I Eat at Sole di Capri in NYC for the Photo-Realistic Tablecloths | Bon Appétit

"A Tribeca Italian-American spot that shifts from romantico-rustico evenings—with white tablecloths and cloth napkins—to a whimsical, nostalgic lunch service featuring one-of-a-kind flannel-backed vinyl coverings printed with photo-realistic trompe l’oeil images of pasta (orecchiette, fusilli), cheeses and loaves of bread. Owner Eduardo Erazo, who has run the restaurant for 13 years, says his wife discovered the coverings in a Northern Italian town three years ago; tourists even ask to buy them, but he refuses to sell. The placemats appear only at lunch because they’re easier to clean and daytime prices are lower. Diners praise the bread display as “fantastic” and “so strange,” and the kitchen serves classic dishes such as tagliatelle alle acciughe; while some consider the pasta-themed décor excessive, many find that it enhances the experience and makes the actual food look even better, with the lunchtime tablecloths alone being a strong draw for patrons." - ByLauren Larson

THE BEST DINING EXPERIENCE! Hands down one of the best dining experiences I have ever had & i do not say that lightly. The owner Alessandro, our waitress Emily, one of the servers Ash they were impeccable. They checked on us consistently and made us feel so catered to and welcomed like we were at home. The restaurant is beautiful and homey. The staff is kind and friendly. And of-course we came to eat and the food was 10/10 AMAZING!! Everything we ordered, the plates were left empty. Everything was fresh, seasoned perfectly, and the portions were great. The dessert was amazing as well, not heavy, and refreshing. The owner went out of his way to make this a great experience and we are so grateful. I will definitely make this our spot when we come to NYC and you should too! I cant say enough about how great the experience was and how great this restaurant is.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mr Capri, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The highlight of my meal was definitely the arancini—crispy on the outside and bursting with flavor. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients, and they’re fried to perfection. What really made the visit special, though, was the warm hospitality. The owner was incredibly welcoming and took the time to check in with guests, making everyone feel at home. Our server was equally delightful—attentive without being overbearing, and she made great recommendations. The overall atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a casual meal or special night out. I’ll definitely be back for more arancini (and to try some of their other dishes). Highly recommend!

If your looking for a laidback spot with amazingly priced fresh food this is the spot!!! I came here for dinner with the girlies and let me tell you we had a time! The Drinks are so strong, the pasta is so fresh and staff is so attentive and nice! 10/10 will come again

Google
I couldn't have picked a better place to host a birthday dinner. Alessandro and his team were incredible, as well as the food and drinks. They were very accommodating as well as gave some recommendations for delicious appetizers to share for 10 people. I had the fettuccini with mushrooms which was out of this world good. I highly recommend Mr. Capri for a group dinner, or even just having a bowl of pasta and a good glass of wine by yourself!

Google
My wife and I stopped in at Mr. Capri by chance one night in October 2024. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the food as much as the bartender - lovely guy, great drinks. The food was outstanding and I have wanted to go back ever since that night. The only downside was that I left my hat on the seat next to me. Fast forward to July 2025 and we finally returned to Mr. Capri. We weren’t three steps in when the bartender says “you’re back, I have your hat!” True story. He came around from the bar and hugged us like old friends. The owner remembered our chat from last time and even the town we lived in. Once again, the drinks and food were amazing. I love this place so much. Believe what everyone says. It’s a rare west village gem and I can’t wait to go back again and again and again.

Google
The happy hour deals (until 7pm) are truly happy at $15 a dish, but unfortunately the food did not deliver. The potato croquettes were pretty good, but the Ziti was very disappointing….

Google
The attention to detail here outshines most other places. Their ingredient selection is quality with ample serving sizes. This spot has geographic advantage and good vibes. Every employee here shows remarkable emotional intelligence. The employees are accommodating, the spot is tidy and I intend to return.

Google
Really cute place with good service and good food. We came here by chance after happy hour nearby and were impressed. Our server was kind and attentive. She helped with recommendations and they took dietary restrictions and allergies seriously. The lemon risotto with shrimp was fantastic. Friends also really enjoyed their pastas. Drinks and wine were really good, not bad prices for the neighborhood. We’ll be back again to try the rest of the menu.

Yelp
We just arrived in New York and were looking for a cute spot near our apartment in Greenwich Village. We found one on Yelp and were on our way there when we passed by Mr. Capri. It immediately caught our eye with its European-style outdoor seating and great happy hour menu, so we thought--okay, we have to try this place out! First of all, the guy who served us was super nice--very detail-oriented and genuinely helpful with his meal suggestions. The pasta took a little while to prepare, but it was 100% worth it. Absolutely delicious, and the whole experience was amazing. We even tagged them on Instagram, and they replied right away. That's exactly how a business should be run! Thank you guys, we will come back.

Yelp
Great happy hour specials but the pasta dishes were way too salty. Had the gnocchi bolognese which was good but extra salty...then had the ziti wit beef and onion sauce ..crazy salty as well and no real flavors stood out...I wanted to love the dishes...hopefully was just an off night

Yelp
Mathias ultimate best service and Mario the boss man, super cool guy. Will definitely be back. Extensive happy hour, food and drinks. All executed perfectly. Celebrated daughter's birthday with her young professional working friends in NYC. Super happy and had a great night. Nice and cozy, romantic, homey, and above and beyond service. Will be back soon!

Yelp
Classy Italian restaurant with good happy hour deals. The rigatoni pasta was unfortunately a really small portion, but it was delicious. The texture of the pasta was perfectly al dente and the meat sauce was just amazing. The focaccia margherita was absolutely to die for, it was huge for an appetizer. The crust was crispy, and the cheese was melted with the tomato sauce. I definitely recommend. The staff were incredibly attentive, and sitting outside during the summer made happy hour so fun. It's a bit expensive, but worth a try.

Yelp
I usually don't write reviews but I just think the manager and the waitress deserves this review. I wish that I could have grabbed their names. The restaurant was hosting a birthday party. So it was noisy which we didn't mind at all. But the manager and waitress were super nice about it. And they apologized, Which of course we appreciated. The attention was great. The drinks were definitely so good. And the food was really good as well. We ordered a margarita pizza and a few drinks. I definitely recommend the centrelle drink . Which it had celery root puree. I loved it. It was my fav drink. But I will mostly come back for their customer service 10/10 and their food as well. Thank you so much for everything. We appreciate it. :)

Yelp
Great food. Fantastic service. I highly recommend this restaurant in NYC. Ambiance and music is perfect

Yelp
We really appreciated the attentive and friendly service. The food was so fresh and they were very accommodating with our allergies. The wine was great and reasonably priced! I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Incredible service by the waitstaff, bartender & manager. Delicious food, we got the smoked burrata special and eggplant Parmesan as appetizers, followed by delicious pasta as the main courses and ended with ice cream.

Yelp
On the corner of 8th Street and McDougall st stands a testament to the rare blend of simplicity, elegance, and exoticism encapsulated in Italy's Isle of Capri. The service was personable by an Italian native, the menu was very interesting and very reasonably priced. The food was flavorful and delicate. Even the oil that one dips ones bread in creative and delicate. My wife's eggplant: "the best I've ever had" was not piping hot when it first came out, so we sent it back to the kitchen. I had a smoked Italian meal that was prepared inside a giant wheel of Parmesan cheese. We did not have dessert there, where else can you enjoy an international quality meal and be offered a four dollar espresso? even though New York offers so many restaurants will be coming back here soon.

Yelp
Had the best time here after stumbling upon it after dinner! Sat at the bar with a friend and the drinks were amazing. The celery root drink is so interesting and good, it's shocking to think there's any alcohol in it. Espresso martini was perfect and so was the spicy marg. Bartender was fantastic and everyone we met was amazing including the owner. 10/10 experience can't wait to go back and eat!

Yelp
Stellar, Stellare, marvelous, meraviglioso - there's the English to Italian translation for you Duo Lingo lovers, for this amazing establishment! Look, it's no surprise that New York has the most Italian dining outside of the country itself, so competition is fierce here. Restaurant Week promotions were coming out and being the first year that I moved to New York, I gathered the gals for a fun Tuesday night dinner. After researching and narrowing down new places, we decided on Mr. Capri. The way they presented themselves portrayed a very family like, intimate and creative ambiance with authentic food, from the island cuisine of beautiful Capri. I arrived earlier than my gfs (not usual) and sat at the (very lovely) bar for a glass of white wine, with quant and kind service. Upon arrival of the group, we sat in the main dining area where both large and small groups were dining and very obviously, having a great time. The space is cozy and not huge but definitely a great setup. The service was great and our waiter was friendly and prompt, and we went with the pre-fixe menu options from RW. What we ordered: Apps: - Parmigiana di melenzane (three cheese baked eggplant, SO YUM) - Caprese (buffalo mozarella salad) - Polipetti alla Luciana (octopus stew, crositini) Mains: - I got the Ziti alla Genovese (lamb shank, ricotta and ribbon pasta) DELICIOUS. - Friends all got the Trancio di pesce spada (swordfish) which they ate all! Desserts we got the flourless cake and the sorbet, which I finished as well. The drinks were wonderful and we got cosmos (so italian) and the bartender came to make sure the drinks were satisfactory, so cute! They were indeed (we had a few, haha) I don't usually eat all my courses down to the crumbs, but we all did here. Everything was fantastic and we only paid $60 + tax + tip for all of it, unreal! They also have brunch deals and RW will be going through Feb, so I DEFINITELY recommend you come here. I think I'll be coming back. They also have a sister restaurant (Bocca) that has great reviews for Roma style cuisine. grazie MILLE la Capri, I feel a bit more ready to go to the real location this summer. Also, I'll be working out extra hard today for all the indulgence! Ciao!

Yelp
i really enjoyed my dinner here. The dining room is relaxing; the food was delicious and service was top notch.

Yelp
Amazing staff & phenomenal food. Very attentive. They have an awesome happy hour. Amazing handcrafted cocktails like celery juice with gin- ahhh mazing. We tried all the pastas from the happy hour- delicious. I felt like I was back in Italy. And don't forget to get dessert. Cannolis were to die for.

Yelp
What an amazing dining experience! I just took a culinary journey to the island of Capri. Beautifully designed dining room and bar area with Mediterranean feel, delicious menu choices , great wine, cocktails and wonderful service.
google avatar

Alexandra M.

Yelp
Service was good, they were really nice and attentive. Food didn't have much flavor. I'm not sure if we went on a bad night but they had ran out of ginger, fettuccine, sprite, etc. so we had to make adjustments to our food and drinks were coming out bad because of the lack of ingredients. The ambiance was a 8/10 very warm and cozy vibe in there. Great people!! I'm hoping it was just a rough night.

Yelp
We came in for dinner on a Thursday night and the place was packed so definitely recommend reservations. The place has a cool vibe and bright white aesthetics that make you feel like you're in the Mediterranean. We ordered the prosciutto e burrata to start, this was a great combination of crispy fried burrata and the salty prosciutto. I went with the pasta special which was fresh pasta, tomato, and cheese, this was simple but tasted fresh and delicious. My friend had the zitti allá Genovese, she enjoyed it but I thought my pasta was better. For dessert we had the torta Caprese, so good! The food and service were really good but it's very overpriced. The appetizers are basically the same price as an entrée in most places.

Yelp
Restaurant interior truly transports you back to the Amalfi coast from the decor to music to food itself. Really enjoyed this experience. Brunch food clearly Not their speciality but still a nice spot

Yelp
My friend and I took a workout class across the street, and I had seen Mr. Capri on insta, so I suggested we stop by there for dinner afterwards. We chose 2 bar seats, and the whole restaurant had a light summery atmosphere that would (I'm assuming - because I've never been) match Capri's vibe. All the waitstaff were from Italy, and seemed enthusiastic about sharing their culture with New York. On to the food! My friend and I shared the meatballs, caprese salad, and ravioli. A nice bread basket came out first, with focaccia, rustic bread, and white bread, as well as a small dish of giardiniera. This got my mouth watering. Next came the meatballs, which were unique in that they had plenty of stewed onions in the sauce. The caprese salad was fine, though I wish I had gotten a juicier, riper tomato, considering it's late July peak season. Finally, the ravioli. I love ravioli, agnolotti, tortellini, all stuffed pasta. I have had ravioli like this growing up in New Jersey, but it's been a while since I had such a great specimen with pillowy ricotta inside. There are only 5 pieces, so we ended up ordering a second plate of ravioli since we loved it so much. I highly recommend trying this 8th St. soon-to-be-hotspot.

Yelp
I've only been here once so far, and I'm ready to declare this my favorite Italian restaurant outside of Italy. The food here, in fact, is even better than most restaurants I've been to Italy. I know, bold claims, but wait till you try it. From the moment you step in, the decor is reminiscent of an Italian beach town, from the wood boarded floors and ceiling, to the colorful doors and details throughout. It's perfect for a date night or to take friends. My husband and I came here and started with the Polipetti alla Luciana (baby octopus) -- absolute must order. The red sauce is impeccable and rich, perfectly spiced. The octopus is beyond tender. Perfect to eat and clean the plate with bread. For mains, I ordered the Linguine alle Tre Vongole. This is often a risky choice in most restaurants, especially if the clams are not fresh. Not the case here. You could taste the quality. The seasoning was light so that the clams could shine. One of the best vongole pastas I've had both in and out of Italy, including better than the Michelin starred Le Sirenuse in Positano. My husband ordered the Ziti alla Genovese, which he said reminded him of his grandmother's cooking in Italy. We ended the night with the Delizia al Limone, but the real star at the end was their dessert special: the baba. It was served with a caramel sauce, chocolate cream, and soaked in rum. I'm so excited to come back here again. What a lovely addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Great example of how fine people meet fine food. Such warm people attending to you, they really go out of the way to ensure you have a great dining experience. We had a large group for dinner and each and every person felt great about the food and drinks. The desserts were great but this is the one I liked and took a picture of, real lemony flavor.
google avatar

Juliet C.

Yelp
Amazing food, service and atmosphere! Have been here for date night , with friends and plan to bring my family here next time. This spot is great for all occasions. Very cute, classy and fun. The lemon (limone) dessert was delicious. Makes me want to go back to Capri this summer!

Yelp
Greenwich village neighbors! Get over here! Just had a beautiful meal in a lovely atmosphere. With nice attentive people. Had a "special" pork chop with a side of Brussels sprouts and it was SO GOOD. They have a lovely back room as well. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
The team here could not have been more gracious, welcoming and accommodating. The space is warm and comfortable. After starting with a delicious Aperol Spritz while waiting for the (late) rest of our party to join, we were seated. The host (who turned out to be Mr. Capri himself) recommended a beautiful and unusual wine that was so good I took a second bottle home with me! The night had been unexpectedly busy, so a number of things were sold out. Not to worry, every dish we had was extraordinary... The Linguine Alle Tre Vognole was sublime, the rabbit ragu delicious, and the ribeye impeccably prepared. Highly recommend this gem, and look forward to returning next time I am in NYC!

Yelp
Had a fabulous dinner here. Unpretentious service in an elegantly appointed space. You can actually hear your conversations. Wine and food were delicious. Worth every penny.

Yelp
We were looking for a great place to eat in the West Village to celebrate our daughter's move to NYC. We got a recommendation from a friend for Mr. Capri - and we could not have been happier! Our host greeted us at the door and immediately sat us in the beautiful, airy dining room. The photographs of Capri and and the colorful tiles made us feel like we had been transported. The waitstaff was great - helping us select Capri inspired cocktails and a great Italian white for dinner. All six of our party loved their meals. The arancini and ragu were particular highlights. We closed our evening with our host and owner who shared stories of his home over glasses of limoncello. We feel so lucky to have happened upon this gem of a restaurant!

Yelp
We had a fantastic dinner Tuesday night. I brought clients from out of town and needed to extend the reservation when I got there. They were extremely accommodating and added another table to ours rather than just pulling up a chair. The service was spot on, provided great food and wine recommendations and were very kind. The restaurant was clean, well decorated and I have to say the glassware - water & wine and flatware were great quality. It's the little things that stick out! Loved our evening and will be returning!

Liv A.

Yelp
Salad was so yummy. I lived above it for a while and LOVED. The lady was so nice! Fabulous

Amy H.

Yelp
Friendly bar service for a solo party - much appreciated. Happy Hour prices were amazing. A delicious Sicilian red and a cheese/meat board that was generous and delicious - every aspect - from the crispy bread, to the olive oil, the olives, cheeses, meats. Can't wait to try everything on the menu.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
Was really excited to try it here but left disappointed. The appetizers were bland or completely missed the mark (do not order the octopus!). I will still give it 3 stars since they're new and likely figuring it out. The shrimp risotto was also delicious and the atmosphere is very cute.
google avatar

Christiana H.

Yelp
Went there for drinks (after a terrible experience at Analogue). What an amazing experience! The entire team was so welcoming and attentive. The drinks were also just so good. La Sirene (Gin martini, anchovie oil, butter and breadcrumbs) was a delight! We ended the night with a round of shots with the bar crew, and it was just an incredible time. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

John Wyatt H.

Yelp
Amazing, hospitable staff & owners. Delicious, well rounded menu, impeccably executed cocktail list, and a rather impressive wine selection. Will be back time and time again.

Yelp
Great addition to the neighborhood! Great service, food and ambiance - need to go back and try more dishes. Everything we ate was delicious!

Grace K.

Yelp
Absolutely loved dining here! The staff is all very attentive, and the food was delicious. I went for a friends birthday dinner and everyone was so happy with their experience and food. I definitely recommend the ravioli caprese! Will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Food was delicious, the atmosphere is quaint and homey, and the service was top notch. We came for restaurant week and had a great time!

Yelp
Only had the prosciutto wrapped burrata but will be back with the boys in due course. Didn't have a Negroni but highly recommend.

Hannah A.

Yelp
Had an amazing brunch with a group of friends here this weekend. The interior is so cute and took us out of the cold NYC winter and into a warm Capri day. The bar is gorgeous and the back dining area is cozy and beautiful. The servers were attentive and helpful when ordering, and all very good looking! The drinks were stellar and we created our own cocktail using the juices and liquors available! The food was incredible, even the basic salad was getting oohs and ahhs from the girls. The various pasta dishes ordered were delicious, there were fights over whether the Rigatoni all'amatriciana, Ziti alla Genovese, or Ragu Napoletano was the best, and I don't think anyone was able to decide. Would absolutely recommend and am looking forward to trying the dinner menu!

Jennifer Z.

Yelp
Food was ok. Embarrassingly the wait staff confused us with another group and made us wait 20 minutes to sing happy birthday when it was no one's bday and we just wanted the check.

Brian R.

Yelp
Wonderful. Great, warm vibe, delicious food with a diverse interesting menu, and attentive, friendly service. My Capri negroni was an amazing, smoky version of the classic, the short ribs outstanding, and the white brick decor transported me back to sunny Capri! Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Gina G.

Yelp
Great, new place. Nice, bright decor. Staff was super attentive and helpful with our ordering. We had the fried burrito and prosciutto - fantastic. Then the risotto with lemon & shrimp - very rich, very nice. The special pasta was unique and awesome with butternut squash, shrimp and a langoustine, which the waiter cut open for me. Great wine, and a limoncello for dessert! Will definitely go back!

Manuel G.

Yelp
I finally found a table for Mr Capri, it is always so busy. I tried the Pasta with Vongole -- Clams. They are perfect, I wish I could do them in the same way. Service was very friendly, and the white of the house delicious. Hands down the bst Italian restaurant in NYC.

Jean P.

Yelp
While the decor is very inviting and elevated, the food was very below expectation. Ambience-wise, there was a permeating stench of detergent/dish soap/mildew in the back dining area, most likely bc the kitchen opens directly into the dining space. There were also fruit flies/gnats floating around our table. I had such high hopes at least for the food as most of the reviews were top notch. However after my experience, I almost wonder if they are real and who is giving them, or maybe I just went on an off night (Tuesday). The lemon risotto I ordered was sour, under-salted, congealed, and had no flavor except for extreme bitterness from poor usage of the lemon. I expected creamy, rich, with a light lemon essence. The shrimp in the risotto was also overcooked and the presentation was just short of horrifying with the shrimp head impaled in the center of the pile of risotto. I barely ate my dish. My date had the fettucine bolognese which was fine but oversalted and lacked the depth of flavor usually built in a classic bolognese. We got the lemon delice for dessert which was also disappointing - where I expected light, lemon, pillowy cake, I got frostbitten flavor, heavy and soggy cake. It tasted as if it had been in the freezer for too long and was old and stale. As for service, Our waitress never checked in us to see how things were going except at the end of the meal to ask if we liked the dessert since we barely touched it - we were honest and instead of offering some kind of remorse/apology she just said "oh", weakly smiled, and took the dessert away - no attempt to offer us something else, comp it, etc. The only plus was the wine and the burrata prosciutto appetizer but unfortunately, this is not enough to give me reason to go back. I work in Milan and have vacationed in Capri and along the Amalfi coast and am very familiar with the food and hospitality - disappointingly, this experience was very far removed.

Ulderico M.

Yelp
I recently dined - again - at Mr. Capri; I must say it was - again - an absolutely, marvelous experience from start to finish. This hidden gem in the heart of the Greenwich village, grants an unbelievable culinary journey, for those like me who spent several summers of my life in Capri growing found of that regional cuisine. The design is contemporary and sophisticated with a very cozy and warm feeling. Soft, ambient lighting create an intimate setting, making it an ideal place for a special occasion. In this place; the food is king! We started with Parmigiana di Melenzane and Polipetti alla Luciana both pure palate delights; "rinsed" our taste buds with the Finocchi e Arance salad (Arugula, shaved fennel, orange, olives, anchovies with a shallots vinaigrette) my mouth is watering while writing. Then, of course, Ravioli Capresi and an Orata with Zucchini alla Scapece on the side. Ok, let me say it, they know how to cook this seabream! simple, essential, tasting; the fish takes center stage, tantalizing the senses; as i brought the fork closer, the first thing that captivated my senses was the mouthwatering scents that wafted up; the tantalizing blend of herbs, and a touch of zesty lemon instantly transported my imagination to sun-soaked Italian coastal paradise. Grazie Mr. Capri, We'll be back.

Yelp
We have been coming here since it opened and couldn't love it more. the owners and all the staff are lovely. The cocktails and quality of the food exceptional. the decor is cheerful and pretty and the acoustic is really good. you can hear the people you have dinner with talk! Which is a rare occurrence in NYC. I have been going to the Island of Capri for 35 years and the quality of the food and the atmosphere in this restaurant take me right back there. I can't recommend Mr. Capri highly enough. Try the Linguine alla tre Vongola ( Pasta with Clams ), it's outstanding And has that special Fennel touch. The Ravioli Caprese are a classic and so delicate and well executed and the side of zucchini alla scapece are wow. There are GF options and great GF bread which made my GF husband so happy. The cocktail menu is very unique and interesting.

Marissa P.

Yelp
10/10, the food, service and drinks were all excellent. Even the complimentary bread, olive oil and veggies are divine

Ulrika N.

Yelp
This is the paradise island of Capri in the middle of Manhattan! Mediterranean summer vibes, simple, fresh & chic atmosphere, sunny colors & authentic decor paired with only the finest quality of food and wine. A girlfriend and I stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon for an Aperol Spritz al fresco and before we knew it we were exploring the menu and trying the best of Italian wines. The menu is an Italian treasure trove and they have a very cool Capri-style pairing menu - a drink & bite combo - at the bar & lounge. Food and wine is very well priced for the quality you get and service is great - friendly and fun. Highly recommend! We'll be back again soon.

Ella T.

Yelp
First time going here, the food was average, the Raghu was tough the bread was stale the dipping sauce with the bread had no flavour, few random servers in there and food came before my drink when the bar clearly wasn't busy. unfortunately I wouldn't recommend. Also the table next to mine had about 8 flys hanging around it, a slight distraction whilst eating.

J L.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, lovely service. I'd go back. Have been here 3x already. All excellent EXCEPT, ironically, the caprese salad. If you can't find decent tomatoes in AUGUST don't bother serving this dish! The tomatoes were terrible. Get Jersey tomatoes or heirloom next time (it says heirloom on the menu) I wish you the best but please fix a signature dish!

Alejandro W.

Yelp
Their tap water was filthy. They had to refill our glasses three times and each time there was stuff floating in the water. We ended up asking for a bottle of water to be safe and instead of offering it free for they charged us 8 bucks for it. The food wasn't great either.
