I’m an out-of-towner staying in the West Loop area. I came across this place while I was at a shop near by and I could smell the cooking from outside so I came back the next day with my group. They were so kind, playing gospel music on a Sunday morning, and the menu was accommodating for a non-pork eater. The food was great, customer service was amazing, and the atmosphere was top tier! Loved it. If I ever make it back to Chicago, this is my first stop!

Corned Beef Sandwich on rye, mustard with a pickle on the side from Moon’s Sandwich Shop; 16 S Western Ave. Open 7 am to 2 pm; it features breakfast, sandwiches, and burgers. I really treasure simple things done really well and this sandwich hit that mark. Packed full of corned beef, this sandwich was utterly satisfying. I definitely will be coming back to try other items on the menu.

The last two corn beef that I got from Moons were a big disappointment. The texture has changed. It’ll be a while before I try another moons corn beef

Hadn't been there in at least twenty five years. And I'll be damned if the corned beef sandwich didn't taste just as good as it did back then just as big but as you can expect the price that went up but it was all good and worth it

Don’t let the run down exterior fool you. I had driven by so many times assuming it must be closed or even closed down. But inside is a fast-paced crew of amazing people laying down some of the tastiest sandwiches and breakfast items you’re going to find. It’s like a speak easy for folks that want a no-nonsense plate of delicious food for a great price. The cheeseburger is fantastic. No frills. Just flavor. Get there.

The quality of the food here has changed drastically. We ordered a rib eye breakfast meal and got a piece of skirt steak and undercooked rice. The corn beef was nasty as well. They slice it thick and use the thinnest piece of white bread you can find. It was awful.

Firstly, this is a no-frills diner and at my visit did not allow any dine-in option though there is room for counter service. But besides that, their famous corn-beef sandwich rivals some of the best deli spots in Chicago. Dont overlook their breakfast sandwiches, their fried egg sandwich with bacon is really well made and they dont skimp on that bacon. This diner is not in your upscale neighborhood, but its really quite a hidden gem in the city. Just have to understand this long-standing diner was here well before the nearby gentrification by The United Center.

Go for the corned beef on rye! It's nothin fancy, but it's delicious! And a Chicago institution; 91 years! The folks that work there are nice and friendly, but it's a hole in the wall, so don't eat there, take it to go.

A MUST VISIT!!! The food was the most amazing breakfast I've ever had -- I'm back in Utah and I'm still craving it. Loved the service and ambiance of the place it really is fun and welcoming! Very warm customer service. Will for sure be stopping by again when I'm back in the area!

I have had Moon's before it's been some years. I had a corned beef sandwich. It was very good! Solid sandwich. And the service was good also. It was a great value also at the time. I'm definitely have to stop by in the near future. 8/10 Remember all reviews are subjective.

THE CORN BEEF SANDWICH IS RAW. IT TASTE LIKE SHIT I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT.please don't go the waiters are so bad and service is even worse they don't cook the food right. I would take down this business if I had to.

After much anticipation, my research on some of Chicago's oldest establishments has been paying off. As someone who seeks out classic hidden hole in the wall gems, this one did not disappoint. For a sandwich shop that has been in business for nearly 90 years they are doing something right. Simple but fresh is their strategy. Classic sandwiches made fresh to order right in front of you, this little shop is not just for the neighborhood but a destination location. Instead of a side of fries, you'll have the option of chips or freshly made potatoes on the griddle, corned beef sliced to order with little to no fat warmly sandwiched in between delicately soft rye bread, and the cheeseburger sitting beautifully in white paper was absolutely fantastic. Took the menu to go as I will most definitely be back!

I was super excited to try this place after reading all of the great reviews, but unfortunately didn't have the same experience. I ordered the corned beef sandwich with rye bread. On first look, the sandwich is PACKED with meat and looks amazing. Inside the sandwich, there's also lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and mustard. On first bite, I was very disappointed by how dry and bland the corned beef was. It was not terrible, but not enjoyable.

I don't know if it's my tastebuds or has anyone noticed that the corned beef is not the same. But I'll return before I give the final report. And have a few more people taste test it.... STAY TUNED

The corn beef is delicious I had one on 9-17-22 it was $12.50 a co-worker and I ordered delivery last week, $38.00 delivery is $5 the beef is now $16 .50 wow what a big hike !!

Thankfully found street parking in this busy area so I could stop by Moon's for their famous Corned Beef Sandwich before heading to my work event. Love how iconic this shop has become in the neigborhood, and it's clear how many regulars they're always getting. I thought the sandwich was alright. Kinda pricey and dry. Asked for rye bread and got white instead. It was right around the corner from my destination, so I'm glad I got to witness the vibes of the customers and hardworking staff regardless!

I wish I took a picture because when I say these sandwiches are loaded, they are LOADED! I got a corned beef sandwich and it's one of the best I've ever had. If you're in IL and looking for a good corned beef sandwich, this place is worth the drive! I also tried the French toast and it was really good too.

This place once had great corned beef, now the corned is as dry as rump roast and almost the cost of a steak! Not worth the time and definitely not the money! Tasty pork chop sandwich for breakfast in this old school Chicago spot. Friendly safe service in a clean environment. Friend had the corned beef and said it was also excellent.

First time eating here, quick delivery service. I was told 45mins to and hour it came in 30mins. The corn beef was good, nicely loaded with lots of meat, and filling. The potatoes on the other hand were SO good. Little too expensive for my taste, heard a lot about this place; glad I tried it. Tip: Iceberg lettuce isn't real. It's white, not green, such a waste of time. That's all.

I'm a sandwich guy but not necessarily a corned beef sandwich guy, never the less, this is the best corned beef sandwich I have ever eaten. Loved the corned beef sandwich with just the right ratio of meat to Ryebread. But $14 for sandwich and chips is a bit steep. Who serves CB sand with lettuce and tomato? Should have known to hold the lettuce...quite sure I got a stomach bacteria...had the runs all afternoon. BETTER GET THEIR SANITARY ACT TOGETHER!

I visited Moon's twice so far. I like Moon's. Their corn beef sandwich is to die for. They are not shy with the meat, very tasty, and you can even make more sandwiches with it! That is how much meat they give you! They do the same for the roast beef sandwich, too, but the roast beef sandwich is only served on Mon., Wed., and Fri. Two very good sandwiches. I would come back for it. The turkey looks good, too. They serve a good breakfast here, too, all day long! The Jumpball is incredible! I got the bacon one without egg and it is very good. They cook the best potatoes in the city! The bacon is not bad either. I would come back for the Jumpball and potatoes. They fooled me on my second visit. I thought since they gave me so much meat on the roast and corned beef sandwiches that they would do they same for the other sandwiches as well. Boy, I wrong. So stay away from the grill cheese, BLT and meatloaf sandwiches. Just not worth buying because there is not enough meat on any of the sandwiches. The meatloaf is tasty, but only two slices of it are on the sandwiches. It is a hole in the wall. Whatever year it was built was the last time they made any changes to it. In the heart of the urban west side. So be prepared for weed smoke, cigarette smoke, masks not all the way on the face, somebody high or drunk on the street, hearing sirens all over, somebody trying to sell you something, employees fighting among themselves, a lot of cussing over current events, loud talking, waiting for your food 30 mins after you order it and accessing everything I just mentioned during those 30 mins.

I've been looking forward to eating here for a while and was not disappointed. The ladies at the register were friendly and helpful......I even asked them to run my credit card again just to give a tip. Chicken noodle soup was tasty and corned beef sandwich was warm and filling. It looks busy, though most people were waiting for their food. Ample counter seating and not rushed at all.......great place for people watching too. I plan to return soon to try out one of the dinners; with a lemonade of course!

No way there are charging the prices there are when their restaurant is in the heart of the ghetto and you are charging prices as if you are downtown Chicago or high end area of the city . It's a old worn down mom and pop restaurant and there are expensive considering the portions are small . The omelet had only 2 eggs . Average restaurant has 3 -4 eggs in a omelet and they told me a dollar for an extra egg. Take you money and go somewhere where there area is better and the condition of the restaurant is in a better condition

Ordered ahead on Grubhub and didn't start my order til I came to the pickup time. I wanna assume it's due to being under staffed and having other orders to deal with. There is a sign that says "no mask no service" and they don't enforce it consistently. One worker asks a man trying to come in to stay outside. He didn't have his mask on. He just had it in his hand. Later he persists and just walks in and no one behind the counter says anything, despite the sign posted. Social distancing and masks aren't enforced. This is concerning. Customer safety isn't prioritized as much as it needs to be here. They seem to just give up after being pushed around a bit. It doesn't take much to break the rules here. Only one man was really enforcing it but he wasn't always around to be at the entrance. This hard working man is spread thin and it's unfortunate that his coworkers don't consistently enforce the expectations like he does. It's no wonder some customers will follow the expectations and some won't. Consistency is key. The cashier is definitely aware of what is going on but just continues his work. "You are why people don't want to give business to restaurants. All you care about are appearances and just care about making money regardless of who's safety is compromised. Shame on you!". I even clearly filled out the form on Grubhub and asked for white toast and they gave me raisin toast. This place isn't known for attention to detail when it comes to technology. My order was definitely made in a rush. I'll wait when you actually know how to enforce masks and social distancing constantly and actually higher order accuracy.

Classic spot , went here a few time food was good . I like the atmosphere its like going back in time . Even when I was a kid in the 60's there where still places like this .Its just nice. Man , I have been here for a while !

I found this place perusing GrubHub's site. I read the reviews while waiting for my order to arrive. Well...There is a lot of truth about the corn beef sandwich I ordered. It is meaty. But I see why they put tomatoes and lettuce on their corn beef sandwiches. If you like a lean dry corn beef sandwich with zero fat, then you'll love their corn beef sandwiches. It's a NO for me. I'd rather go to Manny's.

I have tried so many sandwiches before, yet I have found the interesting one here. So, I tried eating here and I am expecting that, it's like the other restaurant, with no significant or unusual things. But to my surprise, when I tried their food, Wow! It was one of a kind. The corned beef sandwich is superb, very tasty with lots of meat and filling. The tuna salad sandwich is also awesome. The place is very clean and follow health standards. I am definitely recommending Moon's Sandwich Shop to my friends and family near here. I hope I can go back to this place sooner. I can't wait! Thank you very much for the excellent service.

I've always wanted to try this spot in the hood. It's a 85 yr old institution. Serving up piles of corned beef and a solid breakfast. If you're extra hungry get the Jump ball, it's shareable too. Great grits and you won't leave dissatisfied. Ask for Jim if you're not happy. Ask for Baybay if you are in the mood for some laughs, just don't call her Bebe! They've been on the block since 1933 and in this building since 1947. Ask to see the picture from 1968, when the National Guard were out front, protecting them from the riots.

Love it!! Breakfast, lunch homemade in a sense close to my new job. Moon's, the only white guy with a very down to earth black staff that has smiles as big as life and cooking like they are home in their own kitchens. I first ordered a breakfast a sandwich, nothing major perhaps a week ago. Fried egg, American cheese, and white toast, jelly on the side. It was quick, clean and to the point. Weeeeelllll today I went back for the corned beef. It's been hard to find corned beef that is phenomenal here. I hate Manny's not just for their food but their customer service. Corned beef is typically trash and NYC has always been the top of the corned beef food chain, until I came here. Today for lunch I ordered the corned been on a really amazing French roll, added Swiss cheese and mustard and extra pickles on the side. BOY, was it yummy . Do ya self a fave. If you want culture, entertainment and a bit of down home stop ins while out this way and are a corned beef consumer like me or just a good breakfast...think Waffle House without the waffle. Check this spot out. It will now be my cheat week meal perhaps but a place I could also propose and bring my patents!! Lol. Cheers!

Went here Saurday at 6:30 in the morning w a friend dating from high school with his son. BUSY- BUSY-BUSY. The place is incredible. So many take out orders but we sat and at ours. Corn beef and a sausage jumpball and I had the corn beef sandwich and added bacon. NIce dill pickles too. Food is hot, tasty and filling and I can't get enough but the scale has! Been a couple years but I will return VERY soon. BTW: the patty melt rules over there.

Everything about this gigantic corned beef sandwich was amazing. The corned beef was flavorful and tender. The pickles were fresh and crispy and the rye bread complimented the sandwich so well. I do not normally care for rye bread but wanted to order the sandwich the way they make it. There rye bread meshed with the sandwich really well and I did not get overwhelmed by the flavor in the bread. They also give you a small plate of corned beef for free when you arrive. The restaurant itself was very buisy. It was a bit shabby but dont let that scare you the food is worth staying. The customer service was great and I found the employees and even customers around me to be very friendly.

I dont come here that much Man but those hash browns and the eggs are off the charts good. You wont bring your nutritionist here but you yourself will have a good time with these fried sandwiches

A bit more than a little dissatisfied and disappointed in the fact that I ordered a eggs and steak, ribeye steak breakfast and the only two options they had was chop steak and ribeye steak but clearly this was neither of the two instead I received a skirt steak with my breakfast. every other part of my order was correct bacon and cheese in my eggs, cheese on my potatoes, but either they ran out of ribeye or they're trying to get over on people; because the time before that there was no steak at all. so over all the decision is yours to make whether or not you want to purchase food from there. Also which actually is pretty much of a good thing that there's no seasoning at all on their food so you have to season your own food to taste

This is, hand's down, the best sandwich shop in the area, perhaps all of Chicago. They open for breakfast before anyone else and their "Corned Beef Jumpball", made with grilled onions, cubed potatoes, and corned beef, is unbelievable. I actually drive to Chicago to get this Jumpball. You have to ask for it because it is not on the menu, but their regular Jumpball is just as good and made with Italian Sausage, 3 eggs, cheese, onions and potatoes. BJ runs it and he was a Chicago Cop who walked this beat before picking up Moon's, which has continually been in business since 1933. The people watching is as good as the sandwiches, especially in the morning when you get a lot of night workers coming off their shifts. The place is a mixing pot of cultures and values and races all brought together at the counter of Moon's to share a sandwich. I love this place!

Chili Mac is just a bowl of wet noodles with meat on top. No cheese, not even an option to add cheese. "Needs to be asked for" according to GrubHub (who called them). Absolutely disgusting. Corn beef is pure rubber. I can barely bite through it, super gross. Tastes like salty, grocery store deli meat. On top of all that, they won't answer any calls. Total waste of time and money ordering here.

Wow, there is an ART to making breakfast and it's really something to behold when you take a peek into Moon's-- a restaurant with an open kitchen so you can basically watch the food being made in front of you. I'm obsessed with a good breakfast sandwich and this place satisfies. I do recommend ordering ahead as it seems to be an extremely popular neighborhood staple.

Might be a good place. Can't tell because at the end of my cab ride there I found they were closed today and tomorrow. This is the second time this happened for me at this restaurant. It is the last, too.

I ordered breakfast from Moon's one morning when I was working from home. I pass it daily on my commute and it always seemed to be packed. My curiosity reached its limit that morning and i had to have it! I ordered the jumpball. The portion was huge! It can easily feed two people or one very hungry person. The packaging was a bit flimsy but I didn't expect more. This place is pretty old school and 'efficient'. The meal itself was not my favorite. It had this overwhelming smoky flavor. The kind you get when you grill isn't clean or your grease is dark. This made it harder for me to enjoy my meal. I normally like the smoky flavor but not on my breakfast. I haven't completely written off Moon's They are known for their sandwiches (corned beef especially). Next time I will try their staples.

Corn Beef ...All I can say is the corn beef sandwich has been a fav for years. It's still my fav...I try to stop by on my way to work in the mornings. They op pretty early in the morning. There for they are closed about 3p.m. They are pretty generous with the corn beef, so it's really filling. I'll say they can use a better grade of bread but they don't so I often request to have my bread toasted.

Just tried Moon's for the first time today for breakfast. The place is busy and the menu is expansive. Despite not calling ahead we only had to wait about 5 minutes for the egg bacon cheese sandwich which was amazing. It's such a breath of fresh air not to have sandwich eggs be scrambled! Next time I will come for a sit down experience and get a full platter breakfast or omelette which sound amazing. Only downside is parking in the area can be tricky and they just raised prices.

I've heard that Moon's Sandwich Shop has one of the best corned beef sandwiches around, so I stopped in for lunch to try one for myself. Everything about this placed screams old-school, from the weathered brick and glass block exterior, to the from-a-time-capsule counter and stools. On arrival and sitting down at the counter, I was asked what I'd like (without the benefit of a menu, unfortunately). I gave my order, and within four or five minutes, had my sandwich. The beef was piled fairly high (though not to a comical level like at Manny's), and was flavorful and tender. The bread, unfortunately, was pretty pedestrian, and not on the same level as the filling. When I was done, the counterman gave me the total for my bill in an efficient, businesslike manner, and I was on my way. Check it out if you'd like a lunch that is a little short on pleasantries, but big on flavor and a sense of the real Chicago.

Great eggs is the least I can say good about my order today. Terrible service. Phone lines stayed busy. I got my order 30 minutes later than suggested. My breakfast was cold but my corned beef sandwich was warm. I realized I accidentally chose sausage instead of bacon. This was my mistake on my part I'll admit and one of the worst sausage patties I've ever tasted in my life. It was too thick and chunky and under cooked with no flavoring. Not sure if it's even real meat. I make better French toast using loafed bread,eggs,cinnamon and sugar at home. $8.90 wasted poorly. I prefer cold corned beef sand which maybe they thought I meant cold breakfast. Fairly disappointed because I've ordered Moons before and was pleased. Maybe it was a busy morning judging by the backed up phone lines. Still no excuse for $25 on lunch,breakfast and tip for this crap.

I've heard about this place and the corned beef sandwiches from people like my dad. It's got weird hours, but I decided to give out a try when I saw it was open. *Disclaimer* (Don't order the corn beef dinner, it is essentially a "build it yourself" plate that they give you.) I got the dinner, tuna salad sandwich and a british burger for later. The burger was good, the tuna salad pretty meh even though they pack it pretty thick. Right off the bat the dinner disappointed me, the sandwich wasn't premade, everything was put into a standard lunch tray with two pieces of bread on top. The gravy from the potatoes got in EVERYTHING! The beef was cooked perfectly, but everything else in the dinner (corn, salad, potatoes) were average. Overall I'd try this place again if I can get the actual sandwich.

This place has comfort food and damn good comfort food at that. I've been once for breakfast and it was the largest, richest, unhealthiest breakfast I've ever had, but it was DELICIOUS! My fiancé and I ordered the Jumpball All Day and split it and it was more than enough food to fill up both of us. With Italian sausage, eggs, cheese, onions & potatoes, it's every desirable breakfast item all in one! This place is small, crowded, loud and bustling (Hint: Not an ideal place for an intimate first date). Our meal took about 40 minutes to come out because it was so crowded on a Sunday morning, but it was worth it!

Had the corned beef sandwich today was not of the same quality that I remember from moons. Sad will not go her again.

I moved to Chicago in 2011 and this was the closest place to my job. I ate breakfast here at 6am nearly everyday for 2 years. My memories of Chicago will always start at Moon's.

My boyfriend bought me a corn beef sandwich from Moon's today and it was horrible. The meat was bland and taste like rubber. The texture and the quality of the corn beef is a whole different story! I have had corn beef from other establishments and at home but I have never experience a corn beef sandwich that taste so awful!!!

BEWARE!! Do not come here If you are on YOUR lunch break!! The food here is just so ridiculously outstandingly scrumdidiliociously delicious that it will make you not go back to work and straight to the back seat of your car or office for an immediate violent nap!!! I took 3 of my coworkers here and we had a beautiful yawing symphony on the drive back to work. So there I was! We walked in and instantly I fell in love with the place. The inside is just perfect. It's small, limited and only counter seating with so much movement going on. The place is packed and all you hear is "Give 2 Rye 1 White!!!". I counted at least 9 employees and who knows how many more they have in the back. Corned Beef is just constantly being sliced in front of you to fill their endless orders. When we sat down the waitress was just so nice and happy. She was one of those that could brighten up your mood and get along with anyone. We placed out order and then the owner came by because we were in uniform and went up to our biggest guy and said "You're a big fella, lets arm wrestle". We all have the Famous Moon Corned Beef sandwich and it was so delicious. There was a behemoth mound of corned beef in between the buns!!! It was very fresh, rich and moist. It was far from dry (I hate those). The rye bread was not over powering in taste and soft as well. I also had a side of hashbrowns with my sandwich. They potatoes hit the spot! This all hit the spot! I was giggling like a little school girl. Extremely filling and very inexpensive. Food and Service was A++ I will definitely go back there and try the Jumpball! It was so mouthwatering but I could not do it. Door wasn't wide enough for me to get on the ground and roll back to my car.
