Dentist: "Now, Cherylynn you have to be very careful for the next several weeks...soft foods only AND chew on your left side."
Me: "SAY LESS....Pinsa time!"
After a root canal today, I decided to treat myself to pinsa.
What is pinsa?
It's an ancient Roman flatbread, a healthier alternative to pizza because it's lower calorie, lower carbs, and lower fat from the ingredients and special prep. BUT, don't worry...it's bomb and doesn't taste like gluten-free punishment.
Soft opening last Thursday is Montesacro Pinseria's second location in SF. They're open for takeout, indoor dining, and outdoor dining (dog-friendly).
Rezzies available on Resy.

* Porchetta: Herb-Roasted Pork, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Sea Salt ($16): https://bit.ly/3aBxVNo
Flavorful and herbaceous but the porchetta was on the dry side, like turkey breast.
* Trippa: Slow Braised Tripe in Tomato and Pancetta, Nepitella, Pecorino Romano ($14): https://bit.ly/3tna5vu
Love tripe so this hit! Meltingly soft in a savory+tangy, chunky tomato sauce. So rustic and comforting. We skipped the complimentary bread but def ask for some to sop up the extra sauce.
If you love offal, this is a must order!
* Casal Bertone: Mozzarella, Crispy Guanciale, Pecorino, Chestnut Honey ($19): https://bit.ly/3znQM97
The exterior crust is delicately crisp with some nice charred bubbling (not hard, dense, or overly chewy) while the inside is light, airy, and pillowy soft. The guanciale (pork jowl bacon) was rich and savory (very generous portion) with the chestnut honey adding a roasty sweetness. With a drizzle of the housemade calabrian chili for some heat...SO bomb.
* Abbacchio Scottadito: Cast Iron Lamb Chops, Rapini, Garlic Rosemary Oil ($34): https://bit.ly/3Q7dVTd
***Requested medium rare.
Not my dish but I tried two bites. Perfectly medium rare as requested, the lamb chops were tender and juicy with a great seared crust and deliciously rich and crispy [thin] fat cap. Simple and done right; it's one of the best lamb chops I've had in recent memory at this price point.
* Pannacotta Al Finocchietto: Vanilla Bean and Wild Fennel Pannacotta, Extra Virgin Olive Oil ($13): https://bit.ly/3xrm79C
Firm, silky smooth, and gently jiggly with a subtle fruity, sweetness from the fennel and evoo. Solid ending to dinner.

The staff was incredibly warm, friendly, and attentive. Our server even brought TT a bowl of water and the chef came out to make sure we enjoyed the food.
Food service started out prompt but there were some lags later on; it's only the soft opening though so I'm sure they'll ramp up soon.

Overall, great to see Montesacro open up in the Marina because this location isn't scurry like the SoMA/Mid-Market one which is a huge plus. And, while there's no shortage of Italian restaurants in the area, Montesacro def stands out from the rest!
