"Morinoya is precisely the kind of restaurant Victoria’s transitory environment needs — efficient, good-value Japanese cooking which kicks chain competitors, of which there are many in the area, into the long grass. Plentiful bento boxes are the order at lunchtime, with solid tori or tonkatsu and gyoza for dinner." - Josh Barrie

The food was spectacular, we’ve had Japanese food and particularly Katsu curry in many places and this one stands out. Whilst quite small it lends to an intimate atmosphere and the hosting was superb. If you can get a table it’s worth it! 10/10 hope to be back in the future

Cozy and authentic little Japanese restaurant. I've had the most delightful fresh salmon sashimi, big slices, and a fresh salmon poke bowl. They serve fish generously and quite quickly. Green tea came in a beautiful teapot with a serving of about three cups. Nice clean restroom, friendly staff. The quality is great, the prices are considerate, nice atmosphere, quiet lovely music, big windows with a view on the Vauxhall Bridge Road. In my time of waiting enjoyed a book 📖 I highly recommend this place.

My partner and I ate here before going to see Wicked around the corner. The food was absolutely amazing, probably one of the best Japanese meals we’ve ever had. Service was great, and whilst small, the restaurant itself was warm and quiet. We ended up asking for the menu back so we could order more food - it’s that good!

This is a tiny hidden gem down the road from the Apollo Victoria where we were headed to see Wicked. The restaurant only sits about 12 people so book a table or take a chance. With a very fussy 10 year old and a teenager in tow my wife and I were very pleasantly surprised that both boys smashed the food and commented on just how good and fresh it was. Great stop in before a show.

Really solid, decently priced lunch spot. Stopped off here for a bite to eat before meeting a friend. It was a little crowded, as it's only a tiny place, but they offered really good sushi, bento and other japanese classics at a decent price.

What a beautiful hidden gem! It is small & cosy. The food was absolutely fantastic. A range of various flavours, textures and smells. This was an exceptional experience and we will definitely be back soon! Food was phenomenal

Intimate Japanese spot with only a few tables but the menu is amazing. It's the type of Japanese restaurant that every neighbourhood needs- somewhere that can become a regular spot. We had a couple of sushi (negiri) options, and the katsy curry. Each dish was delicious!

Went here last week before the theatre based on reviews and pretty disappointed - not the ‘hidden gem’ someone mentioned. I don’t mind that it’s super cramped and the loo is also not a very nice experience, nor that the staff are pretty nonplused about you, but the food we had wasn’t great… and that’s my pet peev - I wish I had said at the time because my sushi rice was like grey mush with a weird taste. The cuts of fish on the pricy chirashi Don were like the end bits of fish, and in weird scrappy strips. I cut sashimi better. They were layered over the rice to give the appearance of enough fish too - but definitely a merger portion of weird end cuts of fish that were also quite fishy…. As we were rushing to our show I didn’t have it in me to complain - but pretty disappointing…
