"Former Los Angeles Times columnist Frank Shyong visits the Monterey Park restaurant Morning Summit and files a report on his “Lunch Box” Substack. “Morning Summit is not a Taiwanese breakfast place, but it serves Taiwanese breakfast dishes, many of which are northern Chinese dishes,” he writes. Shyong’s closer examination of the complexities behind Taiwanese breakfast is a fun and winding read that may or may not leave readers craving danbing or pork baozi." - Cathy Chaplin

This is one of the closer places I could find 肉夹馍 rou jia mo (Chinese hamburger), so I stopped by and have a try. We just came back from a trip to Xi ‘A which is the birthplace of this food. The taste was ok. They added some chopped green pepper which I don’t think the authentic version has it. The bun is also a bit more burnt compared to the authentic version. Overall not too bad but just don’t expect it’s the original version!

Google
The foods I ordered are tasty! The restaurant is not in a fancy place, but the price is high. Since it’s delicious, 🤤 I think sometimes I will keep ordering from there.

I enjoyed my breakfast visit. Surprised at how good the brown sugar bread was and the freshly made dumplings were. I thought the soy milk was ok, it had either a burnt or beany taste, but drinkable.

This place is lowkey and so legit. We love getting the taiwanese purple rice rolls, pork buns, and hot tea (that tea is a steal ngl). There's enough menu items you can take your time exploring, or eat some tried and trues. Everything tastes made from scratch. Prices are affordable. The servers are so sweet and kind. Like what's not to love?? The majority of customers are Chinese speaking, but we got by fine with English XD Morning Summit is always the perfect way to start your day...arguably best breakfast place in town!

Two of us went in for breakfast during my visit to California around Chinese New Year. It was busy, not really any service. As for food: youtiao and savory soy pudding are just OK to eat, the crepe with fried chip tasted awful, it just turns you off thus we did not finish the foods we ordered. What's worse: a couple of hours later, both of us started to have diarrheas that ran for hours. Neither of us had anything else to eat before and after the breakfast, so it's not hard to determine the cause. Would not dare to go back.

My husband and I came on a Saturday morning. The place is nice and appears to be family owned. As our order was being taken, I see two more groups of people enter the restaurant. The owners/employees speak mandarin and so do many of the patrons, but unfortunately, we do not. So I'm not sure what the screaming was about but there was a lot of shouting by the lady cashier to the cook, server and bus boy. 30 minutes pass and I noticed the two groups that arrive after us had already received their food. And it was the same food we had ordered as well. So I asked the lady how much longer because everyone else has already received their food. She responded in mandarin and I assumed she understood so I sat down. Immediately after, she dropped off the purple rice roll. I wished I could say it was bad to pile on, but it was quite good haha. So we waited another 10 minutes hoping the rest of the items would arrive - it did not. We decided to just pay for the purple rice roll and left hungry. We will not be returning but my advice to you, if you do not speak mandarin, is to have Google translate ready. Hopefully, your experience will be better than ours.

Google
The review is only based on the food taste and quality Made fresh to order so you’ll wait a little bit longer We order number : 16 , 25, 18 and I believe 35 The purple rice roll, the sourkraut beef bun, the pork pan fired buns and another egg roll thing The food was great and hot and was slow to come out The chili oil was more oil then paste texture We came during the soft opening around 11am And it’s a very small operation They do deliveries which overwhelmed them and back up sit down orders A lot of yelling in Cantonese and another dialect There will be a language barrier but they genuinely try to get your order right I will definitely come back to try more of the menu. A lot of folks ordered a lot of different things so overall everyone like the assortment of food they served the only down part was they were overwhelmed with deliveries. Hopefully they can hash this out so they don’t lose dine in customers and about four or five different groups leave and the people that stuck it out got a show a lot of yelling from the front of the house to the chef

Google
the food simply did not taste good. too much msg and salt. soy milk tasted stale. what made the experience worse was the owner’s kids playing and running in the restaurant, and one of the kids non-stop coughing.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast around 830am on a Saturday. Takes credit card and street parking If you like breakfast food from north China or Taiwan, this is the place to try. Portions are big so really good deal My friend and I tried Soy milk unsalted. It's really good. Added a little sugar fir flavor. $3 Lamb and leek steamed buns. Really flavorful. Only $15 for 8 solid sized buns Crunchy rolled Pancake. Interesting mix but good flavors Sausage rolled Pancake is really hearty. For the prices' can't go wrong.

Yelp
10/21/2024 Used to order from Door Dash but stopped due to shotty service from the delivery drivers. My family has ordered from Morning Summit 5 times this year alone. They like the hot soy milk, youtiao, steamed leek pork buns. I like the regular pork buns, I don't usually eat a Chinese breakfast as I'm too Americanized . Staff is friendly and quick with the orders. According to my family the food is high quality and tasty.

Yelp
I love a Taiwanese breakfast spot! This place has a simple but comfy interior to eat, I came sat morning and there were a few customers there already. We for the purple rice roll, salty rice roll, beef pancake with layers (?) , and egg house crepe. I loved the beef pancake here more than other places and will definitely order this again!

Yan W.

Yelp
This is my first time checking out this place in Monterey Park to get breakfast to go. I ordered leek & egg pockets (4 pcs) for $9.49. Chinese leek & egg pockets (or called chives pockets) are pan-fried, semi-circle-shaped, flat dumplings filled with Chinese leek (chives) and scrambled eggs. The portions were reasonable and they had enough leek but the outer layer was not crispy and a bit hard to chew. The service was fast because I ordered by phone so my order was ready for pick up when I got there. The ambiance inside was modern and welcoming. I will give them a second chance and dine in there someday.

Yelp
Morning Summit in Monterey Park is a delightful spot for breakfast and brunch enthusiasts. The café offers a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for starting your day on a positive note. The menu features a great selection of breakfast classics, from fluffy pancakes and hearty omelets to fresh pastries and aromatic coffee. The staff at Morning Summit is attentive and friendly, ensuring that every guest feels right at home. The quality of the food is excellent, with fresh ingredients and generous portions that leave you satisfied. Despite its popularity, the service is efficient, and the wait times are manageable. For anyone in the San Gabriel area looking for a delicious and comforting breakfast or brunch experience, Morning Summit is definitely a must-visit.

Yelp
It is the best purple rice fang tuan and warm soy milk. The people are friendly and fun. I usually street park in front of the shop

Yelp
Saturday breakfast @ 8:30 am - youtiao, house crepe, salty soy milk, soy pudding with traditional sauce Service: attentive, and super polite, way beyond my expectations Ambiance: casual, clean and well-organized. Grade A Price: ok Food quality: unbelievable and nice presentation Must have the crepe. And must try the hot sauce on the table , tasteful and unique Highly recommend

Yelp
Wanted a quick breakfast before our flight and everything in the area didn't open until 11 AM until we found this spot! We ordered a Beijing style soybean paste noodles, purple rice rolls, beef rolls, and pan fried dumplings. I had the noodles and a rice roll and I thought the noodles were delicious. The noodle texture was very Q, however, the paste to noodle ratio was a bit off so it was difficult to mix. The purple rice roll was a great snack, and it had my favorite you tiao (chinese doughnut) and suan cai (pickled mustard greens) inside. A delicious start to the day!

Yelp
Great choice for affordable Taiwanese breakfast! The Rice Rolls and Sauerkraut Beef Biscuits are my go-to. They're hit the spot every time. The service is quick and friendly so you can order takeout and be out in no time. Definitely deserves more attention. There's also usually plenty of seating inside; perfect if you want to sit down and enjoy your meal. Highly recommend giving it a try!

Yelp
Loved their shrimp chow mien. The noodles are handmade and their cold soy milk is freshly made and not that sweet. Egg pancake was decent, the best that I have tasted so far. Xiao long bao was ok, had better elsewhere. Only negative thing I have to say is the dining atmosphere. I'm not sure what system they have for placing customers orders but you can hear the workers at the front yelling to the kitchen in mandarin what orders are being placed and if it was dine in or to go order. It was a constant repeating pattern and you can also hear the workers in the kitchen yelling at each other too. Kitchen lacked structure and organization. Wasn't a pleasant dine in experience and there was no music. Just awkward silence and multiple customers looking towards the kitchen listening to the ruckus. I would still come back but I would get to go. Their parking lot is also very small. Only fits a few cars or you have to find street parking.

Yelp
New Chinese breakfast & lunch shop that opened not too long ago. Their sign says soft opening but it is open for business. I stopped in about 11am and parked in the back. There was construction on Garvey Ave so parking was limited. There are menus on the tables but since I was ordering to take out I just placed my order at the cash register. The lady didn't seem to speak a lot of English so I just pointed to the menu items. I also had to ask to make sure there were not any peanuts in the dishes ordered since we have peanut allergies in my household. She understood my Mandarin, which I'm not fluent in at all. I took pictures of the menu and of the 3 things I ordered, all which were pretty good. The Taiwanese Egg pancake was a little on the salty side but the Pancake Beef roll was good. Thin slices of beef with a hint of hoisin sauce sprinkled with chopped green onion and cilantro. Both had a thin crispy pancake wrapped around the filling. The last thing we tried were the steamed beef and cabbage buns. We really liked the texture of the dough (not too thick or dry) and the filling was moist and plentiful. They also offer pork and lamb fillings and they have pan fried dumplings/bao. So many choices I will have to try different things next time...

Helen T.

Yelp
Clean Taiwanese breakfast restaurant. Card payments are accepted. Food was good, but their soya milk tasted burnt.

Chi L.

Yelp
We were pretty excited to try a new Taiwanese breakfast joint and it turned out to be a big disappointment. The service was friendly but they only speak limited English and mainly mandarin. Luckily the menu had English and we were able to just point to the number we wanted. We ordered the house crepe with crisp bread, juicy pan fried pork bun, and iced soy milk. The house crepe with crisp bread was interesting as we've never had it before but I wouldn't get it again. The iced soy milk was super watery where you can't even taste the richness of the soy. You're better off buying it from the grocery store. After waiting 20mins, the juicy pan fried buns came out and it was raw inside. The pork was literally still mushy and in it's entirely uncooked state. So we flagged it to the waitress and they made us another batch. We waited another 20mins and it STILL came out raw. At this point, we've waited 40mins with nothing to fill our stomachs. After trying twice, we ended up packing the second batch and taking it home to steam. Asides from the friendly service, nothing we've tried was worth the risk of getting food poisoning.

Yelp
My lady is from Tianjin so we have been wanting to try this place. Usually our goto place for Tianjin breakfast is fortune #1 across the street. We ordered soymilk, house crepe (jianbing) with crisp bread, and Taiwanese egg pancake. We agreed that the food does not taste better than across the street. The lady was polite and the service was good. But I'm having pretty bad case of diarrhea hours after eating jianbing. Good thing my lady only took a small bite of it as she ate mostly the egg pancake because she didn't like the crepe. She didn't feel too well but didn't have diarrhea like me. I only ate a banana today prior, so I'm pretty sure it's the crepe. I can usually handle street foods pretty well in other Asian countries, but guess not this place. Lastly, someone on Chinese social media app XHS said this place is owned by the same owner of the Garage... and that place is well known for low quality food.

Beauqui E.

Yelp
Order the spicy beef noodle soup Togo, and it came out very warm when it's delivered. The noodle are separated from the broth, and they put a lot of Szechuan pepper in the shop. Yum!!!

Daniel Y.

Yelp
I almost never write a bad review, but this place deserves a "bad review" for giving both my girlfriend and I diarrhea. The pricing and selection of food are not bad. Portions are a good size. Service is standard. Unfortunately, food quality and taste were mediocre. The soy milk was bland as well. Definitely better options elsewhere. Will not be coming back for brunch.

Kristie H.

Yelp
Solid Chinese breakfast. They really don't make it until you order it. I ordered some lamb baos. I followed them over to the window and watched them roll out the dough for the skin and bao. I ordered tofu pudding, soybean milk, baos, and a Chinese donut wrapped in a crepe.

Tiffany A.

Yelp
Food - 2 stars base on what I ordered Ordered Chinese pancake/crepe with crispy strips & Chinese donut. The Chinese pancake is a classic from Tianjin. It's really big & filling. Everything is good except their sauce isn't for me. Their Chinese donut is a bit burnt for me. Service was good. I called in to place the order. The lady who answered the phone spoke Mandarin with me. She was patient & willing to help me with my order. Picking up the order was easy too. Ambiance The restaurant is clean. I came at 7:30am so there was only one person eating in there, with another person waiting to pick up his food.

Tina L.

Yelp
Nice spot for Taiwanese breakfast place, so many items on the menu I want to try. We ended up with hot soy milk, youteo, crispy pancake, vegan steam bun, and purple rice roll. They are all good, will come back to try the other items.

Juan F.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place while walking on Garvey. Decided to go in for a quick bite. We got their Fan Tuan (Taiwanese Purple Rice Roll), House Crepe with Crispbread and their Soymilk. Their Fan Tuan was much better than Huge Tree in my opinion. It felt less dense and dry and had good flavor - although it was smaller. The House Crepe was solid, but I wish the egg later was thicker. Soymilk was great - would get again. Overall, solid spot for some Taiwanese breakfast.

Sylvia C.

Yelp
Family ordered from here not long ago and i really liked their traditional soy pudding. So I decided to come here to order it again plus a few other items to try. I got the salted soy pudding to compare the differences and to see which is better for future orders. Definitely the traditional style is better..salty sweet sauce with sesame sauce to tone it down. The shan zian bao (steamed pork cabbage bun) was good but thought the white steam but would be a bit thinner at the top. When its overly thick and overly folded, it makes it too tough than it should be. Pork was still juicy but could be better. My child ate 2 in a sitting so I won't complain. The braised beef noodle soup unfortunately was a disappointment. Noodle was abundant but when i scooped the soup...there was literally 2 pc of bokchoy and 2 pc of beef with watered down and barely much flavor soup. There was no zuan cai (preserved vegetables) that usually compliments this included which was an extra bummer. Pictures online shows much more breakfast items. I love supporting mom/pop stores and will return to try more breakfast items perhaps to see if maybe their more popular with breakfast because afterall their name includes morning. Service: the lady employee was super nice and sweet. Said hi to my child and asked if he wanted a candy. They were very respectful and sweet when i was paying. Price: i will say with the increased prices everything, this place is a bit more reasonable. Parking is not great and mainly street parking. Although i never seem to have issues finding any along the street or down a block.

Elena C.

Yelp
Loving the fantuan, a good breakfast item that is fulfilling but won't overwhelm you. And such a nice 'handheld' dish, perfect for on the go. Also tried the lamb and cumin noodles which is pretty good. It's quite strong on the cumins, and comes with a big portion that could easily feed two.

Wendy S.

Yelp
Came back to this place with fam since we were in the area. Service: 1 Star Prices shown on menu were different then what we got charged!?! When asked, the response we got was "we didn't get a chance to update our menu" ...I couldn't believe what I was hearing!?! My family and I won't be coming back to this place!

Trewen W.

Yelp
Came here for some taiwanese breakfast one morning and was quite surprised. It's your a small chinese spot, service was just decent but most of the taiwanese foods we ordered were just alright. Their jianbing or chinese crepe was quite disappointing. The crepe wasn't crispy and the fried donut inside wasn't that crispy either. The taiwanese omelette roll and that was alright but kind of bland. Their soymilk also, was really mediocre. It was nothing we were expecting from the soymilk we've drank from other restaurants (and was really bland, barely any soy bean taste) The only reason why i'm giving them a 3 is that their dumplings are REALLY good. Their dumplings were super juicy. Their taiwanese dishes were alright but their dumplings were great. Chances are we wouldn't come back, but we might just for their dumplings

Aaron W.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast and had a mediocre experience. As for the positives -- the interior is more modern than most Chinese breakfast places; service and prices are reasonable. However, I was disappointed by the food. The jianbing was pretty bland and the youtiao inside was soggy. The purple rice fantuan had lots of flavor, but the rice was extremely wet, creating a strange texture. The youtiao inside was also soggy.

Kimmie L.

Yelp
Was around the area and noticed that this place opened not too long ago. Came by one morning. The wait wasn't too bad. The server was friendly. We ordered salted soy bean milk, pork potsticker, sweet rice roll, beef rolls, and Chinese fried donuts stick. Soy milk was a bit lacking flavors. I like the one from aunti qiu better. The beef roll was pretty good. The sweet roll has too much rice and not really to my liking. It has limited fillings. I had better sweet rolls before. Potstickers we're not too bad. The best dish is the fried donut stick. It was crispy and fried to perfection. Overall not too bad. Can definitely do for quick fix breakfast food!

Yvonne C.

Yelp
Street parking only. Service here is very good. They are super attentive and the food comes out quick. They didn't offer us water or tea though. I think there's only one person here that speaks English, our waiter only spoke mandarin. We ordered a few items on the menu to try.. starting with Taiwanese purple rice roll. It had fried dough inside with those dried pork pieces. First bite was interesting and I ate it but I probably won't order it again. Next up was basically egg pancake hot dog with lettuce and ketchup. It was okay. Noodle soup tasted as expected. Last but not least, the pork and leek bun! Kind of soupy, super fresh and delicious!! The portion was big too! Way too full after.

Alice C.

Yelp
Came here for a breakfast and was out of my expectations. The flavor for the food was just right on. The dishes we ordered were savory. If you like Chinese doughnut, you gotta try it here. It was a huge portion. The wait time was quick. The servers were polite and friendly. Gotta come back for other dishes.

Yelp
Saw a new Taiwanese breakfast place open and decided to try it because it's been a long time since I have been able to travel overseas. This restaurant is newly renovated and the inside is nice and clean with a good airy feeling. There is a case in front by the cashier showing some of the marinated meat, tofu, and organ meats for ordering, and the menu is very comprehensive, with 2 full pages printed front and back on a big laminated 14x11 sheet of paper. We tried the following standards: Purple rice roll - freshly made to order and you can add or subtract any of the standard ingredients in a proper Taiwanese rice roll, like Chinese donut, pork sung, egg, and Chinese sauerkraut, their offering is pretty good, with a good rice chew and subtle flavor complimenting the ingredients Pot sticker - nice presentation in 2 rows of 5 held together by a crispy layer of flour on top, with pork and a whole shrimp inside, delicious flavor and the wrapper is definitely freshly made and not from frozen Egg pancake - their freshly made pancake is very different from any other place which usually uses a thin flour tortilla, this place uses a thicker dough which has a different color and more flaky look, but either way, it is nice with the egg and green onion inside Beef roll - there are a few different versions of beef roll here, but the other ones were sold out so we tried this one, which is the standard sliced beef, sweet sauce, cilantro, and wrapped in a Chinese pancake, there are other versions with Chinese sauerkraut or stuffed in a baked flaky bun, but this is the usual breakfast style and it was good, the beef is delicious and tender, the sweet sauce is not overwhelming and the cilantro gives it a nice subtle touch to offset the sweet sauce and the savory beef The staff is very friendly and you can see some of the ladies working on making more fresh wontons and pot stickers. The chef took a break while we were eating and he was a very friendly looking guy who smiled as we enjoyed the food. When we left he thanked us and our waitress, who was on break eating with the other waitresses actually got up and was going to walk us out but I told her sit and eat and not to worry about us. This is a new business and they asked for reviews and I am glad to help out. Try this place, it's pretty good! The only thing that held me back a bit is that while their menu is big and comprehensive, they are still missing a few Taiwanese standards like the turnip cake with egg and some of the vermicelli or oyster dishes. The menu can also be confusing with many similar sounding items spread out at different places which caused me to ask the waitress what is the difference since it was not very apparent in the description. But the service is pretty top notch and the place is nice and clean. The food is good too, so don't hesitate to try it.

Jason L.

Yelp
My wife and I were craving Taiwanese breakfast and found this place next to all the other legit Asian food so we knew it'd be good! We ordered the beef roll, sauerkraut and beef biscuit, rice roll, Chinese donut crepe, and soy milk. Beef Roll - I'm coming back just for this alone. It was incredible. Very traditional flavors, not too sweet, not too fried, not try-hard like some other places. Sauerkraut and beef biscuit - This wasn't what we expected mainly because it was a cold dish but it was still very delicious. Soft bun, sauerkraut added some nice tang to the beef. Would get this again. Rice roll - traditional flavors, tastes a lot like the flavors I'm used to. A bit heavier on the rice proportions which I don't prefer but good over all! Chinese donut crepe - this was a bit too salty and was just okay. Not a highlight. The staff was all super friendly, attentive, the food came out very quickly, and the prices were very cheap. Will definitely be coming back!

Phoua T.

Yelp
My bf and i came here for breakfast. The food was solemnly okay. I would say the fried and steamed dumbly is probably the best dish they have. The service was okay as well. If you speak chinese, then that's a plus. English is so so, just have to communicate by pointing at the menu. The ambiance was dry. No music, just quietness and hearing people eat, so it made us feel like we should keep it low as well.

Allen S.

Yelp
There may be some good things to order here. But the congee is not it. It's not the good stuff, a water-based bowl of liquidy grain.

Evelyn C.

Yelp
First time here and wanted to support local family-owned business. We ordered noodles, rice balls, beef roll pancakes, and leek box. The food, service and the dining environment is your average Chinese restaurants, so no surprises good or bad. The portion of the food is a bit unsatisfying, hence made the prices seem a bit higher than it should be. Overall, the experience is average, but I am likely to visit if I want some Chinese breakfast items without waiting in a long line in other places.

J G.

Yelp
Yes, clean and nice environment. The more importantly the food and service. We were seated right away since we were there early in the morning around 9am. I usually go to the Garage or Big Tree but I wanted to give this new place a try. These others are not known for cleanliness or it's decor. But their Salty Do Jian is mostly pretty good, although Garage is not as consistent as Big Tree. I ordered my usual Salty Do Jian, salty soy pudding jian and Oily donuts and later, their meat pie. When the soy Do Jian arrived, it was watery and tasteless. Maybe that's because your supposed to add you own vinegar to curdled the soy and salt to taste? Guess some people may like that, but I wasn't too impressed. I don't mind adding more salt but to having to curdle my own soy milk too? At least the soy pudding was done right. We generally mix the two soy together to get the thicker soup and more flavor. Their oily donut was hot and crispy and chewy, perfect. The beef roll was also very good. So, we decided on ordering the meat pie, which we weren't sure if it's like the Bejing meat pie, for $15. Unfortunately it is not those Bejing Pies that I love. It more like two scallion pancake and mixed meat in between. Nothing I would want to order again. Overall, it not bad but needs so areas of improvements. The service was good, except when she was completely distracted by a vendor for 10 minutes, that she couldn't hear us calling out to her. Remember the restaurant is small and there wasn't much people inside. We'll have to come back to try the dumplings and other stuff.

Wing C.

Yelp
So much better than The Huge Tree. Foods were delicious and service was so welcoming and friendly. Extensive menu - something for everyone including my two babies! Plenty of seatings but this place does get super busy. So come early!

Rosa C.

Yelp
Delicious homemade buns and potstickers. Worth coming to and will return for the buns if in the area. They are freshly made and steamed once you place your order and very juicy and tasty. Lamb is must order if you like lamb.

Ethan Y.

Yelp
可能是做得不干净,我吃了一份煎饼果子以后拉肚子拉了一天了,上次这么严重还是回国那次,真的太扯了,铁胃可以去试一下,我是告辞了 Maybe the food was not made clean enough, I ate a Jian Bing Guo Zi and got a terrible diarrhea right after. I've been sh-tting for a whole day and I'm still sitting on the toilet now. If you decide to go, be prepared, watch out for your stomach health.

Bim V.

Yelp
Wonderfully delicious pork buns and beef rolls for take out! The rolls were comparable to Joy's thousand layer pancake in Highland Park. I arrived a little after 9am on a Thursday morning for a quick Taiwanese breakfast pick me up that was worth the drive southbound from Pasadena. This restaurant is as authentic as it gets. With a slight language barrier, the service was still excellent. The servers were attentive and friendly with customers. I sat back and enjoyed the vibrance and ambiance of the new restaurant-- the furniture contemporary in design, displaying the "wishbone chair" aesthetic. I was kindly served water in a styrofoam cup during the 15-20min wait for my order. Recommend to call in any orders prior to pick-up for optimal time savings. This place seemed to be gaining popularity with the locals. Fantuan Deliver app orders were flooding in as the servers welcomed their customers. Of those dining in, many appeared to have ordered what looked like duck eggs (almost BALUT-like in appearance) with a side of soup and donut sticks. Soya milk seemed to be an essential choice at this restaurant as well. I will definitely have to come back to try these star items soon!

Doug C.

Yelp
I was driving by and decided to try place. I've been looking for a good dumpling house since Ming Wa closed. (iykyk) I really liked that they made it fresh. (I was watching them from the side) Their steamed Pork and Cabbage dumplings are on point as well as their Pork and Cabbage potstickers. Their customer service is great. At least for me, it was. Anyways, I'll definitely be back.

Priscilla T.

Yelp
Love love this little place. It fills my desire to go to TianJin . It is as good as it can get! I will try more dishes next time if I am not stuck by ordering the same thing again and again. As far as the service goes, they are sweet people... a bit too loud, but I understand

Judy C.

Yelp
Their food is just so good! I got their beef onion steamed bun which was so flavorful! The onion was still really crunchy (still cooked) and it was so juicy when I bit into it. I also got their mushroom bok choy steamed bun too which was also really yummy and flavorful. Everything inside was diced well. I can't decide which steam buns one I like more! I also got that purple rice roll which was amazingly good. I have never had it before so I can't compare it to others. It has the chinese donut, the dry shredded pork, and a little pickle veggies in there. I am in love with this roll. I also got their Beijing Style Noodle with Soy Bean which is basically Black Bean Noodle (Jjajangmen in Korean). This is the best Chinese version that I have in the SGV. It has fried pork, actual black bean and its sauce, shredded veggies (carrots, cucumbers), and bean sprouts. This was mine and my husband's favorite. I am definitely coming back here and hope to try other stuff on their menu. The other thing I wish they had was more veggie based side dishes like cucumbers. I'm the type of person that loves having pickle veggies on the side.

Yelp
Their salty donut(油条)was pretty fresh and good. But their salty tofu(豆腐脑)had too much liquid compared to the ingredients. jiangbing(馅饼) was not that great in my opinion, but maybe that's just me.. cuz of the choice of sauce by the restaurant..

Yelp
Their steamed buns are sooooo good. Super juicy. Highly recommend the lamb and cabbage. Don't forget to get the beef roll too!

Yelp
Meat buns were nice and soft, with a good amount of soup/juice in them. You tiao were freshly fried, light and crispy. They paired well with the soy milk, which was a bit thin. The purple rice roll was moist and fresh, with a good amount of filling, but was also a tad sweet.

Yelp
It's a bit sparse; no music, but you could say calm. Very authentic food, good serving size, and one of the best beef rolls I've ever had, and I've visited Taiwan several times. Just the right amount of sauce, chewy yet crispy wrapping, and well seasoned beef, I highly recommend. The only reason I don't give five stars is that English seems a bit of an afterthought; there are several confusingly vague menu items ("fried dough"), and if you don't know what you're looking for you might be a bit confused. That having been said, the staff is friendly, and there tends to be at least one fluent English speaker on staff.:D TLDR; great food, friendly staff, not perfectly English friendly. Yet!

Yelp
I tried a few things on my first visit and will definitely come back! With the concentration of similar restaurants in the SGV, this place stands out to me because the texture and dough of everything is really nice: chewy, soft and not too thick. The potsticker filling is flavorful and juicy but not bursting and messy. The "bun" on the sauerkraut sandwich is flaky and the filling was not dry, so yummy with the pickled mustard greens. Also tried the soybean milk and it's different from other places. It tasted a tad smoky and a little funky (like stinky tofu) in a good way. All the staff are really friendly. You get a good family run business vibe here.

Yelp
Been looking for an authentic dou jiang you tiao spot in the SGV for a while now and finally found it! This place is sooo good!! They even make their own dou jiang in-house! Their service is surprisingly good. Highly recommend!
