On a cold Saturday, my lady and I decided to grab a quick bite to eat at Mother's Best Fried Chicken, and from the looks of it, we weren't the only ones with that idea. The place was bustling, but that only added to the anticipation. Parking was easily accessible, though it could be costly, so if possible, I recommend finding a spot on the street and paying that fee over opting for the parking lot.
Upon stepping inside, we noticed a long but steadily moving line. The ambiance immediately stood out to me--it had a nostalgic feel, with sports and entertainment photos and memorabilia adorning the walls. As a fan of that kind of decor, I really appreciated the effort put into the restaurant's aesthetic.
As we approached the counter, we saw a massive menu board displaying all the options, making it easy to decide what to order. We went with two chicken sandwiches ($12 each) and a 4-piece bucket of chicken ($18). One nice touch was the courtesy cups of lemonade, which was a kind and refreshing gesture.
Just as we finished ordering, a party left, giving us the perfect opportunity to dine in. After about a 10-minute wait, our food arrived--hot and fresh. The chicken sandwiches were served on thick, toasted bread with pickles and Mom's Sauce, which had a flavor reminiscent of Zaxby's sauce but fresher. They were solid, but the real star of the show was the bucket of chicken.
The bucket came with two thighs, a leg, a wing, fries, and a few cups of Mom's Sauce on the side. Once the chicken cooled down a bit, I took my first bite--and I couldn't stop eating. The chicken was flavorful, crunchy, well-seasoned, and generously sized. The fries were just as enjoyable--crispy, well-seasoned, and packed with flavor.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Mother's Best Fried Chicken. The food was delicious, the ambiance was inviting, and the service was efficient. I'd definitely go back and recommend it to anyone looking for a great fried chicken spot in Decatur.
