More Home Slice - Review - South Congress - Austin - The Infatuation

"Home Slice is one of the fastest and easiest late night options in Austin. Their to-go window on South Congress stays open late with slices that are just as good at 2am as they are at 2pm (or maybe even a little better). Don’t question your decision to stop by on your way home from a bar hopping—it’s the same choice you’d make in broad daylight, except maybe you’d reconsider how loud you’re talking." - Adele Hazan

Been to new york, tried the pizza, this was the same. The staff is friendly, the service is fast and best of all the pizza taste great. If you’re looking for a quick bite but dont want your traditional fast food. This your spot.

My good friend Dave invited me to check this place out. The staff was awesome and super nice! Got a slice of pepperoni and jalapeño’s and it was delicious. I will be back my next trip here! Highly recommended!

The last thing I expected as a New Yorker was to land in Austin, Texas and have slices that taste like home. Pizza was excellent and reminded me of NYC but the service was excellent. The staff is attentive and happy that you are there.

David Yang

SerpAPI
The pizza was delicious, the crust was crunchy and thin, and the pepperoni wasn’t overly greasy. The margherita pizza isn’t traditional and not what I was used to, but still tasted good.

Mikhail Mikhailau

SerpAPI
Decent pizza, good thin crust. Review by a spoiled former New Yorker ;)

When I'm looking for a slice or two of good authentic new York style pizza, I go to Austin Texas!!!! This place was great find and the pizza is so spot on to the reputation I will stop in whenever I am in town. It's part of an experience. Dine in or carryout available. Parking is limited but adequate for a quick pick up. The entire crew in that place seems to enjoy what they do. It shows in the consistency of the product. It is the same everytime. The real Sicilian pizzas are shockingly good a ith flavors "fromma the olde country🤌" great job guys. With a million pizza joints in that town, I'll pass them all for a HOMe SLICE! Love it!!!!

Home slice is easily the best pizza in Austin! When we know soco is going to be crowded (weekends or holiday) it's great to be able to order a pizza and easily pick it up without going into the main restaurant. I recommend pepperoni or the fried eggplant topping. The white pizza can be super garlic but has great flavors. Service here is fast and friendly.

Best pizza in Austin? Probably so! Greasy:tasty ratio is on point. Friendly service.

Yelp
I visited More Home Slice Pizza for their NY-style pizza, which is their takeout option as opposed to the sit-down Home Slice store next door. They have the available slices of the day written on a chalkboard before you order, but there's also a full menu if you're looking for something specific. I believe they offer both outdoor and indoor seating, but I was just picking up to go. I ended up with a pepperoni slice and a margherita slice. I'm not an expert on NY-style pizza, but I really enjoyed both! It's hard for pizza to let you down, and this definitely hit the spot. Each slice was somewhere between $4-$5, which I thought was very affordable and a great value for the quality. They have some free parking on the side, but since it's intended for takeout customers, the free parking time limit isn't very long. Keep that in mind if you're planning to stay longer. If you're in the area and craving pizza, More Home Slice is a solid choice for a quick and delicious meal!

Yelp
I think i like the Central Austin location better, but I have to say Home Slice is always really solid pizza - nice and crispy..I think the plain or pepperoni better than the other stuff. I think it's expensive for what it is, but that's the Austin premium pizza price for ya! I will keep going to Home Slice though because it def. hits the spot when you're in the mood for NY or NJ style pizza. Just know it's not quite going to be the same...which is fine..because we are in the Lone Star State!
google avatar

Brandy W.

Yelp
Solid slice and quick bite when you're hungry walking. The smells hit and it's over. $4.25 for a cheese slice so we took 4 to tide us over. The whole fam agreed it was an A.
google avatar

Saniya S.

Yelp
I've heard of Home Slice for being the best NY style pizza in Austin and being from NJ, I wanted to try it out and see what the hype was all about. Honestly, I was really disappointed. I ordered a Margherita slice and garlic knots. The pizza came out pretty quickly after we ordered which was nice. I was pretty surprised with the what my slice looked like. The pizza barely had any sauce or cheese, it was mainly just the pizza base. I was expecting to get a slice with fresh mozzarella or at least more cheese than what I got. The garlic knots were also not that great, they were pretty dry and had garlic powder on the outside, but not enough for it to taste like a garlic knot.
google avatar

Riley H.

Yelp
Pizza was mid. All crust, toppings did not shine. Our service was so slow. We got a 22% gratuity added for our group of 8 ... usually it's 18-20%. We sat outside. The heaters were nice.

Yelp
Ok... man how have I never reviewed this place? Oh, Home Slice.... we have known each other maybe more than a decade? You've known me since before I had kids walking Congress and now to almost every weekend seeing both my kids as they grow up. You took my family of 20 in the day after my wedding when we were hungry. You've hosted many of my kiddos birthday parties at your place and always show up for birthday parties at the park. We know we can always just stop by when we're in the hood and my children have come to know you as someone we can always count on. But for real though, the star of this review is their Italian sub. I can't believe I never knew about this until a few months ago. The bread is a perfect shell crunch housing all the goodness inside. It doesn't overpower the sandwich at all and allows all the other ingredients inside to express themselves. The super finely shredded lettuce is genius making for easy tear off bites. For those of you who don't think you even like Italian subs, I was one of you. You're welcome.

Yelp
I am not much of a pizza person but my friend and I needed to break a bill and ended up here somehow. They were willing to provide us with change but the smell caught us by surprise so we ended up buying 3 slices of pizza. We got a slice of Vegan Cheese which was full of veggies, a slice of White Pizza with Spinach and a slice of Pepperoni. We sat on picnic tables outside with cute umbrellas and it was the best for people watching. Literally all walks of life were coming and going and sometimes that is the best sign that the food is good.
google avatar

Cora S.

Yelp
Get the sandwich and share it with a friend it is awesome!!! Good outdoor dining space as well. Photo shows what my half looks like

Yelp
More Home Slice Pizza is the best hands down. I either hit the place first to eat or take home pizza and the end. There is always a mob scene here either in line to order or eating inside or outside. My trick to speed things up is to order by the slice where not sure more expensive to just order a whole pizza, but I hate waiting especially if I am hungry. For the pizza itself it is huge with big slices. I usually order a variety like pepperoni, cheese, sausage, and spinach. The pizza overall taste wonderful and has great flavor. The crust is crunchy but will sag since the slices are so large and the toppings weigh it down. I notice people drool when walking by. Lastly More Home Slice Pizza is an art gallery where it you walk atone this building your will see artwork on the walls giving this place some Austin cultural experience.

Yelp
Food. Pizza was okay but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy another Service. Service was average Ambiance nothing special. I did not appreciate the 22% tip that was added to my bill. At the most I would have left a 15% tip.

Chase F.

Yelp
Good pizza better service! Go for the original pepperoni. Not too greasy crust is just right
google avatar

Susan M.

Yelp
'Looks like traditional NYC street pizza but sadly it is NOT!! Had a slice of white spinach. Ricotta dollop was the best part. The rest was "meh" w/a crispy crust reminiscent of frozen pizzas. Still, as my favorite food group, a mediocre pizza still hits the spot. None of the displayed pizzas piqued my pallet, so it's doubtful that I will return.
google avatar

Chelsea L.

Yelp
Home Slice is delicious! Not my first time going but first time reviewing! It is VERY good. It was not too long of a wait at More Home Slice (right next door to Home Slice). There are some seats available and we got a whole pizza, with half Margherita and half white pie + spinach I like thinner crusts (think flatbreads) to get more of the flavorful toppings and home slice pizza is exactly that. Both are great, but Margherita is the favorite
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
My husband was born in New York and grew up in New Jersey. He says this is the closest to NY pizza he's had in the area. It IS excellent for Texas pizza. I like this location next to the original. Easy to get quick service. And fun picnic tables with umbrellas outside.
google avatar

Destini W.

Yelp
Still the best pizza in Austin. I would even say this is better than their original location. It's surrounded by many shops so you can stop and explore south congress. The service is good and they get the food out fast despite how busy they are. I would recommend trying their vegan slice if you wanna be healthy.
google avatar

Ali G.

Yelp
Lots of seating and friendly staff. Worth the wait for a delish slice (or whole) pizza.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
I've reviewed them before, but I think it was on another account which has since been deleted. I've been eating here pretty consistently since 2011. I like that they do slices, and I don't have to get a whole pizza. More places should do this. Today I had the white pie with spinach and a side of marinara. I always grab a handful of Smarties on my way out the door. Friendly staff, and good pizza. What's not to like? Go on Monday and Thursday for Sicilian-style pizza. Say hi to Josh while you're there.
google avatar

Jenny X.

Yelp
This is like the 99cent pizza of Austin! Good: - Super quick service - Amazing white pie and marghertia pizza here, good portion sizes and so cheap! Not too greasy Bad: - Super casual, slightly dirty tables outside I was recommended this place as a staple of Austin so I definitely recommend!

Yelp
Out walking the Congress strip when hunger hit, this was fast, huge and tasted great. nice little stop, the restaurant is right next store if you are looking for a little more ambience

Yelp
Home Slice Pizza is a dog friendly iconic landmark pizzeria on S. Congress, Austin, TX. It serves New York style pizza made with fresh dough and ingredients. Oven baked to order. The service is relatively quick considering the long line of people waiting for takeouts. You will probably be able to find a table right before they deliver the pizza to your table. It's a casual dining environment with a mix of locals and tourists. It has four locations at the time of this post, 3 in Austin and 1 in Houston. Juicy, flavorful, and nice textures. You won't regret it. Please just remember that an 18" large pizza feeds 3-4 adults or 5-6 children. We order 1 large pizza per person because we wished for leftovers to take home. Have fun and enjoy! Yelp
love this place. my favorite menu item is not pizza, it's the incredible sandwiches. My go to is the italian and occasionally the meatball. Fresh ingredients on a toasted freshly made hoagie. The only complaint is it can be tough to find parking, but always still worth the visit.
google avatar

Riya S.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing pizzas - be careful because they can be really big! Parking is a little tough but the street outside is worth walking through especially if you're visiting.
google avatar

Jiwon K.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch before our flight home and the pizza was amazing! I was limited to the slices that they had available, but the veggie pizza was sooo good and so was the house salad I got. The portion was bigger than I had expected. My friend got the Sicilian pepperoni and wasn't that impressed with it, so I would stick to the regular slices. The spot will be a must visit for me if I'm ever back in Austin.

Yelp
Was staying at the South Congress Hotel & wanted to grab a quick bite. Stumbled upon this gem and it smelled amazing so I had to try a slice! It was everything I needed and more. A simple & good slice of pizza is sometimes all that is needed.
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
Friendly staff, quick service, pizza delicious. I didn't expect much for pizza but it pretty good.
google avatar

Parker N.

Yelp
What can I say?! This is simply the best cold cut Italian sub there is. Plain and simple. I realize you might not understand the boldness of this statement - but lemme tell you ... The Italian sub from HomeSlice is SLEPT ON !!! Skip the decent pizza you can find anywhere in the northeast- and change your perception of what an Italian sub could
google avatar

Lloyd C.

Yelp
We stumbled across this place because we were driving on S. Congress Ave and saw a huge line of people standing in front of this restaurant. The staff are super nice and friendly!!! We got a slice of the White Pie with Spinach and a slice of the Margherita. Wow! Reminiscent of the pizza we got in New York. It was so delicious, we ended up getting two slices the next day!!! We got a slice of the Pepperoni, Sicilian cheese slice, and Tiramisu. Everything was delicious. You can't go wrong with whatever you order.
google avatar

Victoria W.

Yelp
Delicious! The slices of pizza are only $4.50 and definitely hefty enough for 1 person. We got the margherita pizza per the recommendation of the staff at the front window, and it was absolutely delicious! I'm not usually a fan of margherita pizza but this one was super flavorful and delicious. The best part was the garlicky crispy thin crust, which to me almost tasted like I was eating a delicious garlic bread/pizza combo. The service was also super friendly. My friend and I shared 1 slice and the server offered to help us cut it in half and got us an extra plate without us even asking.
google avatar

Keanna M.

Yelp
My expectations of NY style pizza are pretty low. I thought that I just didn't enjoy this style of pizza. BUT! I was walking around by myself and just wanted a quick snack, so decided on this pizza. There were quite a few people around so I figured it should be decent pizza. They have an indoor ordering space, but also an order window that you can walk up to. I ordered a slice of pepperoni and a HUGE Rice Krispie treat. After tasting this NY style slice, I'm questioning everything about NY style pizza! This is definitely the best NY style slice I've had, and now I'm thinking that I just had crappier versions of it in the past. I'm from the west coast, so that can definitely be the case. Anyway, Home Slice has changed my mind on NY Style pizza, and I can't wait to try more.
google avatar

Erin G.

Yelp
Pizza by the slice - tried pepperoni, margarita and the white spinach pizza. White spinach was the best but all were tasty. Wish it was a faster though- line and wait for food takes a while
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
Take out version of the Home Slice restaurant next door. Private parking lot. Order inside or at the outside window. They have limited inside seating and a patio outside. They serve the same stuff as the restaurant. I thought their service would be faster here but their turn around time after ordering took awhile. Pepperoni & Cherry Peppers - $4.75 - I loved the heat from the cherry peppers. This combination was very good. The pizza itself was similar to mall pizza but a little bit better.
google avatar

Nina V.

Yelp
I love the concept of a take-out/to-go counter for a popular pizza joint. This allows people who want a slice or 2 to get their food quickly and not have to go through the sit down process. I got the margherita pizza and it was delicious!! When the crust is good, which it was, you know it's a good pizza. Only bad thing is that the wait for this to-go business was still a long time. I would still recommend - maybe walk down Congress and explore a bit, then come back for your pizza.
google avatar

Liz N.

Yelp
Love this place so much!!! I always try to make a pit stop when I'm in Austin. Introduced the hubby to home slice since he's never had it before so we went with a slice of classic pepperoni. Good pizza, no frills, and easy ordering process. One of my Austin favs!
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Yum! Quick and convenient! Glad there's two options for Home Slice. We love home slice but the option for a quick bite and by the slices is great. We stopped by this week to grab lunch with our newborn and weren't ready to go on a whole sit down service adventure. But we really wanted home slice so this was perfect. The Sicilian options were really good this week too! Of course the slices were delicious hot and fresh. We got our garlic knots at the window and the pizza slices came out very quickly afterwards. There was plenty of seating outside and some inside as well. They had the misters going outside and there was a nice breeze as well as shaded tables. We enjoyed the food and the sun. They had parking available in between the two shops for 15 minute to go as well as the standard SoCo back in parking.
google avatar

Rebecca H.

Yelp
More home slice was the place that convinced me how much I love Austin and the food here. This pizza is a slice of heaven. When you first take a bite, it has that perfect crunch combined with the saltiness of the cheese, the tanginess of a little bit of tomatoes, and the garlic kick. Absolute heaven in a bite! Great for a meal where you're looking for pure deliciousness with a low key casualness.
google avatar

Mahsa S.

Yelp
Delicious pizza sold by the slice! A bit pricey for a slice but definitely worth it. Be sure to stop by if you're in south Congress
google avatar

Etienne H.

Yelp
You can NEVER go wrong with Home slice. Pizza is amazing and is an Austin favorite. Parking is right but a few spaces may be available between Home Slice restaurant and More Home Slice
google avatar

Kimai H.

Yelp
I found an authentic NY slice in the middle of downtown Austin, TX! I visited on a Sunday afternoon after seeing this restaurant featured on Diners, Drive-Ins & Drives. The young female cashier came off not friendly at all- more cocky and indifferent and definitely no smiles. I ordered a slice of pepperoni, a slice of Margherita, and an order of garlic knots- all to-go. The pizza slices were not at all the size of what you'd get in NY, but not a bust. The slices were super flavorful- the pepperoni was nice, crispy and salty like I remembered having back in NY. Even the cheese blend was just right. I enjoyed the freshness of the tomatoes and basil on my Margarita slice. The crust was perfectly light and crispy and chewy. Pizza sauce was bland. The garlic knots were perfect in size... but for some unknown reason, the were put in the bag LOOSE. Fours knots, covered in garlic and butter, loose at the bottom of a PAPER bag. They were not wrapped in foil at the very least, or even a put in a small box. What do you think this lack of wrapping did to the bag they came in? Check the pictures. Half the garlic along with big spots of oil or butter covered the bottom. I feel like this was a total waste of my money even though they tasted alright. This was definitely a poor decision. Overall, the pizza was just: good. Order the garlic knots "with wrapping" (because apparently you need to?) Work on that customer service guys.

Yelp
MORE Home Slice is an extension of the Original location next door. But find quality NY pie slices in Austin at either location! Stopped in for a quick snack, ordered a slice per person with a cold brew, excellent choice! A solid 3.5+ rating overall, pizza slices served hot out of the oven with nice crispy crust, plus good selection of local or national beers. Slices are ~$4 each, so expect to pay ~$8-10 for a meal. Today we ordered the Sausage and roasted Garlic slices, Pepperoni and white pie with Spinach-n-Shrooms. I would've liked to just try their Cheese slice or Sicilian style, but it'll give me a reason to return to Home Slice. Each slice was tasty, I would've liked a little more cheese quantity on the pepperoni slice, but it was still very good. Everyone enjoyed their selected slice, so don't think you can go wrong with any of their offerings here. Service was friendly and atmosphere simple and casual. Stop in for a quick bite if you want a fast meal or order a pie to go! Enjoy!!
google avatar

Rick L.

Yelp
Quick and easy. Slices $4.50 Super friendly staff! Cheese pizza was good. Margarita Pizza had lots of garlic on it and not gthe fresh mozzarella we're used to. Looks like a real classic, popular pizza place. I bet it gets packed when the people start rolling out of the bars in the trendy area. Give it a try!
google avatar

Chewie N.

Yelp
Yeah! Is it NYC style? Kinda!! The dough is ever-so-slightly cardboard, so maybe not totally NYC, but we really liked our slice and will go back again. Fast and friendly service. Cool vibe. Recommend!
google avatar

Audrey P.

Yelp
This place was fast and tasty. I really enjoyed the margarita pizza. I do enjoy a more saucy pizza but it does have a nice this crust so I understand why there isn't a lot.
google avatar

Stephanie V.

Yelp
Subs are pizza is so good and thin. Always loving coming here. The service is always super friendly and fast.
google avatar

Rachel L.

Yelp
Love the huge pizza slice! If you don't wanna wait to be seated they have another building to the right where you can buy by the slice! Super fast and pizza is fresh! We got the White Pie with Spinach, Pepperoni Slice, margherita, and meatball and onion slice. They have some tables out front that we were lucky to find since there were only 3-4 tables.
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
Picked up some pies and salads here today. The staff was incredibly accommodating. The food was also very good. I had the veggie pie and really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be back. Thanks, Home Slice!

Yelp
More Home Slice Pizza was our first stop after arriving in Austin. We were definitely feeling the symptoms of #hangriness, and the pizza here certainly hit the spot. Home Slice Pizza is the sit-down restaurant, and More Home Slice Pizza is the take-out only counter on the side. We arrived around 1:30pm on a Saturday and the line was about 20 minutes. Not too bad. I wish we had known this before, but you can't get White Clam Pizza from the More Home Slice counter sadly. You can only enjoy it at the sit-down restaurant when it's fresh. A little disappointed, but I went with 1 slice of White Pie with Spinach and 1 slice of Pepperoni. The restaurant has some seating inside, but it was so packed, so we just joined the other people sitting outside on the curb lol. Our food came in 10 mins or so and looked delicious! The pizza was cheesy but not too oily! I did think the White Pie was a bit dry and could have used a little more olive oil. But still delicious! The pizza crust was chewy yet crunchy, perfect! All of the other slices looked delicious as well! Glad we made this our first stop during our Austin trip!

Sherry N.

Yelp
I was walking by and noticed a bunch of people with a slice that looked so good. I had to stop to give it a try. The first bite was so crispy and I loved the crunch on the crust. The service is quick with their walk up window and food only takes a few minutes to be delivered to your table. If I lived in Austin, this would be my favorite pizza place.
google avatar

Josh R.

Yelp
Crunchy slice of pizza with fresh toppings. Will be returning for sure. Large selection for everyone.
google avatar

Kacey C.

Yelp
The perfect spot on SoCo! The take away atmosphere is very casual and upbeat on a weekend. A great place to enjoy a slice while soaking up Austin. We got two pepperoni slices, and a Caesar salad, plus they have Mexican Coke! The pizza was that perfect crisp New York style. The salad came with garlic knots that were best hot. The Caesar is more of a lemon Caesar than more anchovy. Matty working the outside patio brought such joy to the space and even offered to get us an extra garlic knot since we split a salad. Best part, no reservation needed
