We had our first meal here during the New York snowstorm this week, and it was such a heartwarming experience. The weather was freezing cold, but the complimentary hot tea was absolutely delicious and warmed us right up. Every single dish we ordered was amazing. Before we left, Steven kindly gave us an umbrella, which truly touched us. During Chinese New Year, we really felt the warmth and hospitality, it was so moving. We came back again today for dinner. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived, but the front desk staff did their absolute best to arrange a table for us. After we were seated, Steven happened to be the one helping us again. This time, we ordered entirely based on his recommendations and every dish was outstanding. This is honestly the best Chinese food and the best service we’ve experienced in North America. Highly, highly recommend! Thank you, Steven!

Food and drink here feels refreshing and tasty. Service was great, very attentiv. We got the pork belly with cucumber and some oil sauce, egg drop soup, and lobster mapo tofu. My favorite was the egg drop soup as it tasted great and their use of veggies to keep things refreshing is great. Lobster was sweet and great, but the tofu was a bit at the bland side. Would come again! Their lychee mints are yummy

The restaurant offers good Chinese food with an elevated feel that appeals to different demographics. The dumplings in chillies oil is a classic dish, they are somewhere between wontons and siu mai. I believe the filling is shrimps due to its signature crunch bite feel. The chillies oil is spicy, salty and savory. The grilled beef ribs are my favorite because its fun to eat. Staff puts on a show and torches the beef at the table. The beef comes with a bbq like sauce and fluffy buns. Mapo tofu comes in a heavy stone bowl. The dish has a good ratio mix of silken tofu and ground beef. The flavor is balanced, however, it doesn't have that signature szechuan numbing feel. The szechuan double cooked pork is juicy, tender with slight crispy edges. The dish is good; but despite the name, signature szechuan spiciness is no where to be found. House steamed crab is huge; can be served for 2 people. Presentation is impressive with the dungeon crab lays on a bed of sticky rice with bonito flakes sprinkled on top. The crab is delicious but is also a lot a work to extract, it's exacerbated by the steam method that causes the meat to stick to the shell. Sticky rice has nice spongy, sticky texture and is well seasoned, very umami, savory, sweet. Drinks are good. I like the different non-traditional specialty cocktails they offer. The restaurant is very popular and is usually booked for dinner. It's best to go for lunch or get reservation ahead of time. The space may seem small at first glance but the restaurant actually has 2 floors. The place is nicely decorated with interesting elements, like roof tiles, giant ink brushes, etc. Staffs are very helpful, polite and friendly.

Well deserved 5 stars! 好吃服务又好！ Servers are super friendly. They got birthday songs. Servers went about and beyond getting manager to approve free desserts for birthday. I don’t remember their names, or I will mention them here. A young gentleman and elder gentleman, and a nice lady.

This restaurant has been on my radar, and walked by after a show. Soon as you walk in great atmosphere, relaxing music. Most important, tasty flavorful food and warm and friendly service. The menu is heavy on spice and very extensive. You had me on steamed whole fish! I will definitely return and have something more exotic next time!

Loved this place. It was so hard to choose what to order, but I settled on their Green Pepper Mao Xue Wang (毛血旺) which was perfect for warming the body in this below-zero weather. The atmosphere was casual but delightful. I loved the traditional wooden interior and soft lighting. A great place to come with friends, family, or co-workers. Excellent menu for lovers of Szechuan and spicy cooking, and for offal afficionados! This place is kinda perfect for couples who like spicy organ meats (you know who you are). Staff were helpful and respectful. They stopped me from ordering way too much food (I'll just have to come back soon to try out more of the menu...)

Wow! Everything was amazingly flavorful fresh & savory. Spice level is great & they’re non alcoholic options were lovely. Texture was great, and the variety was very good. Great authentic restaurant, good service & fairly priced.

I was here with family and we absolutely loved the overall experience. 1st of all, I would like to shout out kudos to our server, Shirley. She was very attentive, personal and compassionate. She took out time to explain different dishes and which authenticity those align to. The service was fast. The decor is amazing and relaxing. The restroom is spot clean. Adjacent table was celebrating a birthday and it was amazing to witness how the staff put their efforts to make it special for them - it shows how obsessed everyone is for their customers. I had also forgot my aligners and on table and they carefully boxed and labelled them and handed over to me following day. I have recommended this place to my friends, colleagues and family. A few went already and came back with amazing experiences!

I've been to their downtown location but first time at this location. The decor definitely adds to the vibe here. Two floor and you check in on the first floor. The 2nd floors seems to be bigger and more seating. Service was good too. I was with a large group and they were very accommodating. The food was delicious and the presentation was amazing as well. Everything looked delicious.

Mountain House is a NYC staple when it comes to Sichuan food. With two locations in Manhattan, this spot in Times Square has stunning Chinese interior and is a reliable spot when it comes to authentic Sichuan cuisine. Service here is excellent and fairly quick. When I came, I got their swinging pork belly, wontons in chicken soup, mapo tofu, la zi chicken, and drunken jelly (for dessert). I absolutely loved their dumplings and their la zi chicken. Everything comes in a good portion and great value for the price. Loved ending the meal with their refreshing jelly, and I would definitely come back.

Not just another Chinese restaurant, but an experience in dinner. Along Manhattan's famous Restaurant Row (46th Ave), Mountain House is an authentic Szechuan restaurant where you're greeted warmly by members of the staff in a well appointed dining room. My wife and I enjoyed a range of dishes in the beautiful first floor dining room (2nd floor is equally beautiful). We started with complimentary hot green tea along with Beef Sour Soup. The soup's broth is both sour and very spicy while the meat is very tender and delicious. We also had my favorite dish, Kung Pao Chicken which is loaded with peanuts and quite tasty. To round out our meal we had a few dumplings and fresh steamed rice. Definitely a destination restaurant that I highly recommend if you're looking for authentic Szechuan cuisine.

The interior is very pretty (although I like the Boston interior more). Good service as well! I really enjoyed the fu-qi special and the swing pork belly. The mapo tofu was good too but nothing too special. I liked the numbing spice in the tofu! The drinks were decent but a little strong for me (so that can be a plus if you prefer stronger drinks :p).

I liked this place! Me and my friends needed a late dinner option after a long day out. We put our name on the waitlist and waited around 30 minutes for a party of 4. The restaurant is surprisingly bigger than I expected since they have seating on the top floor. We ordered the green beans, ma-po tofu, swing pork belly, la-zi chicken, beef stew with potatoes, and a couple cocktails, I got the endless summer one. I loved all the food, my favorite was the beef stew with potatoes! I could pass on the swing pork, I just don't like pork that much but that's just personal preference lol.

First and foremost, y'all need to either have reservations or be prepared to join the waitlist. There is always a line and a wait. Today, it took us 1.5hr to be sat but that was fine because we were browsing stores nearby to pass time. There's also complimentary sweet tea while you're waiting if you choose to wait. The waitlist will text or call you when your turn is next. They have a timed seating of 1.5hrs but I still recommend this place for all group sizes. Because our wait took so long, we each got to choose a drink from the soft drinks or house special section. The service is on point here with people checking in on whether you liked the food, bringing new plates, more napkins, more tea, etc. You also get wet wipes after your meal. On the food, this is high quality Sichuan food. Everything we ordered had tons of pepper and numbing spice and we loved it. Note that you have to order rice on the side - not included with the entrees. The star for me was the bass, the flesh was so delicate and the fish was super fresh. The scallion and ginger was refreshing. My friends enjoyed the long beans and la zi chicken - super super crispy. The beef dish we ordered was also super tender and there was a bed of bean sprouts underneath which was delicious. The chicken stew has great flavor and the taro it came with was perfectly cooked. Highly recommend this restaurant and the restrooms are so damn clean and even have mouthwash.

When I think of the top regional cuisines defining NYC's Chinese food scene these days, I mostly think of Shanghainese restaurants, Yunnan noodles, and an increasingly large presence of Dongbei and Uighur cooking. I'd venture to guess there are fewer Szechuan restaurants today than there were in the late 90s. But Mountain House is one of the few restaurants bucking the trend, having brought a fresh, more authentic take on the region's food to Manhattan diners, with dishes like mala fish that previously were harder to come by. For a vegetarian, the options here are somewhat limited. I tried the mapo tofu which they offered without any beef, salted corn with duck egg yolk, and a stir-fried cabbage dish. Everything was quite flavorful, although I wish there had been a few more options.

This place takes Sichuan to another level. The diced chicken with lotus roots had plenty of heat, but then four other flavors of spice kicked in from various peppers. My wife and I were impressed and I thought of some of the better curry dishes I have had. We ordered it "regular," with the thought that when you say mild or medium some of the flavor (spice) ends up being skipped. The sizzling crispy tofu was gently sweetened and true to the Chinese standard of being light and airy when you bite into it. The sauce was mild compared to the diced chicken dish and the crispiness was medium. Edamame flavor of fresh soy bean came through as well.

First time going there and it did not disappoint, now I want to try the famous OG location! Food was great, mapo tofu, Flounder boil were the highlights for me....

This was definitely my favorite restaurant I ate at on my last visit back to New York, which is high praise in a city full of delicious things. It was a bit of a wait even with a reservation, but I really didn't mind because the food tasted so good. The salted egg yolk corn is amazing and exactly the kind of food I love - so so delicious. Swinging pork belly and roasted cauliflower was also really good. My friends have been here so they know what's good so everything on the table was yummy, but these were my favorites. And then jasmine milk tea pudding was so yum and a perfect dessert. Also it's cute in there.

This place is POPULAR! Came at 9 PM on a Friday night and there was still an hour wait. The host/manager was extremely nice and let us get seated a little earlier. All the servers were also super friendly and kind. La Zi chicken: Generous portion size. We got mild spicy so it wasn't overly spicy, but still flavorful. Green pepper Mao Xue Wang: Very generous amount of meats inside. I specifically really liked the duck blood -- the texture was very smooth and it was extremely flavorful from the soup. I prefer this dish over the normal Mao Xue Wang because it still has the numbing chili but without the excessive amount of chili oil. Spicy steamed bass: We dug into the fish so quickly I forgot to take a picture! I appreciated how they separated the meat from the bones for you. The fish was tender and perfectly cooked and nicely infused with the soy sauce. Stir fried potatoes: One of the better stir fried potatoes I've had! I enjoyed the extra kick and spices. Stir fried string beans: I personally really enjoyed this dish also. My friends thought it was a little lacking and their least favorite dish of the night but still good. Overall this place is one of the rare restaurants that I feel live up to their hype. Despite how busy and stressful their Friday night was, the manager and servers were extremely patient and friendly.

Excited for have Mountain House in Hells Kitchen as I became a fan with the food here after my initial visit to the one in Flushing. My all-time favorite dishes are the sour cabbage & fish (get it in filet), swing pork belly, and stir fried Chinese long bean. The prices are very reasonable especially for being in midtown west. During my most recent visit, the server Steven overheard it was my birthday, gave me a beautiful chopstick and wooden spoon set as a present to celebrate my special day. It was such an unexpected gesture. While I haven't had any cocktails here, the menu does look interesting.

I usually love mountain house and it was still good but i found the la zi chicken to be underwhelming. the pieces were too small so i felt like i was just eating super fried chicken. also, we had a reservation but they didn't seat us till 30 mins after that and it was super chaotic. we still had to fight to get noticed to get a table and then service was really slow.

Sichuan Chinese, NYC We had an early dinner Friday before our broadway show. The restaurant was very cozy and our waiter was very helpful choosing a beef and fish dishes which weren't too spicy. The hot tea and spicy cabbage came out right away. The pot of tea was a good quality but the pickled cabbage was very spicy. Dumplings in chili oil was tasty but very spicy. We asked the spice level of La zi chicken to be less spicy but it was still spicy but liked the crispness of the chicken. The Clayton beef and potatoes were tender with soysauce/star anise flavor, stir fried lotus root and celery added crunchy texture, crispy sizzling tofu was soft inside and we really enjoyed the steamed green spicy bass in a lot of leek/green pepper soy sauce. We asked certain dishes to be prepared with less sauce and less spiciness. We enjoyed our dinner before the show!

The service was excellent! The waiters assisted with pouring the tea, and our soups. The food was tasty, and not tremendously overpriced. They also packed up our leftovers into very nice takeout containers and bags when we left.

Good food & responsive servers. We got the swinging pork belly appetizer (easily my favorite of the dishes ordered), a nonspicy fish filet soup with suan cai (sour veggies, chinese style) that I quite enjoyed /was a decent size, chicken w lotus root (a smaller portion size than I expected for the price // fairly spicy as a warning) & the taro mochi dessert (also yummy). The servers kept asking us how the food was and refilling our teas which was great. I also thought the decor was nice - great place to bring a date, friends or family if they like szechuan food! I would come back

One of the better Chinese options I've had in the NYC area, and especially one of the best Sichuan. Spices and flavors were on point for every single dish. They've got the service aspect done well too. We had a pescatarian in our group and were able to make modifications like substituting the meat-based broth for the fish in sour cabbage to water. The flavors were still on point and the flounder was soooo tender and perfectly cooked. We also got the pork belly swing, crispy sizzling tofu, and stir-fried shredded potatoes. I really enjoyed every dish, and even the tofu was not just a basic unflavored crispy version. Suggestion...keep the sauce that comes with the pork belly swing, add it as extra chili oil to your dishes if you like! Will definitely seek to come back here again.

For my solo date in New York, I was recommended by my mom's friends to check out this place. I ordered the mala intestines and they have a spicier and a more mild option so I ordered the spicer option. This dish had a good balance between the spice and numbing flavors and also had onions, peppers, and garlic as well. There was complimentary hot jasmine tea and pickled spices cabbage. I went during a weekday afternoon so it was not too busy. There aren't too many seats so I could imagine evenings can be busier. The service was quick and the staff were attentive.

This was an awesome dining experience. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was great. We ordered the swinging pork belly and the beef ribs. The beef ribs were sooooo good and the presentation was awesome. The sauce it came with was out of this world. The swinging pork belly was decent, but I would prefer pork belly that's more cooked and the sauce was definitely mild(I ended up using the sauce from the beef ribs). The cocktails were strong and beautifully presented. I absolutely would return and recommend!

The ambiance was amazing. This location is brighter than the east village location, so I like this better. The food is consistently good, and the tea was also tasty. The service was pretty attentive. This is overall a good place for dinner to catch up with friends.

Make sure you make a reservation. We didn't but the hostess told us to go in at 9:45 & she was happy to get us seated. The chilli chicken was amazing! Our server was super nice & packed me a few bags of their delicious jasmine tea & the special chilli oil!

I met some coworkers here for dinner while in NYC. We had a fantastic experience! The food was amazing, the cocktails were awesome, and we enjoyed great service for our group of 5. I definitely recommend if you want something other than the typical American Chinese food experience.

Me and several crew dudes just crushed Mountain house. Tongue tingling, mouth numbing delicious! The food was incredible. We had it all! Hot n sour soup, numbing chicken, peppercorn beef, double cooked pork, swing pork belly, La-zi chicken, dumplings in chili oil, spicy frog lover , Ma-la lobster and teppan shrimp. All amazing!! Great lunch ! Most certainly will be back again.

I cannot rate this place enough!! This was my second time going to Mountain House, first time to this location. The location is walkable from Times Square. We ordered the Mapo-tofu, Kung pao chicken, and pork slices soup. A lot of the dishes are spicy and have a good kick, the Mapo-tofu had a little bit of a numbing spice and it was so delicious. I will come back to NY just to eat here again! The appetizer is pickled cabbage, so delicious! The service was great, very polite and proper making my friends and I content to be there. The server also helped us with suggestions on what to order or how spicy the food is. The ambiance is great at this restaurant, the decorations are very oriental. The seating was very clean, the lighting was bright but not too bright. It was perfectly suited to what we are eating.

This is my third time at Mountain House but my first time in their midtown location (I've been to their East Village and Flushing locations, but it's been a few years). It's super busy even on a weekday night - luckily we had a reservation so we didn't have to wait. Every table is served jasmine tea, which was very fragrant, and a side of picked cabbage in chili oil. We ordered some of their staples - swing pork belly, la-zi chicken, stir-fried long beans, and the boiled fish in chili oil. Everything was delicious, but my least favorite was probably the swing pork belly (I've had it before and thought it was just ok but it was my friend's first time so she wanted to try it). The pork is a bit on the dry side. The la-zi chicken was good but the chicken pieces were on the smaller side so it didn't feel like we got much out of that dish. No complaints about the boiled fish and the long beans - very solid!

Mountain House is considered one of the best Szechuan spots in the city, even as they have grown to multiple locations throughout the city. Location of this new spot is near the theatres, which I love as it adds a solid spot for a pre show meal in an area devoid of many good options. This was my first time so we tried alot of the classics. Swing Pork Belly was my favorite and definitely not just a social media food. Loved it. The La Zi chicken was fine, but pieces of chicken were super tiny. The Mama black fish "soup" was delicious and the most intense szechuan flavor I've ever tasted. Recommend getting some rice to go with this. Also, definitely get the jasmine tea pudding for dessert. Our waiter convinced us to try and loved the intense tea flavor, a great way to end.

Never had Szechuan food before this! Delicious flavors and a great vibe as well. Will be back next time I'm in New York!

Mountain house is always a hit. The ambiance is so peaceful and service is friendly. We started with a dumpling with chili oil and pork belly on the swing. The pork belly is always my favorite, and I can't come here without ordering it. The dipping sauce isn't too spicy but still very flavorful. The pork and cucumber combination is refreshing and tasty. The La Zi chicken is super crispy and extremely spicy but delicious every time.

Honestly, was very excited about eating at this restaurant after reading the reviews and seeing the quaint ambience, but was thoroughly disappointed. The food was all mid with some dishes being too salty or the meat and egg drop soup only really having the taste of cilantro... additionally, there was hardly any heat or Szechuan peppercorn flavor, it was very disappointing especially for an establishment with a reputation for superb Szechuan food. The only real redeeming quality was the excellent service I would not go again. I would not spend my money on this.

If you're looking for authentic sichuan cuisine, this place is it! The portions are generous and spicy means spicy. Our favorite dishes were the La-zi chicken, stir fried cabbage, string beans w/eggplant and the pork trotter soup! You really can't go wrong with any of the dishes here. The best part is that everything is quite affordable. The staff are very welcoming and we loved sitting on the second floor!

I've always wanted to try the East Village Mountain House, so was excited to try the Midtown one. Our group got the below dishes: Swing Pork Belly La-Zi Chicken Mapo Tofu Fried Rice with Special Vegetable Pea Shoots Out of the dishes, my favorite was the Swing Pork Belly and Pea Shoots. The Swing Pork Belly combined with the cucumber and sauce was a combo that I didn't expect to like so much. The Lazi Chicken was also good, though they put so much pepper corn that I felt like I had to fish for chicken bits even after we had asked for less spice. Overall, food was quite solid and would definitely try some of the other things on the menu. Ambience was nice; it's tucked away on Restaurant Row with decent seating options on the two floors with nice aesthetics. Prices are also not too bad, especially if you split with a group. (Though I would recommend ordering a healthy amount of dishes since the portions aren't particularly big) Would definitely come back in the future to try other dishes!

Stunning decor, impeccable service, and mouth-watering food. Highly recommend getting non-spicy dishes as well otherwise your stomach will be on fire.

As reliable as ever, this new location of Sichuan mountain house is setting the standard again in NYC (authentic) Sichuan food. The peppercorn fish in clay pot dish the waiter recommended was amazing (so good I forgot to snap a pic). Duck and cuttlefish appetizers were great as well. A lot of the dishes were extremely umami from the peppercorn and chilis they season with. Spice level can be adjusted which tells you it's not premade. The veggie dishes I tried did leave something to be desired. Peach jelly dessert was a refreshing finish. All in all, there were enough hits to justify coming back, even with the misses. Probably as good as authentic Sichuan food gets, on this continent.

My husband likes this place. It was definitely too spicy for me. Duh - it's a Szechuan restaurant - but I thought it was way heavier on the peppercorn and spice than other Szechuan restaurants and not as many non-spicy options to choose from. The Dungeness crab with sticky rice wasn't bad - same for the snow pea shoots. The chili dumplings and Mapo tofu were way too spicy for me but my husband liked them. Service also wasn't great, but maybe they are still working out some kinks as it opened fairly recently. They weren't good about refilling our water or clearing our plates, and when we flagged someone down to do so, they often forgot. A lot of dishes also were brought to the wrong table but quickly redirected to the right table. Given how popular the original location was, I guess I am not that surprised how booked this place was already. We walked in as a party of 2 on a Saturday at 3:30pm and there was a short wait. When we left around 4:30, we heard the hostess on the phone telling people the restaurant was booked the rest of the night.

Really authentic szechuan cuisine-- they definitely don't shy away from using the mala spices!! - Swing pork belly: 10/10 (I loved the sauce that it comes with! Perfectly spicy and sweet. The cucumber also adds a nice fresh touch.) - La zi chicken: 10/10 (fantastic chicken with a really big dose of mala and spice. It was super yummy and pretty spicy) - Fish in chili oil: 9/10 (it wasn't as spicy as it looks, but definitely mala heavy. It was good, but I've had better.) - Fried rice with szechuan special greens: 100/10 (one of the best fried rices I've had in a long while! So glad we got this instead of plain white rice) Service was great-- fast and friendly. Ambiance was really nice too-- very calm and chill so great to come for a date, with friends, or with family. I'll definitely be back to try out their other dishes once I'm craving a dose of mala!

restaurant is very nice, awesome ambiance. the servers are very friendly and quick with service. all the food was good (personally i dont love too much peppercorn so all the dishes started to taste the same). i really enjoyed the tofu, the pork/cucumber dish was a little bland to me. the cocktails were good but took way too long to make, i wanted to cancel it because by the time we got them, we were about ready to leave. i may not be back because of personal preference, but if you like peppercorn flavors, this is a great place!

Wow. Mountain House was probably the best Chinese restaurant I've tried in the city so far. The spot was super cutely decorated - it felt like you were dining within a traditional Chinese hut. The menu also offers a plethora of authentic Szechuan dishes. My favorites were the swinging pork belly, green pepper pork, and the beef ribs with buns. The portions were big and the prices were reasonable. The service was also great. My family really enjoyed this spot. Highly recommend!

If you're looking for authentic Sichuan cuisine that doesn't hold back on mala and spice, this is the spot! Can be very very very spicy to many. We ordered the Swing Pork Belly, Fish in Chili Oil, and La Zi Chicken, and each dish brought something unique to the table. Swing Pork Belly - This dish stood out the most! The pork belly was tender, and the sauce was the perfect balance of spicy and sweet. The cucumber on the side added a refreshing crunch, wish there was more. La Zi Chicken - Super flavorful with tons of numbing peppercorns. The chicken itself was crispy and well-seasoned, though we did find ourselves digging through the peppers for the pieces. Some pieces were also dry. Definitely a popular dish! Fish in Chili Oil - Despite looking intimidatingly spicy, the heat wasn't as intense as expected, but it was packed with deep mala flavor. The fish was delicate and soaked up the broth nicely. Was very spicy for us. Had to drink a few cups of water and sweat a bit lol. The ambiance is great, with a clean and modern interior. Service was fast and attentive, even with how busy they were. Prices are reasonable for the quality, though portions lean a bit larger.

Ambiance (5/5): The interior is beautifully decorated. It was nice and bright, low volume that you could hear each other. The decorations felt immersive and welcoming. Service (5/5): You can tell it's great service when the wait staff all have walkie talkies! We were seated for our reservation time immediately but right beside the entrance. We asked the hostess if we could move away from the cold draft and she said all the tables were accounted for. However, she offered 1 hand warmer for each of us!! Wow, never had that offered before. Cocktails took more time to arrive than our mains and were super strong! Food: Be warned that the Sichuan food here is extremely spicy, even the mild option! While I was okay, my other guests found it way too spicy for their palate. Swing Pork Belly (3/5): The cold slices were unmarinated and required the dipping sauce for flavor. This was a nice picturesque dish but nothing to write home about. For those that can't handle spice, this was the only dish that wasn't spicy that we ordered. Beef slices in hot and sour soup (3/5): This was a unique flavor that I was not expecting. The soup was sour but also reminded me of traditional Chinese medicine or something that my parents made for me when I was sick. Although the beef was tender, I found it a bit too sour for my taste. Mapo Tofu (5/5): The tofu had a nice film of chili oil and the minced beef gave the dish some more flavor. It went lovely when mixed with white rice. Pepper Chicken (4/5): The cubed chicken pieces were all tender. The mild flavor of the hot peppers caused a numbing effect. I thought it tasted great!

I really appreciated this place! I came here with two dear friends in between some Broadway shows. We really enjoyed our meal! Our server was awesome and made some great, unique, and honest recommendations. We ordered a ton of different dishes, taking our server up on his recommendations. While I personally wasn't in love with every dish on the table, it was extremely evident that the food is very high quality. This place has a reputation to uphold, after all! The flavors were very different than your typical cheap American-Chinese food, in the best way. The ambiance is very moody! I loved our table, and how there was some separation between us and others in the restaurant. Overall awesome experience, would love to be back!

Elegant Szechuan place on restaurant row. Everything was beautiful - from the menu to the insulated to go back. Came here to celebrate a birthday and had a great time. The service was prompt and food came out quick - only nit is it took 5 minutes longer than normal to get the bill after they cleared our table.

Not sure Mountain House needs any more good press but I'm going to add some. We arrived early for our reservation and were seated immediately. The food was superb, authentic, delicious. First time, so we did the swinging pork belly, and the combination cold appetizer (bang bang chicken, duck tongue, and bamboo shoots). Followed with fish fillets with green and red Szechuan pepper (superb), mapo tofu (correct and excellent), green beans, and wontons with chili oil. Everything with complex tasty seasoning. We lingered for 2.5 hours before they gently asked us to leave - totally fair! Finally I want to note the excellent and charming service. We'll be back - and next time will order more adventurously!

I had really high expectations of Mountain House, and I walked away a little disappointed with my meal. Perhaps I was in an uncharitable mood as we had to wait a while for our table, despite having a reservation. I should say that, other than that, the service was very good. Food came out quickly. The la-zi chicken was my favorite -- just that perfect combination of texture, salt, spice. Everything else was fine, but not amazing: the swinging pork belly, the beef ribs with steamed buns. Perhaps it was the intense flavor of the chicken that made everything else sort of underwhelming, I'm not sure. I'd go back, just to try other things. But I'm not sure I'll be in a rush to do so. Spicy food isn't my husband's thing, and while he tolerated the chicken, it was a struggle (poor guy). The other items weren't spicy (or rather, one could add the pepper oil to one's own specification). So for folks who fear spice, this place is still do-able.

This place really is spicy. We had the pork belly and beef tongue appetizers. Beef tongue won on flavor though pork belly won on presentation. However, all the dishes won on presentation. For main courses, we had the pepper lovers chicken and mala prawns. Both were really good, though if you do not want to get spices on your hands, don't get the prawns. The pepper chicken had at least three different types of hot peppers, so good. We asked for everything to be very spicy and were sitting there sweating. Amazing. Also they started us off with kimchi and tea. Very nice. I'll definitely be back.

My friends and i had dinner at Mountain house while we were in New York visiting and it was an awesome experience. The food was authentic and delicious, and we were extremely satisfied with our meal. The staff was also very accommodating and friendly. Frankie was exceptionally polite and made our experience unforgettable. He deserves employee of the month! The entrees were shareable portions which was fun because we got to try a lot of different dishes. Highly recommend for large parties. Beautiful experience thank you Mountain House! Dont get the durian fruit unless you're strong.

Service was good. Appetizer cold dish was great. Obviously used house made fresh red chili oil. Only dish not so good was the chicken soup. A very strange taste of dried scallop. Should not be expected to see it in the chicken soup and it was too sweet.

The restaurant strikes the perfect balance in everything they do. All their food has left a positive impression. Nice employees. You can find both intimate and group seating. All aspects create enjoyment.
