Monumental Market is a cozy, nut-free haven in Jamaica Plain, blending delicious homemade treats, great coffee, and curated vinyl for a perfect chill spot.
"Monumental Market debuted this week under limited hours in the former Monumental Cupcakes space (36 South St., Jamaica Plain), and it joins together three local businesses. The team behind the market includes veteran alumni of Boston-area farmers markets: Kelsey Munger of Lavender Bee Baking Co., Javier Amador-Peña of coffee company El Colombiano, and Chris Antonowich of Light of Day Records. Initially, when news of Monumental Market surfaced last year, plans included ice cream as the third element of the cafe, but the partnership now includes Antonowich, a local musician and brand consultant who began appearing with Light of Day at the Egleston Square Farmers Market in 2018. Monumental Market will showcase selections of vinyl records Antonowich has curated for the space. The cafe portion of the operation features Lavender Bee’s allergy-accommodating baked goods (the entire space is nut-free), including gluten-free and vegan options, alongside El Colombiano’s bagged and brewed coffee, espresso drinks, and specials. The shop will be a base for the businesses, which will continue appearing at local farmers markets. There are limited hours this weekend, with some specials to celebrate the opening, and Monumental Market will launch full hours starting Tuesday, February 18." - Dana Hatic
"A trio of Boston-area businesses are joining forces for a new venture in Jamaica Plain this spring — baking company Lavender Bee, ice creamery Tipping Cow and coffee company El Colombiano will all open under one roof. According to Boston Magazine, they’ll take over the former Monumental Cupcakes location, and operate like a single bakery-cafe to be named Monumental Market." - Tim Forster
