25 Top Restaurants in Jersey City - Eater NY

"Jersey City has a handful of Egyptian seafood restaurants exhibiting a cooking style that originated in the Mediterranean port of Alexandria. There are whole fish grilled or fried, depending on the coarseness of the flesh, served with salad, baba ghanoush, fried rice, and french fries. (If grilled, the skin comes out black, and should be pulled off and discarded.) The menu also includes other Mediterranean dishes, such as red-sauced seafood pasta and fried squid. Decorated with nautical motifs, Morgan serves incredibly fresh seafood at prices that put Manhattan restaurants to shame." - Robert Sietsema

Google
Nice convenient seafood spot near Journal Square. I had a fish sandwich, which was delicious and very fresh. Hummus was also top notch. Peaceful dining room with ocean decor for those dining in.

Google
Great service and etiquette, they helped us choose because they wanted us to enjoy our meal. The fish was fresh, well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked. The calamari tajin was rich and full of flavor. The sides—baba ghanoush, sweet tahini, sayedya rice, salad, and warm bread, all made our meal even better. What made their place truly special was the kindness of the staff. They treated us with warmth and even accommodated us outside their work hours, because we came late from another state, which we really appreciated. The hospitality was amazing, and we will definitely be back! Thank you so much!

Family friendly, great food made fresh, good portions. Very friendly service.

Google
I would definitely recommend eating in this restaurant vs doing delivery for a better experience. The bbq branzino is well seasoned. The food is made while you are there so it can take some time to come out, but it is worth it. I especially like the fresh pita too.

Google
I don’t recommend it ,The food it’s not too bad but comparing to the price it’s too much for that simple place $35 plus tax , the price of the menu on Google picture is completely different in the restaurant, And the lady in the front she was mad because she had somebody calling and asking for the price , never go back

Google
Very nice eatery most would walk by. We had the whole fish one fried and one grilled. Even the children liked it.

Google
First thing - the food is very good. But the service is very pathetic. All the service guys won’t know English, so the communications will be little difficult. Three different guys came and took the same order, literally five times. Also make sure that you gets what you ordered. There is nothing wrong with the food or the taste. All the dishes we ordered was really really awesome. I would like to thank the chef for that. Also it will be little difficult to find the restaurant at night. There won’t be any name board that is visible easily.

Google
Its a small place. Dont go by the lools of it but they serve good food. Everything os halal. We got the calamari in tomato sauce and the bronzinni fish bbq. The calamari was nice and soft and the tomato sauce had a nice flavor to it. The fish was nicely done with plenty of seasoning. However next time i go there ill probably get either grilled or fried. With bbq you get some areas of the fish that are burned so I would get it cooked in a different way. The owner was very nice and friendly.

Yelp
I haven't dined in here in years, but I have been getting hummus and baba ganoush take out consistently on my way home past several months. THE BEST HUMMUS AND BABA GANOUSH. I get 2 small containers of each (quarter pound) and I SLAY THEM IN 2 DAYS!!!! SOOOO FREAKING GOOD!!!! I just eat it out of the container with a spoon like a freaking häagen-dazs!!! My only regret is I can't taste them uninterrupted/unmixed in my mouth all at the same time like a twisty cone. I am freaking addicted to this place!!!

Yelp
Amazing food and even better hospitality. We went when it was 9pm and they were just about to close the kitchen but ended up allowing us to dine anyways which was so nice. All the food was perfectly seasoned and everything came out to perfection. Everyone there was so nice !!

Wunmi A.

Yelp
Really delicious and authentic. Nice waitstaff and overall calm environment. A good place to simply enjoy good food. Very no frills. The calamari was one of the best I've ever had. Very light breading! The branzino was very fresh and well seasoned.

Yelp
I ordered takeout over the phone and got the Grilled Brazino Meal. Food was ready in 35 min, but by the time I got there it was still being prepped. The Brazino came with a salad, pita, tahini sauce, and brown rice. It was a pretty big portion, a whole fish (with bones in) plus all these aides! Fish was tender, and the meat was juicy. The skin was coated with herbs and was crunchy. There was a kick to the fish, since on think peppers were added. Note that it looks like online takeout prices look to be different than what you can get when you call in. This was a nice little hidden gem in the neighborhood I hope to come back to try some of their other seafood dishes.

Yelp
I was looking for a place to eat, and then I read Dong K's review of this place about the baba ghanoush and hummus, I was sold by such a review, and OMG, my wife and me decided we're never getting Trader Joe's or any store brand hummus again. Staff was super nice, and I didn't even know it came with pita! Will be returning for more, only got those two items but 100% repeats!

Yelp
Great find!!! I saw pictures of the grilled fish online, and knew I had to try it. As recommended I called well in advance, and was told they needed 35 minutes to prepare my food (grilled branzino fish). The first time, I ordered the meal. The meal comes with their cucumber/tomato salad, hummus (?), brown rice, and pita bread. Only the salad is worth having. Note that the prices you see on here are not accurate. Meal ended up being approx. $24. Fish alone is $15.00. This is authentic Mediterranean food, so it's difficult to understand the staff on the phone. After I learn Spanish, Arabic is up next. The fish is Fantastic. Full of different spices, but not hot spicy at all. And with a great Smokey flavor as well. It's an entire fish, so beware of bones. Most of the time, I'm unwilling to deal with bones, but it was worth it. Last, the staff is nice. Smiles are universal, and they smile back when I do. Not a given in Jersey City. HIGHLY recommended.

Yelp
Time: it took about 30 minutes from the time I ordered to the time the food was served. Quality: the quality of the food was definitely fresh. medium to High. Quantity: will definitely leave you full. First date: definitely not, very casual not the type of place you want your date to experience for a first impression. Overall: good place to hang out with friends, and have some Egyptian seafood (rare to find). Special note: I would definitely try the teheny and fried fish (snapper). Would I recommend: yes

Yelp
Another hidden Gem in Jersey City that is easy to miss considering it is tucked in a busy street filled with street vendors and several other retail stores. Family owned, and absolutely delicious food that sticks to the basics (oven baked or bbq'd) with a good selection of local fish like black and stripes bass. Got the grilled shrimp with came with an orgasmic sauce and also got a striped bass baked. Both were fantastic and did not break the bank. We left happy !

Yelp
My wife and I were, for some reason, craving fresh fish one night and we didn't want to drive far. We decided to try Morgan and just... wow. The fish was so fresh, the service was so polite and prompt, and we left full~ without spending an arm and a leg. Even though parking is kind of hard to find depending on the time of day, the restaurant is a worthwhile find especially if you're looking for fresh seafood in the area. They had BRANZINO that day and so we ordered that~ it came out fresh, the skin nice and crispy and discernibly cumin-y (which I like). The white meat was lean and flaky but still full of flavor. We also ordered the GRILLED SHRIMP, marinated in their special garlic sauce. The char of the grill reminded me of homestyle grilling in the backyard on a summer (which is pretty cool given that it was in a restaurant in Jersey in the end of winter/beginning of spring), while the shrimp (much like the branzino) was just so fresh and the garlic marinade garlicky but not so much that it detracts from the freshness of the shrimp. I would really like to go back again and try some more dishes! Good just so good.

Yelp
My wife and I go to Morgan Fish Market pretty regularly. It's a big hit with out of town guests, or with folks who cross the river from Manhattan to visit us in Jersey City. The restaurant is no/low frills, but always delivers a high quality dining experience. For a completely reasonable price, you can get a full fish fried or grilled, along with hummus, salad, babaganoush, and rice. I usually order one of the fantastic shrimp dishes as well. I always get the fish grilled. I'm sure the fried fish is fantastic, but I love the smokiness of grilled fish. The spice and herb mixture that tops the fish, mixed with the smoke from the fire, and the soft fleshy fish is a perfect combination. For $20, you end up with a feast fit for a king.

Yelp
Had better meals here in the past... Something was definitely different this last visit. The most noticeable thing was probably the hummus. It got incredibly watery, not only compared to previous visits, but compared to other places as well. Actually, now that I think about it, it tasted more like thinned out tahini with a bit of lemon. The hummus used to be awesome here. Not sure what happened... Out of chickpeas...? The seasoning and spice on the fish is still awesome. However, I'm not really sure if they scaled it all that well, if at all. We ordered one grilled and one fried. The fried one was extremely small, almost half the size of the grilled one. No prompt to adjust the price on the small fish at all. Food is still taking extremely long to turnover. Would definitely recommend calling ahead unless you have at least an hour and a half to burn. Hoping this was just an off day. Would hate to lose another good seafood joint...

Yelp
It's official. This unassuming little place serves the best fish in Jersey City. We walked in at around 1 pm on a Saturday and were surprised to find it was empty. We chatted with the owner Hamid for a few minutes and quickly placed our order - - Morgan platter with Tilapia and fried shrimp: served with salad, shrimp rice and pita bread - Grilled sea bass - Hummus and baba ganoush The Morgan platter came out in about 15 minutes, but we had to wait for over 45 minutes for the star of the meal - the perfectly charred Sea Bass to make an appearance! By that time, the restaurant was completely packed with regulars patiently waiting for their lunch and kids running all over the place (buyer beware!). Anyway forget all that - the food was so GOOD. Absolutely fresh and made with love. The fried shrimp had a great texture, crispy fried with a mix of herbs and a green rub, very flavorful. The Tilapia and shrimp rice were delicious as well - the rice was made in red sauce and was packed with shrimp. However, next time I would just get the platter with plain brown rice - it would be a better accompaniment IMHO. And yes, coming to the Sea Bass, it was charred to smoky perfection - flaky, juicy and so fresh, it was devoured in precisely five minutes (the husband is an expert at deveining fish)! The hummus and baba ganoush added a nice balance to the meal. Wonderful hospitality and wonderful food - can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Went here for dinner. Ordered calamari it came with tomato sauce for an appetizer and it was nice. I won't recommend unless it's a must to have Calamari for u in a sea food restaurant:) for the entree we ordered Bronzino fish BBQ this was nicely marinated( takes 35 mins to get the grilled fish and 15 mins for fried) the entree comes with 2 pieces of pita, hummus, salad and Brown rice or French fries. This was good for two people really. Considering the restaurant it's little pricey for an entree but good to try. Ordered rice pudding for a dessert not so impressive. We may go back if we are in the NJ area. Hope this helps:)

Yelp
Different and original seafood joint! Food is descent; nice variety of fish dishes and fried calamari was on point! Top it off with the tahini sauce and it's out of this world! Prices a little on the expensive side but worth it!

Yelp
This place is soooo good! The BBQ whole fish (I've had the branzino and the red snapper) are outstanding! My advise is to take off the skin and extensive seasoning on the outside when you eat it as sometimes it's overpowering the flesh of the fish. What I do is just dab the flesh on the seasoning and that is all it takes to highlight the flavor! Their whole fish is always so tender and juicy! Put some tahini on that brown rice, and eat with the fish and you are good! Their calamari in tomato sauce is ALSO incredible!!! Tender calamari rings sautéed in a rich tomato (and garlic and various seasoning, and I think there may be bits of ground meat?) is perfection and it keeps it from getting tough. Lastly, their popcorn shrimp is a MUST TRY! The batter they use is not the tradition flour batter used in US restaurants; rather it's a lighter batter much similar to tempura, hence giving you a very light batter and tender shrimp. When you sit down, do try their tea as it compliments the meal so well! The people running the place are also just super friendly and good people. So glad that they are in this neighborhood!!!

Yelp
Excellent food! Some of the best fish I've had in Jersey City. And the portions are ample. The service is relative quick considering all the food you get. And the staff is friendly.

Shengdun H.

Yelp
The fish is really good, not too spicy, not plain, just the right flavor. You need to wait for 30+ mins and the price on the menu is subject to change without notice.

Yelp
Everything just worked well for us yesterday. We were driving around looking for parking since there aren't that many spots where you could park. Luckily for us, the metered parking spot closest to the streetlight opened up and we were merely 10 feet or so from the actual restaurant. Although we arrived at 11:45am, we waited until 12:10pm-ish since the owner was still bringing in ingredients. We didn't order until roughly 12:30pm, but it was totally cool with us. Our patience was rewarded well. Grilled Striped Bass Main Course (($17.99): Grilled to perfection. While the fish skin is charred, the flaky meat itself is moist, juicy, and flavorful. It was not a second overcooked. Each bite was enjoyable because the spice rub they use on the fish is an interesting mix of spicy and ardent flavors. It blends well with each of the different kinds of fish they offer. This "main course" comes with brown rice (or french fries), tehena, bread, and a salad. The salad is refreshing; the vegetables were fresh and crisp, while the vinaigrette they use had the perfect tanginess. We also enjoyed the tehena with bread. My table also ordered grilled branzino and fried red snapper, both of which were just as delicious as my striped bass. Any of the whole fish they offer can be grilled, fried, or baked. Hot Tea with Mint ($1.99): I actually wanted an ice tea, but the owner offered hot tea, so I gave it a shot. I'm not sure what kind of tea they brewed, but it was very aromatic. It had a smooth roasted taste that complemented well with the mint that was thrown in. If you order this, you might want to order an extra drink since their hot tea is served in a pretty small coffee cup. Overall, we had a fantastic lunch. The service was great, everyone was friendly, and most importantly, the food was delicious. We will definitely come back here and try the rest of their fish selection.

Yelp
Decided to pick up dinner tonight and got the fried fish with shrimp fried rice. It was surprisingly good. I'm knocking a star because they didn't give any tahini for the fish. So the fish tasted bland without it. They don't skimp on the shrimp like most Chinese restaurants so that's a plus but it's very oily.. Overall, for 9 bucks it was a satisfying dinner
google avatar

Indhira L.

Yelp
The food and service are amazing. This is the definition of a hole in the wall, be ready to have a fantastic dinner. The area is not nice and the restaurant is small and humble but I think this adds to the dining experience, I felt like I was at a someone's home and they wanted to make me happy with delicious food.

Yelp
We were visiting from Boston and Morgan was recommended for us as we were looking for seafood! I have to say that the food here is amazing! People are extremely polite and the owner who also is the chef took the time to leave the kitchen and come out to explain to us what different types of fish they have and how he cooks them! Even my 2 children who don't usually eat seafood both had their plates. I ordered the Morgan seafood platter and that was a huge portion of Calamari, shrimp, fried tilapia and brown rice! My husband ordered a BBQ fish that also was recommended to him by the owner. We had Egyptian tea and desert (Roz belaban) after food and I finally have to say that their food and their service are more than excellent! I'm definitely going back there every time I visit NJ.

Yelp
Good: Seafood!! Good menu options. Dishes ordered: - Fried Stripped Bass entree - Fried Branzino. - Rice with Shrimp - Calamari in tomato sauce The entrees come with warm pita bread, tahini, fries and cucumber mint salad. All the accompaniments with the entree were fantastic. You can switch salad for fries for the entrees. No frills place and run by a husband and wife so keeps the prices low. Also they are open 7 days a week! Bad: place is cozy with only a few tables. This is more of a take out place than a sit down place. They use a 3rd party delivery service that charges $4 for delivery. Street parking around the restaurant can be tricky but there is paid park of nearby. Ugly: nothing really Will I be back: yes most likely will order delivery
google avatar

Geraldine E.

Yelp
Ordered the filet fish with shrimp rice. So tasty and flavorful it was Tangy and with a hint of fresh herbs. Definitely worth the price of 8.99. They also gave us hummus for trying this spot for the first time. Staff was very friendly. I only suggest that they changing their signage for their awning. It was hard to find the place with bright lights overpowering the name of the restaurant. Drove past it twice

Yelp
I FINALLY made it out to Morgan. This a Jersey City establishment that deserves every bit of praise it gets. It's tiny, so takeout is recommended, though the place isn't lacking charm. The focus is rightly on the food, with their Main Course offerings more than enough for two people to share (or for one person to make two dinners out of). Maxing out at $19, you get your choice of whole fish (ranging from cheaper choices such as tilapia and perch to delicacies like branzino and orata) with heaping sides of brown rice, tahini sauce, two pieces of fresh pita, and a tomato-cucumber-onion salad. The brown rice is tender and fragrant, the tahini thick, the pita soft, and the tomato salad immensely refreshing (with fresh veggies in an oil-and-vinegar dressing topped with dill and mint). The fish is clearly the star, prepared as your choice of baked, barbecued, or fried. I went with the BBQ'd branzino. It took close to an hour for the meal to be prepped and driving back from JSQ on a Sunday evening is never fun but....it was worth it. The fish was as fresh as can be. What they term 'BBQ' is closer to what you'd think of as 'blackened': coated with spices and cooked at high heat until the exterior is crisp and the flesh tender. This is among the best fish I've had in a restaurant (McCormick's in Seattle still tops the list). The meat was mild and just firm enough, providing an excellent base for the heavily spiced crusted skin. The skin was a bit salty but the balance of spices worked well. This was not an easy eat, though: being a whole fish, you'll have to deal with a number of bones. I'll be back at some point for something baked or fried. All in all, very highly recommended

Yelp
Best "feast" experience in NYC. Alexandrian hospitality. no pretension, just comfort and a true feast. the owner wants you to be happy and full! You choose your fish, choose the smart looking fish. branzino oratat bass, snapper, mullet, tilapia, perch, shrimp, calamari, tahini, hummus, babaganoush, potatoes, good hot bread
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
Now I understand what everyone is raving about. I love places like these - brings back a lot of good memories. The seafood is displayed right as you enter, so you can see how good it looks. My wife had the branzino, full order and I had the prawns. They served pita, the tahini dip and a cucumber tomato salad. The dip and salad was really good, but I think the pita is not homemade as it got dry and hard real quick. The grilled fish came wrapped in aluminum foil and it was a good size, very moist inside and although I was expecting the skin to be crisped, I guess the wrapping prevented it. Sill, it was very good. My prawns (4 for $15) was a great deal. It's not easy to find these around JC. Cooked in what they call garlic sauce, it had a lot of middle eastern spices on it, and some people might not be ready for that. We will definitely be back to sample the other fishes such as sea bass, red snapper and tilapia.

Yelp
If you want to have the freshest seafood in the area, you definitely need to check this place out. Very family friendly environment- the owner knows what I usually order. I would recommend the Morgan plater if you want to try everything.
google avatar

Osaka B.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place. Staff: Polite to very friendly. The Space: I always sit by the door. Otherwise get it to go. The restaurant has a funny smell. The Food: Middle Eastern. Oddly enough I've never enquired as to where the owners are from exactly. Fried shrimp sandwich is excellent. Tehena is delish. Fried shrimp. Calamari. Also the rice is very tasty. Also try a Brasilia soda while you are their! Price: Very inexpensive versus the quality and portions you are receiving.

Yelp
The food here is a solid 5. Amazing for a hole in wall restaurant. However, budget a lot of time. Service pace is the only thing that prevents this from being 5 stars. I mean A LOT of time (45min to an hour more of what you think).
google avatar

Lily Z.

Yelp
I'm in Jersey City for a convention and my husband came with for a few days of exploration. We found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try since we love seafood. First off, let me tell you about the hummus. I'm not a huge fan of hummus to begin with, but it was out of this world here! The pita bread came out warm and fluffy. I just couldn't stop eating it. We ordered the branzino whole fish grilled, and it was amazing. Being Asian, we are used to eating whole fish, but this was definitely a different flavor to the traditional Chinese method. It had a dry rub on the outside, grilled, and then wrapped in foil to contain all the deliciousness. I would definitely come back! Don't hesitate to give this place a try!

Yelp
I'd heard about Morgan for quite some time, as it's more or less the highest rated place in the area of Jersey City I lived in. I'd never heard of Egyptian fish places being a thing, and being hungry one night I made the trek over. Nobody here really speaks much English but they are very nice. I had called in my order in advance for takeout, and it wasn't ready when I arrived. I have no clue why it took so long, but I didn't complain seeing as they wouldn't understand me and I didn't have much else to do at the time. After being in a staring contest with their fish case for 30 minutes, I got my food and headed home. When I finally got it, the fish with rice was thoroughly enjoyable. They used tilapia and grilled it very well; the rice was also huge and tasty, although the shrimp had an odd flavor to them and they went overkill on the seasoning. For $7, this was a huge container of food that I was able to portion into dinner and also lunch the next day. That's a tremendous value, and I think that's why the reviews are so great on here. If you want a authentic ethnic meal, this is the real deal; just make sure you have time to wait!

Yelp
I wish there were 6 stars review!! I grew up in Egypt but have been in the US for 20+ years. We recently moved to NY/NJ area and I was looking for something authentically Egyptian and this place is IT!!! My wife is not Egyptian and she LOVED the food. I wish I can say the same about my 10 year old who doesn't like fish, but she had the best buttered linguini in her life (in her own words). The appetizers are 100% authentic and 100% delicious. The eggplant, baba ganoush, salad, and fresh bread were delicious that we had 4 more orders to go. The calamari was fantastic. We had a whole branzino and was the best I had in many years. The Orata (also called Denees, or mediterranean sea bream) was to die for. I wait to go to Egypt every few years to have the whole Denees and this was every bit as good, if not better. The prices are really cheap!! We occasionally have whole fish at Chinese restaurants for $40+ but the most expensive fish here is $17.99. I actually had the same fish in Napa for $40 and wasn't nearly as good. The place is very small and they have few tables. I'm actually shocked they don't have people lined up outside their door (Maybe because it was cold, and rainy December night). The owner is a super nice lady. She does all the work herself (I believe her husband/sister do the cooking) but the wait for the food was not that long. She was very friendly to me and my family and she offered to recommend stuff for us not on the menu next time we come in. I will always look forward to going there again even though it's 30+ miles away. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Yelp
The people working there are lovely and friendly (Egyptians what do you expect). The place is modest but looks great & clean. I came for lunch and ordered, - Babaganouj - Rice with shrimp - Tilapia fish (grilled & fried) The food tastes good I would say 8/10 and value/$ is also good less than 20$/person.

Yelp
My son loves their brown rice. LOVES it. it has onions and very yummy heavy seasoning. Their fried fish and rice special is not only cheap at $5.99 it's really very good Hummus is good as well, though i tend to add more lemon when I get home. Nice owners. Rice pudding is nice as well.

Yelp
After leaving hungry from a double-feature at the lovely Loew's Jersey Theater down the street, I decided to eat in the area before returning to Brooklyn. Trouble is, the Journal Square area is pretty dead around 11 pm. Venture down JFK past a 7-11, a late night New York Fried Chicken and a 24-hour Subway to a little green awning with Arabic writing. Any last minute thoughts about the open diner across the street being a safer bet will pay off after taking a chance on this little hole-in-the-wall. Once inside I was greeted by two veiled women who didn't speak much English, but managed to explain that it was seafood they served. Pick any fresh fish inside their showcase and they would prepare it as you wish. Having lived in Barcelona, I chose the sardines- which I hadn't seen in a restaurant in a while, and the seafood soup with calamari and shrimp. I sat at a table in the corner and crossed my fingers. The place smelled delicious. Aside from two men finishing off their meal with mint teas watching Egyptian television, the place was mine. It starts with a delicious plate of Baba Ganoush and a basket of warm pita. Then the waitress brought out a gorgeous complimentary arabic salad with chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions. My soup came out + it tasted fresh. The sardines came pan fried to perfection along with a plate of brown rice. Everything tasted amazing. An amazing reason not to jump straight into the PATH after the movies. I shut the place down around midnight with a mint tea and rice pudding to go. The two waitresses were all smiles and would not let me pay my tip for some reason. One smiled and said "You'll come back next time." I most certainly will :)

Yelp
When I walked in the door the lady was in the front taking an order on the phone..no Hello, No I'll be with you shortly..nothing.. She hung up the phone ..and continued to do something else... So now its clear.. I'm being ignored...okay Finally she looks up to take my order & takes it as if shes annoyed and doesn't want to. I ask her about the fish wrapped in plastic in the display.. She says the name of the fish so fast & with her thick accent I really couldn't catch on, so a young guy presumably her son had to tell me about the fish & how they come cooked. I ordered the grilled/BBQ fish. It was burnt. Im surprised a place with such POOR customer service could reach this many stars on Yelp. But it seems as thou poor service is given to only certain people..

Yelp
Came back here on thursday for the second time. We brought friends who were very impressed. The grilled fish is amazing Portions are large so we ordered one complete dinner and one only the fish. With that you have more than enough. Fish is cooked from scratch so it takes about 30-40 minutes, which is why it is so so good. Prices and service are good too, which is why we will definitely be back.

Yelp
Great taste. The fish was really good. Except that the rice is little oily, but who cares when it's so good. Take out is the best option. The place is not very clean(tables). Would have given 5 if the place was clean and they were more attentive. As mentioned by one of the reviewers. It's better to call in before 30 mins. That's true. At least 15 mins.

Yelp
Very VERY good fish! I had the grilled bass. SO GOOD! The flavor will knock your socks off! When I ordered my food, I watched the cook take a fresh fish, gut it, clean it and get to work on it. as good as it gets Hummus is also very good. Clean tasting, if that makes sense. Clean like there were 3 ingredients in it. Very tasty And the service was also nice. You order from the front and they bring the food to you, so you do not have waitress, per se. But they would always check in. Only reason it has 4 stars.. It was a very cold day, we were staring at the heater and they did not turn it on. My bf is from New Hampshire, so he knows cold.. he kept his coat on while we ate. (As did I) And I find it odd that you have to pay for water. I guess it is a Jersey thing, but a cup and tap water seems like a nice plus when you go out to eat. I could go back, but in the fall (in case they do not turn on ac) and bring my own bottle of water

Yelp
The food was amazing! We came here on a Saturday night, I ordered the Captain Morgan and Baba Ghanoush, and an extra rice. Everything was delicious, the calamari was my favorite. It was so good, my friends and I came back the next day for another round. I ordered the calamari alone, Baba Ghanoush again, and the fried eggplant. We plan on coming back next time we're in New Jersey. The owner came out himself, and served us tea and made sure our orders were exact. It was a wonderful experience and we felt extremely welcome. Everyone left very happy and very full.

Yelp
This is NOT a very fancy place cheesy decor. But that is not why I'm here. I am here because of the reviews and fish. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Took my cousin to check it out . Ok let me give you a tip , if you want baked or grilled fish expect to wait 30 minutes. We did not have all day so we asked for fried orata fish (Mediterranean fish) and banaganoush . A meal comes with rice and salad . Hold one more tip no beer and you can't bring your own beer.the owner was very strict about having beer in the establishment that sucks. Beer and food just goes together So how was the food ? Very good and filling . The fish huge was simply made and it was what I expected for a whole fried fish. The baba was good comes with warm pita bread The salad was also good and different , never had salad with cilantro and dill in it. By the way the tv blaring everyone talks about not there .. Very quiet Yes I do recommend .

Yelp
I had the most DELICIOUS grilled Sea Bass at this location. Thank God for other Yelpers because this is how I heard or read about this place. Normally there are not many places in Jersey City that I love besides Brownestone (another review) but this is TOTALLY WORTH IT. You can have your fish fried, grilled, baked, etc. There is a wonderful selection. You can choose to eat a whole fish yourself or share with someone. The prices are very reasonable for getting a whole fish. No more than let's say $20 or so. My significant other ordered grilled Branzino which he loved as well. If you look at the picture we devoured our fish, LOL. Along with the food you get rice, baba gonoush and Tahini sauce w/ pita bread. If you can eat all of this by yourself then..... WHOA impressive. I couldn't.... except for my fish which I will continue to get. The seasoning is great and the food is even better for your waistline (except for friend, DUH) LOL.

Yelp
The food here is relatively mediocre and can be pricy; I paid $50 for a meal for two people. The meal did include large shrimp, two plates of shrimp rice, and a fried fish. The shrimp was a bit dry and flavorless. The fish was good but it wasn't enough to fill me or my mother. The rice shrimp is definitely the most flavorful and best aspect of this restaurant. All in all the food is ok and the price may be exorbitant and you may leave hungry still. If I could give a recommendation, however, it's to take home the food and leave it in the fridge. It tastes so much better! Particularly the tahina sauce!
