The 16 Best Persian Restaurants In LA

"If you ask 10 people where the best kabob in Glendale is, you’ll get 20 answers. If you ask us, we’ll tell you to at least check out Moon Mart before making any sweeping proclamations. This tiny Persian-Armenian strip mall spot makes a beef luleh kabab that’s warm, herbaceous and requires very minimal work from your incisors. Plus, the plate also comes with rice, a roasted tomato, and a side salad. Beyond kabobs, they also do an excellent version of the rich beef and split pea stew ghaymeh khoresh served with raw onion and herbs, and an olivier salad that puts all other creamy potato salads to shame. Be sure to pick up an extra side or two of the mast moosir (creamy lebni) for all your dipping needs in the week ahead." - brant cox, arden shore, garrett snyder, sylvio martins

The 19 Best Restaurants in Glendale, California | Eater LA

"Placed on the corner of a somewhat rundown strip mall in Glendale, Moon Mart serves delightful grilled kebabs melding elements of Armenian and Persian styles. Start with mast moosir, creamy lebni with shallots, or shirazi salad before cutting into well-grilled luleh, chicken soltani, and even pork tenderloin kebabs. The service can be a little slow, so don’t expect to be in and out of there in under an hour." - Rebecca Roland

We started with the Yogurt and Cucumber dip. It was okay. It was missing something. Basically it tasted bland, like plain yogurt. We then got our entrees. I ordered the Beef Soltani and my wife had the Chicken Soltani. Both were tasty. We both agreed the best skewer was the chicken kabob. Very moist and flavorful. The next was the beef Kabab. Also very tasty. Then the Lulehs. Chicken a bit better than the beef. The service was good, but as they were busy we allowed for some delays. There were only two people running the place. The outside seating is a nice place to relax and sip tea. All in all a good experience.

Google
We are so happy we found this place in Glendale. Their food is authentic and amazingly delicious. Their shish kabob, chicken, and lule is the best from the many we have tried over the last five years. The owner, Harry, is such a nice person and it shows in the food he makes.

Google
Had an excellent meal at this small, family-owned Armenian restaurant. The owners were very friendly. Had the soltani plate, ghorme sabzi, and salad shirazi along with yogurt sodas. Would definitely go again.

Google
This is my go-to place to eat kabob. If I could, I would eat here every day. Everything tastes so Delicious, Especially their potato salad. I love it. My son is a picky eater. The first time he tried the food here, he wants to eat it all the time. The owner, Harry, and his wife are such wonderful people. They go out of their way to make sure you have a great time in their restaurant. I'm always telling everyone about this place. Once you try it, you'll never want to eat anywhere else.

Google

From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the exceptional service, even though they were busy. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure our every need was met. And the food? Absolutely top notch the appetizers and main courses were all delicious.

Google
This was my first time having Armenian food in LA, so I don’t have much to compare to (although I used to live in Turkey, and there’s a lot of similarities in their cuisines). They took a long time to make the food, but they were generous with the portions, so I can’t complain. The chicken was tender and not dry, and rice was fluffy and soft. Good for a quick to-go option!

Google
What a lovely human the owner is. The food was so delicious that we ordered catering to go immediately. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Moon Mart I love youuuu!! Came on a sunday night around 11. We called ahead to make sure he was open, because in the past we've called and he'd closed a little early. We wanted two chicken soltani plates but they were out of the chicken lule (rip). Luckily, the owner was able to do beef lule instead for a slightly adjusted price! The place was clean and we were the only folks in there that late. We also got the ikra (eggplant dip) and the mast moosir (yogurt and shallot dip). Highly recommend getting this with the plates, it's just so good to combine everything! The owner even threw in a container of hummus for free. Such a nice man. The food was still hot when we got home, everything was juicy and flavorful and well packed. Can't wait to try the chicken lule next time. Seriously so good. Was too hungry to take pics. Already excited to come back. Boyfriend ate my leftovers. Boo!!!

Yelp
Great food for a great price with great service from a small mom&pop restaurant. This is what we need in LA. Great place for when you just want some good Armenian/Mediterranean/Persian food without the pizzaz of raffis.
google avatar

Kyrk B.

Yelp
Got there an hour before posted closing time. Door was still open. Nobody there. About 3 min later a guy come out from the back pulling up his pants and says they're closed and kicks us out. Idk what he was doing back there but he got us out of there early.

Yelp
Last minute takeout order on Mother's Day for 3 shish kabob plates, a long with separate sides of ikra & hummus. I can't believe everything was ready in just 30 minutes! Reasonable prices, generous portions, and a healthy stack of lavash to go with it! Can't wait to try more items from this place!

Yelp
Food was delicious and service was great! Randomly stumbled upon this place when the usual spot we go to had an hr wait. So glad we did. Will come again.

Yelp
Great, great food, and great owners. I definitely prefer this place over Rafi's.. their kebabs melt in your mouth Try it, you won't be disappointed. Anytime we come from San Jose we visit this place.

Yelp
The customer service is great and their food is always fresh and delicious I highly recommend this place one of the best places in Glendale to eat kabob also worth to mention that the owner is very professional and kind

Yelp
We came in about two hours before closing. They were only doing takeout, TWO hours before closing. We ordered the chicken luleh plate for takeout, but I believe they gave me the beef. Not a big fan of eating red meat, but I was already far away. The plate was super delicious. I liked the eggplant side. Sadly, they were out of garlic sauce. Overall, tasty food, and I'd recommend if you'd like a filling meal.

Yelp
Very kind and humble service I loved the dishes got a beef stew and Persian tea and cucumber salad. Great prices chill local vibe highly recommend. Support local business forever

Yelp
Absolutely disrespectful staff. Awful service. DO NOT VISIT THIS Persian restaurant. As an Iranian man, my Caucasian wife and I were insulted in Farsi.

Aimee M.

Yelp
Came here around 10:30pm on Saturday for the first time. They ran out of chicken breast, so we had chicken thigh kabab and they were great! Meat was very moist and tender. Excellent food and service. Highly recommended!

Yelp
An unassuming kebab restaurant in the land of kebabs. Moon Mart is a local hangout for many neighborhood folks. A fixture and kind of a water cooler spot to have a familiar meal. A small dining room is adorned with a an ample size patio area for additional dining space. The small kitchen may be filled with a one or two person crew thus service may be slow on weekdays. The food is also a bit low key compared to your standard restaurant affair. Nearly homestyle, flavors are clean and a tad under seasoned like the usual manner. This all makes quite an average culmination of flavors, but still very appetizing. The portions are decent. Plate sizing can be shared or taken come to enjoy again. As for kebabs sake, the quality is good. Somewhat above par and yet not great. Except for the some sides such as their fresh tzatizki sauce and hummus, which is the best I have had. The service is friendly and caring, just may be a little slow. Take away is available and certain a good choice. Pricing is also a little above average.

Yelp
Thanks to Yelp for the great spot! I found this on Yelp whole searching for Persian food while in Glendale. I wanted a smaller restaurant and not having to wait for a while to be seated. Place was great. Harry was nice, food was outstanding. Plenty of parking there. I highly recommend the food and will definitely return here soon
google avatar

Terry Joseph C.

Yelp
Highly recommend. Their Beef Luleh is great! Make sure to get a side of Mast Moosir (Creamy Lebni) for all your dipping needs. Prices are great and affordable also.

Yelp
Free Appetizers From The Owner (Beans / Eggplants / Humus / Potatoes). Order Chicken Thigh Kabob & Soltani Plate. Good Taste. Nice Owners.

Yelp
While in Glendale, you'll notice multiple middle eastern restaurants but we decided on Moon Mart Kabab and it was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend eating here. We ordered the Soltani that comes with kabob and shish kabob, rice, and a grilled tomato. The flavor and tenderness of the shish kabob was beautiful. The kabob was juicy. You can taste the hint of charcoal. Yum. The owners are super nice. He brought us a bowl of potato salad and that was soooo good! Get the yogurt soda, delish.

Yelp
We went on a holiday weekend & the owner (?) was the only one working so service was slow but okay. He did his best preparing the food & handling the front. Had the combo & food was quite good. Asked for hot water, got 2 plastic bottles of water instead... $1.50 ea.. No ambiance to speak of, simple place with solid food. Sometimes, that's good enough.

Yelp
Although I haven't had the opportunity to eat here (though I will soon), I will say this about the establishment. Due to a familial health issue, I called and inquired about a specific food that is often prepared oily/heavy, and the gentleman that picked up the phone (sounded like the owner), was extremely up-front and honest and confirmed that they do prepare that type of food (abgoosht for those that know) in that fashion/way. Very very rare nowadays for any establishment to be honest and upfront on a matter like that, and, as such, I didn't order from them. For that feat (turning down business due to honesty (which is sadly nonexistent in today's world)) they are, in my opinion, worthy of a 5-star rating. Hope the best for this honest business!

Shalev B.

Yelp
the service and food quality was so great the owner Ari is always working his hardest to get the food fast to you

Yelp
Solid spot for a meal for a fair price. The owner was very friendly and generous with sharing different appetizers with our table. Food was well prepared and tasty. Enjoyed the Mast Moosir for dipping as noted by others. Plenty of parking in the strip mall. Will return again for sure.

Yelp
This is such a cool place. With all the Kabab places around the Glendale area, this one is a gem. I love that this one stays open late to take to-go orders. We had gotten into the area late and were looking for a place to stop for a good meal. The food here is so good and very reasonably priced. I recommend the Luleh combination plate. It comes with a skewer of chicken and beef. If you like eggplant, you have to order the Eggplant Dip Ikra! It's a delicious roasted dip made with roasted eggplant and onions in a tomato base and served with bread. The service is excellent and the owner, Harry, is so hospitable and kind. We will definitely be back on our way through the area.
google avatar

Britnee P.

Yelp
Great service and delicious food. Everything was homemade. I enjoyed the quiet setting of the restaurant. You can't beat the prices.

Yelp
We decided to try a new kabob spot in the area yesterday and were so glad we did. We called to place the order and the owner was very friendly. I got the chicken louleh which came with rice, yogurt, and a grilled tomato. It also came with a couple pieces of bread. The chicken tasted pretty good. The rice and yogurt tasted fresh. The service was great and the owner was really friendly. It's very rare to find a spot with good food and even better service but Moon Mart Kabob is definitely the spot! I highly recommend this spot for a good meal and great service!

LaRida F.

Yelp
The service was terrible. Staff were very scummy and rude. Find another Persian restaurant. Do not visit this place.

Yelp
Full of crap I wanted to sit and order food and he said it's only to go then I see a couple of tables occupied and them drinking coffee. Told me to go somewhere else

Yelp
What a great discovery!! Wish we found this restaurant sooner!! The food is excellent and so fresh! The best pork kabob and chicken lule in town! Seriously THE BEST! The Yogurt and potato salad were perfect complements to the meals. Can't wait to try the Shish next time that everyone in town is taking about. Harry, the owner was the nicest guy and gave such excellent service! Can't ask for more!! We are definitely coming back and often!! Thank you for a wonderful meal, Harry!! ~ DNA!!

Atg G.

Yelp
The chicken thigh kabob was on the dry side. Lule beef kabob lacked flavor. The hummus was too sour and tasted like they just took it out of the freezer. Pita was absolutely horrendous. Tasted like the the bottom of a shoe.

Yelp
One of the few nest middle eastern restaurant. Very tasty food and liberal serving . The server very friendly and kind . I would recommend this restaurant. Please visit this restaurant you will never regret it.

Tigran T.

Yelp
The food is delicious here! The owner is extremely nice and provide excellent service. This is a family run business and they cook everything fresh to order. It may take a few minutes longer than fast food, but they are cooking an authentic meal for you . Support family run small business.

Yelp
Rice tasted nasty, food portion compared to its price very little, side "eggplant" dish was all onion and tasted nasty, overall food quality Zero..I placed the order with Grubhub for 2pm delivery, but the lady called me at 1pm saying the food is ready for pickup..the restaurant is not familiar and computer savvy with online ordering ..my $95 was wasted .
google avatar

Yelp
Terrible food terrible service I ordered a chicken wrap and got the order paid more and the owner said your stuck with what you have

Yelp
Moon mart was a great little place. My girlfriend and I came here randomly and were pleasantly surprised. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was amazing and very personal one on one. Excellent late night meal.

Yelp
terrible service very rude he told us I don't serve halal food and we didn't ask for halal food I don't recommend this place to anyone

Yelp
We were so surprised last night with the owner and host of the Moon Mart Kabob. He was alone and ran the restaurant by himself in a busy night professionally. This place is my favorite place from now on in Glendale and will never go to any other restaurants. The food quality and taste was also the best. Nopne should miss their Shish Kabobs. So tender delicious. Thanks Moon Kart again

Arbi G.

Yelp
Great food and service, cozy place, and friendly environment. 7 days a week, you can enjoy the delicious foods prepared by Hrayr.

Yelp
amazing food, amazing service, highly recommend! Been here twice already and it hits the spot every time.

Yelp
Great food, great service, real authentic experience that you can't get at a major chain restaurant. Cornish Hen Kabab was fantastic
google avatar

Lina M.

Yelp
I really don't understand how this place has 4.5 stars. I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately I can't . It was really really bad food. I am born and raised in Iran so I know what a good Persian food is. That being said, we ordered to go on a Sunday night . We did that because every other good place I know was closed in this area. They took the order by phone after we had to call 4 times before they answered the phone. We ordered one beef barg and one beef koobideh. One torshi and one mast moosir. I didn't go to pick it up so I can't really judge about the price or the service. I can only say, the food was a disaster. Dry, chewy, the kababs were extremely over cooked, and didn't taste good either. The rice was cheap quality . The sides were ok. I Will not go back here . Sorry, not sorry
google avatar

Francis G.

Yelp
I was craving kabob after work and a lot of the places were closed and so I saw this place and I was like I want I want. I checked them out when I got their it's in a little quaint strip mall tucked away in the corner. I got there and they saw me and approached me I think it was the owner that did but he was like "for to go yes?" In my mind I wanted to eat there outside on their tables but he insisted I go take it home I was like alright relax. But I guess his friends are ok to hang out there and do as they please but not a paying customer? Anyways I got the shish kabob. I asked for extra rice on the side and was willing to pay but I think he felt bad for not letting me there and so gave me extra rice anyways. I got home and I see what I got. A few slices of lavash and one long shish kabob with a roasted tomato and a full bed of rice. First off I appreciated the extra rice, so thank you on that. Second the tomato could of been roasted a little longer but I enjoyed it either way. The lavash was ok but the crowning glory was the kabob. BRO so tender and juicy and completely vamped the plate up. Every bite was just succulent juicy beef followed by bread, rice and a tomato. I kind of wish there was a little of like hummus or pickled vegetables or even shirazi or even a little bit of mast moosir just so I could be a l little less dry but other than that the food was amazing. Unfortunately customer service needs to be worked on. I get it maybe you didn't want me to eat their cuz you were about to close and didn't want to clean but I see your friends can eat their and Not paying customer? Gotta change those standards my friend if you want to last.

Yelp
Service was ok but the food was very good. The kabob and rice and hummus and flat bread was really on point and tasty. Very authentic food and look forward to going back.

Yelp
Not many places where you can get good kabob this late. A great option for any time when we're hungry. The food was delicious and the service was very hospitable. I'll be back for sure.
google avatar

Aileen D.

Yelp
This review is strictly regarding his online order system. I placed an order which goes through GrubHub and I noticed that The restaurant never confirmed my order. I ended up talking to GrubHub on the phone and they said they tried calling the restaurant and they weren't even answering their phones. I tried calling them as well and no answer either. I don't understand how this person operates his business but I did end up going to the restaurant to see if my order was received and that there was a glitch with the system. Unfortunately that was not the case and the man that I spoke to who I think is the owner was so rude and said no no no throwing his hand in the air basically shooing me away. I'm like ok. Wow! I'm definitely not going to support this business now. Customer service goes a long away. Truly unfortunate.

Yelp
Drove over 1 hour to get some more of this place. Totally worth it. Great portions, friendly service, cozy atmosphere, TASTIEST rice, quality food for a great price. So so so good.

David L.

Yelp
Delicious kabobs with just the right balance: a juicy middle and a smoky char. All the appetizers are excellent, especially the eggplant dip.
