Delicious amazing vibes cafe. Went there on a Wednesday morning, was packed! The food is generally great and they have a super unique and healthy main menu. Also very yummy pastries. The honey butter biscuit muffin is unbelievable. They hacked the muffin game with this, the way they cook it hard crunch and sweet outside with a soft inside, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and tasting! I also got the shakshuka, pretty standard and tasty. For the ambiance, they charge. But it’s worth it. 8.9/10

One of my favorite restaurants! I am in love with the respect and care shown to the farm-to-table ingredients. Props to whoever plans the menu, sources the ingredients, and writes the recipes. Homemade southern biscuit is excellent! And where else have you seen a kosher restaurant that offers soft scrambled eggs? (If you know of somewhere please tell me, I want to try those too :) My compliments to the chef who pulls it off. Amazing! Best casual kosher cafe in NYC (and maybe anywhere). Super fast/convenient to drive from Manhattan with its own parking lot. Dishes are impeccable, fresh and wholesome and service is included. The staff is exceptionally nice (shout out to Marin especially) and manages the crowds impressively.

Great,creamy coffee and medialunas are freshly baked daily. Dulce de Leche croissant was also delicious.

I love Moss, and it’s one of the best coffee and bakery spots in the area. The service for dining in can be on and off, especially in the afternoon. The biggest disappointment, though, is that recently, their baked goods became much smaller (croissants, honey biscuits, etc); they also changed their coffee roast because it doesn't taste as good anymore. Please bring back your delicious coffee and old sizing for baked items😩

Vegan eats review: Bibimbap Veganized Flavorful. Just the right amount of kick that enhances the flavor but doesn’t leave your lips on fire. Pickles cucumbers and the wafer thin sweet potatoes hit the spot. Love Moss for their fried and true vegan options and how they strive to have a new dish or two that are veganizeable. Always busy and crowded but turn around is fair for a table. On warm days there are also tables outdoors. This isn’t a rush eats place though so give yourself time to order, receive your eats, and savor the well thought out ingredients (locally sourced).

Pretty legit cafe. Beans are well sourced from an established roaster. Food is absolutely amazing. Their croissant sandwich is to die for. Staff is super friendly and really cool. Can't recommend enough.

My favorite cafe in Riverdale! I don't believe I've ordered anything that I have not liked. Good luck getting your hands on one of their biscuits! The almond croissant is probably just as good. They have one of the best salmon burgers I've ever had. They also have an egg sandwich that's to die for. The place is small so not much dining sit down area but the staff is super friendly and in the summer time you can sit outdoors. The perfect local cafe!!!

Came to Moss after eyeing it for some time! Pretty busy on a Monday morning (of course) but there was plenty of parking. The tables inside were definitely packed so to go it is. Staff was friendly, I was looking for a somewhat sweet iced coffee drink and she recommended the pumpkin spice latte. Iced pumpkin spice latte wasn't too sweet which was good. The chocolate croissant was tasty although I do wish I was given an option to warm it up. This cafe is definitely on the pricey end (paid $13) but normal for the Riverdale area. My drink was about the size of a tall Starbucks drink. Final thoughts : Bright, dainty and cozy place to catch up with one or two friends over coffee as the space is small. If you're around the area in search for a local coffee and don't mind paying extra, give this place a try. Cheers!

Cute little bakery in Riverdale. I love their baked goods, they have a few different things every week but the honey butter biscuits are definitely my favorite. They make coffee, smoothies and other food as well.

Very good food and pleasant cafe atmosphere. Food is fresh and very well prepared. The servers are wonderful. I just wish they had a bigger space.

Easy solid four or maybe more if they weren't so uncomfortably busy. ....but it made for good sport, listening-in effortlessly on others' conversations instead of competing with my own. Otherwise, was okay, alright. I really enjoyed the avocado toast here and thought the hospitality, though rushed, was nice. Also dug the whole locally sourced thing they've got going on. Coffee was really good.

The food is excellent, the ambiance sublime, and the employees are super friendly. I am a chef by profession, from Germany, the land of kartoffelsalat, and their potato salad is so good. Artistically decorated. Even the bathrooms are lovely. A lovely cafe and I will come back.

Cozy and chic neighborhood coffee shop serving salads, sandwiches, pastries, and all sorts of good stuff. Plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Ingredients are locally sourced. Their menu is diverse; they even sell Bahm mi and shakshuka. I only tried the avocado toast and it was delicious! 4 stars.

Such a great spot!! We aren't typically in the Bronx but have wanted to check this place out so when we were heading to the NY Botanical Gardens, we thought it would be the perfect time - and I'm so glad we did. I got the avocado toast which was super flavorful (loved the spices they put on it) and my husband got the yogurt and granola (he said it was great). The absolute best thing we got was the pastry (WOW), top 5 pastries I've ever had. We liked it so much that after we finished our meal we decided to try another, this time we went with the chocolate chip banana muffin (perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside). Would make the trek just for the pastries alone! Also, we went on Valentines Day and they gave everyone a rose which was really sweet. The service was also super speedy!

Pretty bad cafe in Riverdale. They charge $1 for refill coffee, which is pretty odd. They offer bibimbap but it's so inauthentic. We asked for over easy but the egg was completely over cooked.

Had passed this many times and never had a chance to eat. Tried the new Johnson Diner but it had a half hour wait so came here instead. Absolutely the right choice. Rose Latte was stunning with great form art as the barista is clearly exceptionally talented. Shakshuka was beyond delicious including amazing pita. Love the vegan, veg, pesce options and locally sourced food. What a great find--such intentional community building in food choices and the vibe.

SERIOUSLY delicious food and sweet attentive service. Our first visit, and everything was fresh, colorful, creative, and so nicely seasoned that I (who live for big flavors) didn't reach for the salt shaker or the hot sauce. My wife had an omelet that was full of veggies and colorful, also GF toast: she's a discerning eater but she delighted in every bite. (And bright-red iced hibiscus tea.) I chose the soup of the day, a roasted eggplant puree with tomato, feta, sunflower seeds -- a meal in a bowl -- and the seasonal pizza on socca (GF) crust, which had spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, feta, ricotta, and kalamata olives. My first experience with socca, and it was lovely. Also a delicious cafe au lait. Five stars? Hell, no. Fifty stars. Very clean place and very gracious service. We will be back. But now we are both full, so . . . .

First time getting take out from here. I ordered the gazpacho and the side salad. My friend got the shakshuka.I thought the gazpacho was quite tasty and had some crunchy veggies in it. The side salad was fine. My friend found the shakshuka pretty average. Prices are a tad high but I would give it another try when I'm in town. On a separate visit I had my iced decaf mocha no ice here. It was quite good. The staff were very accommodating.

The servers were not friendly or helpful. Tables were never cleaned between diners (observed 4 tables not get cleaned prior to allowing new customers to sit). The coffee was cold and tasted burnt, and they gave me dirty silverware for my coffee. The only reason I did not give them one star is because the French Toast was good.

Great coffee and lattes, I believe blend is Stumptown. Pastries are consistently good, not sure if they make them on site or who the bakery is. Try the plum or plum and cream danish. Moss egg sandwich is possibly the best egg sandwich I have had in NYC. It includes some kind of sweet pickle in the sandwich which makes it perfect, plus a partly runny egg. Service is quick. You can call ahead. There is a bathroom and self-serve water with cups. I believe gratuity is included, which is nice and makes the transaction less stressful. Closed Saturdays. Usually very busy on weekends and sometimes busy weekdays brunch/lunch hours too.

Friendly service. Good coffee...and there is free parking. Lol. Pretty busy on a Tuesday at 10am. So I take it other people are fans too

I've been going to Moss Cafe since it opened and love it. The place is always full and the ambiance is homey. All the food is fresh and tasty, and it's really unique in Riverdale for the kind of farm-to-table food it serves. Absolutely get the chocolate chip muffin, I always crave it.

Busy place. Simple decor. Nice vibe. Good for dates. Not good for large groups as table space is limited.

The food and service at Moss are simply unparalleled. You can walk in with full confidence that whatever you order will be the most delicious thing you will eat that day (usually that week). NYC is so lucky to have this amazing institution! Fresh, delicious, quality, creative feel-good taste-better food!

This restaurant was amazing! The food was so fresh and tasty. It was an expensive brunch but worth every penny! The cold beet soup was refreshing on a hot summer day. The drinks were tasty too. I'm still thinking about my amazing field fresh salad with salmon. Can't wait to go back!

I've been here twice so far. Staff is SUPER rude to customers and lazy to bus the tables so we can sit down and eat. They gave us an attitude when we asked the table to be cleaned. The food took over 30 mins for an egg sandwich ($18). My vegan friend asked the staff if they could use different tongs to grab vegan/gluten free pastry and they retorted back that every pastry here is cross containmented... Rude. The food is overpriced. The coffee is subpar. You are better off going to Riverdale diner for food or Starbucks for coffee. Would never recommend anyone to eat here.

Polite and quick customer service. It was quite busy but that's how you know it's good. The place looked really cute and cozy outside and in. There was plenty of seating on the inside, and it appeared to be very clean and well maintained. I got the "Vietnamese Iced Coffee" not only was it very aesthetically pleasing on the outside, but it tasted great!!! The pricing was reasonable too. I would definitely recommend this place!!!

This was the place that changed my entire expectation of a nova sandwich from here out. Try it & you'll see what I mean. My food ("LGBTQ Sandwich") as it's called, was freshly seasoned & cook to perfection with a little salad that was refreshing & paired well. The establishment is very clean & staff is diverse and courteous - especially Sam. Only cona is the 3PM closing time & pricey. I see a few others felt the same. Maybe owners will consider adjusting the price a bit so more of us Bronxnites come to know Moss Cafe & those of it who know it can frequent it more.

Moss Cafe is just GREAT! Fresh food-local ingredients, clean variety--always changing it up and offering organic recipes with a twist---that is lovely. Full expresso bar. I just love this Cafe. The Staff? Great Team. My favorite is the hummus salad, the yogurt, and the rye and pistachio cookie...LOL

Moss Cafe screams chic like no other! Place is decked out in whites, creams and natural light up front. Plus it feels beachy, clean, but earthy all at once. There isn't much space to waltz around- but great use of the space, makes it cozy. With that being the case, Moss created a style all their own in Riverdale. I've had Moss mentally Bookmarked for a while- as I'm rarely on this side of The Bronx. But since I was in the nabe, couldn't skip it. By the way, you can't kill too many hours on your laptop here- but there's a designated time slot if you wanna power up. This is such an awesome cafe for many reasons. I mean...not only is style intact- but food is equally gorgeous to look at. FYI, there's no Poultry and Beef on the menu. And no pork either- as Moss Café is kosher. I'm happy with all that!!! At least 98% of their Menu is Vegetarian, with a couple of Fish dishes. However I'm sure you can customize any dish and make it Vegan. Weekday Menu is broken from 8am-3pm/3-5pm, Dinner 5-9pm, with Sunday Brunch and Drinks. Walk right to the counter and order up. Hot or Iced Beverages are listed on large butcher paper and menus are on clipboards. Menu looks fabulous and decided on the Sourdough open-faced sandwich with Ricotta, Strawberry Jam, topped with Pistachios and a dusting of Cinnamon. Simple and Beautiful! Afhgani Chai to start was what I needed at the moment. And when I saw a Hot Chocolate on the menu, it just took those 7 little words, "how do you make your Hot Chocolate?" When Tess said, "...Chocolate Ganache"......I was sold. Plus- I can never pass up on an opportunity to taste Hot Chocolate. I knew I had to hit Moss when I was in the area. Attention to detail goes above and beyond - plus service was so nice. I enjoyed both my light meal and hot Beverages. Owners here have everything down to a Science- even with the soft 'Chill' Music in the background. One thing's for sure......there's no shortage of endless bites and charming style.

This cafe should be called the "no" cafe. Can you do an egg white omelette? NO Can you warm up the Challa bread? NO (Yet there's a full kitchen in back where they make hot food) Can you turn up heat? NO (freezing!) Could do much bettter. Won't come back

Nice breakfast place with many healthy options. You can get vegan food if you want. They have indoor and outdoor seating. You get food pretty quickly after ordering. Overall a nice healthy place in the Bronx. Definitely would recommend for breakfast. Price is reasonable as well.

Small little cafe/lunch that was recommended to me by a coworker. It is a place you can not only get a coffee but also have lunch. They dont have many tables but it usually isnt too crowded not to fins space. They have a sign that says no laptops but I dont think they strictly enforce it so that is a good thing. Probably when it gets very busy they start cracking down. I started with the chocolate croissant and honestly it wasnt my favorite. It wasnt bad but I dont think any chocolate croissant is bad. It was very average. Nothing stood out to me about it. For my meal I had the veggie rice bowl and it was good. It wasnt the biggest portion but I expected that. It had the perfect mix of veggies and dressing (tahini). All ingredients worked well and I left feeling healthy and satisfied. They also have wifi if you need it which is pretty standard for a cafe but certain wifi works better than others. The service was solid and I enjoyed my time here. I would definitely come back to try the other things on the menu.

Overpriced. It took 40 minutes to prepare my food. The food was lackluster (an unremarkable "adult grilled cheese" and a pitiful kimchi fried rice special that's nothing like the real stuff). Front of house staff wasn't friendly and spent too much time chatting between themselves, while one of them was glued to the iPhone, despite a line that grew and grew all the way to the front door. This was my first and last time patronizing this cafe.

Worst service. Waited so long and never got my food. I had to ask after waiting half an hour. They only serve the white people first. If you're not white from riverdale please don't go here.

Yummy good quality food, croissants from here are a must. Egg breakfast sandwhiches are so yummy. They're always veryyy busy but it's because it's worth the wait!

I have been smitten by Moss. Split pea soup was so good one bowl wasn't adequate. Server was polite and attentive. Prices were fair and nothing we ordered was left uneaten. Came back two days later and just as good. Traveled to NY from Dallas and so highly recommend this kosher restaurant. Will come back.

This cafe is the real deal of farm to table. Everything looks and tastes fresh and delicious. They have some seating outside and they operate as to-go at this time. The proportions were a bit small for the price, especially for the drinks. But if you like healthy foods, especially a vegetarian diet, give this place a try.

One of my colleagues lives in Riverdale, and since we have been meaning to get together and catch up for a while she suggested we try here. I'm not too familiar with this area but I have tried a couple of the restaurants. Moss Cafe escaped me however, but looking over the menu and Yelp page it looked really innovative so I was excited to try. As the name may suggest, Moss Cafe serves raw/plant-based foods. They're also certified Kosher which is definitely a plus in this area of the Bronx. The space isn't large - there are a few tables throughout the dining area and a back counter as well. The decor is simple but tasteful - mostly white walls with plant and moss accents throughout. There are no meat products on the menu, though I must say they do have a good variety of items and are really creative with the preparation and presentation. We all started with some sake lemonade. It tasted more like sake than lemonade but I enjoyed it. For food, I decided to start with the gazpacho. This was one of the more smooth gazpachos I've had, but the flavor was pretty good - not the best I've had but not the worst. For my main I had the summer panini which contained goat cheese (YES), corn salad, tomato, and basil all pressed on focaccia. The sandwich was good, there was lots of goat cheese which definitely the best part and pretty much tied the sandwich together. It was served with a multi-grain salad on the side which was also good. Service was good, our waitress was friendly and really attentive which was great. Overall I had a good meal at Moss - it's definitely not for everyone, but it's a new, innovative place which I'm always a fan of. I would definitely come back - perhaps to explore their brunch offerings.

Nice quaint cafe. A bit pricey but pretty standard for riverdale. If I were a vegetarian, I'd bump up the review to 4 stars. But as a carnivore, i give Moss a solid 3. Got the Shakshuka, which i always get where available. Unfortunately, for me missing the rich meaty taste infused in the tomato. The veggies couldn't replace that. Otherwise fine. Pretty filling and bread was fresh and tasty. Friend tried the veggie pizza special (would not recommend) Overall: Ok for vegeterian places I guess

If you are not Kosher, may as well cross the street to Starbucks. We didn't like anything on the menu so ordered coffee and cake. They don't serve decaf coffee but serve decaf cappuccino. What???? Cappuccino was served in a to go cup because their mugs were all dirty. Smallest darn cappuccino in the world, which they say is 6oz. Really ... 3 sips ... this Italian ain't buying it. I laughed all the way home and then made myself lunch!

THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE!!! Stay away!!! They make no accommodations for anyone !! Even if you ask for something very simple. Rude staff and horrible food

This place is little bit overrated and extremely overpriced. I got a cup of coffee for 5$ just regular coffee that really tasted like water! When I told the barista it taste like water, she was like yea that's a drip coffee that's how it is, if you want stronger coffee you can buy an espresso?! Also, I ordered shakshuka which costed around 20$ and ended up super tiny plate with undercooked eggs. Anyways! I think bottom line, I wouldn't recommend their regular coffee and their shakshuka at least. Otherwise you can try but keep in mind you will probably pay extra money than other similar places!

I love this place. Avocado toast - Generous amount of avocado with lemon, red onions, chili flakes over large piece of toast. Pay $2 extra for a farm egg. I would have liked it better if the egg was poached, but overall a very delicious dish. I'll probably get this every time I have a craving for avocado toast. Its just a piece of toast, but the dish left me filling full. I also got a cup of their carrot coconut soup, and it was so perfect for the cold weather. It reminded me of some familiar Indian would highly recommend anyone visiting the area to try a cup Shakshuka stew - my sis ordered as a dairy free option, however, they forgot about the request and added the feta cheese to the stew as well as butter to the toast. They were really apologetic about it and remade the order. In addition, they gave us a free sample of vegan applesauce loaf, which tasted like Christmas in my mouth! So moist and flavorful! It takes about 20 minutes for the stew to be made, so we waited about 30-40 minutes for the correct order to come out. By the time it came out, we were both full from my avocado toast and carrot coconut soup, that we barely had room for the shakshuka. The Shakshuka is served in a cast iron skillet, served with kale, potato, 2 eggs, and tomato sauce. I thought it was ok but it was not my favorite. I'd prefer not to give 3 stars but unfortunately the food did not meet expectations. The place has a great cafe feel though very busy on Sunday. A bit cramped for my liking but speaks to being a much enjoyed place. They serve kosher food and provide a ritual hand washing station. Place was clean, including tables and floors despite being very busy. The staff were friendly and seemed to be having a good time. I ordered take out and it took about 30min. Their online ordering system was easy to use. To the food. I ordered off the Sunday brunch menus. I ordered their butternut squash sandwich, the Autumn panini $15. The taste was delicious! The portion was not adequate. There was very little squash spread. And the salad was bland and dry. Very disappointed. I saw some of the other dishes and they certainly didn't seem so small. I will likely try this place again given their high reviews but I will not order that item again.

Nice offerings and interesting menu. The london fog was tasty and the croissants are huge and flaky, excited to try more.

Checked this place out recently. I tried the Bimbimbap bowl w/ egg over easy (I'm a big fan of Korean) and the Honey Biscuit. It took a while to prepare, but was told everything is made fresh to order. The bimbimbap bowl was cool, on the plus side, clearly fresh ingredients and everything was made from scratch. On the negative side, it wasn't as authentically Korean as I would've like, tasted more Korean inspired. The honey biscuit had great texture, but it was too sweet for my taste. This place isn't bad at all, but the final point is, price was ~$30 for these 2 items. I get that fresh costs, but I couldn't see myself spending $30 here again. If money is not issue, and you're in the area, it's extremely fresh food that's clearly made with care. When I take price into account I have to give it 3 stars. If it was more in the $20 range for what I got, I think it would probably get 4. Just my opinion!

It has been 2 years since I first wrote a review of Moss Cafe, so a brief update. In a nutshell, Moss continues to thrive in menua expansion and customer service, and offer its patrons food we want. Personally, I am gluten free (GF) and I *love* the options from salads to GF toast with avocado to their infamous GF muffins. Their customer service has improved and they keep the order line moving. There is usually a seat at sat a table, but they can get crowded at peak times (Sundays, for sure). The food is ​absolutely top notch. I am eating their "shaved vegetable salad" at the moment and it is delicious. (It is also GF and Vegan, fo those interested, though I added a poached egg to mine.) And yes, when I said at "the moment", I mean right now on their Internet. I continue to come back for morning work on laptop when I am not going into the office. It is a great place to work and equally nice to have a breakfast with a friend. Weekday mornings seems to attract people woking on laptops, whereas weekends is more social. Enjoy this gem!

We were very excited about this place, as it looks high quality and fills a non-Starbucks need in the area. But it's always mobbed. And even if you do manage to get a seat the prices are astronomical. Too bad.

The food here is delicious. They have a nice selection of fresh and healthy options for brunch. Whether you are in the mood for eggs, pastries, salads, or lunch fare, this place has lots of items to choose from. All of their food is creative and fresh tasting. The coffee is strong, the breads and other baked goods are delicious, and there are usually daily specials which add nice variations to the menu. This place is great for vegetarians and vegans, as well as people who keep Kosher. The dining space here is very small and chaotic. It is difficult to enjoy a relaxing brunch in this establishment, as you are always in somebody's way no matter where you are. You bus your own table, which is slightly oxymoronic, as you have to battle your way over to the bussing station in order to do so. Once you get there, the bus bins are often overflowing with dishes, and you have to be very careful not to topple the pile of dishes over. The staff here are excellent. They do a great job at dealing with the crowd and working with each patron to make the dining experience as smooth as possible. They step in and serve you when possible and also work hard to keep the line moving. The prices at this place are also higher than average. Every dish is quite expensive, especially considering the service that you get and the overall chaotic experience of eating there. It is great to have a good vegetarian establishment in Riverdale with innovative and healthy dishes. Moss Café does a great job at providing Riverdale with a modern and unique place to eat. If they could somehow improve the dining experience, this place would be much more enjoyable to eat at. I know it is a small space, but there are other small dining establishments that are not as stressful to eat at.

Since we discovered Moss it has quickly become a neighborhood favorite. While I still think the drinks and food are a tad on the pricier side, I have never once been disappointed in my order. The food is always fresh and delicious and I am in love with their Vietnamese iced coffee and their rosemary lemonade. It's SO GOOD!!!
