New Restaurant and Bar Openings: Hudson Valley and Catskills: Summer 2024 | Eater NY

"Started as a drive-thru in Kingston by Jeremy Robinson-Leon with collaborators Alison Roman and Amiel Stanek, Moonburger is a vegetarian burger spot with a very slender menu (regular or cheeseburger for under $8, fries, and a couple of Oatly-based shakes, with gluten-free buns available) that has expanded to New Paltz and a Poughkeepsie location attached to a Route 9 Mobil where cars lined up at opening; the owner frames the brand as simply making a good, affordable fast-food burger rather than foregrounding meatlessness, and seasonal specials have included strawberries blended with Belgian Lotus Biscoff cookies." - Emma Orlow

So atmosphere is a drive through. Go fast enough and you'll miss it. We had to do a U turn somewhere to come back. Service was OK. Reviews of it taking long is accurate. Ours took about 8 mins. No other cars in front or back of us. Service seemed nice enough but nothing over the top. We were waiting for the food and were reading all the low reviews Almost wanted to cancel the order but didn't want to be unethical in a drive through. Now the food. If you don't specify meat, I can see them giving you a veggie burger off the rip. It wasn't too bad to be honest but nothing to write home about. Spicy cheese fries was actually realllllly good. Should've gotten two orders of that. Over priced for small portions. Total was about $33 for 2 beef moon burgers, two drinks and one large spicy fries. "We came in hungry and left starving" seems like an applicable description of this experience.

I’ve been hankering for a burger for weeks then Moonburger opened a location in Poughkeepsie (!!) Tonight I finally gave in to my craving and the burger and fries were delicious. It’s truly hard to believe it’s not beef and I feel a tad less guilty for having a cheeseburger. I think there were fried onion rings in the burger which gave it a nice crunch. The fries were even better than the last time when I drove to New Paltz last summer to try Moonburger for the first time. They had a little bit of spice and were nicely crunchy. All in all, a nice way to treat myself to a burger with a little more environmental consciousness. Also, the service was great AND I can see that every person behind the counter was making the food with care and consideration. Next time I’ll be trying the strawberry shortcake milkshake (albeit made with oat milk). Worth a visit!

Our initial visit to Moon Burger left us with mixed feelings. Despite making the effort to drive an hour to get there, I should have went with my gut instincts and looked at the menu. My lovely 13 yr old child said mom if we look at the the menu your gonna ruin it. So I didn’t look so we could be surprised and boy was we surprised that they exclusively served Impossible Burgers, which was unexpected. The lack of a warm welcome and coherent service was noticeable, with staff seeming disorganized. We were left to navigate the menu on our own, resulting in us trying a bit of everything. The fries resembled Wendy’s fries just a little cold and while the burgers where impossible they were red on the inside. However, the addition of horseradish wasn't to our liking. Overall, unless you're specifically seeking vegan options, Moon Burger might not be your first choice.we made the best of it but honestly it ruined my appetite for the rest of the day. Meanwhile my 13 year old ate it all so we didn’t waste any food.

First thoughts, tastes like a homemade smash burger. Someone said, like shakenshack but diff bun and thinner pattie. IMO the meat does taste different from other 'fast food' joints. The meat tastes a little like grassfed. I am ok with the wait. 8 mins. I fugured they had to cook to order. Bae thinks it is really good. She likes it. Sodas came out good. Hot Fries were great. Spicy! Dip in cheese sauce. Atmoaphere unrated since I went drube thru. Overall. It was alright. Wouldnt go back. Im good.

Okay this is a real, honest review. Not a tourist review. This place is very mid. Very expensive for small portions and very mediocre taste. Might as well take a drive to Rhinebeck and get an actually good tasting burger that is larger and costs the same amount of money. There was a review that said the burger meat tasted burnt and I can confirm that it was, also the review that said the plain fries tasted like cheap frozen fries and was over salted was also correct. Also, I know they are smash burgers but the burger meat is just too thin for the price, it would be more worth it if it wasn’t just a single patty, but the double patty meat is an extra $3. The gluten free bun wasn’t stale for me but after letting my burger sit for 5 minutes it got very chewy. I gave 2 stars because the staff was very nice

I had high hopes, but I won't be back. When I pulled up to the drive thru I was greeted and told to wait. I waited about 2 minutes. I ordered the Classic Cheeseburger. It was good but a little too pricey for what it is. The price is about what you would pay in other burger chains, but the size was not equivalent. I expected something bigger, and when I got my bag it was quite light and the wrapped burger was small. Burger pics in most places are never like what you really get so I can't say much about that. I almost thought there were no condiments on it until I opened it up and then I saw the pickles, one slice of thin lettuce and a few French fried onions. My photo shows the top angle of the burger sticking out, not the thickness which I would say is about 1/3 inch. It was very tasty, but overall I was disappointed. I was hoping that Moonburger would be my go-to place for a vegan/vegetarian option after hearing about it in other locations.

The service at this location is terrible. The staff seemed very confused. Took me 25 minutes to get my order, and my friends' order got messed up twice, and took over 40 minutes to get their order They seemed really disorganized, and they seemed dirty too. They had their order assembly over where they dishout the fries (as seen in picture) Really wouldn't recommend going here...
