Right by Deptford station, Mousetail sits in one of the railway arches along the little stretch that’s gradually filled up with newer cafés, bistros, and creative spots. It has that easy, slightly industrial feel, long communal tables, good natural light, and a steady flow of people coming in for takeaway or settling in with laptops.
The coffee is very good here. Properly made, not over-roasted, and with enough options for those who care about how their flat white is done. There’s also a small selection of cakes and pastries, all of which looked fresh. If the weather allows, there’s outside seating, which works nicely with the trains rolling past overhead.
It’s a straightforward, genuinely pleasant independent café. No fuss, no pretension, just well-made coffee and a relaxed place to sit. Given the choice between this and yet another chain, this is absolutely the one to support.
