Where to Chomp on Italian Beef Sandwiches in Chicago

"The Mr. Beef name carries a lot of expectations. Fortunately, this Northwest Side eatery, which is unaffiliated with the River North location (that’s the restaurant The Bear takes inspiration from), lives up to that legacy. Cheese isn’t a usual Italian beef topping but diners can get their sandwiches with mozzarella, American, or cheddar here. A nice mix of herbs and spices season the meat while the giardiniera is flecked with red pepper flakes for extra oomph. Order ahead online. A second outpost is located in Forest Park." - Eater Staff, Ashok Selvam

Mr. Beef & Pizza Review - Dunning - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Mr. Beef & Pizza is a pizzeria and sandwich shop in Dunning. Pizza seems to take precedence here, and it’s telling that Italian beef is nowhere to be found under the “Our Most Popular Items” section of the website. The bread is tasty (but disintegrates easily even when just slightly dipped), and they’re not shy about the amount of pepper topping. But the sandwich tastes overwhelmingly of oil and Italian seasoning, which doesn’t counterbalance the unpleasant iron-y flavor of the meat. Head to nearby instead for a better Italian beef." - Veda Kilaru

Nice place to grab a quick bite. I love their grilled chicken sandwich and their chicken pita. The workers are more than happy to customize my order and there’s little to no wait time. The atmosphere is great too.

Google
Long service time for the person in front of me to be served and then a still relatively long time to be served myself for a store with 3 feet of entry space after 2 broken doors in front. A cheap plain beef at $7.59, but very expensive toppings upcharges. $1.59 for peppers and $1.59 for cheese $10.77 for a beef with both. A mild spiced heat, but seasoned well. Inconsistent beef thickness, lots of little chunks and shreds mixed with a couple thick cut pieces as well. Could be ever so slightly less dry. Bread tastes great and picks up the juice well. Bread still holds together well despite being dipped. A great beef 4/5.

Google
Just a great restaurant that has great food and great prices. Slices and whole pizzas so good and best beef around. Reason place has been in business this long.

Google
We typically almost always grab their italian beef which they are infinitely famous for and fries when we order from Mr Beef and maybe the occasional sausage slice, but this time around, we were in the mood for a whole cheese pizza. Phoned in an order for pick-up and was told it would be 25-30 minutes until it's good to get picked up. Pizza was ready upon arrival, and we took it home and dug right in. It was a decent pizza. It had an ok undercarriage with delicious cheese with a good pull, but there was just not enough sauce, which would have made the pizza exceptional. Crust did not have the desired crunch we expect from a thin crust pizza. Overall, it's not bad. 6.3/10. Cheers!

Google
I made a request to surprise my son because he went there for a field trip with his class and loved the worked named Juan. I called him and I asked if he could simply put his name on the order so he knew it was for him and Juan gave him a free ice cream and chocolate cake without me asking. Such sweet people and I would definitely recommend !! Thank you

Google
Twice in two weeks so I'm ranking this on the top five of the Italian beef places we've gone to. Helps that the fries are crunchy not greasy and the sausage pizza is yummy

Google
Beef is trash compared to the other options in this area and they upcharge on everything but will conveniently forget to add it to the food. Asked for Cheddar on a grilled chicken sandwich and they put liquid cheese on it..? Do yourself a favor, Go to lukes down the street

Yelp
I've been a long time customer over the years and when the owners sold a few years back it took us regulars by quite a surprise. Loyalty kept me going there until it was determined things had definitely changed where the food quality was concerned. I had learned the long time cooks had gone elsewhere. This severely impacted the taste and quality of a long time great tradition. I walked away but one day not to long ago I thought I'd give em another chance after several years. Upon stopping in I learned the old cooks had made it back and the food quality was back. I've been there several times over the past six months and I get my usual slice and a soda and it's pizza perfection. Other things in the menu I'm sure are tasty and back to that great traditional taste of old. Welcome back and it's so nice to satisfy the slice and a diet soda fix when needed Bob

Yelp
04/10/24 - My wife a I stopped off here after a marathon at our accountants office from 2:30-7:30. We were starving. I went in and stood there while this POS stood there and ignored me right on the other side of the counter. He was doing something but never looked up or said I'll be right with you. When he got doing whatever it was he doing he walked to the back room in the restaurant. There was a girl who was up front and she never acknowledged that we were even there. She then walked to the back room too. I mean like WTF? Besides 2 woman we were the only other customers in the restaurant. Finally a third person came out and took our order. What a difference from the last time I came in there. That being said they do have a good beef. I like mine dipped w/jardiniere peppers. I don't think I'll ever go back there as there are too many other places to eat. This I'm not to be confused with MR BEEF @ 666 N Orleans.

Yelp
A very Happy Days vibe is what you'll get here. Yeah, I just dated myself with that, but I guess with great age comes greater adventures. The food is your typical diner food - bugers, fries, and such. We came in because the need for hotdogs and fries was in order. To my surprise, no one ordered hotdogs and fries. We still got stuff off the grill. I got a burger that was well seasoned and fit the bill for your good Ole American burger. My daughter had a decent slice of pizza. Not a NY slice, but big enough to make her happy. My wife ordered a gyro sandwich and fries. See, not so crazy. The bad part came when my wife opened up her sandwich. As we're enjoying our meal, I see my wife open her gyro to enjoy the protein (gyro meat) that seems to always be abundantly added to these sandwiches. While using a fork to pick up the gyro meat, she stopped cold and asked me to make sure she wasn't seeing something else. I leaned in, and sure enough, there is was, a hair. It was plain as day laying across the tomato covered in sauce. She walked over and explained what she had found. The person behind the counter took the gyro back and prepared her a new one. It took long enough that I was able to eat my burger. Thankfully, she had the fries to keep her happy, but after that experience, she couldn't trust the new sandwich and started picking at it until she eventually lost her appetite. I don't have much else to say, to be honest. It was an experience that will keep us away from here.

Yelp
Mr. Beefs on Harlem. When you mentioned it to anyone familiar a smile would instantly appear. It was a right of passage when you were a kid and something you passed on to the next generation. We recently heard of the new ownership and how the beef sandwiches were just not the same. We were in total disbelief and had to visit and see what was up. It just couldn't be right?!?!?? Fast forward to this week, when my son and I stopped in. It was lunch time and there was plenty of parking. That would never happen under the original owners. There would be a line and maybe some seats by the front, if you were lucky. The place was virtually empty. Not a good sign. We go to the counter place our order that included cheesy beef sandwiches and was asked what kind of cheese? What..there is only 1 option, mozzarella! We get our order and instantly saw the sandwiches were smaller as were the fries. We were okay with that as long as the beef sandwiches tasted the same. They most definitely did not. If it weren't for the giardinar they had no flavor at all. The sandwiches had no flavor whatsoever. The bread didn't seem fresh and the mozzarella never seemed to get soft. To say it was disappointing would he an understatement. We must now face the prospect of never having a good beef sandwich place to go to. The end of an era for us as we will not be back and will tell people not to bother.

Yelp
I used to frequent this location on a regular basis and have not been there for a couple years. I've noticed that they changed owners. The Beef is tasty, just not how it used to be maybe it's the juice - I remember the old owner had crushed red peppers in the juice or something that made it stand out. Not what I remembered However still a decent beef sandwich! I would recommend getting one in neighborhood.
google avatar

Yelp
I don't know where these negative reviews are coming from. The beef is some of the best around. Also, their salads are fantastic. (Yes, excellent salads at a beef joint.) Made to order, not prepackaged. And the staff are always friendly.

Yelp
I've been coming to Mr. Beef & Pizzza well over 20 years and it never disappoints me. Even after it changed hands nothing has changed, the recipes, portion size, etc. The new owners are very nice and accommodating. I usually get a beef or a combo and a slice to go. They even have the same music, mostly from the 60s-70s. Give it a try, the portions are big, and they'll get you in and out in no time.

Phil G.

Yelp
I ordered an Italian beef sandwich with sweet peppers, dipped, and fries. It was delicious! The fries are very generous, plenty for two people. Mr. Beef is an under appreciated! Check it out !

Yelp
I recently moved to the Chicago Suburbs and wanted to try Mr. Beef. The Italian Beef was very juicy and the hot peppers made it even tastier. The service was fast, the prices were solid and the food was great. Will be going back again.

Yelp
Now that I've tried this place a couple times i guess i can give it a decent review. Nothing is wrong with this place in particular, other than the fact that they have no real combo meals. If i remember correctly, the have about 3 items that you can get fries and a drink with. Everything else is a "build your own" combo thing which means you'll pay more here than the Wendy's and KFC that are on with side of this place. I say all of that to say that if you like quick selections, with ready-made options, then that might annoy you a little. Other than that, the food is pretty good, they are quick, and the staff is friendly enough.

Vicky L.

Yelp
Terrible service. The food is nowhere near the same as the original owners. I would go there at least 1 to 2 x a month. Mr. beef was a favorite for our family get together NOW they skimp on their serving size . they're constantly forgetting parts of the order. I would ask for ketchup and salt and pepper and they wouldn't put it in the bag ...or ask For extra juice for my beef sandwich. They forget it and the fries are always cold over salty.... . The parking is terrible. "It's dirty in there the kitchen " The place is filthy. The tables are not cleaned off fast enough. I'll never go back there again. They had big shoes to fill and they couldn't even come close.

Yelp
Always a wonderful lunch stop. I only know the Chicago 666 N Orleans. Often line up when you go at lunch time. Carry out is nice. Italian Beef or Sausage with Green Peppers (my fav since my youth, 1st here in 1990. Got within the few blocks from work by beater bike from the West Loop. Driving- from the Kennedy Ohio St extension turn L at Wells, then L to Chicago Avenue, then L at Orleans, then turn R in their lot (or the park on street- pricy meters). Best to walk or RIDE a bike like me!

Yelp
The beef was outstanding. Flavorful and dipped the way I like it. My wife had the dog with chili and cheese; delicious!!! Also loved the 1950/60 feel of the place. Friendly folks behind the counter. Great place.

Yelp
I've been going here a long time. Love their pizza puffs, just so crunchy in the outside. I love it.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent Italian Beef and fries. Had the sandwich wet and sweet. There were plenty of peppers as well as beef. If you like Italian Beef sandwiches, you gotta go there!!
google avatar

Yelp
Good pizza, good burgers, wings. A bit too expensive but what isn't nowadays. I mainly go because my daughter likes their pizza and they're so nearby.
google avatar

Greg K.

Yelp
I have been going to Mr Beef for over 20 years. I moved out of the area but always came back. I know the original owners must be gone because the size of the sandwich is 30 to 40% smaller! Nothing wrong with the taste or quality. I always brag to others how they piled on the beef but no longer the case they are almost as small as Johnny's on North Avenue. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Riad S.

Yelp
Ordered the dipped Italian beef and fries. To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. That Beef was phenomenal. The hot peppers were plentiful. The beef was moist and tasty. Next time I'll take pics; I couldn't wait to try it out. It's hard to find good beef. As far as beefs, this place has overtaken the number 2 spot on my list.

John H Z.

Yelp
Went on Tuesday for the gyros special. I bought four and four extra sauce on the side. The gyros was good, moist, tasty. the pita wise, warm and delicious. They had added the perfect amount of onions and tomatoes. But they did not put enough sauce on the gyros, and I had to use two additional containers of sauce that bought on the side. They are small containers for one dollar each. I will ask that they put more sauce on the gyros next time I go there. Although, I've regularly purchased extra sauce when I buy gyros at any restaurant. the beef is excellent and I bought four beef sandwiches with sweet peppers two weeks ago. Tonight I will buy the pizza special. I will let you know how the pizza is tonight after we eat!

Yelp
Had their beef in Forest Park and it was decent. Hard space to compete in in Oak Park. We have so many places nearby and this place did not stack up to chains like Bouna and Portillos. Not on the same level as Johnny's or Freddys Pizza. Not a bad place to go if you want Pizza and Beef. They have options and indoor seating. Much like Mickeys on Harlem. Went drive through and didn't really experience the service or cleanliness. Price was about $8.50 for 6inch sandwich.

Danielle G.

Yelp
The food I have not tried but it is ridiculous on how Mr. beef treats the employee's. It is hot outside and inside mr. beef it is thtee times hotter. I was weating waiting for a 100.00 dollar order. Pass this to the opener because the funds are there but the the employee care is no. Its ridiculous.

Yelp
The food is good there but the so-called owner is very argumentative on the phone for Delivery-I tried calling back to complain this Morning about him and Phone guy said he is the owner-he just lost my business it's good but not that good --when I order delivery normally gets here within the half hour so I go outside the wait time goes by Call Back ---the Driver is out already --half hour later now waiting a full hour -11still not there so I called back Again -Hung Up I called back this morning and the same moron answer the phone again and he gets in a big argument with with me on the phone shows that he screwed up he's got time to argue with me so I would not recommend anyone going there -the old owners were much better --that's too bad -do not go there-- I wish I had the guys name --he's just a total jag off -go across the street to spend your money somewhere else plenty of restaurants within three blocks of there

Yelp
If you all have been following my page, you will remember I did a list of my favorite Italian beef sandwiches in Illinois. Mr. Beef off Harlem was my number one pick for what I felt was the best beef in Illinois. I had not been to Mr. Beef off Harlem since before the pandemic. I was worried and excited to try my favorite Italian beef spot and see if it was still the best. I arrived at Mr Beef off Harlem at around 5:00 pm. There was a small line of customers around five in total. The first sign that made me nervous was I saw all new faces. The original staff was replaced with all new workers. I wish I remembered her name but I distinctly remember a woman who was the owner that worked the front counter. I remember how nice she was and how she would talk with her customers as they waited for their order. I have no clue where that lady went, but she was gone. I put in my usual order of Italian beef juicy with hot giardiniera and a large fry. I was able to sit at one of the open tables and watch the workers work and the customers come in and out. The whole place felt different; it was just missing that magic that made the place unique. I was really hoping, other than the other differences, the beef sandwich was still going to be as good as I remembered it. I heard my number called and grabbed my greasy bag of goodness. I raced home to enjoy my food while it was still fresh and hot. I arrived home and removed my sandwich. The look of it seemed somewhat familiar, but the proof will be in the first bite. I took my first bite and began to savor the flavor. The problem was there was no real flavor as I remembered. The meat tasted dry and old as if it was frozen or sitting for a while. The bun was saturated in gravy, but it still tasted flavorless and dry. The hot giardiniera was not very hot and had muted flavors of peppers. The fries were good and crunchy, but my beef was way below average. My worst fears had come to fruition. My favorite beef had been another victim of the pandemic. Many restaurants have closed down and many of the ones left open lost many of the core staff that made the restaurant and food great. This was a sad day for me, but I am determined to find a new Italian Beef spot to replace my once great Mr Beef on Harlem. I will try Mr Beef off Harlem again one day. However, from what my friends are also telling me, this place is just not that good anymore. It was not unique to one particular day.

Yelp
Easily the wost Italian Beef I've ever had! Just god awful! Even dipped it was so dried out I was almost choking on it. No flavor to it at all. I ordered it with giardiniera, and they didn't put any on there. They don't have a combo meal for their beef. Everything is separate. I order a Sprite, but it tatsed nothing like Sprite! Definitely don't recommend!

Mary R.

Yelp
Horrible delivery service. Food is traditionally good there but 2 times in a row my food came ice cold.

John G.

Yelp
Over priced. Lady doesn't even call you up when your food is ready. Worst of all the play Christmas music in November.

John S.

Yelp
It was a good beef, like usual. I had not been there in a while due to living in TX for 15 months. It's still better than competitor in Harwood Hts
google avatar

Frank F.

Yelp
This is for the new one in Forest Park. Went this sat after the show. Sausage pizza cold and old. Vanilla shake no flavor tasted like ice milk not mixed at all. Chocolate cake dry and a vendor item. Homeless black man jonesing in a booth asking customers for money. Never again
google avatar

Stephen C.

Yelp
Harlem Ave. standby with what is likely the best Italian beef in Chicago. Hot and dipped. There might and I emphasize might, be one beef stand better though I haven't found it yet. Without doubt the best slice of pizza in the city! I fight coming into this joint because I know I can't have just one. Great meatballs and they even have 'gravy bread''! And what a 'joint' it is! Old school old neighborhood feel Chicago with walls adorned with movie posters of yesteryear and oldies but goodies tunes humming overhead. Formica tables, checkered tile floors and leopard print plastic covered booths finish off the true Chicago feel. If you haven't been here your loss.
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
NEW OWNERS!!! Didn't think my favorite place in the world would change, but it has. New owners have take over a couple months ago and I've given them a few chances now, and fuuuck why ruin a Chicago icon? The recent BAD changes at Mr. Beef... 1. Food has changed for the worse. Pizza slices now are almost HALF the size they used to be. 2. Quite of few items from the menu are now GONE, 3. Beefs don't taste the same, can't figure out what changed but they are smaller too. 4. Long time workers are all gone, mostly new staff. I had hoped and prayed the new owners would leave a great thing alone, they haven't and every week there are new changes. Been coming here for 30yrs and it's a huge dissapointment. There's far too much competition in the area to make changes like this.

William P.

Yelp
Stopped their for a sandwich on my way to work and ordered the gyros. Honestly one of the WORST gyros I've ever had. Meat was dry and overcooked, barely any tomato or onion, and NO tsatsiki sauce! How can you call it a gyros with no tsatsiki?? Drive through took forever too. Not recommended.

Felecia R.

Yelp
I ordered a pizza from Mr Beef and this is what I got a BURNT pizza I'm shocked they even served this . I called back I spoke to the girl taking orders she put me on hold to talk to the manager he never came on the phone she back on and told me to bring the pizza in and they would make me a new pizza. I told them you honestly thought this pizza was worth serving I told them NEVER serve a pizza like this again you will lose customers. The manager didn't like confrontation he gave me my new pizza which was not even cooked properly it was gooey and could is used about 15 more minutes in the oven and he replaced my pizza with a smaller pizza then I originally ordered. Needless to say I will not be going back they lost my business

Jervone W.

Yelp
The quality of the food doesn't stand up to the price. I paid almost $9 for a bacon cheeseburger and it didn't come with fries. It was a precooked burger and the sandwiche was cold. The guy pulled a precooked burger out of a drawer from under the grill and warmed it up on the grill. Nobody wants a precooked burger at all. Go see for yourself if you don't believe me. Then the guy behind the counter acted like I made up a story when I returned the warm $9 burger. He was very rude and I must say that they are usually very professional. It's not just the burger that's over priced. Everything is.

irv d.

Yelp
this was my go to place for a slice of pizza for 20+ years. when the Berwyn couple sold it a few years back the new owners initially maintained the original Mr. Beef and Pizza quality. got a coupla slices today and the love affair is over. greasy (typical of sustandard mozzarella) and the crust was flavorless and dry. additionally ordered an Italian sausage sandwich and when I asked for a little red sauce they tried gouging another buck out of me. no, you ain't getting another buck now or another penny forever
google avatar

Pito S.

Yelp
This has been my go to place for beefs and slices of pizza. Don't know what's going on there but management needs a class on customer service skills. Ordered a beef to what I found when I got home was lil green bugs on beef. Called ahead to let them know I was coming back so they can see the issue and was told there was nothing that they could do and that it was better for me to stay home, like wtf. But is it me seems like the guys behind the counter have a staring issue especially when women are around. Anyone else get that vibe?

Beverly C.

Yelp
Miss the old owners and their friendly service. Food is still good. Customer service lacking. Witnessed an unfortunate situation. Customer wanted a cheeseburger, snipply lady behind counter asked him to repeat his order and then she replies 'YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE MEAN". She could have let it go, he ended up cursing her and leaving. Very uncomfortable, I blame her. No thank you, not friendly, she's doing you a favor. Needs training or get somebody who likes people. Voting with my feet, many other places to go.

Yelp
I have been a long time customer of this establishment and alway had nothing but the best to say about it. Recently it was sold, so I decided to give it a try. Food is about the same, smaller portions also has a price increase. The thing is the place is already dirty then I've ever seen it. Bench seats are sticky and grimy, garbage cans had ketchup all over the swing door, just in general grimy. The most annoying thing is one of workers had there kids in the dinning area, running all over in the kitchen, by the washrooms, pushing the emergency exit door, standing on tables. A general disrespect for the customers dining in there. Probably the last time I will go in and eat. *update* Fast forward a year. Recently decided to give them another chance after this past year. Food was back up to quality, service is good again, and they have made several updates to some badly needed areas. Serving sizes are still a bit smaller then they had been. But they added a pizza combo deal which I love now. So in my opinion give them another chance if you had been turned off in the past.

Tom A.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite Beef sandwich, but I'm not going back anymore. I didn't recognize the crew, maybe it changed ownership recently? I stopped in today and ordered a beef sandwich kit so I could re-heat and assemble it at home, which is an hour away. I could tell that things weren't running smoothly-- everyone looked a little confused and rushed. When I got home to assemble my sandwich there was no beef gravy, the fries were way undercooked, and no bread! I called them to let them know how disappointed I was and the manager says "remind me the next time you come in and I'll give you an extra piece of bread". I let him know that there won't be a next time.

Yelp
I've been coming here since I was a kid and it always has been and always will be absolutely delicious. I am obsessed with their pizza and have to get a slice whenever I happen to be in town. They have great sides too. Absolutely love this place!
google avatar

Christopher G.

Yelp
My go to options are always a beef, cheese fries, breaded mushrooms or a slice of pizza. They never disappoint! Great staff and great food!
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
#Danger #MetalFoundInFood #Gross #Doom #Dirty #Unsafe I've always came here to eat the beef sandwiches were great, I brought home a mozzarella beef sandwich "the cheese wasn't even melted by the way". That's when I was chewing and bit down on something hard, I took it out of my mouth and behold a SMALL RUSTY METAL NUT. This is unsafe, dirty, and dangerous to small children. Do not eat here if you don't want to get Tetanus or maybe even something worse.

Rosa J.

Yelp
Rosa J. has started doing what a Chicagoan is supposed to do: eating hotdogs, burgers, and sandwiches around towns. Blissfully, she has been doing so on her days off from work. Today is MLK Day, and Dr. MLK Jr. would for sure be happy to consume some tasty Chicago-style Italian Beef sandwich, if he had the opportunity. I would also kindly remind him to add some sweet peppers as well. Rosa J. did the exactly the same: ordered an Italian beef sandwich with sweet peppers (50 cents extra). I wasn't expecting much from this place, but they obviously know their stuff! The sandwich was delicious! Their beef was tender and flavorful to every slice and string. I can honestly say that it was $6.50 well-spent. Hubby ordered the cheese pizza and regular-sized fries. Be aware of that "regular-sized" fries; it was a fairly large serving. I was glad that I didn't ask for fries; otherwise, I would need a spare stomach. Their fountain drinks are re-fill able. Just respectfully ask one of the dudes working behind the counter. It's freakin' ironic that Wen*y's and Kentucky F'ied Chic*en are the next-door neighbors. Do not go there, please. Come to Mr. Beef & Pizza instead. They also have parking available. Though tight and congested, the parking lot is ample for the city standard. It's also very close to the HIP. Let me tell ya; Harlem Ave. in Chicago is really the road containing some of the best food in the city.

Yelp
Not gonna lie, this is probably one of my favorite restaurants in the area. And that's saying a lot because I haven't been too impressed with the food in this area. Mr. Beef is a classic beef joint. They offer other items on the menu like hotdogs, hamburgers, pizza, etc. but it's all about the beef! I've been here several times and I'm satisfied every time. The staff is friendly, (especially the day time cashier guy who might be the owner). The decorations are a bit dated, some of the chairs aren't leveled, the bathroom is small and dated also, and the dining area is not the biggest - but even with all that, this place still gets 5 stars! The combo beef is your go-to order. Do not order anything else without ordering that first. Recommendations on how to order your beef for the best maximum experience: COMBO beef, dipped wet, with american cheese, sweet and hot peppers. Order fries too (if you are with another person, 1 order of fries can be shared). It's a hefty beef and you'll be full after a few bites but this beef is easily top 5 in the city. The combos may even have the edge over Portillo's in my opinion. But you be the judge! Enjoy!

Yelp
I am not a fast food lover- there is just one pace I will go. My husband loves Italian beef sandwiches. I have tried many others and haven't liked any of them This Mr. Beef is the ONLY fast food or Italian beef place I will go to. We have been going here forever, we take all out of town guests here. I actually crave their beef and we do not live close by. Since new owners have taken over the service is better and the place is cleaner. The food is as wonderful as ever. Take it from native Chicagoans- this is the best Italialn beef anywhere.

Yelp
The first thing I have to say about this place is they have no child seats. No boosters and no high chairs which is big for me because I had to hold my 1 1/2 year old while I tried to eat an Italian beef. Seriously? I had a large order. 1 pizza , 2 Italian beefs, 2 fries 1 with chili, chicken tenders and 8 drinks. Total was $75 . The pizza was mediocre. The Italian beef was mediocre. The fries were served first and were cold. They served our pizza about 20 minutes later and then forgot about our sandwiches. I asked for the rest of our order and they gave the 2 beefs and forgot the tenders. 10 minutes later the tenders came out. It was just all over the place. The bathroom was decent but the lock on the door was broken. My husband said the mens bathroom was disgusting. I'm sorry but I can not dine at a place and enjoy a meal having to hold my child and eat a sandwich that definitely requires 2 hands. Get some high chairs guys.....

Yelp
Ok, long time customer, here. I just googled Mr Beef to pull up their menu and phone number to place an order, and happened to see all the recent bad reviews about the new ownership - which I didn't even know about until just now. I started to go into a panic, and wondered if I should just order from Marco's on Fullerton and Austin, instead. But I don't like Marco's pizza, I like Mr Beef's pizza, and that's what I really had a taste for. I decided to just go ahead and see for myself how much they've supposedly changed, so I ordered a sausage pizza, a beef, and a cheeseburger with fries. At first, I thought the pizza was the same, but then I noticed two things as I was eating it. One, I bit into some spots that had way way way too much oregano, and although the sausage was still plenty and very tasty, this time I bit into a bone sliver, which I had to spit out. Even with all of that, I still liked the pizza better than most places, simply because it's so cheesy and has so many slices of sausage in pretty much every single bite. The beef sandwich didn't really appear smaller to me, although it's been several months since I had one. Whether it's smaller or not, though, it's still a pretty good size sandwich. The flavor was still good, although, like some of the others, 'something' was a bit off. I don't know what, or even if I just imagined it, but maybe some sort of an aftertaste! The cheeseburger and fries seemed the same to me. The delivery was fast. But, yes, it's true, the prices HAVE gone up. Some items not by much, but on other items, quite a lot. Still and all, these minor changes are not enough to make me start screaming that I'm never going back there, again. I'll still go. They're still good...or, at least, good enough for here and there.

Yelp
Picked up food from here this past weekend. Of 5 employees only one fully masked was cashier, the one with least amount of contact with food. 2 had over mouth only, the one with his face 6" from my food as he looked in the bag to check order had mask around his chin & guy going in & out bringing supplies up had no mask most of time & when he put it on it was only attached at top so almost pointless. I get it's hot as balls back there but come on, manager needs to just let them duck out for a breather now & then, so maybe they'll do better with safety. Will spend my $ somewhere that cares a bit more about safety.
