Where to Eat Ice Cream in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Morelli’s started with its Ormewood Park shop in 2008, and it has since opened locations around Atlanta and at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Look for seasonal flavors like blueberry corncake, rosemary olive oil, and butter pecan. There’s now an ice cream stall at food hall Chattahoochee Food Works in Underwood Hills." - Eater Staff

11 Best Ice Cream Shops In Atlanta

"Creamy, rich, and full of flavor, a scoop of anything at Morelli’s feels like a smart life choice. The ice cream shop (we love the original Moreland location) is known for their unusual flavors like Grapenuts, blueberry corn cake, or coconut-jalapeño, so when life feels a little too vanilla, this is the place to shake things up. But we also love the classics like the standout hot fudge sundae with its velvety ice cream, rich fudge trickling over the top, and a soft fudge brownie at the bottom." - jacinta howard

Morelli's Gourmet Ice Cream and Desserts - Virginia Highland Review - Virginia-Highland - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"A Morelli's ice cream cone pairs well with a stroll down Virginia-Highland’s quaint, Hallmark movie-ready streets. Families stare at the freezer displays full of huge ice cream tubs, with flavors like vanilla fudge brownie and cotton candy attracting the attention of the kids. But they also offer hard-to-find flavors like East Indian Kulfi or lemon gingersnap, which appeal to those of us who don’t want ice cream that turns our mouths blue. A cluster of kids vie to push the giant red button on the wall (usually monitored by a parent) and watch as a toy train takes a lap around the elevated tracks near the ceiling." - Juli Horsford

Morelli's Gourmet Ice Cream Review - East Atlanta - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Creamy, rich, and full of flavor, a scoop of anything at Morelli’s—a top contender for best ice cream in the city— feels like a smart life choice. The ice cream shop is known for their unusual flavors like Grapenuts, blueberry corn cake, or coconut-jalapeño. But we prefer the classics like the standout hot fudge sundae with its velvety ice cream, rich fudge trickling over the top, and a soft fudge brownie at the bottom. The Moreland shop is counter-service only, and eating here feels like you’re the star in some Hallmark channel summer romcom with small tables under red umbrellas where you can watch kids playing and eating their ice cream." - Jacinta Howard

Google
Absolutely amazing ice cream - flavors change daily which is so fun and they even have dairy free options. We got small cones with Strawberry and Ginger Lavender ice cream and both were delicious. Probably the best strawberry ice cream I've ever had to be honest

Alex DeMartino

Google
What a great experience. We got the strawberry shortcake with thin mint, pecan praline and peach. The ice cream choices were ours and we enjoyed them, but definitely be careful about what ice cream you want to mix with the strawberry sauce (we got the sauce on the side because we weren't sure how the sauce was going to be). The strawberry sauce is actually strawberry and not imitation, big thumbs up on that.

Google
I brought my entire family to Morelli's ice cream. We were tasting different ice creams. The ice cream was better than anything I've tasted. Wow! The owner of Morelli's ice cream Donald and manager Omar showed great hospitality. Looking fwd to having the ice cream moving along.

Google
This is the BEST ice cream in Atlanta 🍦 Very creamy, not too sweet, with friendly staff and great prices.

Daniel Snook

Google
Best ice cream shop on the planet as far as I’m concerned. The ice cream is so creamy and high quality and the flavors are creative without getting too out there.

Erica Woullard

Google
The best butter pecan ice cream I've ever had!! It was so creamy and delicious...omg I had the waffle bowl, it's served warm. Definitely give them a try.

Russell Butler

Google
I'm sorry I didn't take a picture. I didn't think about it until I finished eating my strawberry shortcake. It was so delicious. Oh well, guess you'll just have to take my word for it. Please go! Wonderful east atlanta experience!

Google
If you love trying new flavors and adore ice cream, this is the place for you. They offer new flavors every time I visit, and each one is simply amazing. The ice cream is exceptionally creamy and flavorful. They make their waffle cones fresh, and the variety of ice cream and cone options will suit anyone's preferences. The staff is always helpful and patient, especially when you ask to sample multiple flavors. They are always friendly and eager to help you make the right choice. They also offer gluten-free and non-dairy options. If you're like me and can't finish a double scoop, I found that ordering the kid size (one scoop) with a waffle cone is just the perfect amount to leave you satisfied. However, if you can handle more, I recommend going for their small size, which includes two scoops.

Yelp
Ok, the parking is a little wonky over here but other than that; if you're looking for a place with some fresh dessert that will add a little cherry on top after dinner, this is it. I had my first fill of Morelli's in N highland I believe but this location brought some fire with the pecan pralines. Call me what you want but it was amazing! I absolutely love the taste of the vanilla with a touch of caramel here and there and some crunch of the pecans to add to the magic. My daughter had the cotton candy which to my surprise was actually really good. She got the sugar cone and I got the waffle cone. My cone tasted like perfection.

Yelp
This tiny little shop had some really great flavors to offer. We tasted a few flavors but finally decided on a Mexican malt milkshake with chili and a banana blueberry scoop in cone. The milkshake didn't have any chili in it unfortunately, but tasted great as a chocolate shake. The banana blueberry had a nice fresh flavor, that I really enjoyed. The service took a while though. So that was the only minus. Otherwise it's a great spot.
google avatar

Vaibhav M.

Yelp
My experience at Morelli's Ice Cream was a bit of a mixed bag. While I was excited to try their chocolate malt shake with spicy powder, I found it to be a bit not too spicy for my liking. Parking was also a hassle, and the setup of just a window with outdoor seating made it feel a bit cramped. However, despite these drawbacks, Morelli's had its highlights. The service was quick, and I appreciated the relaxed, low-key vibe of the place. Plus, the shake itself was filling and absolutely delicious, making it worth the visit despite the minor inconveniences. Just remember to bring your card, as they're cashless!
google avatar

Enna J.

Yelp
The service was great but the icecream itself was all just ok. Honestly, I don't know why so many people said that "it's the best ice cream in Atlanta". I admit that there are a lot of flavors to choose from but outside of that it kind of lacked. It was overpriced and just didn't live up to the hype. If you're in the area and want ice cream, sure. But I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to get it. Maybe I just didn't try the right flavor.
google avatar

Taylor R.

Yelp
Omg the rum raisin ice cream is absolutely delicious and you REALLY taste the rum. I opted for a slice of their 6up pound cake with a small (2 scoops) cup of rum raisin and butter pecan. Everything individually was so yummy but together??? Oh it was tippity top tier! The cashiers were friendly and made great recommendations if you're on the fence feel free to ask for a sample. They greeted me as soon as I walked up and were patient as I went over the menu. They do have a few outdoor table for you to sit outside and enjoy if you can't wait to take it home which I appreciated because who wants to wait? Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Faydria G.

Yelp
This was a perfect day for this delicious ice cream. My sister brought me and my grandson here. She knows I can't have ice cream. So she assured me that they would have sorbet and it would be good. And mann was it?!!!!! Strawberry and Lemon are 2 of my favorite fruit flavors ever. Besides mango and Kiwi. Just so you know if anyone ever asks you . But the flavors was on point and definitely did not disappoint at all. So if your in search of some good sorbet. You got to visit Morelli's.
google avatar

Emma T.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream! My favorite is the blueberry corncake. They always have such interesting flavors and the menu changes daily. While there is likely be a long line, it goes pretty quickly and the staff is friendly and helpful to make sure you get the exactly flavor you need. There's some seating outside, but it's a lovely neighborhood with lots of walkable streets. I'd go every day if I could!
google avatar

Ahmad W.

Yelp
My favorite ice cream place in Atlanta Georgia! You can never go wrong here! I got a double ice cream cone with Brooklyn Cheesecake and Fudge Almond!
google avatar

Tawnya L.

Yelp
Best ice cream in the city! This was my second time visiting Morelli's the first was t a different location. This location, the original, only has an outside walk up window. However the ice cream is still great. Unfortunately they didn't have my favorite, Brooklynn Cheesecake (outside of pints) but I settled for the peanut butter caramel crunch shake and it was tasty. Service was quick and while a bit pricey you can't beat good local churned ice cream! Hopefully next time they will have Brooklyn Cheesecake available as that's the best in the whole world!
google avatar

Joe J.

Yelp
Great quality, I got the strawberry milkshake and it was amazing. I'll def stop by again if I'm in the area.
google avatar

Anthony D.

Yelp
Morelli Gourmet Ice Cream's root beer float is a true delight. The creamy ice cream blends perfectly with the fizzy root beer, creating a refreshing treat that's hard to beat. It's a must-try for any ice cream lover!
google avatar

Lindsay W.

Yelp
This place is so cute! Plus, the staff is so kind and patient. We just happened upon it and decided that it was a good ice cream day. While there are not a ton of daily flavors, that it totally ok with me. I had a half scoop of the banana pudding and a half scoop of the strawberry shortcake. Both flavors meshed well and yet, you could still take their distinct flavors. I think I loved the banana pudding more. My daughter had chocolate in a waffle bowl and she thoroughly enjoyed it as well.
google avatar

Angie S.

Yelp
This is some of the creamiest ice cream. We each had different flavors. I had dairy free butter pecan, it missed none of the dairy.
google avatar

D'Jillisser K.

Yelp
The ideal way to conclude the summer season is by indulging in some gourmet ice cream and savoring the day. I decided to go for the white chocolate raspberry flavor, which was absolutely delightful. I also requested a cone on the side, which added to the overall ice cream experience.

Deb L.

Yelp
Discovering this ice cream shop was a delightful surprise after having lunch nearby. While I initially fell for their pistachio flavor, this time I opted for the dulce de leche, and every bite was a burst of flavor. I tend to get ice cream fatigue and end up throwing away the last few bites, but their kid-sized cone is just perfect, ensuring that I enjoy every last bite. It's safe to say, this place has earned its spot as my favorite ice cream spot!
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Great Ice cream shop. Only outdoor seating. Different flavors like key lime pie! Good service and fair prices
google avatar

Subira J.

Yelp
There was a line so we had a feeling this place was good !! Really great flavors and the staff was funny. We stood in line for 5 minutes and there was an area to sit and wait. I'm dairy free so there were options that did not only include chocolate and they made a fresh waffle cone for me! This is my new ice cream spot THANK GOODNESS.

Yelp
There's really only two ice creams worth a planned drive in my part of town. There's (1) she-who-will-not-be-named and (2) Morelli's. The shop is perfectly situated to catch the post-dinner traffic from Spoon, Little Azio, and whatever else is at the intersection these days. They serve through a walk-up window next to a modest arrangement of picnic tables. On a usual Saturday night, the line is continuously 5-10 people deep, with pleasant chatter and energy. They post a rotating list of ~15 ice cream flavors, with the occasional sorbet. Recipes are pretty conservative, with the occasional foray into ginger lavender or coconut jalapeño. Non-dairy is usually available too. Sundaes, shakes, and 7-up pound cake round out the simple menu. Apparently they make ice cream cakes to order, reminding me of the Carvels of my childhood. I find the product really tasty, and the recipes seem to use high-quality flavors. I've never had a scoop that tasted like they were holding back on an expensive ingredient, which happens sometimes at less enjoyable places. Service is not the fastest, but be aware the product is worth a few extra minutes of your time.

Niaz P.

Yelp
A very creamy ice cream and flavorful. The cake batter had chunks of cake. Their shake is also well blended and flavorful and they'll add whipped cream and a cherry. There's some seating inside and out. Around 4 parking spaces in total that I saw in front of the place.
google avatar

Monique V.

Yelp
Sure wish I could've had ice cream today at 1:40 on a Wednesday. But the two workers were pretending to be busy doing something and didn't come to the window or respond to my knocking I was doing and I stood there for about 15 mins. I know they were open too because it said on their hours listed that was posted on all the windows I went to. Anyway, I should've taken pics but oh well it didn't matter I won't be back.
google avatar

Allison F.

Yelp
At one time, Morelli's was ranked as one of the top ice cream shops in the country. I can totally see why. The Guava Cheesecake was rich, and the texture was like velvet. It was a treat. Can't do dairy? Morelli's also has dairy free options.

Taiya D.

Yelp
The Strawberry Shortcake made with 7UP poundcake????? Maybe I was high, maybe it's maybelline. Either way....RUN don't walk.
google avatar

Antoinette K.

Yelp
I love Morelli's Ice cream especially the sea salt caramel ice cream. The service is good and the staff are friendly!
google avatar

Yelp
Decent little ice cream shop! I honestly had slightly higher expectations that weren't really quite met, but...it's ice cream, and I don't think I've ever had bad ice cream. Like many ice cream shops, Morelli's is a walk-up type of place with a couple of tables and chairs to sit at outside. They were open till 10 on Sunday evening, so we found time after dinner to fly over and grab dessert. Even though we arrived at ~9:45, we were served politely and promptly, which I appreciate as I'm sure they wanted to wind down for the night. I was a little disappointed in the flavor selection the night we went. I really wanted a more "special" type of flavor (more toppings/flavors mixed in, a la rocky road), but none of the ones that were available sounded good to me, so I wound up with plain chocolate. I paid 50 cents extra to add Oreos on top just for a little added texture. It was fine. The chocolate was creamy with a nice texture, but not the most flavorful chocolate I've ever had. This is gonna sound like a weird complaint, but I honestly thought they put on too many Oreo pieces; they were so plentiful that every single bite I took was so loaded with Oreos I couldn't really even enjoy the texture of the ice cream, which was probably the best part. My friends seemed happy enough with their scoops. Overall, I'd consider revisiting to try out a different flavor of ice cream. Maybe better luck next time.
google avatar

Priscilla B.

Yelp
I love this place, I'm a regular and I visit Morelli's very often with my kids. Definitely a must go to, if your in tue East Atlanta area.
google avatar

Keith F.

Yelp
You need to try a pint. We like ice cream in this house and need to spoil ourselves from time to time. The menu revolves, but you can usually find some great butter pecan, Oreo cookie, salted caramel.
google avatar

Ri S.

Yelp
Ive had all of the the nondairy ice cream flavors on a waffle cone and although the texture is slightly different, the flavor was still strong and there. They are the perfect option for lactose intolerant customers like myself (but I still will eat regular ice cream from time to time ha-ha). The prices for cones to me was not worth it (because of size not bc of quality). I'd rather buy a pint. I've ordered chocolate ice cream in a pint via Uber eats before and it was SO GOOD ! I felt like I was eating luxury ice cream with it's silky texture and flavorful bites. I will be back but PINTS ONLY.
google avatar

D G.

Yelp
Milkshake or scoops of ice cream I just love Morelli's. It's hot season and no better time to get there. Don't mind the short line it's worth it!!!!! The menu is always updated.
google avatar

Kristi C.

Yelp
Stopped by Morelli's for ice cream, ToGo of course! Lemon Sorbet in the waffle cone was heavenly on such a warm day! Great customer service! Be safe out everyone!
google avatar

Yelp
Yesssss Ice Creammmmm!!! My husband and I were craving something sweet and had yet to try Morelli's. We come to this shopping area quite often to pick up Spoon's takeout but never for ice cream. But we finally changed that! Los Guidry's Thoughts and Recommendations: - Lots of flavors! A must for any ice cream shop and Morelli's is no exception. - Scoops are large! I ordered a sugar cone with 2 scoops and man they were very generous. - If you're not looking for ice cream scoops, that's ok! They also have milkshakes, cakes, brownies and blondies, and pints. My husband ordered a chocolate milkshake and loved it. - Great service! The ladies behind the counter were so patient as we made our decisions and friendly from beginning to end. - Parking is tight which is unfortunate. If it's a busy day you may have to drive in and out of the lot a couple times and hope you get lucky. Overall I'm thankful to have an awesome ice cream shop relatively close to home. We'll be back soon!
google avatar

J K.

Yelp
Kinda mad I'm just finding out about this ice cream shop. We have so many too choose from but Morelli tops them. The ice cream is SO GOOD! Customer Service, Ambiance, Flavors, are all perfect. If i had to say one bad thing it would be the parking in this small area of several restaurants. PLEASE GET COOKIE MONSTER and SALTED CARAMEL!
google avatar

Yanna K.

Yelp
The brownie sundae is absolutely delicious. But I'm noticing that each time I order this Sundae I end up with a sinus infection. I'm not sure what chemicals is in their dairy products here but I can't and won't eat here again
google avatar

Cherelle J.

Yelp
I ordered the banana split. Came with vanilla, strawberry and chocolate ice cream. Chocolate and strawberry sauce, a banana and whip cream. Great size and their ice cream is delicious! You can tell it's good/real quality ice cream. I'd definitely go back. Just wish they had somewhere to sit inside. Go get the banana split!
google avatar

Whitney B.

Yelp
Love, love, LOVE their ice cream! Some favorites are the Strawberry Shortcake (and the use 7up Pound Cake), Butter Pecan, Rosemary Olive Oil...honestly, you cannot go wrong here!
google avatar

S T.

Yelp
Very delicious ice cream cake. We ordered the yellow cake with Oreo cookie ice cream. Very nice size and great taste. Family devoured it.
google avatar

Dominique N.

Yelp
I love the different ice cream options as well as how often they change. They have very creative flavors and always something new for me to try. My go-to is butter pecan, but am always down to try one with heath, whether heath oreo, heath caramel, or whatever other zany flavors they come up with!
google avatar

Sheronda G.

Yelp
My absolute favorite ice cream shop in the area. Why you ask? Because they offer non-dairy ice cream that's why!! The flavors change on a regular basis, but the toppings remain the same. Great customer service and they're pretty fast. I've had the brownie sundae and the blondie, both are amazing!! The waffle cones are always made to order which means they're nice and hot. It's the perfect way to end a cone dessert. When it's nice enough you can sit outside. They're in a pretty busy parking lot so sometimes you'll have to wait for an open spot. It's worth the wait!!
google avatar

Shakia B.

Yelp
Great place to stop and have a regular come or one of their exotic flavors. My mom's favorite
google avatar

Shannon T.

Yelp
Delicious and inventive flavors. Good service. Have to force myself to stay away. Definitely a guilty pleasure.
google avatar

Albert M.

Yelp
A nice neighborhood ice cream parlor on the SE side of ATL. Ice cream is hand packed with popular flavors. I only wish they had a broader variety.

Michelle W.

Yelp
My husband had the milkshake and kids had the ice cream cups. They all enjoyed it. My brownie sundae was decent. The ice cream tastes good, but I don't like the cake brownie. I would prefer a fudge brownie in my sundaes. I would visit again.
google avatar

Tam F.

Yelp
Bae got the cookies and cream milkshake. I got the Mocha Almond Milkshake that honestly taste like an almond joy. They also offer cake, pints and root beer floats.
google avatar

Amyn H.

Yelp
Fancy flavors, great service, local favorite. Love their ice cream! E read about them years ago in Time magazine!

Joe G.

Yelp
Had a pint of cookies and cream today. Was horrible. This is not ice cream. It's frozen gums. Look at the ingredients. Main ingredients are carrageenan, diglycerides, cellulose gum, guar gum, and corn syrup. Not what I would call gourmet. If you want actual ice cream that is gourmet, Jeni's is still tops.
google avatar

Don B.

Yelp
Morelli's ice cream is amazing! They have delicious flavors and friendly service. This time we tried oatmeal cookie, chocolate fudge with raspberry, cookies and cream and salted caramel. They didn't last very long they were so good.
google avatar

Steve V.

Yelp
We came here on National Ice Cream day and the line was pretty long. The location is in a strip mall so we saw the line before we parked, but decided to go for it anyway. The line about 10 parties deep took about 20 minutes. We ordered and were impressed by their selection of flavors, including some unique ones. The same person that takes your order completes the order. In our case, one of the flavors we ordered, the Cookie Monster, ran out between the time we ordered and when she went to fill the order. No big deal, but wish they had more stock. The Cookie Monster is vanilla-based, with chocolate chips, Oreo, and cookie dough. We'll be back for some of that!
google avatar

DJ G.

Yelp
Found Morelli's since they had dairy free options! This hip little spot was delicious and felt like home. Had a few people in front of us, so we had to wait a little, but the ice cream was well worth it. The workers had on masks and gloves, and had plexiglass in front of the windows. Thank you for keeping us safe! They only had 1 dairy free option today, but it was great! I ordered 1 scoop of the Butter Pecan. Lots of pecans and extra creamy. My husband had 1 scoop Salted Caramel & 1 Cookie Monster. They both looked AMAZING and he said the Cookie Monster was perfect. We sat at one of their tables under the shade and watched as many happy people ordered and got their ice cream. I'm very happy we found this neighborhood shop. Ps. Make sure to tip extra well these days!
google avatar

Joni R.

Yelp
Great place. Fancy ice cream and flavors with smooth cool taste. Social distancing friendly (order at one window and pick up at another. Support this small business in East Atlanta!

Yelp
I had a friend in town who had a major sweet tooth. We had explored other ice cream shops and I thought we would give this one a try. FOOD: The ice cream here was great! They had tons of variations to choose from. It's not expensive so go ahead and get two scoops. One safe choice and another experimental. ATMOSPHERE: This is all outdoors. They have a window where you order from the staff. The menu is off tho the side so make sure to take a picture before you jump in line to go over your options. The line was longer than available outdoor seating, but most people were ordering to-go. I don't want to give my ice cream a chance to melt so it's important to me to have a spot to do it on-site. COVID: The staff had mask and gloves when I went. They also have a 6 ft space rule with seating reflecting that. It was also outdoors so I felt better about not wearing a mask as I ate my ice cream. PARKING: It's connected to a plaza, but there are a lot of stores so parking was there, but it took a while to find. Overall this was a great experience and the ice cream was really good. I personally prefer Jeni's ice cream, but it's good to switch it up sometimes.
