On the Grid : Mother Kelly's

"Mother Kelly’s is the beer paradise, inspired by New-York tap rooms and situated in one of the railway arches of Paradise Row. You have the choice between 23 beers on the tap (which they change pretty much everyday) and a HUGE selection of bottles to pick up from the fridges. Lagers, IPA, stouts, Belgian krieks, brown beers, black beers, cider... there are beers for everyone to discover. The bottles are also available to take-away, so you can do your beer shopping here as well. The place is super convivial, on top of the beers, you can enjoy cheese, meat, vegetable and chocolate boards! There is plenty of space inside and outside on the terrace, perfect to come with a big group of friends." - Mélanie Hubert-Crozet

Beyond Brewdog: The Best Craft Beer in London at Pubs and Taprooms - Eater London

"Mother Kelly’s wall of fridges is a beautiful thing. Six of them, shoulder to shoulder, shelves full of anything from Amundsen to Wild Beer Co. Pair that with 23 taps on constant rotation, and it’s fair to say this tap room has one of the most extensive beer ranges in London." - Hugh Thomas

Google
One of the greatest beer bars on the planet. The service is incredible and seriously the people who work there are so cool and top notch. They know so much about beer and are super accommodating. So nice to sit on the terrace and sip pints and they have some really amazing food pop ups all the time. This is the place to be for a cheeky pint of something amazing that won't be on the menu at the average pub (and some that will). Visit this place when in London for sure.

Google
Hate to gush, but OMG! Augustiner Helles! Not the export, the real deal. This was my favorite beer when I lived in Munich. Their outside benches and tables also feel like real Biergarten.

Google
This is one of my favourite places in London, especially as someone who tends to like darker beers. The food options there are very limited but they allow you to get outside food which is great. The service is also excellent and everyone is super helpful if you need recommendations or have questions. Obviously their tap beer is what they’re known for but if you can’t find anything on tap they also have a great selection of bottled beers/ciders and I believe some wine.

Lovely outside sitting area. Staff were very friendly. I had a pint and bruschetta and it was delicious! Lots of space to hang out with friends.

Good beer, nice atmosphere, you can bring your own food, which was amazing!

22 beers on tap, wall of fridges. A few wines if you fancied that. Decent selection of low and no alcohol beers. Cheese and charcuterie boards

This is a fantastic venue and great that it's dog friendly. I especially love their annual Sours weekend!

Google
A fantastic beer venue, probably a must-visit place for a beer geek visiting London. Great range of beers on tap (keg) with an emphasis on London and UK breweries. They do 1/3 pours, which is great. Decent prices. Several fridges loaded with cans and bottles of all beer styles, including some continental European stuff (Germany, Belgium, etc.). Staff is usually quite pleasant and efficient. Lots of seating indoors and also a big outdoor patio area. Great place to check out.

Yelp
Stopped in for a pint and a snack. Enjoyed the Meat & Cheese Board (£12.50 A selection of cheese & meat: Stilton & Cheddar , Mother's Ruin & Hoghton Loin, Gordal Olives, sourdough bread & damson chutney). Yum! Two tables out front, small pub, with back outdoor patio. Friendly service.

Yelp
Wow. Well here we go...I was sure there were some hidden gems around Bethnal Green area that I still didn't know about...and Mother Kellys is one of them. It's pretty simple, once in front of those fridges full of belgian/german/uk beers, I didn't know where to look or to start...sooo much choice, and that's just talking about the bottled! Look behind the counter, and check out all those drafts! So if you're like me, lost in beer translation, tell the guys what you like and they'll be able to help you out! Love the idea of ordering half pints, which puts the focus on discovering more than binge drinking, and that terrace is just mega! Group of colleagues or a birthday to plan? Book one of the huge communal tables inside.

Yelp
I managed to drag my team eastwards after work for once, and this place made a nice change to all the crowded city spots for post work drinks. Some of them looked a little nervous at being as far east as Bethnal Green surrounded by beards and graffiti-ed walls, but any fears were soon allayed by the excellent beer selection this place had to offer. I'm not a massive beer drinker, more a dabbler of pale ales, so the barwoman kindly let me try a couple of the many offerings they had on tap. I think my more discerning colleague had about six tasters(!), so it's great that they let you try before you buy. There's plenty of famous to lesser known bottles and cans in the fridges along the wall too. It was a gorgeous evening so we stood outside and enjoyed the sunshine in the courtyard. Sadly the food truck that often appears here was nowhere to be seen so we attempted to order some food platters inside (meat and cheese boards mmm) but were told they were too busy and we should try again in ten minutes. This was a bit strange as ten mins can't make that much difference and food boards are more assembly jobs really...but anyhoo. An odd note to finish on but a fun drinks stop all the same!

Yelp
Can't wait to go to this place in summer! Great outdoor area and a welcoming open indoor space that is subtly set up like a beer garden. That being said it's still warm and cozy inside on a cold night. There are 20 taps with a changing line up of beers to chose from and then a long wall of bottled beers. These are available for take away too which is excellent because committing to just one or two beers here is seriously difficult. Lots of local as well as international brews to pick from and the staff are there to help you chose. And the staff know their beers. If you ask nicely they will let you try a bit before you buy... This is why I like to sit at the bar. Platters and beer snacks available including the good old peanut option, charcuterie plate and a cheese plate. Good spot to have a settle in session or just a quick tipple after work or pre Mission.

Yelp
This is an easy 5 star review. Amazing beer selection.. I don't know if you will find better range in the city. They have 20 taps that are always changing... while we were there they changed out 6 kegs and reprinted the menu as well as a huge wall of collers full of bottled beer that you can drink in or takeaway (different prices). The location is great in Paradise Row. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and it was a cool scene.. big outdoor selection where they were serving oysters. Overall vibe is hipster, but not obnoxious. Bartenders were not snobs and service was quick. Places like this make me love London

Yelp
If you love Beer you're going to love Mother Kelly's. They have a huge selection on tap and along one of the walls - yes you heard right... not the wall of the bar, one wall of the venue, they have fridges lined with beer from all over the globe. I was really happy to find some Springwater bottle, one of my favourite brewers which I've only chanced upon a few times so far in London, so this place gets a huge thumbs up from me! You can buy bottles to drink there, or take home and the lovely bar staff with help you with your drink selection, allowing you to trial the ones they have on tap so you know you're not going to buy a dud. Prices are reasonable for craft beer and the vibe is very busy and vibrant. Located in the railway arches, the venue is quite dark and feels a little like a dive bar. It's functional and the lighting is pretty dark, but it's cosy and feels inviting. They have a lot of tables inside and out, but I've found that it get extremely busy, so unless you come early you may not be able to get a spot. They also close the outside off later in the evening, so squish you inside. They don't serve food themselves, but there is a small pop up outside that does burgers and meaty treats, and a Vietnamese restaurant a couple of doors down. I learnt however that they really don't like you bringing in your own food - the hard way.

Yelp
Why did it take me so long to review this pub? This is a first class place in the heart of Bethnal Green, with that East London feel we (almost) all like! We went through a tech accelerator with my former startup, and our investor organised an evening out for all the teams about halfway into the programme... Because we all needed to relax. Why in Bethnal Green? Because it's where their story started, and it's even in their name. They could not have picked a better place for all of us, about 30 people, to hang out in a perfect summer day. The faux-empty decor looks quite lovely in my view. The bar has a long lane on taps on the wall where you can get a HUGE collection of drinks. Lots of beer, cider, and wine, there something for each and everyone to find his or her perfect taste. The sitting room actually has lovely rows for groups to sit and enjoy their drinks, or barrels for those to stand around whilst enjoying their pints. There is PLENTY of space outside to sit and relax during the lovely days, which was the case when we first went there summer 2014. How about the staff? I always have a note about them, because they can literally change the whole perception of the place for me. Pleased to say that they are in perfect harmony with the place: smiley, lovely, available for customers. What else do you need? Easy 5 stars for you Mother Kellys, a must-go in East London. Have been again, and will go again! :)

Yelp
Nice spot for drinks after a solid day of coworking. Tucked away a bit off the high street, so it doesn't get as much passerby traffic, but it's still packed in the evening. Skip the fridges- there's a ton of rotating taps with options aplenty. The staff don't necessarily have a ton of beer knowledge though, so if you're unsure I'd either ask for a taste or just be bold and leap blindly towards whatever has the silliest name! The food options are light, but there's a decent charcuterie plate. It should solidly feed two with enough salt and cheese to last until you get a proper meal.

Yelp
A recent house move quickly sent me searching for an updated watering hole and I found an excellent one in Mother Kellys. First of all, the location of this place is outstanding. Right in the train arches, tucked on Paradise row behind the business of Cambridge heath road. Although you're bang on the central line, it does feel nicely quiet and secluded, a huge draw for me (and should be for you too). Next (and yes probably the most important bit) the beer - it is awesome, and there's a boat load of the stuff. On the back wall there are over 20 different taps and a corresponding menu that will certainly contain something for everyone. We're talk ales, lagers, brown beers, black beers, stouts, cider and the list continues. I went for a nicely rounded sweet cider, number 20 i believe, and it matched the summer sun perfectly. In addition to the tap wall, yep I've named it this, there are a few fridges on the side with even more drinkable delights. All bottled with different prices for drinking in and taking away. I've now made it my personal mission to get through everything on offer in here (Not in one night). The food is good and simple, they don't need a lot of food given your time will be better suited to trying all the beer but a veg and meat board does suit a few drinks in the sunshine very well. An absolute find for me and given it's walkable to the house, I imagine you'll see me in there when you visit.

Yelp
I freely admit that I am currently enamored with Mother Kelly's. It's location- hidden in the arches down Paradise Row, yet adjacent to Bethnal Green tube station- ensures that people don't just wander in haphazardly, but it is still very easy to catch the last tube home when last calls echo through the bar. It's a fabulous new addition to East London and a perfect concept for beer aficionados; if you're looking to try something novel, this is *the* place to go. The twenty beers on tap are constantly rotating and there's a new selection offered on every visit. The staff will talk you through their recommendations or let you try for yourself if you're not convinced that a milk stout or sour Belgian beer sound to your taste. There's a wall of taps offering beer and ciders, but there are some local gins and other spirits and wine for those less inclined. Adjacent to the tap bar is a wall of fridges, where a wide variety of beers and ciders can either be enjoyed in or taken away. The décor is industrial and pretty on-trend minimalistic- there are a few small barrels used as tables, but mostly communal style seating and more tables outdoors for the warmer months (or all year around when you're a smoker). It gets pretty hot and boisterous on a Saturday night, but I've always managed to eventually get a seat with some patience. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and are always milling about, clearing away the glasses as they stack up. If you're feeling experimental, take a group a friends and have a sip of everyone's beer- it's a great conversation point and everyone will find something that they enjoy by the end of the evening. Be warned, though- some of the beers are very strong and most are offered in 2/3 pints (or smaller depending on the potency of the beer). The one downside to Mother Kelly's is that it might have an impact on your wallet- it can get a bit pricy depending on your palate and drinking speed!

Yelp
Excellent meat & cheese boards are complimented by the massive selections of rare and tasty beers and ciders! Definitely recommended!!

Yelp
I came here with a group of friends after having brunch next door at Resident of Paradise Row. It was empty at the time, but it is a really cool space with lots of tables, a bar with 23 beers on tap, and well labelled fridges with bottled beer and cans sorted by type. The beers are not cheap though - the ones in the fridges averaged about £4 or £5, and the ones on tap were about the same for only 1/3 or 1/2 pint. So this is significantly more expensive than going to your local pub and ordering a full pint for £3 or £4. They did have an incredible selection, though. I saw a lot of Belgian kriek fruit beers, some ciders, another fridge of IPAs, and they even have a whole fridge of sharing beers that come in the size of a wine bottle. The beers on tap ranged from 3% ABV to up to 10%, and you rarely see so many at the higher end of that spectrum. They have a number of food options such as a charcuterie board or even a chocolate truffle board. They also did some free advertising for a guy in their outside area that was selling hot dogs out of his motorcycle, at pay as you wish prices. Very East London. I think this place would be great to have a beer or two, or grab some to take home, but given the prices I would hardly call it a watering hole.

Yelp
When I moved to Bethnal Green finding somewhere for evening drinks was a must and I have to say Mother Kellys soon became my local. Its a simple set up...bottle shop and 21 taps which include a vast selection of beer as well as red wine, white wine and prosecco! You can also buy the drinks from bottle shop to take away. Ideal for a chilled few drinks in a great setting. Especially good if you are gluten-free as they always have about 2 gluten-free beers available at any given time.

Yelp
Amazing selection of craft beers at reasonable prices, in a very cool location. Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Awesome bar with constantly changing beer list. They they don't serve cocktails or mixers so it's not the best place if you don't like beer. But if you do they have an amazing selection. Unfortunately they only have hot food on the weekends and during the week they just have cheese and meat boards.

Yelp
A great bottle shop and tap room. Some great craft beer selections. Bit pricey.
