Morrone's Water Ice

I recently had the pleasure of trying Marrone's and wow, was I impressed! I ordered the passionfruit water rice and the pizza pretzel, and let me tell you, it was hands down the best pizza I've ever had. The flavor were incredible, and the unique twist on a classic made it unforgettable. The atmosphere can be lit, especially in the summertime, which really adds to the experience. Even though I had to wait a little bit for my food, it was absolutely worth it. Each bite truly made my day, and I can't wait to go back for more! If you’re a water life and pizza pretzel lover, Marrone's should definitely be at the top of your list!

The establishment is great. Didn’t try any hot foods but had ice cream and water ice for four people. Everything was delicious and a great value. they can’t have a location so it’s a walk up and it’s in the hut so whatever comes along with that is what it is, but the folks inside everything looks to be very clean. They are very professional, very courteous. That’s definitely our new spot.

What people don't know about this location, the use expired food items that they sell and they do not clean their area, which they make water ice ice cream and pretzels at expired, hot dog packs. And they're beef patties as well sneeze and cough all over the water.Ice and people do not know that of course.I know that I am a good friend of a person that used to work for them

Love their water ice as well as their butter pecan ice cream. It is literally the best ice cream I have had. Good funnel cake. Not a fan of their cheese pretzels

Reminds me of snow cone places back home! Snack options and I love the water ice options and flavors! I can’t remember which flavors I had, it was guava and 2 others. DIVINE! Super nice staff too! However, I’ll pass on the pizza pretzels. I’m not from here, so keep that in mind. Would go back either way.

I'm 61 years old, and I lived on South Robinson Street in the 1970s, and Morrone's water ice truck use pull up and park on the corner of South Robinson Street! Friendly driver, great water ice, and fresh pretzels! Water 😋 🥨

The gelatis have me in a chokehold. The staff is quick and friendly. The customers are kind to one another in forming a line and ordering. 100% recommend! This is a cotton candy/passionfruit in medium and then a blueberry in a small. Also enjoyed the grape, will try more flavors!

This place is hopping! Catch it when there's not much of a line and you're in for a treat. We had a mix of tropical flavors that were sweet and refreshing.

Grew up on this place and I'm glad to see they've still got it! Stopped by late night before closing not too long ago and grabbed me a classic cherry water ice and a cheese pretzel--Talk about nostalgia!!! One of the best places to get water ice in west Philly.

This is not the Morrone's of yesteryear. My father and his brothers all used to operate water ice trucks under the original John Morrone Sr. Me and my cousins used to run all up inside of the building: watching the water ice being made, helping out at the window and on our parent's trucks. The treats were wonderful!! Apparently, Mr. Morrone and his son decided to retire to Aruba and sell water ice there. These new people who own it have the made the water ice something else. You don't get what you pay for and the portions are smaller. There is NO way a banana boat should be $7. My dad and I visited on our way back to his. We stopped because I wanted a pretzel with cheese, spicy mustard and salt. It cost $1.75 The kid behind the counter was going to put my pretzel in the microwave. I had to stop him from ruining the pretzel. The cheese to spicy mustard to salt ratio was way off. I had to reach behind the window to add more spicy mustard and salt. The prices are not what they used to be (I know EVERYTHING costs more), but you're not getting a lot for the high price. If I'm going to be paying through the nose, then the product should be just as quality. Also... please stop using those supermarket plastic cups for the water ice. Mr. Morrone actually had cups with the business name on it. I'm not sure if I would return. Maybe ‍

Morrone's is that old school, neighborhood water ice spot that screams West Philly, when you think of West Philly you basically think of Morrone's water ice! I love that their prices are super reasonable you can definitely get you a water ice and a pretzel for under 5.00 They also sell milkshakes, banana splits gelatos and funnel cakes. My nephew enjoyed his vanilla ice cream with sprinkles. So if your ever in the West Philly area check this place out, perfect for the kids or if you just want to have some dessert or a snack. Come to Morrone's and get you a mango or piña colada water ice with a pretzel on the side!

Purchase: Small, fruit punch water ice Price: $1 Opinions & comments: At first I did not know what to expect, but all I can say is this place is GREAT! The texture of the water ice was very smooth, almost like ice cream but not creamy. The fruit punch flavor was not overly sweet and the size small was only $1. That's at least 3 scoops. You can't go wrong!

This place was good when I was a kid and just as good as an adult. The water ice there is no comparison. And the pretzels were awesome. They come without salt so you easily add them since they have salt available. This is now a must stop every time I come to Philly. If you haven't stopped here I don't know what's holding you back. Just go, forget your diet and enjoy life.

Cherry Water ice and Mango Water ice was horrible. Tasted like a bad syrup used for Cherry. Bad after taste ! Not The Old Morrone's from back in The Day !

What can I say about Marrones other than the fact that it is a hidden gem. It is a Philly staple and we are lucky to have it close by. The line can get long, but worth it!

They are extremely flavorful, and very well priced. They also sell a lot of extras like pretzels and hot dogs. It's definitely worth seeking out on a hot day.

This is a "around the way" spot, I've have been coming here since I was a child. Management has changed since then, but the product remains consistent. The employees are always kind and if the sun is shinning bright they are open. On hot days the line can be pretty long and there is a considerable wait. They have all the typical waterice flavors, soft served ice cream , pretzels and other carnival foods.

So glad that Morrone's was represented at the Red Ball and that I got to try a little bit of heaven. This was the best water ice that I have ever had - by far! I wasn't sure by their branding if it is called Mr D's or Morrone's but according to this it is Morrone's. I was looking them up since I need to know where I can get more of this delicious water ice. I was able to try several flavors at the Red Cross Red Ball and with a whole slew of deserts from several different vendors at the Red Ball this was the one and only that i kept coming back to. On top of it all of the employees there were super friendly. According to the business card that I just found they do catering, block parties and cook outs! I wish I was throwing a big summer party just so that I could hire them! They even have water ice with alcohol -what more can I say! Thank you Morrone's!

My first time in Philly visiting my husbands hometown. This is the best dessert I have tried in a very long time. I found myself going every day while we were there. I've yet to try all the flavors. The ones I have tried are so good! The gelati is the best!! Can't wait to go back!

I can't believe Morrone's (pronounced MORE-O-KNEES) hasn't been reviewed yet. The overall brand used to have more presence in West Philly, but I guess times are changing. I think there were at least 2 more locations not to mention the trucks. This was before every Puerto Rican corner store had water ice. I'm glad this spot is still open though. It was my favorite as a child. Of all the flavors I've had here (cherry, grape, lemon, blueberry, lime, to name a few) I don't think I've found anywhere else that has "Tutti Frutti." Although it's seasonal, Morrone's serves as a good snapshot in time of the old West Philly neighborhood (even though 63rd st is more of a borderline). I really do have fond memories of this place though. My relationship with my father turned sour a long time ago, but in the early years when we hung out as father and son this was one place I could ask him to take me and he wouldn't refuse. He wasn't too keen on rewards. Many years later we are on much better terms, I wonder how nostalgic it would be for us to come back here together.

Pretty good water ice. Super cheap prices and large portions. The location is out of the way and the neighborhood didn't seem very good.

Morrone's is old school West Philly Water Ice. It was bomb back in the day. And it remains that way. I don't care where you are in the city, it's worth a trip to 63rd Street. Old School Water Ice in old School West Philly! Philly J

Mmmmmm!! Cherry vanilla. All the flavors especially the classics are wonderful. Chocolate, lemon with little pieces of rind. Great soft pretzels. Sketchy neighborhood but all good in the daylight.

I'm from DC and enjoy this place. I come here all the time when I visit. My mom from here and when we come back and visit and since I was a kid I love this place. Super cheap prices. The water ice is banging.

LOVE THIS PLACE! So glad I live right down the street so I can enjoy all spring and summer. I will be going on my way home with my daughter today.

I used to love Morrones, when they were run by the original owners.today the new owners showed a side that the original owners would have never don. My elderly wheelchair bound handicapped mother requested an ice cream cone and asked to have it put in a cup so it wouldn't melt on the way home. When they handed it to her grandson after taking the money from him, it had no cone. When asked where is the cone they replied we don't do that. She requested her money back because she would not be able to eat it on the way home, they replied no. She gave them back the cup and they refused to return the money. If you knew you don't do orders like that you should have never taken the money or you should have said that when the order was given. Then to get down right nasty belligerent is ridiculous. I most definitely will be reporting them to the people who handle cruelty and misconduct towards the elderly and disabled. Shame on you Morrones, treating the elderly and disabled as if they mean nothing, their patronage helps keep your store open just like everyone else who purchases anything from your store. She could have been your mother or grandmother standing in a line being disrespected.
