bigger than 2 tablespoons of sorbet that was very poorly displayed and shoved in a cone that was subprime. It wasn't even half a scoop. I was very disappointed with this. Don't go for the ice cream, go for cheesecake or one of their delicious bakery items.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Friendly service in a good dining environment. The food is excellent. Everything I've ever had was so good. I'll go back again and again. It's one of my favorite places in Roanoke.
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
The place looks like a store when you first enter but the restaurant was pleasantly cozy and inviting. The hostess and waitress were both polite and courteous. We were seated quickly and offer drinks as soon as we sat down. The menu is expansive and the two dishes we got were prepared very well and served hot. The portions are large for the price as well
google avatar

Angela S.

Yelp
We ordered oysters and the shrimp tacos. Tacos were full of sautéed chipotle mango shrimp. Also had cabbage, cheese, and guacamole. They were messy, but very tasty! Oysters were breaded and cooked just right! Remoulade sauce delicious! Ended dinner with hummingbird cake! We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Tracie B.

Yelp
I enjoy my food and my time with friends every time I dine here. Food is amazing. Nice atmosphere. Wait staff is always nice and attentive. Menu is huge and has a variety so sometimes it is hard to choose, but have never had a terrible meal. Sandwiches are awesome too if you're into chicken salad or Philly cheesesteaks. Good burgers. I could go on and on...

Yelp
4 co-workers were in Roanoke for business. We researched a couple of places that were recommended by locals and decided on this place. It looks like a store/dessertary when you first walk in. It's a full blown restaurant and a bar. The menu is super robust and diverse. They had Asian Ramen, Bahn Mi, Kosher deli delights, lots of soup and salad options. They even had basics such a spaghetti. I ordered the Salmon Club on a croissant. No, I didn't take a picture. Was too busy eating and it was delicious!! The salmon was cooked to perfection, but the veggie aioli really makes it. We also ordered dessert. At the suggestion of the waitress I ordered the coconut cake and it didn't disappoint. It was light and moist! They had quite a few craft beer options and you can build your own 6 pack, so that's what I did. I can't wait to taste them all!! I would highly recommend this place and if I'm ever back in Roanoke, I will be going back!!
google avatar

Cara L.

Yelp
I would definitely recommend this restaurant as far as the food goes. The ambiance is a little weird, in that the owner/manager (possibly) was speaking to the waitstaff in a very degrading manner. I agree with most of what he was saying but his delivery made for a very uncomfortable scene and kind of took away from the good meal that we had just had. I would give it another chance however I'd back in Roanoke.
google avatar

Suzanne G.

Yelp
The service was great, she was very helpful and recommended some good things. They were out of a lot of the soup options which was a downer but I enjoyed my salad

Yelp
Great food a must when you're in Roanoke. Everything on the menu is excellent, sandwiches, seafood all outstanding

Yelp
Most extensive menu in town. If you can't find something you are in the mood for, your just not hungry. Excellent for lunch, solid option for dinner.

Linda M.

Yelp
This is one of our top places in Roanoke. We especially enjoy Saturday night jazz. They have some great folks play!! The food is always good. Some good some great! And the service is always top shelf. I saw some negative posts about service so wanted to dispel the negativity with a pic. We arrived Saturday night to find our table decked out like this!! Our waiter knew we always order the same bottle and had it an a fence set up ready for us! Great food, better live music, and the BEST service!

Ethan E.

Yelp
Just visited today. I was very impressed by the food. Steak is great, Mac and cheese, etc. Service wasn't speedy to say but they're busy so it's understandable. Very kind server though. It's a very nice looking restaurant. There was live entertainment when we visited. That saxophone was feeling the music haha! (I highly recommend trying the gelato as well)

Barry L.

Yelp
Great food and good service even Marty can't mess up a good thing. coconut cake always fresh. Always stop here when in town. Barry L

Yelp
normally I would give Montano's a very high rating...but recently I got a chicken salad croissant to go...with tax over $17.00 and intead of the meat packed croissant I expected the chicken salad was sparse and only covered 1/2 the croissant. so if you get anything to bo be sure to inspect your order before leaving!

Yelp
In no way is this review meant to be scathing. The food is quite good and reasonable for me. It is one of the nicer places in roanoke to try with a phenomenal variety. But, it was the consistent experience and reality of my last two visits within 3 weeks that confirms the nostalgia is dead. Let the nostalgia reference indicate that I am very familiar with the establishment before I relocated away from roanoke. The owner himself would make a point to come say hello whenever he saw me. Matter of fact, I saw him on the first visit and he he fist bumped me! That naturally justifies patronizing a place with great food. So, I am very familiar with the restaurant and made a point to go there for my last 2 recent visits to roanoke. However, there is a perception from people of color that have different experiences, mine included. Coincidentally, it seems that each time I had gone there was during their lunch to dinner transition. After being acknowledged by the hostess, there was a bee line straight to the bar. The bar has its own ambience and lighting but not my preference as sit down dining. Each time I asked for somewhere else to sit, the energy changed where it was not the warmest to begin with. I get a spiel that the staff was changing shifts in the area with brighter lighting that is preferred. We were seated the first time as there were server and only one was needed. The server was good but didn't adequately remove spent dishes. My aunt got the fried oysters that were a bit undercooked and the server tried to resolve it with a replacement. I had a Mediterranean variety bowl that was quite tasty, well flavored, light but filling. For my second return visit, the same attempt to place us in the bar was met with the same request to be seated in better lighting towards the front. Mind you, the table setting is different for dinner and lunch with dinner starting after 4. I, unknowingly, again, arrive during the transition within 30 minutes of dinner. I get the same reluctance to be seated elsewhere and we are placed in the very back of the dining area. There is some dialog between the hostess and server with looks in our direction and "she's just going to have to deal with it" is audible to the both of us. How could anyone perceive that as a great start to a dining experience? That "deal with it" person turns out to be our server we're only offered the lunch menu. He proceeds to remove the dinner settings, with less than 30 minutes until dinner, and resorts to lunch mode. I asked for the dinner menu and he has a spiel about the kitchen may not be able to cook the dinner order as yet. We could have meandered over drinks until then but he seemed hurried for us to order. My daughter orders something but I wanted to order from the dinner menu that added to a perceived aggravation. We both reflect the look that the energy has diminished the zeal to eat there. I cancel everything and say that we were leaving. Only then is there a hospitable demeanor asking if anything is wrong. I told him of this being the second time of the seating challenge. He then tells us that he just seated someone where I preferred, 10 minutes after we had been seated, and offers to move us there only after. BTW, the people he had just seated didn't look like our blood relatives. He then explains his 12 years of having worked there, that this is how things went, and it was obvious. I decline letting him know that the energy was negative and soured the anticipation to be there. He gave a neutral apology that formalized disassociation from Montano's. I am accustomed to fine dining and can boast of my own love of cooking which is very darn good! So, the conduit between the table and the kitchen is the staffing of the restaurant that can enhance the dining experience. Sometimes, it can just be the service over the food that keeps you coming back. Even the most agnostic person exercises faith that they are getting a value worth their earned money before it is even seen and tasted. I try to give a place a second chance to redeem if it's worth my money and time. I tried and am at peace to not bother anymore after 8/13/2022. If suggestions are welcomed, it would be that there be some flexibility and seating options offered to people when there's ample and reasonable seating possibilities, some of the staff not come off as biased, and incorporate SOME items from the dinner menu to be available as soon as 3:30 as an attachment to the lunch menu where people can get what they want earlier. Ciao!

Yelp
Wide selection yet everything is good. Owner is always there hands on and a true foodie genius. Large restaurant and awesome bar. Favorite place for locals. Upscale but not overly expensive. You don't have to pay for " beet foam" It's just great food. My favorites: fish tacos. Better than anywhere always very fresh wild caught cod. Avacado salad dressing. Worth coming just for that. I also love the fact that when wild Alaskan salmon is in season they put it on the special menu. I don't know of any other restaurant here that pays attention to seasonal food for their specials menu. The owner of this one location local restaurant obviously puts his heart and soul into it. Don't be put off by such an extensive menu, they have a large staff capable pf making everything from scratch. Great for groups especially. Two party rooms. The food selection will please everybody and all budgets.

Yelp
They didn't give the large menu of what I see others writing about. Ours were mainly sandwiches or burgers of some sort. They give large portions and the food was good albeit very greasy. Dessert was meh. The cake tasted like it needed to be cooked longer and fell apart in crumbles so it was difficult to eat. Friendly staff and convenient location. I may try again if given the other menu. But I don't want another sandwich at the premium price that I can get elsewhere.

Yelp
I went to Montano's for the very first time for lunch on January 2, 2024. I ordered a turkey sandwich with avocado pesto and it was the WORST sandwich I have ever eaten in my life. The sandwich was so dry and salty that I had to eat it while drinking liquid to get it down. I ate half the sandwich because I was getting sick from lack of food for the day. I told the waitress that the food was horrible and she offered no solution at all. She simply said "Oh, I'm sorry." She did not entertain finding a solution to make me, the customer, happy. I told her that I would never set foot in their establishment again and I will not. There was a sign in the place that stated they had won an award and that the restaurant had been in business for 50 years. Well, it tasted like they had been in business for 50 minutes!!! I give it zero stars folks. I gave it one star in order to post the rating.

Yelp
Excellent and efficient service, nice surroundings. Most in our party were satisfied, however way too much salt in the batter on the shrimp and oysters, ruining them.
