To end the day gambling at Morongo, we decided upon Mozen Asian Kitchen for dinner, as we ate at Good Times Cafe for a late lunch & Mozen is right next to the hotel elevators. Soup seemed perfect for a cool November evening, and perhaps fried rice would round out the meal.
Customers at Mozen first order at the registers, then receive a number placard if dining in. We ordered the Hong Kong style beef stew noodle soup & combo fried rice.

The combo fried rice came with shrimp, chicken & Chinese sausage. Right away, we knew corners had been cut. When our food arrived, the combo fried rice was only lukewarm, meaning it's been sitting in a rice cooker/chafing tray awaiting the next order. It tasted fine, especially the sweetness of the Chinese sausage, but should've been cooked fresh to order. It's stir-fried, so it literally takes minutes to cook. Very disappointing.

The HK style beef stew noodle soup came with a lot of flat rice noodles. A lot of them! Cooked al dente, they were nice to eat at first, but I quickly tired of them, to where I just consumed the broth & stew meat. The broth was hearty & flavorful, and the chunks of beef had a good ratio of meat to fat, of which I would've preferred more fat. The soup did soothe the soul after gambling.
Before turning in for the night, I came back later to order an Old Fashioned at the bar. Initially, I ordered a Sazerac cocktail, but the bartender said he doesn't make it, so I settled on an Old Fashioned. The cocktail was only briefly stirred, strained and put in a to-go cup loaded with ice. My impression upon drinking my cocktail was that I was drinking apple cider/juice. Buzzkill.
Service was so-so. After the attendant greeted us, he looked at our receipt, then brought out our drinks. After a short wait, our food arrived, and he never came back to check on us. I think because he saw we didn't pre-tip when we ordered ahead. However, we were going to tip him in cash upon completion of our dinner. Needless to say, no tip was left for him. Consideration, please.
After a fine meal at Good Times Cafe, we were disappointed with dinner at Mozen. Again, fried rice should be cooked fresh, and not needing much time to do so, it really is poor quality control. The stew noodle soup was fine, however. I'm unsure if I want to take a chance on other menu items at Mozen the next time I visit Morongo, or just choose another eatery to visit. But, we weren't impressed, at all.
