Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery: A Must-Visit (Just Bring Cash!) Mountain Sun Pub and Brewery is an absolute gem in Boulder! My recent visit with my family was fantastic, solidifying its spot as a must-try. The food is absolutely amazing. My wife and I both had burgers that were cooked perfectly and incredibly flavorful. Our kid devoured the nachos, declaring them "the best ever!" Everything was top-notch and clearly made with quality ingredients. Beyond the delicious food, the service was wonderful – attentive without being overbearing – and the atmosphere was lively and inviting, making for a truly enjoyable dining experience. Just a heads-up: Mountain Sun is cash or check only. Make sure you hit the ATM before you go so you can enjoy every bit of this incredible spot without a hitch! There is an ATM in the back.

Just the service alone here was absolutely amazing. Seriously the best I’ve probably ever had! Free samples of beer and the server even gave us fries on the house. The environment was so welcoming and we absolutely loved it. My fiancé said the bison burger was 10/10.

Stopped in Boulder for some lunch, drinks and people watching. Decided to hit this MSPB, and made a good choice. We ordered Bison Burger, Classic Burger, SOB Burger and all had home fries and chips n salsa. All burgers were spot on as ordered and loved my Bison Burger... when in Colorado right!! Fries were soooo good, can't beat fresh cut home fries. Chips all made fresh - salsa was very mild.. ordered a side of the roasted hatch chilies to add, but still didn't have much kick. They did have a hot sauce as well, but we like it hot hot - so if you like mild this is for you. Food, Service, Atmosphere - ALL VERY GOOD!!! We would come back here for sure on our next visit.

Three little outdoor patio tables, dinner has carpet floors that adds to the warmer atmosphere. Clean relaxed dining fresh food.

Omg this place is so good! Sierra was amazing as our server. I’m a vegetarian and they had so many vegetarian and vegan options. Get the vegan chili (it’s perf). Great way to end the day coming back from the Rocky’s. Will return if we’re ever in town!!! I do recommend calling to place a reservation if it’s dinner time. The place is small and seems to get really busy.

Honestly, best customer service I’ve ever experienced in any establishment ever. The staff were incredibly nice. The food was delicious. If I lived closer, I’d make this one of my go-to spots! Remember to bring old fashioned cash or checks because they don’t take credit cards :-)

THEY ARE CASH OR CHECK ONLY. They have an ATM in the back or they can send the check to you and you can pay them later like an I owe you. I didn’t try the food but the beers were great especially the higher ABV ones. Cute little hipster spot with really great service!

I really love the burgers and beer at this place. The Date Night Burger is my favorite but the others I've tried are also good. Be aware they have a no-credit-card policy so bring cash.

The date night burger was very good. Perfectly medium, crunchy slaw and apple. Fries are mid. It's nice that everyone does every job but that also means there were 4 people working with us. Someone to take our order, someone to drop the beer, someone else to drop the food and another person to drop the check. The beer was wonderful. They have a happy hour from noon to 5:00 pm daily. We already ordered when we noticed. Just like another neighborhood bar. Nothing fancy, nothing exciting, gets the job done when you're hungry. Burgers were $17+

Great first time at mountain sun! I've heard about it for awhile and finally got to go. It's been around since 1993 so definitely a boulder must visit. The service was amazing everyone was super helpful and friendly. The steak speakeasy sandwich was sooo good I would definitely get that again. It's spicy though so keep that in mind if you're sensitive to that. The tofu sandwich was perfectly crispy and sweet with the honey added. The Greek fries weren't as crispy as I would have wanted but the combination of flavors was great with the Pom seeds and hot honey and tzatziki. Can't wait to go back!

Tried 3 different IPA's landing on the hazy as my favorite. The nachos tasted very good, I do love some salsa on my nachos, but so much liquid on the bottom the chips were like noodles, but hey, it was still good. Service was top notch, they all take care of you so very little waiting at all. Comfortable atmosphere with some chill tunes playing. Definitely with the stop.

Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery is located right on the main street of Boulder (Pearl Street). They have a large selection of beers. Also they have pub-type food. I ordered the Blue Cheese Burger with fries. Overall good food, but my burger was a little underdone. Good overall selection on the menu though, and I've been here a few times. Please note they have a cash only policy.

Delicious food, cool vibes, great location! My friend and I stopped here on our way through Boulder after a local recommended it to us. So glad we did! It's located off Pearl Street, Boulder's most hopping area. We were able to find street parking close by, and it was cheap! First things first, it is CASH ONLY, so plan accordingly! There is an ATM on site, not sure of the fees, etc. When we arrived, it was pretty busy, but we were able to sit on the patio. The nice thing about the patio is that it's heavily shaded with umbrellas (which, admittedly, made snapping photos a tad tough for this foodie gal!) This place is quite interesting inside. The wall decor is cool but it has carpet and older looking tables, so that was different. It looked more like a diner/old fancy restaurant had a baby vs a brewery. This might be part of the vibe they're trying to achieve, but I'd probably go for patio seating every time! Our waitress was wonderful. She was super busy but checked on us often and we never wanted for a thing. We tried beer and it wasn't our fave, but we had been in the hot sun that morning so water hit the spot. We started with the nachos and they were BOMB! They're HUGE and the cheese pulls are outta this world. So good! For mains, my friend ordered the Date Night burger sub chicken and she really liked it. The chicken was a little small, but it was tender and the flavors were delicious. I had the Junk Burger (no mushrooms sub in caramelized onions). It was phenomenal! Highly recommend. So cheesy and tasty. I loved the roasted garlic mayo. I also love their fries and the availability of malt vinegar. Overall, Mountain Sun is a great spot for lunch and a beer. Honestly, if the inside decor switched it up a little/carpet was removed, I'd give it a full 5 stars, this was just super odd to us. Don't let that deter you, though, definitely stop by!

This place is so excellent! It continues to be the very best burger in Boulder. And yes, it is on Pearl - a very nice part of Pearl with a coffee shop right down from it for dessert. Just wonderful all around. You do need to take cash - but that is okay with me. It makes it so much easier on owners, rather than paying huge fees when the cost of food is so high right now. Keep up the great food and service and amazing beer!

Opportunity to Improve. Upfront was told parties over 8 have an automatic 20% tip added. I stated the service should warrant the tip. I was assured it would. It didn't. We were not offered refills on our waters until we were almost done with our meals. We asked for ranch dressing as we were served, it never came. We had to go to the bar and ask for some. We did discuss with manager. We allowed the tip to remain. Like I said, these are opportunities to improve.

We ate here this last week and it was awesome service and food! We had a table of 8 and they were quick to seat us, take our order, grab drinks and silverware and we got fried shortly after we sat because our party was so large. They were delicious!! Super good beer as well. Nice HH deal when we arrived. Would def come back.

Came here after a long day and it was a great way to end the night. They are cash and check only! The service here was great! Our server was very friendly and attentive. We ordered one of their specials - A burger with apple jam and brie, and I think there was arugula. It was so good! Their beef is something else, the menu states that the beef they use are vegetarian fed Colorado beef with no steroids or antibiotics. The quality came through and the beef was spectacular! It was cooked to medium which is my ideal preference and it was so juicy. I loved the combo with the brie, apple jam and arugula! My favorite meal in Boulder! Their burgers all come with fries, and they were nice, soft but crispy at the same time. They also have a huge variety of beers and you can sample them if you like. I would definitely come back here! It's great vibes and good food and drank!

Really really good food, friendly service, exactly the vibe you want after a 20 + mile back packing trip. The only knock here is the receipt, hard to tell who got what and they only take cash-- so not super great for large parties and groups overall which is bummer since brew pubs tend in that direction. Aside from the inconvenient payment model-- the food really is superb. Food wise if you come here- 10/10 recommend the junk burger place which was to die for with any of their IPAs.

Nothing but positive things to say about this place. The staff is friendly, I was there right at noon but it wasn't swamped (and they had the a/c cranked up when it was 90 degrees outside), my burger tasted delicious, and the fries were heaven sent. Note that it's CASH ONLY, though the ATM in the back only charges a $1 fee (in addition to whatever your bank charges). It's not "gourmet," but I'll never turn up my nose at a well made burger with delicious fries. Prices were also quite reasonable, in my opinion.

Went to Mountain Sun with a friend after a hike in Boulder and it fulfilled all my needs - a crisp beer and delicious bite to eat. The menu has options everyone including a great variety of beer; they offer free tasters if you're unsure which one you might fancy. The staff was extremely friendly. The restaurant isn't overly large but there was not a wait when I went. They have indoor and outdoor seating - I recommend outdoor as it is in the heart of Boulder and who doesn't love a good patio beer? They do not accept credit cards so you have to pay with cash or check, but there is an ATM inside. They also offer the option to take the check home and send $ after the fact - they believe in humanity.

Very good food, very good beer very nice service. You can't go wrong in this place. They make their own potato chips! I got the bison burger and it was excellent! Warning it is cash only!

Stopped in here after a hike -- Mountain Sun is more of a Restaurant than a brewery. Every table was full around noon on the weekend, but the tables turn fairly quickly. Service was exceptional by the team of waitresses and waiters constantly moving through the dining area. Food was alright. The guacamole was a bit bland, though. Good selection of beers -- all quenched thrust after a nice day hiking.

Great place with a wide variety of tasty food. I'm not a drinker and this place was still fantastic!! We loved our lunch. I had a chicken sandwich. It was delicious! Service was good too. I'd absolutely go back!

What a great college town eatery. The service is fantastic- 5 stars. Great conversation and friendly staff all around. The beer - 5 stars. All made in house! Casual and comfortable dining with tables and booths. Family friendly. Great menu with lot of great sounding options. I went with the grilled Reuben special and it was OK at best. Cheese fries were pretty good. I would definitely return but would hope for a better food experience. Cash only, team service and shared tips.

As far as the food goes, the french fries are exceptional! Get them with cheese on top you will not regret it. The hamburger was a good hamburger, but it was not as bodacious as I get expected by the description. But it was good. The staff was extremely accommodating and the crowd was great. The environment here is really nice for a date or for family. It's great for small, gatherings or large gatherings. I really enjoyed the vibe and I really enjoyed the hospitality. But here's where it gets Jenkee. I ordered a flight of beer. I ordered six. But only five came out and I was told they were out. However, the sixth came out after I started the flight. Not a big deal. But I had already tasted the entire flight in order. Then there was the flavor of each beer. I'll take it one by one. The Irish stout had a weird back flavor kind of like a chemical flavor not a natural flavor. The blackberry wheat was alright. I've had better Berry Wheat beers. But it's drinkable. Unlike its name, the Colorado Kind Ale was extremely confronting in its initial flavor. I think at the time of drinking it I said it was extremely abrasive. I don't think I even finished that one. The Spanish holiday sangria was also drinkable, but not exceptional. It was oddly bitter. And I love stouts. But the coconut cream stout tasted burnt. The best one was the Soul Flower Saison in my opinion. It's a little rich it's full bodied, and it feels like a treat. Well, I did not try every beer. And there may be some real golden award winning phenomenal brews at this brewery. But I did not find them on my flight. I think pretty much everything else was IPAs. If you go know that you will be well taken care of. Absolutely get the french fries. They are a super treat.

A very friend inclusive modern day hippie kind of place. Food is delicious with simple menu. We split a Junk Burger which was fantastic. The homemade fresh chips that came with it were unique with subtle BBQ flavoring and not too salty. The tip is shared and the service is a collective effort team-based approach. We were treated respectfully by everyone. Note: CASH only but there is an ATM nearby. Metered street parking but it's a few spaces away if you're an out of towner looking for the meter!

Hit this place up and had a great experience. Last time I was here had to have been a year ago or more but I stopped by yesterday with my parents. They loved the food so much my mom bought a t shirt. The beers here are always spot on, and the service is good too. Really no way to complain about mountain sun at all! FYI they are cash and check only! They do have an ATM

The family stopped in for lunch on a Saturday during our vacation to Colorado. This is a place that people will either love or hate. Let me explain how things work in the place then talk about the food. Everyone who works here does every job. That means Mon Joe is the manager, then Tue he works in the back, then Wed he is a waiter, etc. So you could have VERY mixed service. The place was also very loud. Sat at lunch was very busy so I might suggest an off time slot. Also the place is cash only. The good news is the food and beer. The Megaton Imperial Stout was one of the best beers I had on our trip. The Speakeasy Steak Sandwich was a hit as were the fries and drippy burgers. 5 stars if you are willing to chance the service. ;)

This place was amazing! The atmosphere, the staff, the food-all of it!! My friend and I had burgers and my husband had some kind of sandwich. It was all delicious! They keep my water full at all times. They were attentive, but not too much, it really was the perfect amount of attention. They were engaging and answered questions and seemed happy to do so. I want one near me! I went to their site to recommend that they put one in the Springs.

Great pub to unwind after anything! I came here after a hike to get beer and enjoyed everything so much. I got the Swiss Mushroom burger medium rare with a side salad. The burger was just perfectly juicy and seasoned well, each bite was amazing! The salad was also super refreshing. My friend got kettle chips and really enjoyed his as well. Another amazing part of this pub is the beer! There are so many really good choices and they even let you sample them! I was almost full from sampling but still chugged down a pint. Everything was good and I will definitely come back! Reminder it's cash only! But they also have an atm inside.

There's such a cool vibe to this spot! Normally I'd be irritated with a restaurant being cash only, but the "karma" policy of trusting others to mail-in a check later-on is awesome (there is an ATM for those who don't have cash and are able to pay during their visit). My bison burger was everything! I'd order it again and again. You could taste the freshness of the bison and it was cooked so that the meat melts in your mouth. It had the addictive quality of a fast food burger, but the freshness of fine dining -- who wouldn't want that?! The servers all share tips, so the entire waitressing staff is willing to help and checked-in regularly. I had a beer which was good (nothing extra special) but we were also given a free margarita which was made by the bartender-in-training.

We had an unfortunate first impression of Mountain Sun Pub & Brewey - an employee who has trouble with clear communication. He greeted us and told us to "sit anywhere." We (2) sat at a large picnic table inside thinking it was a "community table." As soon as we got settled, the staff-person came back and told us to pick another table because this was reserved for groups. He was not apologetic and acted as if we should've known better. So, not a good start, especially for a place that says it prides itself on its well-trained and friendly staff. We moved to a booth and things got better with our waiter, Clark, who was extremely good at his job. He shared much of what he personally loved about the menu and the tap beers and shared plenty of beer samples to help us make choices. House-brewed beers were good, but we LOVED the Portobello Mushroom Burger and hand cut fries and we will definitely be back for more of that yumminess! Alas, some reviewers have complained about the "rules" of this restaurant, but shouldn't a business owner be free to run it the way they see fit? People, go elsewhere if you don't like it. But, if you dine here, be forewarned: 1) do not "sit anywhere." Ask to be seated (and ask for Clark!) 2) This is a cash only business - they have an ATM with a $1 fee for withdrawals (bravo to them for bucking the pervasiveness of digital payments and the associated exorbitant processing fees!) And 3) there are no dogs allowed - sure, they like dogs, but the sidewalk dining area is too small and their caution about crowding dogs into small spaces should be appreciated (by dogs and humans).

One of the most famous breweries in Boulder and for a good reason ! we had a 30 minute wait before we were seated because they only had one big table to accommodate our big group , however once seated the service was prompt . The first round of drinks and samplers were ordered and they came out pretty fast. The place was jampacked with patrons and the staff was on top of their game despite being swamped .The beer selection is exhaustive and offers a lot . We all got a sperate entrée and some shared munchies for the table . The food is mostly burgers and sandwiches with an occasional salad thrown in .. so don't expect healthy fare . Having said that the food indeed is pretty delicious and everyone seemed to enjoy what they ordered . They only take cash which they informed us only when we got the bill . I believe this information should be shared before you seat people because not everyone carries cash these days . We had a big party and naturally the bill was a lot which somehow we were able to pay for in cash but it sure could have been an issue if the bill was just slightly more . Apart from that I think the place was great and a fun hangout .

Mountain Sun was our first stop from SD, and it'll be heard to beat. For starters, the staff was AMAZING. Wes, who was the general manager, was so sweet. Gave us some recommendations and was so personable. Our waiter, whose name I unfortunately did not catch, was also great. It's hard to beat the $6 pitcher happy hour deal, and the burgers and fries are delicious. We'll definitely try to come back again before we go back home!

We stopped in after a hike and had a great time. We got a plate of fries and I had a burger (forget which one, but it was good) and wheat beer. The atmosphere is laid back and there's a relaxing vibe to it all. The service was fine, but note that they only take cash (no fear, there's an ATM nearby).

Very friendly staff, LOVE the vegan options and the beer! Mountain Sun's new happy hour is also amazing. They have $10 house margs from 8pm to close and these are some of the best margs ive ever had. Very flavorful, not too sweet. highly recommend.

Love this place! Our host, Evan, gave up a ton of great recommendations. I had the buffalo burger and my wife had the junk burger -- both were awesome! Their craft beers were also wonderful! Just bring cash - they don't take credit, but they have an ATM in the back.

Great music and immediate service. Came to visit Boulder and decided to stop in. We were quickly greeted and found a table. They let you sample their beers before you order. We had the blackberry wheat. It was very tasty. We ordered the Junk Burger and SOB Burger which were good. I was a little disappointed with the SOB burger since it was not Spicy at all. The chipotle ranch dressing was spicier than the burger. You can substitute the chips it comes with for fries at $2.50. The fries and chips were pretty good but the chips needed a dipping sauce. If you're in Boulder it's worth a try.

After an exhausting but fulfilling day of picking out a Christmas tree, my family and I were ready for a hearty meal. Mountain Sun seemed like a great choice halfway through the drive home, and we got the last large group table available. There were 7 of us total. Customer service is unrivaled. I'd come back just for the positive (Boulder) culture and vibes. For food, I had the S.O.B. Burger (bacon, Cajun seasoning, roasted hatch chilies, jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion) which was quite tasty. I thought the fries were overdone and undersalted, not enough to send them back, per their promise. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food too, including the kids who can be picky eaters. We had to park on the street a few blocks away, which is typical for Pearl St in Boulder. There was some sort of holiday parade getting ready, making it a more magical experience. Love watching the crowds around this part of town. Would especially want to visit Mountain Sun when the weather is warmer so I can enjoy beers on their front patio!

Honestly, I don't get why people think this place is so great. First, know before you go that they don't take credit cards, so if you don't happen to have cash or check on you (and who does these days?!?) they'll direct you to their ATM in the back. They'll promote the $1 service charge, which of course doesn't include whatever your own bank will charge you. When we arrived, there was about a 15 min wait, but you can't wait by the front. Instead, they'll direct you back to the bar where the bartenders try their sales job on you. When we got to our table and ordered, two of us got burgers and two got the roast beef sandwich. All looked good in Yelp pics, but all were rather small when they arrived. My medium burger was kind of still bleeding. It tasted good, but was maybe 1/4 lb patty cooked. I easily could've used more. Fries, which cost an extra $2.50, were salty, limp, and not great. I liked the chips (which only came because they forgot to sub the fries on two of our plates) better than the fries, but they were also really salty. Anything extra you want on your burger, including condiments, costs extra, so be prepared for the total to add up. The roast beef sandwiches were good, until the chewy parts were found, then not so good. All in all, kind of a more stressful meal than it was worth. Will likely just try someplace else next time.

FREE BEER! I visited Boulder to kill time before late flight out of Denver. Some dude was walking around offering "free beer" cards. Pretty easy sale. So I took my free beer card and headed over. The staff at MSPB were all unfailingly pleasant and attentive. A+ for service. I ordered a hazy IPA, which was good, and an impossible burger, which was fine. One complaint, and it's not major, but still. When I ordered my burger, the waitperson said "do you want chips or fries," with a downward inflection at the end, implying that it's included. Then, when I got the bill, the fries were extra. Hmm... The free beer was nice, but if something's not included with a dish, the inflection needs to go up: "chips or fries?" -- not "chips or fries," i.e., you get to have one or the other when you order this burger. Very nice place overall, very pleasant staff, very clean. Oh, they don't take credit or debit cards, which is kind of weird these days, when the rest of the world seems to be going in the opposite direction. They do have an ATM in the back so you can get cash.

Super chill place with a cool vibe. Servers are fantastic and the place runs on a team plan so everyone does every job. Food is great and the vegan options are excellent. Burgers are king here but the steak sandwich is killer. Shaved steak on ciabatta with giardiniera, horseradish sauce, sautéed onions and mushrooms, and cheese make this one tasty sandwich. Awesome selection of craft beers and the fries are great. The large appetizer portion is enough for at least four to share.

Amazing food and great service! We had the steak sandwich and nachos. The steak sandwich was awesome! Probably the best steak sandwich I've ever had. It had great flavor and the bread was perfect. Also the fries were awesome. Would go back for the steak sandwich. The nachos were also great but were so big and were too much for two people. If you have a group of 4-6 the nachos are good as a good sized appetizer and won't feel repetitive, but they were really awesome, the salsa and chips were great. The service was friendly and quick. Warning that they only accept check or cash but there is an atm in the back of the store. The bathroom and restaurant was clean and sanitary. Will be back for more sandwiches and fun atmosphere.

Fair warning, this place is CASH ONLY, so make sure to bring some so that you're not scrambling trying to figure out whether you brought your debit card or not. We ordered: * Elote - 8/10: I wish the corn was broken apart, but the cheese sauce was so delicious, pro-tip, dip the fries in em * Pub's famous fries - 6/10: I thought the fries would be more unique since they were prefix'd with "Pub's famous", but they were a solid pick if you want fries * Bison burger - 9/10: surprisingly very good though a bit smaller than I expected * Burrito - 8/10: absolutely enormous, about the size of a small baby The service was very friendly and you get to taste test the beers on tap in these small glasses if you want.

Fun stop after a big hike. The service was very good (they tag team it - but all 3 were skilled). Great variety of beers, and free samples (I tried 5 different IPAs!). The chicken quesadillas were good, but my wife really disliked the tomato bisque (it was essentially marinara...).

I have been here twice in the past several weeks and both times the food has been great. Brought a colleague from the UK and he loved the fries and drinks, as well. Just remember, it's cash only, but there's an ATM near the restroom that only charges $1 fee.

I whole heartedly love this place. There isn't one thing on the menu that doesn't look good. Jill the waitress is soooo amazing, funny, nice, personable and happy! My husband and I split fries and the S.O.B. Burger... and hollllly craaaaaaap. Sooooo good! 10/10 recommend.

There were so many good lunch places to choose from during our visit to Boulder, but after much evaluation we settled on this one. We got a great vibe from the staff as soon as we walked in. We were also a bit surprised when we were given a basket of French fries as a free starter. Very unique, but we loved it...and they were yummy! We tried a few things off of the menu - the southwest chicken sandwich, buffalo chicken sandwich and the quesadilla- they were all very good! One other important thing to note - they only accept cash or check.

Service is AMAZING....And so are the beers! This time Dom served us, super helpful and fun! After tasters we picked FYIPA (Dan) and Annapurna Amber (Sharon). And we both loved the Kind Ale. Then we found our review from a year ago, discovered we picked the same ales, And Wren came by (recognized her from last time...she had helped us find our beers and the vegan chili). RECOMMEND!!

Amazing food! The tilapia curry dish was absolutely amazing! Prices are very good for portion sizes. This places was packed on Tuesday evening. Service was very friendly!
