NY-style slices, pastas, sliders, spirits, and unique craft beer

"This downtown Detroit pizzeria serves New York-style slices, Nonna’s meatballs (available as an appetizer or entree with spaghetti), some impressive pasta entrees, and big salads. Specialty pizzas like the Uptown & the Bronx with pepperoni, NYC pizza sauce, parsley, mozzarella, pecorino, and shaved parmesan offer a satisfying slice, but don’t sleep on the rest of the menu, such as Nonna’s meatballs made with a beef and pork blend available as an appetizer or with spaghetti. Be sure to check out the adjoining bar, Side Hustle Lounge, featuring an Italian and Latin-influenced menu of flatbreads, empanadas, charcuterie boards, and more, in addition to beer, cocktails, wines, and bourbon and tequila lists. Online ordering is available." - Serena Maria Daniels

"Mootz Pizzeria + Bar has collaborated with Eastern Market Brewing Co. to launched the limited edition Moot Beer — a tangerine basil wheat ale with notes of honey and hints of the pizzeria’s dough dough, which was brewed right into the beer, for $8 per glass. The downtown eatery will also open at 10 a.m., serve breakfast pizza, cocktails to go, and will give away free koozies while supplies last." - Serena Maria Daniels

"After receiving a small donation of outdoor propane heaters from their landlord, the restaurant converted a previously low-priority plan into a thriving outdoor dining area that has been described as a game changer — the patio has been consistently full since opening. The outdoor space expanded capacity by roughly 25 percent (adding 26 seats to 99 indoor seats) and has been continually improved with speakers, a rain-blocking awning, fans, and dozens of planter baskets that add color and ambiance. Staff credit the patio with helping maintain service and guest comfort through COVID waves, and local landlord support and streamlined city permitting made the expansion possible." - Mickey Lyons
