Metro Detroit’s Best Breweries and Taprooms | Eater Detroit

"One of Detroit’s landmark breweries, Motor City Brewing Works is a 30-years-and-running destination for brick-oven pizzas and beers, as well as sunshine seekers, thanks to a small deck that overlooks the pub’s Canfield entrance. There are some tables shaded by umbrellas and additional patio seating on the ground level. The brewery accepts online orders for food, beer, and kegs." - Courtney Burk

Detroit’s Best Pizza, Mapped | Eater Detroit

"The original Midtown brewery-pizzeria combo Motor City Brewing Works still serves some of the best brick oven pies around. For something spicy try the Sopla Fuego, a mixture of habanero sauce, jalapeños, chorizo, queso, onion, sour cream, lime, and cilantro. Just remember to have a beer handy when taking a bite. The brewery offers indoor seating as well as covered and uncovered patio seating — great whenever weather permits — both in Midtown and at its newer location on the Avenue of Fashion." - Serena Maria Daniels

Portland’s Detroit Pizzeria Assembly Brewing Opens on Alberta Street - Eater Portland

"Almost five years ago, George Johnson opened Assembly Brewing, a combination Detroit-style pizzeria and brewpub, in Foster-Powell. Johnson, who grew up in Detroit, wanted to stay as true to the original as possible, so he went back to Michigan to study pizzamaking under Shawn Randazzo, the award-winning pizzaiolo behind Detroit Style Pizza Company. As a result, Assembly Brewing’s pizzas were, in the words of Eater Portland’s Motor City-raised correspondent Rachel Pinsky, 'the Detroit-est of all the local Detroit pizzas.'" - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Love this place. The atmosphere is very chill. I came here for an art show and it did not disappoint. Tight fit for the amount of people it can fit. There is also a patio area the makes for a perfect picnic feel. Please knock on bathroom doors before entering and yes it is wheelchair accessible. Special shout out to Tiara whom gave great service. 100/100

Good brews, great staff, good location. Everyone was ordering pizza so it must be pretty good. Ghetto blaster on tap:-) the Czech beer was amazing as well.

Enjoyed a Friday afternoon sandwich and ale at Motor City Brewing Works. I ordered the Frank's Buffalo Sandwich, which was quite tasty. It had the Buffalo wing flavour, but it wasn't overwhelming. The chicken was nice and tender. I paired the sandwich with a Ghettoblaster Ale, which complemented the flavour of the sandwich quite nicely. The service was great, the bartender even replaced my buddy's Summer Beer, unprompted, because he said the original pour was too soon after replacing the keg. 🍺😀 The restaurant is a pleasant place to be on a summer afternoon, with a nice patio. Recommended!

Motor City has stood the test of time. It’s won my heart over and over again. Although I have to admit I only get the Ghettoblaster beer and the Mary Did Have pizza. The beer is just a good English style mild ale but it’s subtly pairs perfect with the pizza. Mary Did Have a little lamb… a LOT of lamb! And… Olive oil Garlic, mint, and pine nuts Feta cheese Tomatoes Zatar spice Labne kiefer cheese Fresh cucumber. This could be my #1 pizza in the world! Consistently year over year the pizza has the best chew on the crust and flavors that make your mouth feel like it just got f’d in the best way possible. This one goes to 11 folks.

This is one of our favorite spots in the city. It’s so cozy and welcoming. They play Motown music which helps add to the warm atmosphere. The service is always great/ They have THE BEST wood fired pizzas, their dough is on point and they have every topping you can imagine- and they don’t skimp! Their beer is delicious and their tasting portions are generous. We had a chorizo pizza that was on special and it was super flavorful. Love this spot.

Great eating/drinking experience and some free parking downtown. Love it. No fire sprinklers, so keep an eye out for exits because this is a wood structure. We had four of their beers and each of hs enjoyed them. The pizza was a pleasant change from standards pizza. We opted for the Mary Did Have One. The crust was a perfect texture, and the flavor of the lamb was great. Definitely enjoyed our visit. Will have to visit again to enjoy the outdoor seating.

Nice place. The salad was delicious!!!! The baked wings were just ok. Spinach soup was good. The beers were cold. The bartender was a sweetheart. He let me try several beers before I ordered one. The gin one was absolutely delicious and refreshing! (I'm not a gin fan either!) Upon arriving, there's a guy charging for parking, but you don't have to pay if you're eating at restaurant.

Tucked away off the beaten path in Detroit lies Motor City Brewing Works—a vibrant hidden gem that feels like your neighbor's cozy basement rec room where the drinks flow freely and the tunes never stop. As soon as I entered the colorful space adorned in classic rock memorabilia, I sensed the communal vibe from the mix of regulars belting Journey at the bar. I settled into a vinyl booth with a couple locally-brewed hard ciders in hand as “Sweet Home Alabama” played faintly over the speakers, setting the mood perfectly for getting into the spirit of Motor City. While I sipped, I dove into the menu of brick-oven fired pizzas which came highly recommended. The generously loaded options didn’t disappoint, But the true star that didn’t disappoint bar was the hot crab and Michigan Cidar paired with buttery toasted pita points. Between the hidden location, handcrafted beers flowing, sing-along oldies soundtrack, and delicious grub, Motor City Brewing Works captures a distinctly Detroit vibe." I’ll definitely be making the trek back to get my fill of Motor City cheer and some of the best pizza I’ve tasted in the D!
