15 Essential Korean Restaurants to Try in Orange County

"The popular K-town soondae outpost expanded to OC with a location inside H Mart in Irvine. Its grew locally, which led to another expansion to Irvine Plaza on Barranca Parkway. The beef short rib soup and the beef back rib soup with glass noodles are the more approachable bowls for first timers but diners-in-the-know come for the soondae, Korean pork blood sausage. It’s served sliced or simmered in soup, which can also be ordered spicy. The soondae sampler is another option to share with the table." - Jenn Tanaka

Google
I visited Moobongri in Irvine and really enjoyed it! I had the Spicy Sundae Set (Korean blood sausage set meal), and it was delicious. The flavors were rich and comforting. I actually recommend trying it without adding shrimp sauce — it tastes cleaner and more balanced that way. Definitely a great spot for Korean comfort food in Irvine!

Vivi Zhang (.

Google
The seafood hot pot was delicious, and the staff were very helpful with preparing everything for us. The blood sausage was also surprisingly good. Overall, a great dining experience—highly recommend!

Google
Party of 4 went for dinner on a Friday evening in October. We got there at 8:15pm and were seated immediately at a booth. We ordered the beef short rib hotpot, the octopus+seafood on iron plate dish, and fried dumplings. Everything was delicious and the quantity of food proved just right for the 4 of us. They moved us to a bigger table from the booth because we would have two cooking plates, and that was the right call. I especially liked the beef ribs. They served us each a bowl of rice and some shared kimchi. We stayed till 11, and were politely informed that they were then closing. Very good experience. Total before tips came to around 180 bucks.

Jiyeon K.

Google
The live octopus was so fresh, you could really taste the quality, and the bossam was moist, tender, and packed with flavor. Every side dish was clean, well-seasoned, and paired perfectly with the main dishes. The restaurant has a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to linger, and the service was attentive and genuinely kind. It truly feels like one of Irvine’s hidden gems. I’m so glad I discovered this spot absolutely worth a visit

Google
I was in Irvine for work, looked for the nearest restaurant and ended up ordering a takeout combo of grilled beef small intestine & beef omasum And it was mind-blowing! The omasum and beef intestines were so chewy, dipping it in their sweet-and-sour sauce was just divine!! And their soondae (Korean blood sausage) — I have no idea what secret recipe they use, but I swear it’s better than many I’ve had before. Soft and sticky in a good way, but not gummy, with an authentic pork blood flavor. Trust me this restaurant is totally worth it trying ☺️

Simon T.

Google
The namesake dish (soondae) is very authentic, but an acquired taste. Probably best to get something else if you're not into Korean blood sausage. Broth is pretty good regardless. Side dishes were a bit lacking in variety and flavor.

Google
The menus are great! I tried the a1. a2, a3(spicy) menus and they were all good. I loved that K-pop musics are played! Sundae is served hot! ☺️💛

Sylvia L.

Google
Absolutely love this place! The soondae and pork intestines are super tasty and clean, and the soup has amazing depth of flavor. Comforting, hearty, and totally hits the spot ,one of my go-to spots in Irvine! 🍲🔥

Yelp
Very delicious !!!! The best Soondae soup place in Irvine!!!! and good service :) will come here again.

Siwan K.

Yelp
Extensive menu featuring raw fish selections. We order blood sausage soup and beer soup. Promptly served with banchan. I need to come back here to try their specialties like bossam and stirred fried blood sausages. Background music is a bit too loud but doesn't bother much.

Yelp
The food here is so good! Super authentic Korean flavors and everything was really tasty. Definitely coming back!"

Yelp

Yelp
Their menu has expanded so much since the last time I've been here. Moobongri is the place I go for really good Soondae. They have such a huge variety of soups to choose from now and there is sure to be one for anyone looking for good Korean soup. Prices are high, but its comparable to other places that serve the same thing. Service is friendly, but when they get busy, you have to try very hard go flag someone down to get help. Their kimchi and radish sides are so good and I always ask for the free refills because I eat a ton of them. I also love that you can request your soondae to be either the Chal or Tojong style. Tojong is my favorite between the two!

Yelp
Best Korean soup and pork belly Banchan is great too. Very flavorful, homemade Service is freindly

Yelp
We came on a weekday for lunch and definitely best the lunch rush! The lady was very nice and patient and came to check in to see if we needed anything. Spicy beef short rib- Came with multiple short ribs and the broth wasn't too spicy. This was definitely shareable as well! The broth was very rich and the meat was also tender. Spicy soondae soup- This was definitely on the spicy side! The soondae was delicious, tasted a lot of the noodles (probably made by hand here). They give about 5 pieces of it in the soup and it also came with some meat inside. Both were delicious on a cold day!
google avatar

Cindy M.

Yelp
Decided to come here for the soondae soup! We had tried another location in Vegas and were confident this was going to be a hit again. We ordered the spicy soondae soup with the soondae side. This dish was very hearty and comforting. The soondae has a thin casing and overall slightly chewy. The soondae also pairs really well with the salt they give you. The spice level of the soup was probably more on the mild side for us, but perfect so you can taste the flavors. Besides soondae there are pieces of tender meat and I believe slices of intestine. The side essentially a dry version of the meats in the soup. The banchan include some chives, onion, tiny dried shrimp, spicy pickled daikon, and kimchi. The last two of the banchan are refillable as far as I know. Service was very friendly. Prices are on the higher side, but I feel like that's for how fresh the food is and about on par to other Korean places. Parking is pretty tight here. Overall, this is a solid restaurant for soondae + soup!

Yelp
Authentic Korean cousine. Very fresh ingredients with some just waiting to be plucked from their tank if you like that sort of thing. Yes they have all the organs and such as well if you are also looking for dinner. The restaurant is pretty small but the food quality is really good. Service was fast.
google avatar

Ha L.

Yelp
Love the gob Chang, it's fresh and delicious. Galbi is great as well, very tender and juicy. High quality meat. The blood sausage is just Ok, not really special. It's a little too bland for me. This place is clean and doesn't have that heavy food smell. Many Koreans eat here, which tells me the food must be good and authentic, right ? Servers are friendly and tentative. If they are busy, you can wave at them and they will get what you need right away.
google avatar

Sally L.

Yelp
they have really added so many things to their menu. they have so many different dishes like bossam, jeongol, etc. always enjoy coming here!
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
The wait was a bit longer than anticipated for a week night but nothing ridiculous. The inside ambiance is casual, clean, and quiet. Service is relatively fast though. Ordered the Bossam (size small) which was the perfect size. Came with green cabbage, Napa, kabocha, bean sprouts, a few mushrooms. Overall was yummy to eat - especially with other banchan. Also ordered the spicy pork belly soup which was yummy (putting the little shrimp in was extra delicious!) didn't try the soondae this time but intrigued to try it next time! :)
google avatar

CoCo C.

Yelp
Food was so delicious! We ordered the Beef Tendon Soup, Spicy Soondae Soup, and Steamed Pork Belly (Small). Every dish was spot on in terms of flavor, portion, and wait time. The banchan was perfectly fermented, paired perfectly with all the food we ordered. Service was great! They were all friendly, attentive, and helpful, even though they were really busy. Highly recommend and will definitely be back regularly from now on.

Yelp
Moobongri is also one of the few places that opens late. The sondae soup is very flavorful. The cheese katsu is crunchy, but I feel like it's not quite there yet. I really enjoyed the live octopus. It still moves while you are munching on it. It's almost like you are playing with your food. I do want to come back to try the intestines. I wasn't a huge fan of their service. Very lackluster and not friendly. This does make the ambience a little hard to enjoy the food properly. And As Always, NOM 4 LIFE!
google avatar

Yelp
Authentic Korean food. The Soondae soup is healing my hangover. I'll come again for dinner and try the live

Yelp
After a night out, nothing beats warm comforting soup for the soul. My wife and I were hungry early morning and found that this spot opens at 10am. We both ordered their spicy sundae guk and it was just what the doctor ordered. It wasn't too spicy and had plenty of ingredients (just the way I like it). The banchan was simple with radish kimchi, normal cabbage kimchi, onions with pepper sauce and chives. Love that they have perilla powder and more spicy pepper paste on the side for you to customize your bowl. We would return! P.S. they have live octopus for the adventurous eaters.
google avatar

Yelp
the galbitang broth was very rich and flavorful, which i loved. i just wish there were more noods in the bowl, because there was A LOT of broth. but, overall still a great meal, especially with the banchan and rice on the side. comforting and hits the spot when you're craving something warm.

Yelp
Authentic Korean eatery that specializes in Soondae. The first thing I noticed upon entering was that most of the customers were Korean. It's a small and relatively clean shop. Came on a Saturday around 8:30 PM. Most tables were filled, but we were seated immediately. Our dishes came pretty quickly and all requests were fulfilled promptly despite only 2 staff waiting tables. The staff speak Korean and English. Standard complimentary unlimited sides. I especially liked the Napa kimchi. They provide ice cold water but if you ask for warm water, they will give you warm barley tea, which I personally enjoyed. Our party of four ordered soondae soup, beef short rib soup (aka galbi tang), beef soup, seafood pancake, and short rib bbq. Prices are pretty standard but portion sizes were a bit smaller. They couldn't find the bbq short ribs on the menu as a stand alone item, but allowed us to order it anyway. I enjoyed my soondae soup. The broth was milky and there was a decent portion of meat (mostly blood sausage and innards). However, some pieces of soondae tasted overcooked. Tip: for these types of soups, you add salty and pepper to taste. I just kept adding kimchi till it was to my desired salt level. My friends liked everything else, but one felt like the pancake was on the dry side. Plenty of parking in the lot.

Yelp
Good food , great ambiance tasty and delicious. Would come back and great service. Attentive staff

Yelp
Absolutely loved my experience here! The food was fresh, flavorful, and came out super fast. The service was even better -- the staff were warm, attentive, and patient, making the whole meal feel extra enjoyable. The restaurant is clean, organized, and has a comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommend if you're craving something delicious with great service. Will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Comfort food!!! Always a must! Service is great, but when it's busy sometimes they may forget what you asked for. It's okay, just ask again. A bit busy and a good wait on the weekends. Ambiance is typical. Kind of a smaller restaurant, but they do have high chairs to accommodate young children.
google avatar

Thidah U.

Yelp
Came here with my bestie and my kids. We love Korean food and wanted intestines. This was beyond my expectations- the broth is not flavored so you have to season it yourself. I actually like that because I prefer mine really spicy and salty. I can't remember what the soup was called, but omg- YUM! It's a cute little family restaurant with lots of tables and a big parking lot. The service was great as well. My daughter wanted to try the live octopus tentacles, but I said no lol she watched too many mukbang shows. Haha would I come back- yes!

Yelp
Moonbongri is one of my longtime favorites -- I've been a fan of this restaurant brand since living in Ktown (RIP Moobongri BBQ), and I'm so glad to have this location nearby. My wife and I came here for a Friday date night and decided to switch it up from our usual soondaeguk and try the gopchang and makchang instead. It was really good! The banchan was also great (we even asked for a refill), and we got the haemul pajeon as well, which was crispy, flavorful, and perfectly done. Service was great -- attentive but not overbearing -- and the quality of the food really stands out every time we visit. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but they can still accommodate larger groups. Plus, parking is super easy with plenty of spaces available. If it's your first time, definitely try the soondaeguk or dwejigukbap -- it's what they're known for and they do it really well. But if you're in the mood for something different, the gopchang is a solid pick. Can't recommend this place enough!

Woo J L.

Yelp
Wow! This is just wow. The seafood pancake is one of the best I've ever had! Fresh, crispy, loaded with seafood and veggies - minimal amount of batter (most important!) Takes me back home to the neighborhood place I grew up with back in Seoul.
google avatar

Shirley T.

Yelp
Finally! A truly authentic Korean spot! I love that they're open late and they're not afraid to serve unique dishes. I got to try the controversial raw octopus - which was delicious and just tasted mostly of sesame oil - in case you're tempted to try ;). Fair warning, the soups, while delicious, will be served at a million degrees, so be ready to drool a little while so it cools down a bit. It's great to see a clean restaurant even after hours when winding down from a long night. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I was craving soondae and intestine bbq, so I had to hit up Moobongri which serve both. This was a very satisfying meal which hit spot perfectly. Small intestines and large intestines: (4/5) Medium comes with only two choices (the only bummer). It is a good portion for two people. I love that the small intestines come in long pieces which keep the stuff inside. Large intestines are very savory but can be a bit too fatty. A bit on the expensive side, but both are very good quality. Soondae soup: (5/5) The soup itself was thick and flavorful, and it had generous amounts of soondae and other innards. Not a lot of side dishes, but I really loved their radish kimchi. Came for Saturday night, but there was no wait and had easy parking. I am adding this place to my "will come back list" for their soondae soup.
google avatar

Joe L.

Yelp
Authentic spicy beef soup. Very good. The spicy pork belly soup was very rich and creamy. Very good service!
google avatar

Sammy M.

Yelp
Beef soup was disappointing. For ~$21 a bowl, there's very little meat inside. Only had a few slices of beef with a small portion of vermicelli noodles, easily only around $5 worth of ingredients. Kimchi was fresh and good, but the soups aren't remotely close to being worth the cost. Save yourself the drive and make it at home instead. Could've been a 4 star if the price to portion was more balanced.
google avatar

Yelp
Everything looks amazing even the sides look really appetizing my kids love the katsu

Bri T.

Yelp
Great comfort food that always hits the spot. Moobongri is one of those reliable places I come back to when I want something deeply flavorful and satisfying. The spicy short rib with veggies soup is the star of the show: rich, hearty broth with a deep peppery kick, tender chunks of beef short rib, and a generous amount of both vegetables and ribs that soak up all the spice and flavor. It's the kind of soup that warms you from the inside out, was just what I needed after a week of traveling. Their kimchi is top notch, perfectly fermented with a bold, tangy crunch that complements the richness of the stew. You can tell it's house-made with care, and it really elevates the whole meal. The portions are generous with a lot of meat in the soups. Service is quick and efficient and the atmosphere is casual and cozy, which is ideal for a solo comfort meal or a laid-back dinner with friends.

Yelp
Food tastes yammy and the service is great! Everyone is friendly and helpful ! Thank you !!

Yelp
Metal utensils and really good service on a cold rainy day. Wide wide variety of food options. Mellow and casual environment with prompt service.
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
A cute little shop in a small plaza in Irvine. Very authentic vibes with yummy food! Their summer selection is full of octopus and cold noodle options! They say they freshly source their live octopus from Korea, but I was a bit hesitant, so I unfortunately did not order it. I did order their spicy cold noodle, a dish that I love eating any season. It was delicious.
google avatar

Grace N.

Yelp
This is a really great place for to go for comfort food. Here, you get to season the soup to taste. The depth of the broth and the flavors are really cozy and warm. I ordered the beef soup and thought that the soup was flavorful, creamy, and rich. Another notable soup was the ginseng chicken soup with bone broth. The soondae was pretty tasty too, and it's a must to order at least a side of it. The kimchi here was also very tasty. The restaurant is clean and has nice ambiance as well. I would come here again for sure.

Yelp
Randomly stumbled onto this gem in Irvine. Food was superb! Must try the G03 Stir Fry Octopus with Seafood & Seafood Pancake! Service was fast and attentive:) Good ambiance for a casual dinner with friends and company.
google avatar

Kenny L.

Yelp
We got the pork belly soup and the beef tendon plate. I thought the pork belly soup was ok tasting, it did not satisfy me as much as other Korean soup places in the area. I felt there was a lack of flavor even after adding a good amount of salt and pepper. The beef tendon plate was great though, first time getting a whole plate of it and I didn't get tired of eating it! Usually I would only get a few pieces that come in a soup, so it was honestly nice to have so much. The tendons were soft with just a bit of a bite.

Jonghui K.

Yelp
Everything is just perfect. So incredibly delicious. You should definitely try it -- I recommend it.

Becky Y.

Yelp
Broth in the sullungtang was rich and the restaurant was clean! Service was to the point and servers were friendly! Our baby back pork rib with kimchi hit the spot! Big enough to eat for about 2-3 people!
google avatar

Chelsea S.

Yelp
SUPER NICE SERVERS! Ladies kept checking in with us to refill our kimchi and side dishes. We ordered soondae gook (blood sausage soup) and spicy pork soup. Amazing quality and a lot of food. so comforting and home-y. 10/10 for all food. Has lots of table for the space so you can come with group. It was little busy but food is super worth it.
google avatar

Turtle K.

Yelp
Live octopus very good. Also they have variety of soup. You will always get what you want
google avatar

Lina K.

Yelp
I had heard this was the go to place to order soondae so we brought my sister here when she was in town to check out Moobongri. We both ordered the soondae soup to try and was surprised at how creamy the soup was when it came out. They have different seasonings at the table to customize your soup to your preference as some like it saltier or more bland depending on your tastebuds. The soup was flavorful and hearty and I would say the perfect bite would be with a kkadukgi (radish) on top of each bite but the kkadukgi here was a bit too sweet for my liking. Otherwise a great meal and would be interested in coming back to try more of their dishes.
google avatar

Kaylee S.

Yelp
I got the pork belly soup and split the chal soondae plate with a friend. The portion size was large and it felt enough for two servings. There is also a lot of meat in the soup. The broth was lighter and not as fatty as other soondaeguks I have had. I personally would have preferred it to be slightly more fatty, but if you prefer more watery broths, you may like this. The soondae was also thinner and smaller than other soondaes I have tried. The amount was definitely plenty for two people. I really enjoyed the taste of the kimchi ban chans. The kimchi is on the saltier side which I prefer. The place was slightly busy at night and had to wait around 10 minutes. It can also get slightly loud. Other than that, the service was quick.

Yelp
We lived in Seoul for 4-years and always looking for real authentic Korean Food. We like having soups in the winter time and this place had Seo-long-tan and Galbi-tang.
google avatar

Mabel W.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place after 8 pm for dinner. Other restaurants were closed and to our surprise, this restaurant had a line out the door. We got seated after 30 min. Lots of items to choose from. I felt like I was back in Korea. Had a lot of authentic Korean food choices. Bone broth items were good. Meals also come with mini kimchi side dishes. Service was good, they offer to refill side dishes and water cups. We had a great time. What a gem to find this in Irvine when we weren't looking.

Yelp

Yelp
Comfort Korean food done right. Loved the banchan and the main dish was perfectly seasoned.

Yelp
The spicy pork neck bone hotpot is really good! Enough for 2-3 people! We also added a side of beef small instentine, really recommend it.
