Mountain Munchies

The food was so good. Was just driving around the parking lot and randomly spotted this gem. Customer service was great. The room was a little warm but not uncomfortable. The onion rings with ranch were some of the best I've ever had.

So glad we stopped at Mountain Munchies during our trip to Big Bear Lake! First off, the onion rings were amazing. I’m pretty picky with onion rings because I feel like so many places undercook them, but these were perfectly crisp! I got the Hungry Bear Club, and fair warning it’s massive, but so so good. The sourdough bread tasted so fresh and the waitress was very helpful with all her recommendations. 10/10 would go again!

Such a cool cafe - A hole in the wall type place with awesome diner vibes. Had about a 30 minute wait on New Year’s Eve for a party of 6 at lunch time and it was worth it. They were quick to take our order and food came out fast. Everything we ordered was delicious! We got the Snowbunny on squaw, Country Burger, Red White and Blue Waffles, and the Eggs Your Way. Definitely suggest for anyone including families with kids!

I’ve had a lot of Philly cheesesteaks in my life, and unfortunately, the one I had at Munchies in Big Bear was the worst by far. The meat was overcooked and dry to the point that I had to add ketchup just to get some flavor out of it — something I’ve never done with a cheesesteak before. The onions were diced too small and not seared long enough, so they lacked that caramelized taste you’d expect. Overall, the sandwich was disappointing and lacked the flavor and texture that makes a good Philly steak. Hoping it was just an off day, but I won’t be ordering it again. Also, just a heads-up: they don’t split checks, even for a small group like ours (just four people, two couples). Would’ve been helpful to know ahead of time.

When we arrived, there were four parties ahead of us, and it took about 20 minutes to get seated. Once seated, we were promptly served drinks, and our food arrived about 15 minutes after ordering. I had the Big Bear Club, while my friend tried the beef dip—it was her first time trying it, but it wasn’t really to her taste. We also shared a side of fries. The Big Bear Club was delicious, and the portion was generous, I could only finish half and took the rest to go. I’ll definitely be back to try other items on the menu!

I got the main hot sand which that they recommend, I’d recommend it 100/100 it was so good! Bread was good, all the toppings were great and the service was great as well! If you’re in big bear, stop here!

Delicious omelette! Sliced strawberries as well. My brother got the steak and eggs, also excellent, great local spot, friendly service, highly recommend 🙌🏼

Fantastic restaurant with a variety of dishes to choose from. This little “hole-in-the-wall” restaurant serves up quite a meal and the staff make you feel like you are welcome. Special kudos to Jay, our server today, who was friendly and very attentive to our needs. Located in a small shopping center, you need to look twice to even find the front door, but oh, will you be happy that you did. The food was plentiful and extremely tasty, we simply loved it. We had both the turkey and meatloaf dinners, and the serving portions were very large, and we had to take at least half of each meal to go since there was no way we could finish it all. Just remember if you come here to dine to bring a big appetite, because you are going to need it. Great food, great people and a good old down-to-earth atmosphere. There is plenty of parking right out in front of the restaurant so that should never be a problem.

Go to spot for comforting diner food! We've been here twice now and both times were great experiences. Service- 5/5: everyone working here is so friendly! Even on busy hectic days they're always so kind, attentive and patient. Love the vibe here. Feels like family. Munchie mountain burger- 4.5/5: holy cow their burgers are stacked! Could definitely split it with two people. Fresh delicious ingredients. They don't skimp on the avocado! I got my burger with beer battered fries and they were perfectly crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. Side of ranch was good! Country fried steak- 5/5: I didn't get this but my husband loved it! He cleaned his whole plate and left nothing behind. Country burger- 5/5: got this the first time I visited and wow! One of the best western burgers I've had! It was also huge but it was so good I stuffed it all down. Hot turkey sandwich- 5/5: my husbands order the first time and he was in love! I also got to try it and it was phenomenal. Turkey was so soft, the gravy was so good. Also huge portions but he scarfed it all down. We left with extremely full but happy bellies. Definitely recommend this place!

Wow!!!! My Ohana and I stopped here for dinner on 1/20/2024. The quaint little diner was perfect! But, the stars were the service and the food!!! I had the pot roast dinner....Let me tell you, that it melted in my mouth!!! I have never had a pot roast dinner that was made with pure perfection!! every thing on my plate was savory and filling! My Bradda and Sis really enjoyed there dinner as well! Savoring every bite . My sis had the Chicken Fried Steak and my Bradda had the Meat loaf. We couldn't have found a better place to have a wonderful cozy ,comfort dinner. The Staff were all pleasant making it that much more delightful!!! My favorite was the zucchini fries it must pry we ordered veggie burgers, onion, rings, and french fries. Everything tasted so good and fresh service was fast and easy. The waiter was also the cashier. I've never seen that before so props to him .the ambiance nice American dinner vibes family vibes very clean I'm so coming here soon !

A sandwich heaven. I got the big bear club (add avo) and it was it was exactly what I was craving. Service was friendly and quick (I got to-go). The portion was pretty big I ate half and saved the half for later. Can't wait to try more from them

I can't believe I hadn't reviewed my favorite spot in Big Bear! If you haven't been you're missing out. Portions are great and the food is fenomenal! Service is amazing and the staff are very kind and attentive. Last time my boo and I had to do a quick lunch during his break. They sat me down super quick and I was able to order and the food was out by the time my boo showed up. The place is always clean and I love seeing the history they share of big bear on their wall. Honestly all Cali American sandwiches and burgers this place is a must. Breakfasts are fire as well!

Massive sandwich for same price as a small regular sub at the corporate place next door plus you're supporting a small local business which is great. One sandwich is literally 2 meals! Fast friendly service

Excellent food here!! The picture included is my half of sandwich because there was no way I could finish it all in one meal!! Had the Goldminer (OMG!!), the Tuna Melt (WOW) and the homemade Meatball sub (Yummo!) and shared chili cheese fries (also enough for leftovers!) Everything about the food was phenomenal! Will definitely stop here again!

Good food! Service is ok I would definitely come back, but when they are busy and low staffed it takes quite a while... But they're busy because the food is good! I would definitely try it if I were you!

This place has so many good choices and its where the locals eat. Need I say more. Plenty of food and the server was very friendly and just a cool guy. I will be back the next time I'm up the mountain.

Went on a day trip to Big Bear with my friend, and this spot was one of the highlights of the trip! This little restaurant was inviting, clean, and quaint. The service was awesome (shoutout to Jay!), and the food was delicious! I got the Lifeguard with a side of potato salad--I already wish I could eat it again. 10/10 would recommend you stop here if you're in town and down for a sandwich.

This place puts Jersey Mikes to shame! My boyfriend and I stopped by yesterday around noon and were seated pretty fast despite it being almost a full house. The place itself was super cozy. As far as service goes, our server was really sweet and attentive! We ordered the snowforest and the flat lander sandwiches. Both were delicious and a lot bigger than what we expected. Next time, we'll do the half sandwich combo for sure.

Cute little place next to stater brothers. I got the Toboggan, (pastrami) it was taste husband got the beef plate- he liked it. Want to come back for breakfast. Food came out quick and our waitress was very attentive.

Strawberry and blueberry pancakes were MASSIVE. I've never had such large, fluffy pancakes before. They were so thick! You definitely get a bang for your buck here! Food quality and the service is EVEN BETTER! Big Bear is so cold, but the people working here are so warm and friendly. It's a small restaurant, but it's such a good one! Lots of parking and the booths are pretty spacious. Will definitely be returning when I'm in BB!

Family made a quick trip up to Big Bear, saw the reviews so we stopped by. We were not disappointed! One of the best sandwiches I have ever had. The bread was so soft, it was something else. Honestly we will be making the drive and coming back very soon! Almost forgot to take a pick, and took some big bites out of my sandwich :)

Our Airbnb recommended this place so we decided to check it out! I wasn't able to take a picture of everything we got, but we ordered the patty melt, chili cheese fries, and I had the Gold Miner Sandwhich. Although it's not a popular diner, it had a good homey and welcoming feel, especially after snowboarding on a Monday night. There was no busy line or wait, and the service was prompt. The server helped us with our appetizer Chili cheese fries, and was sure to check on our table multiple times! I loved my boyfriends choice of the patty melt. It was very savory and it helped with salty cravings we were having. I enjoyed the Goldminer Sandwhich. Overall a great experience if you don't want to wait in a long line and have delicious food!

Terrific food, terrific staff, and a wonderful owner. I've enjoyed this restaurant for many many years and every time I go in there, they greet me by my first name. Anyone of my YouTube fans who asks me where to get a good burger this is one of the top choices for sure this is my go to spot and they have so many choices of so much yummy food Please support this place because they deserve it Again really good food and really good and a very good location

My husband and I ordered and shared the Big Bear Club sandwich to share since they looked huge. It included turkey, bacon, swiss, lettuce, tomatoes and mayo. Instead of sourdough we went with Squaw. There was plenty of parking in the plaza and we had phoned ahead to put in our order. The employee there thought my husband was a local and asked how his work day was going... ;) Anyway, the sandwich was big enough for us to share. The bread was good and I could taste the turkey, but overall the sandwich needed a little "oomph". I'm not sure what was missing, maybe some vinegar or mustard. Maybe it would have been better if we had salt & vinegar chips on the side, but something was missing. Overall it was a good meal and they had so many other things on their menu to try.

When I lived and worked in Big Bear from 2005 - 2009, Mountain Munchies was my go to place for lunch. Their split pea soup was amazing. Now they serve breakfast, too and it was outstanding. I had sausage links and eggs with hash browns and my companion had a breakfast burrito. The food was yummy and the service was excellent. It was so nice to revisit an old friend Totally recommended and I would love to come back

Delicious tasting food, great service and lots of room for a party of 6! You can actually taste the flavor of the eggs! My kids simply loved the chicken fried steak!

Customer Service was good as I was getting a to go order. Decided on the meatball sub and it was a pretty solid choice. It tasted great. Usually when I go to Big Bear I just stop at McDonald's to keep it simple but I'm happy I stopped here.

Got the Smokey Bear and the Fried Zucchini Strips, 10/10. Highly recommend for a quick and tasty bite!

Small family owned establishment we've been eating at for the past 17 years. Everyone is friendly and always good coffee and excellent meals. All of the staff is very polite and attentive. We love it here.

Satisfaction! I truly believe in a little family run place. The honest food, kindly service, attention to details, and warm vibe is what makes this place such a gem. Shared the Snow Forest sandwich on squaw bread with the hubs, with their FABULOUS onion rings for the win! It was sensational! I almost never order coffee in restaurants, but I wanted a warm drink. I ordered a 1/2 Caffeine coffee and it was so smooth and full bodied, yum! Best meal all week. Our waiter told us Snow Forest and Reuben are his personal favorites. We will do the Reuben next time. Thanks Mountain Munchies for always being marvelous in every way.

Yummy! If you are hungry this is the place. Burgers come with more fries than I could eat. Country burger was delicious. Line to get in for lunch during the week is proof this place is worth the wait

I can't recommend the food. For instance the pancakes were undercooked, and the supposedly well done steak was raw. While the service was fast, a mandatory service fee was added to the bill. I would not come back to this place.

Recently, my husband and I stayed in Big Bear for 3 weeks. We were looking for a sandwich spot and thankfully we found this spot! They have THE BEST sandwiches! Seriously, DO NOT waste your time at the place next door (JMs) it's soooo much better!! The sandwiches are fresh, the portions are big and the bread is also great.

Small diner in the Stater Bros shopping center. Friendly service, good food and reasonable prices. They serve breakfast all day which is a big plus in my book. The breakfast burrito was good, and the blueberry pancakes were delicious! Would recommend and come back when we're in the area.

Wow!! The best sandwiches we have ever had. Not exaggerating. Highly recommend. The Big Bear Club my wife said is the sandwiches has ever had! The bread is fresh and perfectly toasted. The flavor on the Snow Forest is incredible and onion rings were crispy and delicious

I love this place. Small town feel 100 percent. The staff is amazing and friendly. The options on the menu are great for the whole family. Breakfast burritos are amazing! Ask for extra salsa, you won't regret it. The fried zucchini is lightly breaded. No one makes it like they do! You can even have a beer if you desire or a glass of wine. They make you feel at home here.

Friendly service... we were looking for a place to eat nearby the supermarket and found this place. We were seated immediately and promptly got our order taken. The kids enjoyed their sandwich and fries. Food was okay. My sandwich wasn't what I expected, but I knew I should have just ordered breakfast!

Toboggan pastrami sandwich was stacked high and delicious! They serve breakfast all day! The service was excellent even as it got crowded. We enjoyed this place before we stocked up on groceries at Stater Brothers nearby.

A lovely place for sandwiches to take on your home! We loved our Reuben and the grizzly was great with the dressing on the side! The staff was kind enough to wrap the Reuben to make it easier to toss in a backpack! Will definitely be back!

We were with our two friends on our way to Jersey Mike's but I saw Mountain Munchies in the corner of my eye and suggested we try a new place. I do not regret that decision at all! We ordered the snow bunny on squaw bread and the big bear club which came on sourdough (my favorite). One, the sandwiches are big and two, absolutely delicious! Customer service is above and beyond as well. I had ordered onion rings as well but when we got to the lake is when I realized they were missing. I called the store, he immediately remembered who I was and even my name (it's not a common name). He not only had already refunded the onion rings, he even said to feel free to come back and the onion rings will be on him. Not only would I recommend this place for their delicious food but for the amount of amazing service you receive! I will be back anytime I'm in Big Bear. That's for sure!

Needed a fresh, delicious cheese burger, you know with piled high lettuce, tomato, 1,000 island dressing. Well this is the place. It was so juicy and delicious. Plus the French Fries we're hot a little salt oh man so good!! Hubby had a chicken fried steak with over easy eggs cooked to perfection. The gravy was so tasty hot and mouth watering. Even the soda was solid!

The staff at mountain munchies are always kind and welcoming. I'm a breakfast guy so that's what I eat most when there, but they also have amazing sandwiches. The Ruben on sourdough is excellent. Aaaannnnd they have Apple Pay for those who do partake in commerce in the 21st century.

came around 12 and was pretty busy; we sat for dine in and waited about 15 minutes:) the service was decent. the sandwich lived up to the hype of "best sandwiches in big bear" and i enjoyed it very much! very filling and worth the price ! as for the breakfast, it was satisfactory. though the biscuits and gravy was very peppery and came out pretty cooled (almost room temp) highly recommend the sandwiches but you can probably get breakfast else where :) get the onion ring

Excellent sandwiches using homemade bread. The Sailboat, add bacon, sub provolone was excellent. The Mega Breakfast with Chicken Fried Steak was great. The pancake had great flavor but was overmixed and thus a bit rubbery. If they would just mix the batter less then it would be great.

Whipped cream and fruit added to their French toast is a great way to start my day. Service is always wonderful. You can request substitutes like tomatoes for hash browns. Love their onion rings. Really one of the best I've ever had.

Love MM! Been coming here since I was in high school, now that I'm living up here, I'm so happy it's local. No more hours long drives for me to get my fix. Staff is awesome and the quality can't be beat. Whether you are dining in or taking to go, you'll be satisfied! I have a few favorite sandwiches... Or sometimes I like to take a seat and have some yummy breakfast. The dining room isn't huge, but I always feel like I have tons of privacy...

The food is great,and the service is awesome. How the food server manages to keep up without roller skates is beyond me! And she does it with a smile and a happy greeting for the customers! She's one of the best things about the place!

My boyfriend and I are on a little getaway in big bear for a few nights. We are always on a mission to find and dine at new places. Mountain munchies did not disappoint at all. We ordered some orange juice to drink. OJ tasted great! To eat we ordered a waffle combo and a French toast combo. Both plates were delicious, but we did sub one of our items for hashbrown and that tasted good too. Keep an eye out for our potential dinner return. Service was kind, polite, quick, and friendly.
