18 Essential Sacramento Restaurants

"There’s an effortless cool to Mother’s menu: chunks of baby beets piled with whipped avocado on a tostada; broccolini adobo; chile verde starring starchy white beans and hominy rather than the standard pork. The all-vegetarian restaurant is enjoying its second incarnation; chef Michael Thiemann reopened at a different location last summer, and it hasn’t taken long for the restaurant to resume its special place in diners’ hearts. The fun approach and vibrant fare make Mother a reliable option for a midweek dinner, solo or otherwise. For a more elevated experience, check out the 10-course tasting menu." - Tamerra Griffin

Where to Eat and Drink Near the Sacramento Convention Center | Eater SF

"At the all-vegetarian restaurant Mother, meat eaters are known to completely forget their more carnivorous cravings. Try the fried mushroom po boy, or the carrot nut burger, or the chili verde, or any of the fresh pastas. Fun, relaxed, and not remotely preachy, Mother is a solid choice for lunch or dinner." - Janelle Bitker

It was as solid vegetarian stop. The Rosemary Fries w/ the smoked vegan mayo were excellent. The Nut Burger was good, I've never had one before, but I probably prefer the more traditional alternatives. My Kiddo got the Farro salad and liked it. Overall it was a good experience.

Alright, I will preface this by saying I’m extremely hard to impress with food. I love to cook and very, very rarely eat out. And when I do, I’m almost always disappointed or at best unimpressed. My friends and I were spending the weekend in Sacramento, and I had looked up healthy restaurants. This one caught my eye, so we tried it out on Saturday night. Right away when we walked in, I loved the atmosphere. It was colorful but cozy at the same time. We were greeted and sat right away at a long, high-top table. There were cute little flower vases on every table and colorful glasses for water. We split the mustard brussels sprouts and baked veggie focaccia as appetizers. They brought out three plates and even cut the bread in three slices for us— small touches that made us feel cared for! For our meals, we got the curry, lasagna, and bitter caesar. We all tried bites of each other’s, and let me tell you— everything was absolutely INCREDIBLE. This was by far some of the best food I’ve ever had in my entire life. It almost brought actual tears to my eyes. My friends agreed, and we couldn’t shut up about it during the whole meal. Funnily enough, at the end we learned from the server that the chef has a Michelin nod, and my friends and I had been saying it tasted like Michelin star food. I am already dreaming of coming back to town so I can eat here again. Oh, it was also super reasonably priced, though I would have gladly paid much more.

Came here for my birthday during a chefs 10. Everything was incredible! The chef Mike came out and explained everything and really made us feel like we were in there alone having a super special evening to ourselves. The server Raef was so kind and attentive, and truly went above and beyond.

Google
Very delicious, soul-food inspired dishes—all vegetarian. Great place to go for a special night to sample lots of offerings. The fried green tomatoes and corn with tarragon was a highlight.

Google
Took my mom her for Mother’s Day, does not get more “Mother” than that. It was her request too, because we’ve loved Mother for years and when it closed it was a big loss for us and the farm to fork community in Sacramento. When she heard it had reopened she had been asking to return and I am SO glad we finally went. Already plotting to come back. As usual, elevated vegetables. Nothing forced into a meat shape or flavor, just highlighting the natural flavor and bounty of the ingredients. Honestly, the broccoli adobo was my favorite menu item. Simple but so complex in flavor and texture. An amazing dish. Could lick the plate. The farro was good, but didn’t really do it for me flavor-wise. Was missing come acidity. Texture and freshness was on-point in truly every dish we had. The homemade ravioli made with fava beans was insane! So delicious and balanced. Highly recommend that dish too. And the hummus? I was not expecting to love it so much but everything combined from the sweet apricot to the tangy hummus and fresh salad was insanely good, we were fighting over who got to finish it. I regret not taking a picture but the golden beet tostada was very memorable too. It reminded me flavor and texture wise like a ceviche. Ok I could go on and on. Can’t wait to come back and try more. A great place to share a bunch of dishes with friends and try as much as you can because you won’t be disappointed! Great new location and the service was amazing just like the original location. So glad you’re back!

Google
Substantial vegetarian fare that is sophisticated in the chef’s innovative combination of vegetables and herbs. We share the green curry and the wedding lasagna. The green curry was my favorite. The roasted garlic caught my attention, the curry added depth, while the different vegetables surprised me with each taste. The lasagna is light and creamy, a solid entree which seems vanilla compared to the flavorful curry. We also enjoyed the Jamichael drink made with hibiscus and other juices. The high top tables were comfortable after sitting all day, and there are standard tables as well. This restaurant offers a fresh perspective on meatless meals!

Google
I used to love the old Mother, but this was my first visit to the reopened site. I was early, nobody else was there, though they were doing a lot of takeout. I ordered the beets, and strawberries, very nice, and the squash latkes. Now, I've been eating latkes my whole life. I know what they're supposed to be and was looking forward to a,squash version. Imagine my surprise when the dish came out with 2 inch high wedges of what looked like pureed (?) squash cake! The top was browned dark like from the oven. While the sauce was flavorful and the sauteed veggies very nice, the cake was rather flavorless. I would not ever tell a chef how to prepare their dishes, but I suggest, at least re-naming this one. I may try Mother again, but this time was very disappointing.

Google
Kale salad was too saucy. Brussel sprouts has a lot of mustard in it and are smashed. Lasagna was so so and expensive. Was excited to try this place out but what a letdown.

Yelp
Really quite disappointing! Nothing was very good. The nut burger was a mush patty with a giant bun. Zero taste beyond the onion and tomato on it. And drowning in ketchup and sauce. Maybe let me put on the ketchup I want? The chile verde at $20 is really quite overpriced. It was small and all sauce and what seemed like leftover sliced fried potato wedges. Maybe one teaspoon of beans, at most. Everything has expensive "add on" options from guac to eggs which brings up the price another $5 for each item. Absolutely overpriced and not worth it. I don't know if our server was a manager or owner or a server but she couldn't have been more indifferent and kind of scolding about everything. Sorry we asked questions. What's the old saying? You only have one chance to make a first impression. We won't be back.

Yelp
Mother is a casual vegetarian restaurant in hip Midtown Sacramento. We were passing through on the way to Tahoe and stopped here. It is a cool area with lots of shops and restaurants. Menu is plant forward with lots of options and no meat. Food was better than expected, making this great for vegetarians and even carnivores. Service was okay but the waitress disappeared after a while. Food Review: Wedge Fries ($9) are really good. Nicely fried and large wedges. Vegan mayo and ketchup. 10/10 Cauliflower Coconut Curry ($20) has a slight kick and comes with lots of veggies. 9/10 Turmeric Hummus ($14.00 +falafel $3.00) had some really nice pita and hummus. Wish there was more hummus. Side salad is a small after thought. 8.5/10 Salted Chocolate Chip Cookies (V) ($6.00) for 2. A bit on the soft side. 8/10 Overall - Very Good Food - Very Good Decor - Very Good Service - Fair Value - Very Good Would we come back - Yes

Yelp
Really wanted to try this vegan friendly restaurant. They have a liquor license too. So sad that over half the items on the menu are not and cannot be made vegan. The mushroom bolo lasagna and mushroom sizzling skillet have dairy (and maybe egg too). So we tried the soup of the day (tortilla) and oyster mushroom po'boy. Sandwiches was yummy and came with homemade chips. Soup tasted a bit like enchilada sauce and was puréed without beans. Did have tortilla chips on top. Not my fav, but good. Staff was friendly, food came out quick, and there is plenty of street parking. Hope they plan to offer more vegan dishes. Vegetarians will love this place.

Yelp
Food: Toastada, curry, fries, peppers, salad was so good! Service: outstanding, the server touched based often and was very attentive. Ambiance: pretty chill.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Mother at their new K Street location since I heard they were re-opening. I went with a friend who is vegan and we both were a bit skeptical based on experiences at their previous location. However, we were both pleasantly surprised with the items with the menu and the food. We started our meal with their soup of the day, creamy white bean with rosemary. We also shared an appetizer of grilled shishito peppers. For our main course, my friend ordered the mushroom Po'boy sandwich and I got a golden beet tostada. We also got broccolini adobo and grilled summer squash to share. The soup was creamy without being too heavy. The shishito peppers were lightly roasted which brought out sweet and smoky flavors. The summer squash came with grilled apricots, which added a sweet touch to the savory dish. The broccolini with adobo sauce worked very well together. I had my doubts because adobo sauce is usually very salty, but Mother's version was spiced to compliment the vegetable. What I loved about all the dishes was being able to truly taste the fresh ingredients because they weren't overpowered by heavy sauces or creams. We left full and satisfied without feeling stuffed. Service was efficient and friendly. Our food came out in a timely manner and the server came around to check on us. We didn't ever feel like we had to ask for anything. All in all, it was positive re-introduction to the new Mother restaurant. I'll definitely be back soon.

Yelp
While walking through Sacramento, we stumbled upon Mother Restaurant and were intrigued once we realized they offer vegan options, so we decided to give it a try. To our surprise, the food really hit the spot. We visited during a slow lunch hour, which allowed us to enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. The atmosphere was relaxed. We decided to share the oyster mushroom po'boy and the eggplant dish ( I forgot the name of the item), and both dishes were absolutely fantastic. We had a hard time deciding which one was our favorite because each was so flavorful in its own way. .It's a great find in Sacramento, especially for anyone looking for tasty vegan options.

Yelp
While I had known Mother was back in Sacramento I hadnt been able to visit. But thank goodness they are back with their staples and classics and just down the street from their previous location. The mushroom po'boy is always a great choice and the additions of the chips is chef kiss. The sandwich is a great size and easily shareable. The mushrooms are fried and seasoned in a great blend, and the lettuce and cucumbers are a fresh addition. The fried chips are light and crunchy with a seasoning that resembles BBQ chips. My partner ordered the special pasta on the menu and we ordered a side of potato wedges with a great dipping sauce. Staff was very nice and welcoming, checking in at the appropriate times.

Yelp
Vegetarianyum No words can express how my taste buds are feeling. Possibly "orgasmic" as my pallet is dancing with flavors. What a true gem this establishment is. Staff ares friendly, dining is casual.

Yelp
I have missed Mother since the original K street location closed. I worked across the street and would frequent it often. I love the range of vegan and vegetarian options they provide. Some friends and I had to switch our Thursday play date at Cap Stage to Saturday, so we decided to branch out for dinner. Mother is located where Skool Japanese was. The iconic wooden benches from the K Street location have migrated and reproduced, mixed with colorful and bright neon, wallpaper and art. Mother's menu is not huge, but it changes seasonally and contains many crowd pleasers. I opted for the Oyster Mushroom Po' Boy Sandwich- loving the play on the name. The mushrooms were fried perfectly and the overall result was a delicious sandwich thanks to the remoulade and coriander pickles. The special dessert of the day was a cardamom creme brulee, which was just divine. I shared it with the table because it was too rich to eat solo after a decadent fried sandwich. I am so pleased to see Mother thriving just a bit up the road. In a town like Sacrament surrounded by the best and freshest produce imaginable, it's a great option that goes way beyond rabbit food.

Yelp
I felt guilty arriving here 45 minutes before they closed. No, we are not one of those. But tonight we were. Sorry! Still, amazing service and as always the food is good. The art on the wall was new, it was pleasant to look at. Can I share my art too? Anyway, this is our second or third time at this location. I've tried them once in 2019 before they closed the other location and I'm glad they're back and better. Don't ever leave again.

Yelp
As a non-vegetarian, I wasn't sure what to expect when walking in for the first time. After trying it out, I really enjoyed my time there. The staff was great throughout our time there, checking in and refilling water. We came in during a relatively quiet time and were able to sit at a table instantly upon walking in, which is always a bonus. Everything we ordered was great, and the food came out promptly. The sizes of the portions presented to us also surprised me, and they were really filling. Potato wedges were big and satisfying, and the provided dipping sauce was yummy. The po boy was really generously sized, and the chips were tasty too. The special I got, the parpadelle, was really good as well. I'd be back for sure.

Yelp
$46.35 for a farro salad & mushroom po'boy. 1 of which was supposed to include a blue-cheese. No cheese afaik. Food taste was great. Pricing is ridiculous. Especially when you can't call to express your dissatisfaction(no phone number/someome to reach out to) with service after tipping 20% on a to-go order that wasn't fully fulfilled.

Yelp
I really liked: Ferro Salad I liked: Squash Latke Benedict Sweet and sour Brussels sprouts These were ok: Oyster mushroom Poboy Dutch baby The ferro salad and latke benedict #goodeats carried the meal otherwise I wouldn't consider coming back. There's no chicken poboy as suggested on Yelp and the oyster poboy was not very substantial. Not a lot of flavor and kinda bland tbh. If you like lighter meals, I think this place is fine. Service was pretty standard. Nothing extraordinary or bad. There were a good number of people eating here and there's a modern diner feel to the place.

Yelp
I had not been to Mother since pre-COVID. The food was always delicious but the space was small. I was pleasantly surprised when I visited their new location on K Street today. It is spacious, brightly decorated and the food is still all things, fresh and amazing! One of my friends asked how is your food? I replied, it's like a party in my mouth! I will be back again & again!

Yelp
The atmosphere was like stepping into a different time line. The colors bopped and the food was delicious. I was looking for vegan nachos. They don't have them. So I tried their Greta nut burger with fries it was great with layers of flavor. I wasn't disappointed. I will be back another time.

Yelp
Dear Lisa T. If you read my first 2 reviews, they are excellent. I was a dedicated customer who ordered take out a few times a month and always recommended to friends. As my previous review stated there were times when ingredients were missing which I realize could happen. And that is why after the 3rd time I sent an email instead of posting to Yelp. I did that in hopes that you would fix the problem. I never requested or expected a refund and I thanked you for your kind gesture. But then it happened again - 2 more times! Both salads were missing the egg and broccolini. So I contacted you AGAIN. No word. A few days later another salad with barely any broccolini. By this time, I still hadn't heard back so not sure where you left a message b/c I didn't get it. At that point, I finally decided to update my Yelp review. I don't like leaving bad reviews and it pained me to leave 3 stars b/c the food is good. As a Yelper, I try to be fair and usually give the benefit of the doubt as I totally understand that restaurants are a hard business. People make mistakes and servers have bad days. I worked in restaurants (both front of house and in the kitchen) for years. But this is where customer service comes in. When a loyal customer who orders frequently on a regular basis gives you sincere feedback and tells you that salads are consistently missing ingredients and that it happened multiple times, instead of yelling at the customer with a cheeky response, perhaps you could figure out what the problem is and work to fix it. I do not think that is unreasonable or ridiculous, as you put it. So now my review is a one star b/c of the rude response and lack of regard to a repeat customer's valid concerns.

Yelp
The name says it all. Mother is such a great find in Sac for a unique meal that's accommodating to your whole party's dietary preferences and restrictions. We wanted to try a little bit of a lot of items, so we ordered the Po'Boy sandwich, the Fava-oli, the broccolini, the turmeric hummus, and the wedge fries. Everything was delicious! A favorite was definitely the Po'Boy sandwich. It's popular for a reason. The flavor of the ouster mushroom itself combined with the crispy onions and their hot sauce is a great combination. I also really Loved their turmeric hummus and broccolini Adobo. The simplicity of the dishes truly doesn't matter because they are so well executed. Highly recommend as apps for the table! I wasn't the biggest fan of the Fava-oli but it was a big hit with other members of my party. If you enjoy a lighter and more lemony pasta with peas, this is definitely for you. Overall, we had a great experience here celebrating a birthday and we'll definitely be back!

Yelp
New location feels a lot more spacious than the previous one. A little warm inside for a restaurant but not too uncomfortable. The Sunflower Pesto pasta with trumpet mushrooms was absolutely delicious. I'm a meat eater and I didn't miss the lack of meat one bit with this dish. Staff was friendly but not very attentive. Our server never came back to check on us after our food was delivered and we had to wait quite awhile until a different server noticed us just sitting and offered to bring our check to us. Our table was very wobbly and made it difficult to eat. The food itself was 5 stars, the service needs some improvement.

Yelp
I have been eagerly wanting to come to this restaurant because of its renowned vegan menu, and my expectations were certainly met. The food in the menu was exceptionally delicious and satisfying. We placed the following orders: - Turmeric hummus- it pairs perfectly with their house- made flat bread. -Strawberry Farro Salad - basil vinaigrette brings out the best flavors in this refreshing salad featuring crisp arugula, juicy strawberries, cheese, red onion, and cucumber. -Chili Verde- arugula, crispy tortillas, and fresh avocado elevated the flavors of this salad. -Potato Wedges- large potato cut into five pieces with skin and sprinkled with rosemary salt. Smoked mayonnaise dip makes it more delicious. Because of the chilly and wet weather, we opted for hot tea and coffee. -Soup of the day- I forgot the name but it was so good. Finding a parking spot was the biggest challenge. We waited for a car to leave so that we could park. Highly recommended this vegan restaurant for its delicious plant- based dishes and cozy atmosphere.

Yelp
I like the new location in midtown and am happy there is more of a dining experience than their previous downtown spot. We were seated in a tiny 2-seat table right on top of someone else however so it felt a little like we couldn't have a private conversation. Louder upbeat music inside (I remember hearing The Rolling Stones in particular). I like that everything is vegetarian and there are many vegan options. I got the farro salad because I used to love it before. I was a little disappointed though because the serving was pretty small ($14 salad) so I left kind of hungry. There were a bunch of green apple slices and some roasted butternut squash. It was good, but not that exciting so I'll probably try something different next time. I had to order without cheese to make vegan. My friend got the mushrooms sandwich that came with a bunch of potato chips. He said the more milder just sauce was good on it

Yelp
My house is under construction for a few days and I wont be able to cook! I was gifted a Mother gift certificate a few months ago so I ordered takeout. Ordering online was a breeze. The restaurant is really cute. The service super friendly. They accommodated my special requests. I will eat in and take my friends next time. I tried the vegan chili. I liked the texture. It was hearty and spicy. I didn't miss having meat in the chili. I also had the kale salad and farro salad. They were awesome. There were so many textures and super fresh ingredients. The basil salad dressing was incredible. Great food and experience.

Yelp
Wine Wednesday means 1/2 on wine. The food and service are always great at Mother! We also enjoy the fun floral decor.

Grace P.

Yelp
This place is consistently amazing. I always bring people here when they're visiting and it's always a hit! My favorite is the Caesar salad and hummus. You really can't go wrong.

Chelsy R.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong food was amazing but the service was terrible, the server only had 2 other tables and she never once checkedup on us. Nasty attitude and all she did was drop off the food... so sad because this is place is very cute.

Yelp
I've been here twice now. I think the food is pretty good but it's also pretty expensive. For vegetarians it's a treat. The dishes are pretty creative and there's a lot that would appeal to non-vegetarians as well. The Jamaica (hibiscus punch) is delicious! The ambiance is a bit bright and loud for my style. Overall, give it a shot, you might love it. Definitely worth a try.
google avatar

Dominique C.

Yelp
The oyster po boy was delicious. However I got mine Togo and it was extremely soggy. The bread was overwhelming compared to the feeling inside. I would prefer a bread that is not so thick. The homemade pickles are very good as were the chips that come with the sandwich.

M Q.

Yelp
Clean and open space. No frills. Excellent cream of asparagus soup $9- beet & butter lettuce salad $14 ?? unimpressed very little to it - where the beets were I don't know. $8 cup of Kombucha was also disappointing. Wanted to like it - but didn't. Service was pleasant and attentive.
google avatar

Yelp
First time here but will definitely be back. The service was amazing, we were greeted immediately, took no time to be seated and he was constantly refilling our waters. I loved the vegan options that were available, the fried mushrooms were amazing and I would have ordered them entirely on their own if possible (along with the pickles). The star for me though was the broccolini, it was perfectly tender, had a wonderful grilled flavor that reminded me of barbecues in the summer. There wasn't a ton of seating but we had no issues getting seated and with four of us at the table there was still plenty of room.
google avatar

Mia H.

Yelp
Ok so the food was kind of like pretentious (that's the best way i can think of describing it) and very expensive for what it is. It almost as if they are trying too hard. I would come here if someone else was paying for me but i wouldn't just come here with the homie again. It was cute inside and the lady who waited on us was nice but damn I just feel like there's better stuff for cheaper.
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
I was surprised how much I liked the food, because it looks so simple and not flavorful from the menu, but there is so much flavor. It's also incredibly easy to eat that will not make you bloated or stuffed. Service was excellent. Prices are average. Cute interior.
google avatar

Natanya G.

Yelp
Wow! My daughter brought me here a couple nights ago. I'm so impressed. We had the coconut lime collard greens. I'm still craving them! My dish was so fresh and filling of flavor! Service was great too. It's was a tad cold temperature wise inside. But I cannot wait to go back!

Yelp
Delicious spot for a dinner! We ordered a few different items to share. We tried the hummus, Brussels sprouts, oyster mushroom sandwich, farro salad, and tagliatelle. The presentation and flavor of the hummus was surprising. We enjoyed the spice and apple with the brussels sprouts. The sandwich would be a pass as it did not have a lot of flavor to it. The tagliatelle was yummy and I wished it came in a larger portion.
google avatar

Candace C.

Yelp
I was absolutely delighted when I heard that Mother has reopened. Our lives hadn't been the same since we could no longer enjoy the mushroom po boys...I mean we were legit devastated. So no surprises here...I ordered the mushroom po boy at the new location. The mushrooms were fried harder than before, smaller portion and the bread isn't the same. Friend ordered the brussel sprouts and the Asian inspired dipping sauce was amazingggggg! Great service from the entire staff. Parking is not the greatest so if dining for dinner is carve out additional time if needed, so secure parking.

Yelp
I cannot believe we get to have another chance with Mother. The rebirth of Mother is in the location previously occupied by Skool, Anatoli Table, and Hina's Tea shop. Personally, I think the location is better than the previous place downtown. I remember when this was a pop up concept and I've liked all of the iterations, but this new location is making me very happy. What I really appreciate is that they moved from an order at the counter model to a table service model. When you're drinking and getting small plates, it's just so much nicer. The waiter was very nice and Michael even came to the table to greet us. We went pretty hard in the paint with the small plates. We got the winter soup, Marinated Baby Beets, Coconut Lime Collard Greens, Grass Valley Grits, Turmeric Hummus, Charred Savoy Cabbage, and the Winter Squash Agnolotti. What can I say? I missed this place and they had so many great offerings. I wanted to order more. But how were the items I did order? First let me say how generous the small plates are. I wasn't sure how much we were getting per small plate, but it's much more substantial than I anticipated. For example, the hummus comes with a side salad not even mentioned in the description. It was almost an entree in and of itself. So how was the food? It was exciting. Mother has always found a way to make you excited about vegetarian and vegan food. The hummus was not only well seasoned, but the texture was very smooth and the apricot chutney was a great garnish. The lime coconut collard greens were amazing and was like a cross between classic southern greens and callaloo. The grits were wonderfully creamy and the molasses butter was a great touch. The soup, albeit grey in appearance, was so fully of flavor and fully of wonderful unexpected notes (roasted pepitas?). Last, but not least was the agnolotti. The pasta was well made, the filling was very generous but, for me, the salsify really took that dish to the next level. Overall, this is still a great place to eat. I'll argue this new location improves upon an already winning formula. This place shouldn't be considered just for vegetarians and vegans. I'm an omnivore and I love this place. I will definitely return here to see what new things they dream up next.

Yelp
tl;dr: Welcome back, Mother, we missed you. Amazing food, amazing people. When Mother closed a few years ago, it felt like a friend was going on a road trip and then fell off the face of the planet. Mother is a Sacramento staple and I hope they're here to stay. The menu is simple, modern, creative, and rotates every now and then. The portions are reasonable, prices a tad high but not unreasonable, and the service is quick and friendly. The new restaurant feels like a modern diner, color is in every nook and cranny and the walls are lined with canvasses from local artists. If you're driving here, expect to have a hard time finding parking or alternatively, you'll have to be willing to walk a few blocks. Our first visit to Mother 2.0, we had the mushroom po-boy, nut burger, hummus, and a few rounds of drinks. I think the bread may be different since the original restaurant but was still delicious and worked well for both plates. The hummus was the star of the show, I would definitely order this if it's still on the menu for our next visit. The food is light but filling and absolutely has that "everything on the plate was made here" (because it is) vibe. The house hot sauces are both delicious and the habanero is somehow not face-melting. I don't have a single complaint about Mother, unless you count the whole disappearing for a few years thing.

Yelp
Mother has been my favorite restaurant since they opened over by The Crest. Chef Mike is so talented and a truly cool, kind, fun dude. The food is super fresh, delicious and there's nothing that I've had that I wasn't impressed by. They play good music, service is always friendly and you feel like you're part of the family. Everyone that works there is super cool and Mother will forever be my favorite restaurant. Yay!

Mother and Chef Mike are back. We missed this place so much. Chef Mike has been feed my wife and I some of the best plant food we have ever had. The service is fantastic and the ambiance is full of beautiful art. If you are a vegetarian, vegan or plant food enthusiast. This is a must visit in Sacramento.

Yelp
I am a meat eater and rarely go to vegetarian restaurants but this place is amazing. I like the new location, definitely an upgrade from their previous location on K Street. The service was as good as the food. Whether or not you're a vegetarian, put this restaurant on your list.

Yelp
Mother is just a GENIUS front..... There's so much more that they do covertly to keep the community together to bridge all the chefs together to hype up Sacramento's food scene..... If you are a home chef and you need inspiration, this whole menu is worth trying....I personally go to mother to taste creations that I can not make at home and to inspire me..... It's the type of comfort food that you think about and you crave all week long... This chef will do underground competitions/// meet-ups to make sure there are friendly competitions and edge in our little food scene here ...... there will never be an experience like this menu....

Yelp
This restaurant is great for vegetarians! They have many unique vegetarian dishes that use an array of vegetables, not simply meat substitutes or tofu dishes. We had the white bean soup, and mushroom sandwich and farro salad. Each dish had a blend of fresh ingredients and tasted delicious . The restaurant has clean restrooms, nice remodeled decor , and prompt service. Our waiter attended to us, offered great recommendations. The decor and , cleanliness made the whole ambiance inside wonderful.

Yelp
This place surprised me in the best way, the menu was full of vibrant options that made it hard to choose. I started with a cider and my partner chose this peach-less kombucha which was amazing, we've decided we needed it in our household but have yet to follow through. I had their winter squash agnolotti pasta which was so much fun to eat it was a semi-different bite each time and it was a blend of flavors I never thought to try but it worked. My partner ordered the vegan pumpkin green curry which could get boring for a vegan but it was light and filling at the same time. This place is a slight splurge for the options vs the pricing, but nonetheless it was a great meal!

Yelp
How do serve hot food? Hot! I drove 30 minutes to try Mother for the first time in a few years and got two orders of the side mushrooms to go, as well as a fried green tomato sandwich. I was so excited to try, I opened one of the shrooms in the parked car before I took off and they were barely warm! Why wouldn't you fire fresh mushrooms which probably take 10 minutes from raw to cooked for every order, even at the end of the night? Sandwich is fine. As a Southerner, I don't think arugula or cheese goes on a fried tomato sandwich but go off king.

Yelp
If you eat here on a Thursday and you're not lucky enough to get the Chef's 10 tasting menu, you will wish you had. You have to reserve one of the spots online and pre-pay, and it's a lot of food that's not on the menu. It's 10 courses. All of its amazing and everyone who sat next to me was wondering what/how/why I got what looked like an unlimited constant helping of amazing food. Truly the best experience and the chef is so kind. Thursday nights are amazing here! I'm sure the regular menu is all great too (it looked good), but just not as fun as a tasting menu if you're a foodie.

Yelp
Ate at Mother on K Street & 23rd in midtown! Indulged in their delicious tomato basil soup, refreshing beet salad, and mouthwatering chili verde - each bite is a symphony of flavor! Trust me, your taste buds will thank you later.

Yelp
Always amazing! It never fails, I take a friend who is in doubt and they leave a believer. The hibiscus tea, the golden beets tostada, the pasta, the peach dessert- all perfection! The best is to visit the 2nd Saturday street fair and go here to eat and make it a date.
