Born from a grassroots effort in 2007, Montavilla now runs most Sundays year‑round with farms, bakeries, coffee, and hot food. Spotlighted by Travel Portland and neighborhood sources, it’s a friendly scene with deep community roots.

Nice farmers market featuring several farms and food vendors. Open every Sunday. Definitely worth checking out.

Google
Small Sunday market. A high variety of vendors. Not as many veggies as there is other stuff. The parking lot itself isn’t super pretty but the community is vibrant, and they are doing well with what they have. EBT friendly which is great to see as well.

Google
Great selection of stalls - from fresh organic produce from independent farms, bread & bakes, honey, flower bouquets. Friendly and bustling vibe.

Google
Lovely farmers market, a good selection of veggies, fruits, small batch vendors for bread, meat, fish, cheese, CBD, fermented products, a few food stalls with an adjoining small seating area, and flower sellers. I wish there were more places to rest for a second aside from the eating area. There was a fellow busking and lots of cute dogs. Stop by the education station for free samples of tasty dishes made fresh using products available at the market that day. I'll be dreaming about the roasted fig tomato goat cheese salad for a while.

Oh my gosh this was an amazing farmers market. They have KILLER deals on bouquets. I STRONGLY encourage you to support the wonderful older lady who sells single roses for 2 for $5. She is single handedly trying to support her family. I always buy 2 from her at Least. ❤️❤️❤️ I hope her and her family are well she was so extremely appreciative of me buying her flowers . Here is a photo of my bouquet! I dried her roses to use for rose water/ bath 🛁

my partner and i fancy ourselves as specialists of the stands. markets and fairs are our bread&butter. we arrived after finding a nice east-facing parking spot and walked northwest to find the market. from there, it was a compass' worst nightmare. we zig-zagged, darted and dashed our way from vendor to vendor, procuring all of the most desired produce varieties. green-colored foods, yellow-tinged tubular things, roundish balls of red-orange. afterwards, it was apparent we had spent a good deal of money supporting our (not-quite) local purveyors.

Google
A perfectly sized farmers market - not very big but with lots of great vendors. Lots of produce, flowers, baked goods, and other fun food.

Yelp
Love a farmers market! Enjoyed all the fresh fruits and veggies. Wished there was a bit more variety of stalls and some of the prices were a bit of sticker shock. I did get some interesting plum/cherry hybrids which are delicious! Such a wonderful buy! Overall enjoyed this market and in a convenient walkable location.

Yelp
Oh how I love the local farmer's markets around Portland. The Montavilla Farmers Market is my favorite. It's small but full of life with lots of food vendors, fresh flowers, live music, tasty samples, cute puppy dogs, and friendly energy. This weekend I picked up a few plants for the house, a cup of warm cacao and chocolate bars from Ma Cacao, and some early season radishes that reminded me spring is really here. I also tried an Incan botanical beverage that was unexpectedly delicious -- always a fun surprise.

Yelp
One of my favorite markets because they have ROAM. If you haven't tried it yet do yourself a favor and go get some roti. My sister flies from California to eat it, I'm serious! This market also has organic farms to get produce and lots of great vendors for baked goods.

Quyen L.

Yelp
I live near to this farmer's market but unfortunately rarely attend because it's so expensive. A head of cabbage for $5 a pound. That's insane.I feel like everything is a premium because they can. I happened on a farmer's in Camas and the prices were like 30% less. So not understanding why my local market is so expensive.

Yelp
I love this Farmers Market, it has a little taste of everything. It has fresh, local and in-season veggies from Fiddlehead Farm. It has delicious baked goods from Tabor Bread- I highly recommend the Seasonal Focaccia - I've gotten it on 2 different Sundays from them, it is savory and delicious with Delicata Squash and Sage. You can also get the best apples from Kiyokawa Family Orchard! The vendors and farmers are so nice and friendly. We also have gotten honey and Goats Cheese from that Farmer's Market. It is a nice little Sunday tradition to walk around from 10 am to 2pm on Stark. Check their website before you go, to check their dates.

Yelp
Bad experience. The person running it told me there were 4 spots for busking and it was first come first serve. After driving an hour to get there I was greeted with hostility just for showing up. There was one spot that a regular played. Then, when I setup a vendor pulled in and threatened me with his van. Kept creeping toward me because he did not want to unload from 2 feet away. So I had to pack up and let him in. Anyway, I'd say this spot is on a typical Portland trajectory. Hostile, inaccurate, and definitely not welcoming to visitors.

Yelp
I used to go here all the time, but it's just not worth the effort any longer. The idea of a farmers market is to get quality local produce and foods for a decent price - skipping the middleman that inflates prices at local stores. So, my most recent experience was with Fulton Farms selling $5 per pound for peaches... FOR PEACHES! Not even organic, but pretty good overall. New Seasons has local peaches for $3 per pound that are equally amazing. Ok, so I decide to buy a box. 16 peaches for $50. They tell me if I return the box I can get a $5 credit. Fast forward to 2 weeks later and I go to turn the box in. Nope, I can't just get $5 credit for my purchase, they expect me to buy another box of peaches for $45 to use my credit. When I put my purchase back, they seemed perplexed that I want my $5 box back. Seriously. The previous trip we bought $2 ears of corn. Horrible corn. Mealy, no flavor. Tossed our 90% uneaten corn in the compost bin. Double what you pay for local corn at New Seasons. I'm not comparing against stores like Winco or Fred Meyer here. New Seasons sells tons of local produce for half the price. I love the idea of supporting local farmers, but I'm not giving my money away either. I just don't see the draw to ridiculously expensive produce stands at a farmers market. It used to not be this way.

Yelp
Thursday alert: through September from 4-7pm, a bite-sized version takes over the Montavilla Plaza at 79th & Stark, with a beer garden and live music. I grab take out from Ya Hala & a microbrew from Threshold and make an early evening of it before grabbing my produce and a slab of Sebastiano's focaccia. Kulfi frozen pops are available, Baird orchards fruit, Moorish Roots farm (my favorite greens grower) along with flowers and berries. I get overwhelmed at the larger Portland markets, so this has been my favorite summer activity and shopping opportunity.

Yelp
There's only one hot food cart and the food while it sounds good. It tastes ok but the bowl of scrambled eggs got old quick. The owner or what every she is was sort of rude, forgot to give me my change back. I had kind of an unpleasant lunch here.

Yelp
Best Farmer's Market! We were visiting the city and we are so happy to have stumbled upon this Market. We definitely do not have this experience at home. Delicious aromas and friendly vendors. If we return to Portland, we will make sure to visit this location again!

Kaylin R.

Yelp
Hopefully I can change my review if this farmers market can get their hours right. I'm super bummed I checked everywhere to be sure they were open and showed up to find an empty lot. Please fix your hours! I'd really love to check this place out

Yelp
So I can sit here and review the Montavilla Farmers Market. It is another farmers market in town that happens on Sunday's in the Montavilla neighborhood. Organic fruit and veggies. Check. Live music. Check. Sol Pops. Check. You've read the other reviews already. I'm not going to repeat what has already been said. I'm not going to repeat what has already been said. I'm not going to........anyway, this market has something that makes it stand out from the other markets. Drum roll please. Just know I'm currently listening to a drum roll. This market has Tomato Pies from Sassafras Kitchen (http://www.sassafraskitchen.com/). Ok, maybe I'm a bit biased. I'm friends with the owner of Sassafras, but if I didn't dig her Tomato Pies, I would tell you the reader and her the owner about it. This is actually the first time I've had one of these pies and boy oh boy it won't be the last time. Yum yum yum. I said yum sir!!! I'm told tomato pies are a southern food staple. Never had one in the south, but I've now had one in the Pacific Northwest. Here is the skinny. It is a 4 inch pie with a very light crust and loaded with tomatoes and Tillamook cheddar and topped with herbs, spices and caramelized onions. If you don't like this pie, you don't like America. So to wrap this up, Montavilla Farmers Market. Yet another farmers market in town, but with an extra ingredient. Tomato Pies. Not good for smashing in someone's face, but good for shoving in your mouth.

Yelp
Sadly, it is increasingly common for "farmer's markets" to have little in the way of farm produce. There are now more flower vendors than produce farms at this one. This farmer's market" is all about food carts selling you cooked meals. There is now a bagel vendor selling unhealthy white flour bagels. There are now two humus vendors. Little of the cooked food appears to be using local produce. The original idea behind farmer's markets was to enable home home cooks to reduce their carbon footprint by using fresh local produce. Now it is all about getting someone else to cook for you and forget about where the food came from.

Yelp
What could be better on a Sunday morning in Portland than loads of farm fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs, flowers, and baked goods too...oh of course don't forget the coffee too. I did my morning yoga and still had plenty of time to catch the farmers market and stock up on raspberries, oregon strawberries (the best), rainer cherries and bing cherries; all of which were half gone with in just a hour. I also could not pass up the perfect looking and tasting 2 for $1 zucchini. Montavilla Farmers Market is a great variety of fresh produce and other goods. Its not too big and not too small...its just right. And with the savory aroma Flying Pie pizza coming from just down the street how could this not be an awesome place to be?

Yelp
This market has everything you need, plus fun things I didn't know you could find at a market (local wine, spirits, beer). They also offer SNAP match. I was so inspired by my first visit that I joined the board!

Yelp
Farm-fresh, organic fruit and veggies within walking distance of my house? 100 stars. It's not the biggest, baddest, busiest farmer's market in Portland, but I has what it needs to, and lacks the crush of an average of 12K/day visitors that the PSU one gets. While the offerings are a little more sparse than average, you've got veggies, meat, fruits, flowers, bakeries (2 or 3), tamales, sausages, and... well... what more could you need? Open Sundays from (some time in the morning before I wake up) until 2pm, the produce section of the grocery store just came to me. Pooches are allowed at this one, and since it lacks a mob-scene crowd, that's 100% fine with me. Bring the strollers too. Bike on over and get your fresh veggies, support your local farms, and eat better. Your body and your community will thank you.

Yelp
Dear Montavilla Farmers Market, You got five stars from me just because you are open on Sunday. I love that about you since Sunday is usually my grocery shopping day. Sweet cherries, fresh veggies, hot tamales, yummy bakery goodies, what's not to love? Thank you for being there for me on Sundays! Love, Olivia T.

Yelp
I'm fairly neutral on the whole "organic" movement. I have tried to eat organic food from markets and grocery stores, and I have always been underwhelmed to say the least; if it's not mushy apples, it's insect laden berries. At the end of the day, I usually just go back to the good ol' genetically modified, insecticide coated goodness that is supermarket produce. The Montavilla Farmer's Market however is different however; I've been there 3 or 4 times now, and I have yet to eat anything that is less than fantastic. From the produce to the pastries to the coffee, it all rocks! I can foresee myself visiting here for many years to come. I guess that's bad news for the supermarkets of the world - Step it up you corporate giants!

Yelp
5 stars just for being a farmer's market that's not difficult to navigate to and from! There's plenty of parking around on Stark and the side streets, with bicycle parking right at the market itself. Just like the downtown market, if you don't have cash, they have a credit/debit card machine for you to buy tokens redeemable at all the vendors ($1.50 charge). This market is smaller, but that's something I love about it. You still get everything you want/need: farm-fresh veggies and fruits, baked goods and fabulous food vendors. There are also a few flower vendors and even a tent-o-truffles! The prices are slightly more than the grocery store, and that's OK because not only are you getting a better, fresher product, but you're also supporting your local farmer and/or business! Dogs and children and smiles abound - the atmosphere is so relaxing and friendly. It has the rustic elegance I've come to love about good farmer's markets and I can't wait to go back next week!

Yelp
I love this little market. It's big enough to have pretty much everything that you need, but not so big that's it overwhelming (I'm looking at you, Portland Park Blocks Farmers Market). Sweet vibe here with dogs, kids, and fantastic vendors. Food carts around the corner if the prepared food items at the market aren't enough. It's a true neighborhood market.

Yelp
One of my favorite farmer's markets. It's on the smaller side, so there aren't big crowds. Has a great variety of stands: -produce stands -fresh flowers - usually reasonably priced (about $8 for a beautiful, full bouquet) -pastry and bakery stands (Gabriel's breads, a french bakery whose name I can't remember = excellent; the cupcake place, pretty disappointing - expensive and lacking flavor) -meat stands -cheese stands - Rogue creamery, sometimes a fresh goat cheese stand -fresh ice cream, tamales, Thai (delicious eggrolls!), BBQ, kebobs, and more hot foods I come here every Sunday! I'm lucky it's pretty much in my backyard.

Yelp
I love to cook. That being said, I love cooking with fresh meat and veggies. They are here in abundance. They don't get any fresher than this folks. Not unless you're growing/killing them yourself. I love heading here on Sunday, picking up a box full of veggies and cooking up a storm for the family. This truly is a Portland gem in the rough.

Yelp
Well, if you don't get hung up on the mediocre stalls and stick to the good ones you'll do okay. Khombucha is heavenly. Nectar Cafe to die for. Bought some overpriced veggie pate that I was naive enough to think was vegetarian because it was sold next to tempeh and vegan tuna salad. It has lamb's quarters. I threw it out. Wish they'd made clear that it wasn't vegetarian because you sure can think it's veggie by the title and the placement. The two samples I had would mean I have now had meat accidentally five times in my life. Thanks random farmer's market stall for nearly doubling my life intake of meat by your lack of clarification. And yes, thanks to me for assuming. I did assume...but...veggie pate in between the tempeh and vegan tuna salad? I feel like it's a trap for vegetarians. Our tamale had hair in it but it did pass the taste test from my boyfriend. The dude selling them was in the middle of a spirited conversation with someone he wasn't helping and couldn't take the time to ask me anything or get information. I smiled at him passive-aggressively and didn't tip. I'll stick to the tamales rajas en El Grande. The blueberries this year are not the best but the cherries and raspberries are wonderful. I don't think it's the fault of the farm that the blueberries are soft and not flavorful, I think it's the weather we've been having and that we're at the butt end of the season. I got half a flat anyway and will use them in smoothies. I wish I'd bought morels from the mushroom guy, those mushrooms looked amazing! Also, the bourbon boysenberry was some of the best jam I've ever tried. Overall I was pretty disappointed. This is a small market and that's fine but there is definite improvement that can be made with the current stalls. I'm sorry to have to write that because four years ago this was my favorite place. Maybe the accidental meat eating over influenced my annoyance but the bunch of little problems really added up.

Yelp
I have lived near Montavilla for over a year now, and it has only been for the Winter Markets that I have finally made it to Montavilla's Farmers Market. I love the variety of winter produce (apples, pear, carrots, potatoes, tons of squash, various root veggies) which even though they don't get me as excited as the first berries of the season, it is still great to have such a local, decently priced option around here. And, even though the Winter Market only happens once a month (Jan, Feb, and March) it kind of makes if feel that much more special. And, most of the winter produce has a much longer shelf life than Spring/Summer produce, so you can stock up for the month. In additions to produce, I love it for eggs, bacon, bagels (try the jalepeno cheddar - YUM!!) and ice cream. They also have a good selection of other meats like salami, sausages, roasts, steaks, ham, etc.

Greg R.

Yelp
Fuji apples were from last years crop, coffee vendor house blend was flavorless, tasted 'watered down'. Other than afore mentioned comments, nice market
google avatar

Yelp
Organic produce, check! Female owned farms, check! I like this market just fine. It's way better than driving all the way down the Saturday downtown market. This one is not overcrowded. Best of all for me? They do EBT match, "Double Up Food Bucks" at this market, and not all markets have the opportunity to do so.
google avatar

Paige H.

Yelp
One year later, I still love it. In it's third season, this market is not the biggest, but it has great stuff, lots of yummy eats, and it's fun to hang out with people in my own neighborhood. Today while chatting with another dog owner, we found out our dogs already know each other from the doggy day care around the corner. There are some new vendors this year, and many of the old favorites, don't miss it, from 10-2 on Sundays.
google avatar

Michael Q.

Yelp
This is really a weak market, to be perfectly honest. I see all the raves from other shoppers, but I am not sure what their needs are, or how picky they are about produce. The selection of farms is small, and those that display here are not that interesting, or complete. It's nice to have a market within walking distance, and I do browse most Sundays, but more often than not, I walk away empty handed. (Ok, I grow a lot of my own stuff, so...) I can't understand why they can't recruit one or two of the larger farms I see at other markets, but maybe they are wiped out after Saturday downtown. E for effort, C or D for the result. Keep trying! Whatever, yer gonna go anyway!
google avatar

Yelp
My local Farmer's market is a perfect example of what neighborhoods can do in Portland. Great vendors with produce, coffee, lunch, and entertainment for all ages. Deliberately small and friendly. A nice alternative to the big downtown market if you don't feel like braving the crowds.
google avatar

Aaron V.

Yelp
A bit of a joke as far as farmers markets are concerned. Not nearly as good as the PSU farmers market. There are only three actual farms selling product, and only one has any good produce. All the rest is one flower vendor, lemonade guy, hot lips soda, BBQ vendor, Thai food, Mexican food, a couple of bakeries, sausage vendor, and a couple other misc vendors. Watch out for fruit from farm in SE corner, their berries are garbage. Nice to have the market there, but they need better vendors.

R S.

Yelp
Yes there are a lot of farmers markets in in Portland and surrounding communities. Yes many are bigger or on different days of the week (though personally I prefer Sundays). This one is big enough (30 or more vendors int he middle of summer) to have the variety of the bigger markets, but I don't have to to be pushed and shoved, I have an oppportunity for lovely conversation with the vendors, and there is usually entertainment as well (cooking demos and live music). I live in this neighborhood, so I'm not impartial. But if you live in Montavilla, or Tabor, or what ever nearby neighborhood, you should give it a try when they get going again in spring (I can't wait).

Yelp
This was a great experience for our second day of vacation! It gave us a good idea of local businesses to visit and provided a lot of fresh and local choices for snacks. We came out of this experience with a very positive attitude about the culture and livelihood of the town. I highly recommend this to any visitor looking for a good social experience in the Portland area!

Yelp
Can't believe I haven't written a review of this awesome farmer's market. This is a gem of a farmer's market. Varied offerings of both raw materials and prepared foods, no pretense, and it's a manageable size and not full of throngs of people. Can't wait till it resumes a normal schedule again on Sundays.

Lia N.

Yelp
I love the Montavilla Farmers Market, and it's just getting better. This was a weekly venture for us last year, and this year is off to a great start. They have wonderful vendors who are friendly and helpful, and there is a good variety of types of booths as well. Fresh fish, lots of veggies and fruits, flowers, and a nice assortment of ready-to-eat food (like tamales, bbq, and fresh lemonade) await you. It is still very much a neighborhood market, and we're always happy when we leave. New thing this year: it's so busy now that people are running out of things! So get there on the early side. I missed out on tamales today. :) There's also a new program in place where you can use your debit card to get tokens to use like cash.

Tim C.

Yelp
4 stars for the market that seems to be getting bigger and better every year. It would be 5 but it's got aggravatingly short hours open only 4 hours a week. Seems a waste to spend so much energy setting everything up only to end it so early. How about extending it until 5:00? It certainly seems like the customer base would support it. Yea local produce!
