A neighborhood favorite since 2005, this Sunday market in the hills balances small-town feel with a reliable mix of farms, fish, and prepared foods. Frequently recommended by local guides, it’s managed by the Oakland-based Urban Village team and anchors weekend shopping in Montclair.

Veges were not as fresh as other farmers markets. I noticed the oranges were $5 a pound which seemed over priced to me. I did like the organic strawberries and Chinese dumplings both. Both were good.

Google
An amazing farmers selection with a choice selection of farmers with very fresh and affordable selection. Small market done very well.

L Z

Google
Good market, but for some reason the citrus people think they can charge $6 lb across the board? Several produce vendors jack up the price at this market compared to others they go to. Starter bakery and my favorite meat company, prather ranch are there, so that makes this market worthwhile. The Asian vegetable vendor is good. Parking is easy and free on the main road.

Google
Wonderful farmers market. Highly recommend.

Ken Lem

Google
Perhaps one of the smaller markets, but still adequate selections for fresh produce. Free indoor parking is only one block away. Pleasant surroundings since it's in the midst of Montclair Village.

Justin Snider

Google
Great farmers market that is easy to navigate and has tons of produce and prepared food options. Still great though fewer stalls lately. More prepared food than before too. Getting new vendors!!

Alexander Blank

Google
Somewhat expensive. Best tomatoes and strawberries (in season) you can find. Better fruit and vegetables variety would improve the reason to shop there. Otherwise Berkeley bowl is almost as fresh but has more variety and better prices.

Google
Extremely rude vendor "Starter bakery" Ruined my day. One of the lady at STARTER BAKERY yelled at my 2yr 10 month old grandson. After social distancing line, finally went up to stand and he started point at the net where cookies he wanted were, his tiny one finger tip was barely close to the net and she started yelling not to touch. I do understand we live in strange time with covid19. BUT First of all his finger tip wasn't even touching the net, barely close to it and bakery goods were on the other side of the net. Second if they were so concerned they should wrap their bakery goods in individual plastic wrap instead leaving it out in the open air. Third she should learn more about customer service and communication skills. There must be a better way to communicate rather than yelling at kids. By the way I caution my grandson always not to touch things in public and also we all wear masks even my grandson, more then anything for his own protection I still can not get over how rude and unreasonable and unpleasant she was. I suggest to stay away from this Starter Bakery if you do not want to ruin your family outing especially with little kids. My one star rating is not a reflection of other vendors. With all other vendors I had felt they were all friendly and helpful always.

Yelp
First time at this farmer's market and only about a block long. There were a good variety of vendors. The strawberry vendor at the end seemed the most popular. Long line and prices were reasonable. Definitely will be back when in the area.

Yelp
My fav local farmers market on Sunday mornings. Always can locate fresh produce, fruit and other items. It's always a special treat to go with an open mind & visit vendors.

Yelp
This is a long overdue post as last I've been was in October. The Montclair Village Farmer's Market is a vibrant spot full of fresh produce, delicious food, and local vendors. Supporting local farmers is such a meaningful way to give back to the community while enjoying fresh, seasonal produce. It's a great feeling to know that every purchase helps sustain small businesses and keeps the market thriving! Among the many great stalls, Kashiwase Farms stands out as a must-visit. They consistently offer some of the best stone fruits I've ever had, juicy peaches, nectarines, and plums that are perfectly ripe and bursting with flavor. Shore Catch has super fresh oysters that taste amazing. They're salty, sweet, and really fresh, like they just came out of the ocean. It can be hectic at times walking around as there is large crowds at 11:00am, however, it definitely feels like a great way to spend a Sunday!

Yelp
Grew up in Montclair. Wonderful Village Town. Great Shopping, Restaurants... Everything is within walking distance. Great for the whole family

Yelp
Meant to stop by Colonial Donuts and that Korean mini market on a random Sunday, but ended up finding lots of other things at this farmers market instead. Things worth buying: - Bolani filled flatbreads + eggplant pesto, artichoke hummus, mint yogurt - Handsome Carvers nut butters Pro tip/fun date idea: stop by the dispensary down the street and grab yourself a $1 pre-roll before walking thru the farmers market

Yelp
There's a good amount packed in this little corner of the farmer's market in downtown Montclair - some regulars around the bay area farmer's market like phoenix pastifico, the bolani guys (samples are generous), donna's tamales, starter bakery, roli roti, and a few others like a couple of produce stands, happy girl farms, strawberry and blueberry stands from the central valley, prather farms meats, a kombucha stand, a fresh nut milk stand, and more. Parking is kinda tough in this area although no meters in action on Sundays. Having colonial donuts open right there on the main drag is helpful. would not go out of my way to frequent this market, but it's not bad if you're in the area.

Yelp
This is a great neighborhood farmers market. It has all the variety of fresh produce and prepared food we need while not being overwhelmingly large. Even by 1:00 PM there is still a good selection of most items (strawberries excluded). It's so convenient too to be able to walk to your choice of coffee shops or the donut shop for a nice leisurely Sunday, or to have brunch at one of several restaurants in the village. Anything you couldn't find you can pick up at Safeway or Lucky, also within walking distance. The garage offers free parking on Sundays so you won't have to hunt forever to find a space.

Yelp
One of my fav Farmers Markets in the East Bay. I like to meet and support farmers for the most part. Do I still go to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, yes. However, I prefer to do business here as much as possible.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
We hit this farmers market a couple times a month. Almost every vendor is friendly and consistently there each weekend. Our favorites are the pita chips, oysters, fresh produce, eggs and ciders. Dogs can be tied to the meters or posts on the sides. There is usually live music and also food vendors to eat at. Parking can be difficult but not impossible. It's isn't a huge farmers marker but it has a good enough variety. No luck finding bananas here for some reason. Pros: Fresh produce, friendly consistent vendors. Cons: Difficult parking but it's Montclair. Bottom line: Quality produce and food.

Yelp
Never fails...most people hit up the Farmer's Market for the fresh, organic products and meats...not me! Show me those Bakery and food stalls and I'll go crazy! Smaller Farmers Market that only takes up 1 block of Moraga Ave...about 4 different bakeries, a fresh, organic bacon stand, honey and bee pollen, momo (Nepalese dumplings) and samosa offerings with sauces, kettlecorn, Maui chips, plenty of produce and 2 food stands: Indian and the the Roti chicken truck I don't recall picking up any fresh veggies or fruit but did leave $27 at various vendors and brought home momos and sauce and Starter Bakery goodies and caneles...sheesh...you would think I was shopping hungry and didn't have breakfast but apparently my earlier meal didn't cut it....maybe next time I'll even leave with some fresh beets and other produce to mix things up :)

Yelp
Small and mighty farmer's market that get the job done. We love that it's a 15 minute walk from our house. Takes place every Sunday from 9am-1pm. There's even an oyster stand that shucks fresh Kumamoto's 3 for $7, and fresh ceviche. There's a guy at the end of the street on Mountain that sells the best berries, make sure you visit him!

Yelp
Sunday farmers markets are rare in the East Bay, making Monclair Village the spot to be for next weeks' meals (especially when you've a case of the Monday Blues). While the market is decent, I'll only shop there if I've missed the various Saturday farmers markets in the areas. Pros: - Fresh local food if different ethnic varieties - Fresh Indian street food, crepes, and rotisserie chicken - Location close to coffee shops and restaurants Cons: - Parking is difficult to find - Few vendors (15 total) - Mostly the same vegetables from each farmer, no flowers, small selection of fruit
google avatar

Yelp
Farmers' markets are to me like mini-festivals that allow you to experience both the food bounty and culture of a community and its locale. If you're in the area on a Sunday, the Montclair Village farmers' market offers your standard array of fruit and vegetable stands, pizza ovens, baked goods, organic meats, fresh and smoked wild fish, dairy/eggs, bolanis, sauces and more. Some vendors accept ATM/CC, but it's always a good feeling to have a fistful of dollars on hand for the rest. One of my favorites is the raw oyster stand, where you can stand & slurp to your heart's content. Another, the middle Eastern bolanis, 2 for $7 - perfect fare for that nearby hike at Joaquin Miller Park! There are several restaurants in the village where you can catch a breakfast or lunch while you're there...give it a go!
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
Am not a fan of this overpriced, limited farmers market held on Sunday mornings. It's definitely less crowded than Lakeshore's Saturday market but there simply aren't enough vendors, and those who are there charge Whole Foods prices.

Yelp
I don't want to spend $45. every Sunday at a few prepared and specialty food tents at the Mont-la-ti-da Farmers Market, or any farmers market, and then hope to reward myself with a nice looking pair of leeks. I want to fill my bag with California farm-fresh produce for under $30. Is that an outlandish freakin' request? Why, I did this sort of thing at the Santa Cruz and Sacramento farmers markets all the time...not more than fifty years ago. Phoenix Pastificio has a stand here and I'll make a special trip for their wares -- especially the rustic olive baguette and lemon and parsley fettuccine -- and I'll walk the quick loop in search of vegetables but generally I'll have picked up my greens at the Grand Lake Market, if not Berkeley Bowl, the day before, and picked up my "good time" at the Temescal Farmers Market on the same Sunday. Also, I find the "Village" a little creepy, as in "Hey fixed hair ladies: why are you turning your nose down at me when we're all drinking the same $3.50 Peets' mocha next to the same Una Mas and Noah's Bagels found in just about every other Oakland neighborhood?" (Although if a laundromat opens on Mountain Blvd. I'm so there!)

Yelp
We love the farmer's market in Montclair every Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm. Year round! My husband and daughter go there every week to pick up our favorite veggies. We buy from the organic farmers and we like what we get. My daughter loves the artichokes. They are amazing. When we get them at Berkeley Bowl or Whole Foods they are almost as good. When we get them at Lucky, Safeway, Village Market or any other supermarket ... they pale in comparison. No contest. We like our Sunday mornings in Montclair Village. At least we do not work on Sunday and we can really enjoy the freshness from the farm ... delivered as close to our door step as possible. Thank you Helen and the Montclair Village Association for supporting the farmer's market coming to Montclair. It is a great addition to our community.

Yelp
I just recently moved to Montclair and while I haven't been to this Farmers Market yet, I laughed when I saw that most of Lauren S's "First To Review" review was a direct quote from the farmers' market website. http://www.urbanvillageonline.com/ (click on "Markets") I bet she's a speech-writer as her day job ;-) Anyway, I have to find this free parking garage one of the reviews mentions because when I drove by last weekend, parking looked to be a serious beotch so we went to the Temescal Farmers Market instead!
google avatar

Danielle K.

Yelp
Nice area, but the sellers can tend toward the surly side. I also think the prices are so much more than the other local Farmer's Markets in Oakland ($1.75 for a small parsley?). No last minute deals when they pack up at the end of the day, unlike the norm elsewhere. Still, it's a cute Market in the middle of the quaint Montclair Village and it's very family friendly.

Yelp
I'm finding the produce a little better quality here than the lake's farmers market. Giving them one more star because I spent a good amount of time talking with one stand about the many uses of Turnips and great recipes. For the first time ever I cooked the turnip greens (which I normally would throw away) and it was delicious! Perfect sauteed with some garlic, has a little lemony or mustard kick to it. Next time I think I'll add it to a bed of brown rice or throw on some red curry and a few other veggies. Did you also know that turnips are also great for the sinuses and in some cultures use them to cure colds. Also great when eaten raw, I'd say tastes like a mix between radish (less bite) and a potato or cauliflower.

Yelp
LET'S GO TO THE FARMERS MARKET! Bring your favorite basket or cloth bag (it's sustainable and environmentally friendly!) Vendors travel from Santa Cruz County and beyond, such as Twin Girl and Happy Boy, and H&H Fresh Fish, who supply high quality and time honored fruits, produce, and fresh seafood, while Rainbow orchards hooks it up with the best apple juice on the planet. The farmers markets will become a pleasurable ritual in your life if you let it be; connecting you to your community, seasonal foods, and the farmers who grow what you put in your body. Its great for your health, and our environmental, spiritual and culinary progression. Its easy to recycle/reduce and/or reuse your plastic bags. After each market, tuck them back into your market basket. What's a "certified farmers market" you might be wondering? The certified farmers' market concept is an effort to re-establish the traditional link between farmers and consumers in California. Put simply, certified farmers' markets (CFM's) are "the real thing", places where genuine farmers sell their crops directly to the public. It is where the agrarian community relates to the urban community. Certified Farmers' Markets are instrumental in preserving the diversity of California agriculture by providing marketing outlets for the small acreage growers of heirloom, culinary, ethnic, organic, no pesticide, and other specialty crops not widely grown on a large scale or found at traditional food sources. It's also refreshing to know that you are buying food directly from the producer of that product, something required at a "Certified" farmers' market. Notice the "Growers Certificate" visibly hanging at the farmer's stand. This certificate is issued by the County Agriculture Commissioner authorizing them to sell only the certain crops listed and grown by them. The interaction between you and the farmer is also a nice value in visiting the farmers' market. Another good reason to come out and enjoy the weekly Farmers' Markets is to eat and cook "seasonally". You begin to appreciate the magic of cooking with the season while shopping "fresh". Shopping for fresh, seasonal produce brings out inspiration and the imagination and creativity in a cook. Its great if you love to shop, sample, and stroll while listening to some great live music!

Yelp
Super Cute farmers market. The town of Montclair is adorable. The Farmers' Market is on the small side (just one block long), but there are plenty of vendors for shopping and eating. I was also super impressed to find a guy offering fresh raw oysters! Wow, what a treat. When you stop by for some oysters, be sure to also try the fresh fish ceviche. Delicious! We followed the oysters with a savory crepe and an Indian vegetarian wrap. The Indian food was decent (the guy serving the food was a total dud) and the crepe was very high quality and delicious (buck wheat crepe with lox, chives, egg, and sour cream). When I return, I would skip the Indian food and possibly try the Peruvian or Nepalese. Have fun!
google avatar

Robin K.

Yelp
A small, but jam packed Farmer's market. Raw oysters, petaluma cheese, organic and fresh produce, organic honey, roast chickens, kettle corn, baked breads. The prices are higher than other farmer's market; I blame that on Montclair yuppy inflation.

Yelp
For a compact area, the village has much to offer. I will attempt to make the list as complete as possible. First of all, the Sunday farmers' market is a must for take away prepared food, fish, pasta, produce, baked goods and more. Street tour- 3 pizzerias, womens' boutiques, 3 drugstores, Indian, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Israeli, burgers, Thai, French bistro, breakfast, Italian, bar/bar food and Cal Med restaurants, Safeway, Lucky's, sporting goods, card shops, gift stores, 3 florists, 2 bagel shops, 2 juice bars, sandwich shops (one with gyros), wine and cheese store, vitamin shop, post office, multiple cafes, McCaulou's mini department store with cosmetic counter, mosaic shop, Italian deli, frozen yogurt and ice cream stores, banks galore, independent book store, camera shop, film processing, rug gallery, framing store, toy store, children's clothing stores, bike shop, yoga and workout studios, used clothing store, barber shop, hair and nail salons, beauty supply store, home decor stores, kitchen stores- one with in-house baked goods, doughnut shop, bakery, beauty supply store, shoe store, multiple real estate and title companies, public library, pet supplies, jewelry store, doctors, dentists, orthodontists and vets, physical and mental therapy, a good sized parking garage with the same rates as street parking, and a plethora of services. Look on the corner of LaSalle Avenue and Mountain Boulevard for a complete listing of businesses. It would be nice to have a full time pedestrian street here (it was proposed at one time but objected to by one business owner and one service). The village could also be improved with some hip, exciting food venues.

Yelp
I was a block away and thought I would sneak a peek. It is a small neighborhood FM just taking up one block. Everything to be expected was available just not a wide variety. Fruits, veggies, flowers, jams, hummus, some baked goods, kettle corn (seem to be at every FM) fish, rotisserie chickens, prepared Indian fare and crepes made to order. It was busy with the local residents shopping. There were raw oysters and sashimi grade tuna available which I haven't seen at other FM. It would be great if one of the local FM near me supplied it. It is worth a stop while in the area.

Yelp
This is a review for fabulous Rodriquez Strawberries of Watsonville. They began coming back to the market a couple of Sundays ago, and we were so happy to see them! Their organic berries are consistently delicious and priced right now at $8 for three pints. The price will go down as we get deeper into the berry season. The owners are super nice and friendly, and always throw in a several extra berries. Today it was cold and rainy and they wanted to leave so they sold us a half flat for $10. We've got two pies in the oven right now. Mmm......pie!

Yelp
What a great addition to Montclair!! Farm fresh vegetables, community tables, and live entertainment. They *could* lose that guy selling boring cheese. Not necessary now that there's an *ahem* world class cheese shop just up the street. But, despite their choice of less than stellar cheese booths, this is a great Farmer's Market, perfectly tailored to the local community.

Yelp
On a warm summer Sunday in Montclair village you are either eating breakfast or looking for fruits and vegetables at the Montclair farmers market. Montclair village is a quaint town off of Highway 13 in the mountain area behind Oakland. They have select choices of produce from far locations such as Brentwood, Watsonville, Morgan Hill and Tracy. The market is only one block long, but besides the produce they also offer crepes, Indian food, Mexican food and also live music . I ended up buying sweet corn, brussel sprouts, nectarines, grapes and a large chicken from the Roli Roti chicken truck. I was is in line and there were 5 chickens left to be sold from approx fifty, fortunately I was the 2nd person to buy one of the plump, juicy, herbal basted chickens. One of my friends says they sell out every week so you should go there first. For a full chicken it is $12.00, for a half $6.50. Very Yummy. If I'm not going to be eating breakfast on Sunday mornings I am going to the Montclair farmers market.

Yelp
My husband and I are still new in this area. We have moved into this lovely neighborhood. And when we found out about this market, we are really in love with it. It is such a lovely farmer's market, small but have a really good stuff. Most of them are organic and fresh produce. We often come to this market every Sunday.

Yelp
You've probably seen my rave review of the Grand lake Market. Well, we'll call this one - Mini Grand Lake. It's really quite perfect for me now that I don't ive within walking distance of the lake. I tried to remain true but the traffic and parking downt here was horrible. And I thought the same of this one till I discovered the garage with free sunday parking. Many of the stalls are the same great ones that are at Grand Lake on saturday - including the people with the salad mix with edible flowers, the red vevet cake guy, the twin farm, the roti roti peeps, the Afghan food guy, and several others. It's definitely smaller and I do miss some of the stands I would visit frequently at Grand Lake, but I've never been disappointed. So if you missed the market on saturday morning or don't feel like the crowd, head up here.

Yelp
Rather small (it takes up 1 short block) but covers all the basic farmer's market fare. Compared to some (not the Ferry bldg one), I find things to be rather pricey. The highlight for us is the oyster guy. He carries one variety each week and will shuck them for you on the spot. You load it up with hot sauce, lemon, horseradish or whatever on them and slurp! I love eating raw oysters first thing in the morning! I would give him 5 stars but not for the entire farmer's market.
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
I only come here for Rudy's oysters!!!! They are the absolute best!!!! I love his seafood cocktail sauce. I just love that he has a variety of sauces and hot sauces. His oysters are soooo fresh and good. If you love raw oysters this is the place to go. This was the first place I tried raw oysters and I keep going back because they are so good. But I did here that he raised his prices by a dollar. But I would still go eat them because they are so good. Thats the first booth and sometimes the only booth I go to when I go to this farmer's market. Another booth I have tried is the crepes. Really good and fresh savory and sweet crepes. I also tried the Indian booth. I forgot their restaurants name but their chiken tikka masala and garbanzo beans are really good!

Yelp
I'm so in love with farmer's markets and we are so lucky to have so many in this area. Montclair isn't my favorite neighborhood - I find myself feeling self-conscious and uncomfortable. So I was a bit reluctant to try this market but was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Many vendors, some organic. Good prepared food. We bought several savory turnovers to take home with our bags of fresh produce. Will definitely visit again.
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Lovely farmer's market in Montclair Village on Sundays, not huge, but plenty of produce, meat, fish and cheese.
google avatar

Rock R.

Yelp
If you love fresh raw oysters & clams... this is the place to go!!! they have a booth set-up there which i call it "raw oysters & clams heaven" & the mexican guy working there is friendly.
google avatar

Matt F.

Yelp
Ah, dead of winter. I bought cauliflower, broccoli, baby carrots, and, yes, the oyster guy was present. Don't forget the fresh local fish stall: they are pricey, but they've always delivered really fresh local fish. Except when there is a storm! I've bought crab from the crab guy, pasta, salsa, artichokes, peas, mushrooms from the wild guy, wierd asian vegetables, more peppers than I can count, many fantastic cucumbers. I also buy the best eggs here. Get the organic. Samosa's and sausage sandwiches are great, but, if you're headed for the BBQ guys, make your ribs at home. Oven is better.

Yelp
I just love taking detours with my friend...especially on days we have class together...(we did go to class by the way...we just didn't come as early as we usually do hehe) My friend wanted Starbucks, and this place was the closest place to our school, so that's how we ended up here... So I guess Oakland has proved us wrong yet again...(just because since we've been going to school at HNU there aren't really that many places to go to for food runs before class) Oakland is a pretty decent city I guess...I guess it's just a matter of taking detours and figuring out where to look haha... So Montclair Village...at first, we were like...okay, what's this place about...and when we actually got there...we were like...wow...this place actually looks nice...definately has an older feel to it, but the place looks so cool! Lol...I should have instagrammed some of the shops or something...cute shops, but I wish there were more restaurants around though....I specifically remember seeing a laundry mat and a bunch of banks... Three stars for it being a good first-time experience here...the locals like to people-watch, but are pretty friendly...I wouldn't mind coming back here just because :)

Yelp
This review is based on numerous visits to this farmers market. The oyster guy. The crepe stand. And our long-time friends granola. These are staples. We dont get here every Sunday, but when we do, you can count on us hitting these vendors up. This is a fairly small market with a limited number of vendors - if you're searching for something exotic or hard to find, then you might do better at another farmers market. But for in-season fresh produce and all the goodies you need to make a fresh home cooked meal, this is the place. Honestly, a big part of this market being 5 stars for me is convenience. Montclair is like a central hub for me - my mailbox and bank are here so...at about a 5 minute drive away, Montclair is kinda like my backyard. And where better to hang out on a lazy Sunday morning than one's backyard? Bring your own bags for produce, park in the garage at the top of LaSalle and visit the cheese monger as you walk down from the garage to the market. Fun times!

Yelp
I love going to Farmers Market - it makes me feel like I'm being really supportive of local farmers and merchants, whether or not that's true. The MV FM is the closest to my house yet it is one of my least favourite FMs in the Bay Area. It's really small, lacks variety and I find that the products sold here - even when they're from the same vendor- are not as fresh as the ones you find at other FMs. I think this is why it's not as lively, too. I usually go and come home empty handed. That's a very rare thing.
google avatar

Yelp
It is a good size. Not so big that you are overwhelmed. Produce very fresh and bakery goods yummy. LOVE it

Yelp
I've grown up in Montclair for most of my life, and I have to say this farmer's market is a nice thing to have on Sundays. It's not the largest market I've been too, but it does the trick if you live nearby and need some organic eggs and veggies right away! It's a modest farmer's market that takes up one street in Montclair village. It's full of nice veggies and fruits from CA farmers. It also provides good ideas for dinner: roasted chickens, fresh baked breads, and my personal fav the AWESOME Indian food stand! It's a business from Watsonville (I think) and they make the best Samosas I've ever tasted. They also bring their tandoor oven and make fresh naan right in front of you! There's a bit of music and entertainment, and it makes for a nice background when you're walking around the market. After buying groceries and samosas, I was done in about 20 minutes. If you're looking for a quick in-and-out farmers market, this is your best bet! If you want to compare prices and freshness between merchants, it's probably best if you went to a larger market.

Yelp
I'm impressed. A good amount of food and produce. I found the most awesome German bakery!!!!!! The pretzels were authentic and pretty reasonably priced. Also, I got some Rainier cherries for 4.50/lb.

Yelp
After a week of seemingly non-stop rain, it was nice to step out of the house and take a walk around this quaint little farmer's market in Montclair Village. Some of the staple vendors of the larger farmer's markets can also be found here, such as: Roli Roti Rotisserie Chicken and Gold Rush Kettle Corn. There are also a few produce and fruit vendors, though they hardly have the variety or quantity as most of the other Bay Area farmer's markets around. The real star of this show is the La Marea of the Sea oyster stand. $5 gets you three Kumamoto oysters. Expertly shucked, with all the ocean essence left inside the shell, a little lime and hot sauce seals the deal. They were fresh, had delicate flesh and tasted slightly briny like the ocean. I was amazed at a couple of small children, no more than 4 or five years old at the most. Their dad was feeding them oysters, and they were eating them like there was no tomorrow. They probably had fifteen bucks of oysters each, it was insane.

Yelp
Grew up in Montcalir. Love this place. They have a lot of little shops. Parking acn get kinda hard but there is a parking garage on La Salle, and on Sunday it is free parking. Also if you are careful you can park at Luckys parking lot but don't go over your 1 hour and half or have then person see you or you will get a ticket. Many of the stores in the village are family owned it is a nice feeling to actually see the person that owns the pace and taslk with them. In Decemeber on Thursday night most of the stores stay open a little later for the holidays. This always kicks of the first Thursday in December. There are many good places to eat also and on Sunday they have farmer market and close down La Salle, If you have never been to Montcalir I think you should totallay check it out! There is also a park in the village so you can have a picnic there after a long day of shopping! :)

Yelp
It's not the biggest or the best, but the casual block party atmosphere is comfortable and I appreciate having the option of buying fresh food right down the street from my house. That being said, I think I have bought bolanis once, fruit twice, and those french crepes dozens of times. Still, I said I appreciate the OPTION of buying locally grown organic produce, even as I stuff my face with a buckwheat wrapper of eggs, cheese and ham. Remember to tip your crepe-maker!

Yelp
Everyone here is so honest. I bought a bag of raw, organic almonds and it was $4.50. I told the guy he could keep the money and he insisted that I take the $0.50 and spend it on my wife haha. We always get the chicken tikka malsala wraps and then go to the other side and get the sweet chili sauce from Bolani. This place also has good fruit, especially cherries and apricots. The blueberries are huge but don't have that much flavor. Always a good vibe here and recommended over any other farmer's market in Oakland.

Yelp
It's a farmer's market. Farmers come to sell their stuff. Kids drop things on the ground and cry. Acid casualties from the '60s wail into a P.A. with too much reverb. It's a smaller and pricier version of any Oakland farmer's market. If you really feel like blowing some money, go visit the oyster guy. Fresh oysters - he cracks em open, you eat them. $1.50 a pop though. Delicious.

Yelp
I mostly go for the Smit Farms Fuji Apples. I'll pick up some Strawberries sometimes, or pastries from the bakery booth. It's definitely one of the smaller FM's out there, but worth it. Parking can be a hassle depending on when you go. I recommend 9am-10am.

Yelp
It's kind of a Sunday tradition at this point...I love bringing my little boy and walking through here to buy some LOCAL produce and hear some good music. Yeah it's smaller then most farmer's markets BUT I usually can find what I'm looking for here. I also like that most vendors have a taste before buying way to do things :) Oh you can also get some good bread here! I have literally found bread made from just 3 ingredients...Now THAT is just awesome to me :) For those complaining about price...Get a clue. Really...Guess who's one of the types of businesses that have been hit hardest by the economy? These vendor's are lucky to be in business...Many others AREN'T. I'm happy to support my local CA farmers even if it means paying a tad more. You don't like it? Safeway is a block away... On another note...It clearly says NO dogs. I LOVE dogs but, not here. I have found a lot of self-righteous owners disregard the notice that clearly says NO dogs...They are probably the same people here on Yelp complaining about prices...Please keep your dogs at HOME.
