"Michael Chow made his name in the London and Hollywood art and music worlds before opening in New York on East 57th Street in 1979, where his restaurant quickly became one of the city’s main touchstones for the art world. Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, David Bowie, Madonna, and John Lennon were just a few of the restaurant’s faithful patrons (watch Julian Schnabel’s Basquiat to get a sense of the scene). To this day, a meal at Mr Chow’s is about more than the elegantly served (and expensive) Chinese food. The new outpost in Tribeca is just as beautiful and scene-y—an Andy Warhol portrait of Chow in the dining room sets the tone."

A charming and classy environment. The food quality and service is exceptional. The lamb chop is well prepared and their Duck was tasty. I would make a two recommendations: 1-it was hard eating the Duck and Lamb Chop out of the tin bowls. I recommend they bring it out in a plat bowl, and 2-a sauce of some sort as an option for the Bok Choy. Overall a truly sophisticated experience.

Google
Food was great, service as always. Been coming here for the last 20 Years, the problem is that now they only want you to get the food bundle, even if you want to try many things they keep insisting in the bundle. Really disappointing start of the evening, i said No and he kept insisting that it was the best for the table, we all felt very uncomfortable as they continued to push for the Bundle. I said i would never come back and then they served us our choices from the menu. Great Food, great service but my night started sour having to fight with the guy for over 15 minutes. Peking Duck was awesome, squid pasta in black ink so incredible but i will Never be back again, started reading other reviews and its the same unfortunate strategy of a once great place to have a group and memorable moment.... Unfortunately never coming back again in a party 6 or larger. I hope Mr. chow management start reading the reviews.... Expensive is ok if you leave feeling great ... Not what happened ! Bye Mr. chow this could of been a 5 star, wanted to give it a 2...

Google
For a fine dining the place wasn’t as I expected. Very tight space for both customers seated and the waiters. I tried the chicken satay (overrated but quite good), and other dishes but nothing stood out. For desserts, I quite liked the fresh lychees.

Google
As funny as Hendrix playing banjo, you have to approach this place with a sense of humour. This isn't a culinary experience. The food varies from good green prawns, to edible twice cooked duck (kinda, sorta Peking ish), to bland veggies and turgid noodles, Chinese bolognaise ish. But the service is attentive and funny. The vibe is studio 54, 1980, and the prices pure cocaine. The pinot at 85 was the best value of the meal, despite the contrast of very cheap glasses..again, you gotta laugh. If you have $120-250 per person to blow on a funny experience, come along for the show.

Google
The food tastes microwaved and the drinks weren’t much better unfortunately. The front entrance is worn down, but really the whole place needs a renovation. That being said, the manager last night was fantastic and so hospitable, as were the servers and runners. Talented staff, a shame the kitchen is just not up to par.

Google
Beforehand I would like to express gratitude turs the lovely employees. The customer service from the minute one walks in is wonderful your greeted with high respect and the servers really do go out of their way to help you have a wonderful experience and enjoy a great meal. They are very educated on their menu so not to worry if your a first timer like myself or one that goes all the time they got you cover on meal selections and recommendations . Doors open at 6 pm worth the wait. Please stop by Mr Chow and enjoy. One the best Chinese restaurants in the great Manhattan New York area.

Google
Was an outstanding experience! Prepare to spend over $100.00 per person minimum. The Mr. Chow noodles and the vegetable pot stickers were very flavorful. I ordered the chicken which came with mixed veggies and rice. Drinks are pricey. Much more costly to purchase bottles. Wait staff were exceptional.

Google
Wow, what a ride. I don't think I've ever experienced a restaurant quite like this in all my life. From the first bite of the chicken popsicle until the live noodling performance from Mr Chow himself, this place left me feeling uncomfortable but somehow wanting more. Also. Why do we need to ask for chopsticks and soy sauce in a Chinese restaurant? Hugely expensive, identify crisis and not sure much place for it in today.

Yelp
Mr. Chow is an institution! The ambiance, service, and dishes are all incredible. From the moment you walk in the door the staff is polite and attentive. There are several servers/staff on the floor and they all work together for an exceptional experience. Drinks are never empty and the tables are always cleaned. I was impressed by the smoothness in which they changed the tablecloth after sauce had been spilled on it before the next entrees were served. The food is delicious and I can't wait to return. I appreciate how the original decor/style of the restaurant has stayed the same and much prefer this location to the other NYC location.

Yelp
Not as innovative and cutting edge as it once was, Mr. Chow is solid, consistent and very good. Always great hospitality and service. The cocktails are excellent. The vibe is always great, particularly on Friday and Saturday evening. Not winning any prizes, always pricey, but still a treat.

Yelp
I had the best sea bass of my life and the potstickers (pictured) were a delicious work of art. The lobster shumai were an unusual treat, although more a novelty for the texture than flavor over more traditional shrimp. The staff were amazingly attentive, including repeated breadcrumb service and involvement of the manager with zero issues. We routinely had 3 staff removing or presenting dishes simultaneously. Ambiance was charmingly old world New York. Felt like a hot spot, though we dined on the earlier side and it still managed to feel intimate in our quiet corner booth. It was a wonderful New York experience.

Yelp
Nice place the food is fantastic, the service is fast and the ambiance elegant. Would be back for the steak.

Yelp
Overall: Amazing food. We went with a super large group (14 people) and they were very helpful in ensuring everyone got to try everything. I'd certainly recommend for a special experience or a large group party, but wouldn't say it's somewhere I'd go to often. It's a place for an occasion - as it is very expensive. It seems to have a lot of bad reviews, which I don't agree with. Reservation: Invited by a friend, so I'm not sure how easy or difficult it was. Service: Very fun! The staff were very kind and entertaining. Ambiance: We sat inside and it's a nice restaurant. A bit loud but overall solid experience. Food: Amazing! Every bite was great and they were very accommodating to the group with various dietary restrictions. There was a ton leftover, so we luckily got to eat it for a few days!

Yelp
Food was good but the ambiance is ok. Service was good but needs improvement with attentiveness. We were a larger crowd so not sure if that creates a delay in service but the food is worth the wait. The duck was amazing! It's worth going for the duck.

Yelp
This location is forever bad ass!! Till this day the who's who roll in. Scene always pops and food datum! Consistency always on point. Major downfall, they need to chill with the msg in their recipes. Always feel terrible after eating here. If you want a good scene with good vibes it's here. Classic

Yelp
the horrible reviews foreshadow exactly how you'd expect this restaurant to be -- tacky, overpriced, outdated, and distasteful. food was okay but so scarcely portioned out and expensive ambiance was nice but tables were squished together in a confusing array. furniture is all quite old and falling apart especially in the bathroom the waiter kept pressuring us to do the tasting menu even though we wanted to go a la carte we were also asked to put down a credit card in the middle of the meal before being offered the chèque

Yelp
Love this place for the ambiance and the way the servers dress and acknowledge their customers. Restaurant week was my favorite time here however they have incorporated into the regular menu a multi-person smorgasbord. It's so amazing and you get so much to choose from on the menu of some of the classic favorites. It allows for everyone to try some of everything. Mr.Chow isn't the best Chinese food I've had but I appreciate the experience with the food and the luxury of getting pretty to eat good food.

Tri A.

Yelp
Food was over rated and expensive. Serice was great from all the staff and the ambiance was cozy. I was very disappointed and all the hype about this place. The duck was good. The bathroom is too small and the front is still under some type of construction that you can't really make the name out of the establishment clearly.

Yelp
Average food. Uncomfortable seating. Unreasonably overpriced Good service. Can't figure out why people go there

Yelp
This is New York City, home to the largest Chinatown in the country. How anyone can serve tasteless food they call Chinese food at a place like this is beyond belief. My mind was blown by how bad the food was. Not medium bad but really bad. Absolutely no taste, and textures that were as if they had been taken straight from the freezer given half a microwave dose, and thrown on a plate. Can I say anything nice about the place? No. The service was without any grace, and maybe the only nice touch was the lights that shine up through the middle of the table. But come on, I'm not there for the lights. I'm there for dinner and the food was horrific. I read the reviews and was not expecting much but as I was invited to a birthday dinner, I had to attend and I would say that the negative reviews for this restaurant were not negative enough. They should just blow it up and start again or maybe put a McDonald's in its place. In a city full of terrific Chinese restaurants, Mr. Chow is an embarrassment.

Yelp
In a single word 'Amazing' We met with clients for a business dinner on a Monday evening. Picked the 57th street location. I'd heard of Mr Chow as a fine dining Chinese restaurant and wanted to try it. We picked the the pre fix menu Lobster Shumai, salt and pepper prawns were great appetizers For mains we ordered a sweet and sour fish, a king pao chicken, a fiery beef and a green pawn entree. They were all spectacular The chocolate cake was great The ambiance and vibe were excellent as was the service. From Flower arrangements To table settings, everything was impeccable It is quite pricy, dinner for four was over $600 without ordering any alcoholic drinks!

Yelp
Great experience! The food is pricey but loved the experience & the wait staff was very attentive & spot on with the recommendations.

Yelp
Ate here a few nights ago. Food was okay but worst was the service. I felt like we were talking to a salesman who was pushing far more food on us than we wanted. And of course following his advice we over-ordered by half so a waste of food and money. The decor was great and not too loud so we could all hear each other.

Yelp
My friend and I came before the New Year to have dinner. I took the very first reservation at 5pm. I arrived 15 minutes early. It was very cold. The hostess was very nice and accommodated me so I won't get cold. When people arrived specifically families who live locally would stare down at me as if I did not belong here or I'm not worthy to dine in this restaurant. I was seated right in front of the entrance for outdoor dining which was not warm. Locals especially the elderly would walk by the restaurant and give me dirty looks that I interpreted as how dare you come here let alone eat here. I didn't feel comfortable. The service was slow and the ambiance where we sat was not warm. My friend had to wait awhile to get her ginger ale after the food came out. We ordered the dumplings to share. My friend ordered the shredded beef and I ordered the shrimp and walnut. The food was good but definitely not worth the prices they were charging for especially these dishes were a la carte with no rice or vegetables included. Another thing that was annoying was the persistence of the servers upselling the pre-fixe meal which was over $78 per person. Would I eat here again? Maybe for solo dining and try out the other popular dishes.

Pam H.

Yelp
Went for special occasion. Horrible. Food was prepped and left under a heat lamp. The lobster shumai were like rubber balls, the salt and pepper shrimp was cold and the shell stuck to the meat, the dumplings were cold and gummy. Hideous experience. Sent everything back. And not only the waiter challenged us, a manager came out to reprimand us that we didn't " know about how food is served" and "their food is excellent" and we didn't "know what we were eating". I could've made better shumai in a microwave, I could've made better fried dumplings in a toaster oven. And I have eaten there before and the food was excellent. But it's a Saturday night New York City and none of the "regulars "are in town. So they just threw this crap on our plates thinking it would be OK. Anything but. Horrible experience.

Yelp
Mr chow never disappoints. I just love the decor here , makes me feel timeless. The staff was amazing and knows the menu back and forth. We loved the chicken satay and the drinks were delicious as always . The food always comes out quick and is presented professionally . Top notch service and top tier food . This establishment will never let you down .

Yelp
Cane here on a Thursday night with a reservation still had to wait 15mins for a seat. The ambiance was nice the servers on point making sure cups are filled. One of the servers with the white jacket Was a bit rude and sarcastic! The food was bland the fried rice was Nasty! The chicken satay was alright my Ma Mignon was ok! The best thing we had was the salt and pepper prawns! My lychee martini didn't live up to my expectations Don't believe the HYPE!

Yelp
A group of 8 of us went to this restaurant based on a recommendation from a family friend. First of all, the restaurant is very small and there are not too many options to seat a large group so that was awkward. Next, the menu is pre fixe which was different than I expected. It's 120$/person and depending on the size of your party, you choose 1st and 2nd course dishes to share. Our group of 8 was told to choose 4 1st course dishes and 4 2nd course dishes. We chose lobster shumai, water dumplings, pot stickers, and the noodles. I will say that the 1st course dishes were fairly good ( I'd say 3 of 5 stars). For the 2nd courses we ordered chicken Joanne, sweet and sour pork, fireworks beef, and the chicken and walnut dish (I forgot the name). The second course also came with mixed vegetables and veggie rice. The rice smelled funny and was so bland! The veggies were cooked nicely, but no flavor at all! The chicken and walnut, firery beef, and sweet and sour pork were decent but could have had it at panda express for about the same flavor and waaaayyy less expensive! The chicken Joanne was one of the worst things I've ever eaten! It should be taken off the menu completely! Do not waste your time or money eating here....the food is unseasoned and basic. I hated spending 1200$ on the worst meal we had on our week long trip to NYC. We had much better meals for 1/4 of the price.

Jen O.

Yelp
Great food, amazing service. I took my husband here for his birthday and he enjoyed the food. They really made him feel special as the birthday guy. The fiery beef and chicken satay was delicious.
google avatar

Aaron J.

Yelp
Overhyped overpriced and flavorless! My partner and I celebrated valentine's day at Mr Chow last night. The hostesss and the staff were very accommodating and cordial. The seating arrangement was poorly designed and congested with zero room to sit comfortably. The prefixed valentine's menu at 225 a person for 3 courses seemed very expensive at first glance. The food was bland with poor presentation to boot. The final bill was $600 usc with tax and gratuity for this overpriced overrated insipid meal. If you want to be seen and be around rich people go there. If you want value for the food you pay for go to Chinatown.

Judith N.

Yelp
A depressing shadow of its former self. Stripped of art. Architectural features neglected. Food was fine but expect to be uncharged for the prix fixe when you don't request it. And also expect to receive half portions for quadruple the money. That only Works when the experience is fabulous. Unfortunately the experience has become quite underwhelming and the joint is just dirty
google avatar

Yelp
Very overrated restaurant! The food was "OK." but frankly, PF Chang's tastes WAY better for a lot less money and much more comfortable seating. Also, our dinner was interrupted by some kind of weird noodle- making show, where the chef came out of the kitchen, the ambient music stopped, the waiters all froze in place, the the restaurant suddenly became silent as we were all forced to watch a 10 minute live demonstration of Chinese noodle making. WEIRD AND UNCOMFORTABLE!! Why the f&@$ would anyone who doesn't make Chinese noodles want to watch that? Also, isn't that what YouTube is for? Do I really need my dinner interrupted by this nonsense? Watching the Benihana hibachi show is WAY more interesting and entertaining than this. I honestly don't understand why I couldn't have just watched that on the internet. Frankly this restaurant is for pretentious snobs who like to believe their getting something special, while they're really just getting over-priced mediocre Chinese food at a place to see and be seen. Ugh. Dinner for two, with tip, was $335.08, and that was with only one cocktail for my wife (I drank water). At Joe's Stone Crab in Miami Beach, I don't mind paying that much. Any Ruth's Chris restaurant? No problem. But Mr. Chow? I don't think so. But if they got rid of the noodle-making show, had more comfortable chairs, and maybe had some more traditional items on the menu (like General Tso's chicken, egg rolls, or hot and sour soup, for example), I would add a couple of stars. Of course then it would just be another Chinese restaurant, and they'd have to rely on FOOD QUALITY AND TASTE, rather than "atmosphere," "showmanship," or whatever you call this façade for a good restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
The hostess with the mostest Sonia was very accommodating, sat us by the bar. Had great view for people watching and had some delish food!

Yelp
Craving Duck? Take a Hard Pass on Mr. Chow's Gambler's Duck. If you have a craving for duck, don't go for the Gambler's Duck, which my waiter described as popular and similar to Peking duck. Gambler's Duck is two drumsticks with dark tiny scraps mixed in with skin fried to a crisp and served on a small platter. While I sat and ate my meal, I kept watching my waiter showing off the premium menu item (whole duck) to other patrons before whisking it away for carving. No breast slices nor tender cuts are included in Mr. Chow's Gambler's Duck and when my waiter asked me if my meal was satisfactory, I complained that I got none of the prime cuts of the duck. My Waiter's retort was I should return with 3 people to order the whole duck meal. Gambler's Duck = Pot Luck

Vincent S.

Yelp
Amazing food. Crispy beef my favorite along with bok Choy. 10 for service. Everyone goes out of their way to accommodate all customers. As clean a restaurant as you will ever see. A little pricey, but this isn't bodega Chinese food. If you're ever in Vegas, try their location there. It's beautiful.

Yelp
The service at Mr Chow is truly impeccable from the moment you walk in. However, i'm not sure what some people rave about when it comes to food. After being seated, the waiters graciously didn't sit anyone directly next to us which i really appreciates. the tables have lighting on them so you can read the menu more clearly, however the chairs are extremely uncomfortable and outdated. No man would enjoy sitting in that chair, it needs to be changed and the rest of the restaurant needs a flip too. The 80s look should be kissed goodbye. I had the chicken satay which was really good and the pot stickers were the highlight of the night, i should've had 10 orders of those and called it a night. When it came to main dinner, the portions were typical manhattan (super small) and untynately not impressive. the drunken fish which was supposed to be drunk with wine tasted like honey syrup and overpowered any appetite i had left. the four color cauliflower was dyed different colors but tasted good/plain, and the crispy beef didn't really have any beef in it and was very oily. Overall i wasn't impressed and i was hoping the reviews weren't legit but they are.

Yelp
As much as I wanted to love the food here (for the prices), I did not have a stellar food experience, especially waiting an extra 30-40min past our reservation time. The staff was very nice! They were attentive, frequently stopped by to ask questions and clear our plates, brought out food in a timely manner, and even the bartender was generous when we were eating for our table and getting drinks. As for the food: nothing was above the bar. We got the appetizer noodles (hand drawn with a cute show by the chef in front of the whole restaurant), but even the noodles were a little too soggy for me. The other dishes were ok. Favorites: dumplings, bok choy (expensive), Peking duck (very well priced considering you get a whole duck, but the wrap and veges side were ok, at one point, I only ate the duck by itself), chicken satay Ok: fried rice (still good to have a rice dish, but nothing special), and their interpretation of general Tso's chicken Disappointed: lobster Shu Mai, noodles (the beef was great on top, but the soggy noodles took away from it) The hype may be too much, but the staff and some dishes made up for the experience.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have been to the Beverly Hills location so we wanted to try the OG in NYC when I brought him to meet my family. The service and attitude of the staff was exceptional. I still don't get the hype about the Mr. Chow noodles but the kids (11 & 14) loved the squid ink noodles, soup dumplings and petit filets. I'm a fan of the duck and the lobster shumai. The atmosphere was classy and classic and while I could skip going back to the Beverly Hills location, I can see us returning to this location.

Yelp
I think 3 stars is a little generous. Service was great. The food however, was overpriced and just not good. You can eat at a one star Michelin restaurant for the price of your bill and treat you taste buds to something special. There was barely any beef in the crispy beef dish. And the filet mignon was really disappointing. It almost feels like you're eating at a Panda Express. They had a packed house and I can't understand why. You've been warned.
google avatar

Savvy T.

Yelp
I was disappointed. This buzzy restaurant is fun with a group or the place to go for reliable drinks and people watching. Maybe. The food was neither interesting or tasteful, nor were the cocktails and wine. Unless you're with a group to celebrate something or company you'll enjoy wherever you are, you might feel rushed and left with a check worth the price of a special dinner but without a memory to go with it. Blah. The three stars is me giving the benefit of my doubt to those people who, through the years, have apparently grown to love this place. It's reputation is not lost on me, and perhaps Ill return and edit this review. But for now I'm unimpressed.

Corky S.

Yelp
Just got home from the worst meal of my life. I would not even call this Chinese food. I ordered the noodles appetizer which consisted of some mediocre linguine covered in a flavorless chunky sauce with sticks of celery on the side. Next we got two orders of the bok choy. On the menu it says the sides are 16$ per person but there is a minimum of two people for ordering them which we were not explained well and it says very small on the menu. Basically this means one order is 32$ not 16 and it comes with about ten pieces of slimy bok choy which would be 3$ per floret. So we paid 64. But, if you are alone you can order it for a single person which would be 16 but they automatically charge you double an order if you are with other people. They purposely do not explain this to you and the menu is intended to confuse you. Next came the fried rice if you could call it that. What came was white rice with chunks of egg, edamame and boiled shrimp. Absolutely no sauce or flavor or other vegetables. It was more of a cold rice salad. Following that was the scallion pancakes which were fine. I asked if they had a dip for it and he said no, you can use the hot sauce on the table. I don't understand how there can be no sauce not even soy sauce. A Chinese restaurant with not an ounce of soy sauce on anything or on the side. I don't know how this place is allowed to be called a Chinese restaurant and for the prices, this is criminal. Do not go. A Panda Express is Michelin compared to this.

Deborah L.

Yelp
Service here is impeccable and very unpretentious. We had a reservation and didn't wait for the table nor were we rushed after. The set up is perfect with partitions and guarding plus the space heaters really do the job. The table is lovely with flowers and beautiful china and linens. The food is tops and we tried everything but our favorites are always the chicken satay with the peanut sauce. Drinks were generous. What a great experience let's support our local restaurants and tip generously these people are working hard to get our great city back on its feet. Thank you Mr Chow for making us very happy.

Marsha T.

Yelp
The food was less than good but edible. Nothing stood out. But for a place that expensive, there should be a dress code. There were children there with their feet on the seats, laying down, on iPads, and people in sweatsuits and sneakers. The fact that waiters had tuxes but the guests can wear anything brought down the ambiance for me. I cannot spend that kind of money for ok food and feeling like I'm eating in a food court.

David C.

Yelp
3rd time here and I think I'm done . Very cramped loud and way overpriced for the quality of food . Guess you just need to come see for yourself but there's a reason they only have assets in cities that will over pay

Maryam A.

Yelp
Food is great here but pricy. Worth the try. The service is good here. I will go back.
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
Way overrated! Ppl who rave about the food here have obviously never had real Chinese food. The best thing about that restaurant is the staff.
google avatar

Peter D.

Yelp
The gamblers duck is essentially inedible. It is deep fried cardboard my chows noodles are bland pasta. Years ago this place was great. I am doing you a favor by advising you to look elsewhere for your Chinese food.

Margaret V.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. I truly have never had worse Asian food anywhere. We had the potstickers which floated in a plate of oil . The scallion pancake tasted like a ball of flavorless raw bread dough in the mouth, the sautéed vegetables were oily and veggies raw, the sweet and sour pork entree was far more pineapple and peppers and very little pork and just coated in a overly sweet sauce, the filet mignonette was inedible as it tasted like it had been marinated in liquid smoke. This place was big in the 90's. It's clearly corporatized and OVER!

Yelp
Having enjoyed Me Chow in LA for many decades before moving to a small, sleepy beach town on the east coast, I was jonesing for some great Chinese cuisine. My sister and I took a holiday trip to NYC and we added Mr Chows to the "must experience" list. Service was great but the food was mediocre at best. They jammed guest into tables so tight, the people next to me had to move if I wanted to use the ladies room. We had the family style menu- where we ordered some appetizers (lettuce wraps and mr chow noodles) and 2 main dishes ( crispy beef & duck). The food was bland and all tasted the same. I had the duck, which was just a plate of fatty skin. My sister and I kept looking at each other - we could not believe how bad and under seasoned everything was. Our bill with tip was $ 350 (I had 2 cocktails) and we felt like we were gypped. I don't mind spending money on a great culinary experience, but this dinner was certainly one of the worst meals I've ever had. We were both so disappointed. Next time we're going to Chinatown and have an authentic Chinese meal. Mr. Chow has lost the plot.

Yelp
Declared as my favorite restaurant!!! I love lychee Bellini... super attention! The food could not explain how spectacular it is... very very good!

Gary R.

Yelp
I went to Mr Chows on Tuesday night. I had my daughters graduation during the day. We came back to my apartment and had some appetizers since our dinner was in the evening. We were a party of seven. We arrived on time for our reservation. We were promptly seated next to Marth Stewart. The waiter gave us all menus, and it had a pre fix portion and a regular menu (same page) as an option, with appetizers, main dishes and sides. Since some of us were not that hungry we decided to order six main dish's, and four sides. When I gave the waiter the order, he stated that he would suggest and "insisted" that we order from the prefix menu, which was $115.00 per person. I told him we were not that hungry and we would stay with the order I was going to give him. He said, I need to talk to the manager. He came back and said he would take our order this time but next time if we don't order the prefix, we should not eat here. Understand, the restaurant was 50% empty. Our table would never have been filled that night. We all wanted to leave, but since we were there, lets just place our order. The food came out. It was very good. Very small portions. It was a sufficient amount for all of us. The bill was $400.00 as opposed to what the waiter wanted it to be at $800.00. When he gave me the check, I told him, the way he presented himself with my ordering, I found disgusting. I told him I have been to every restaurant, including Mr Chows in Miami. We were a family that was very dressed appropriately for the restaurant. I also told, you would never see me in his restaurant again, including everyone I know. Besides it's a very outdated restaurant, unfriendly staff. Their goal is to get you to spend a lot of money so the tip is double what it should be. We have many choices where to eat. If your goal is to rack up a large bill, with small dishes, this is your place. I do NOT recommend this place even for a special occasion. The guy selling hot dogs on the corner will give you more respect. If you don't care about decor, save your money and go to Wo Hop (China Town) by Limo. You will save a fortune and have had better food and service! We should have been welcomed into Mr Chows considering they were empty. Very empty! Instead, they left a bad taste in my mouth. Their attitudes were from a City, long ago. This City (NYC) doesn't warrant restaurants with attitudes. Those days ended ten years ago. They probably won't sign their next lease renewal because they are not doing the business they use to do. Gee. I wonder why??. Go elsewhere.

Yelp
For starters, ignore the bad reviews because they couldn't be more inaccurate. Mr. Chow is wonderful! The service is impeccable, food is outstanding, and ambiance is comfortable and inviting. We had reservations and couldn't get our table right away so the Maitre D' provided us with two glasses of champagne on the house. We finally found our table and ordered a bottle, which was poured for us immediately. A server approached us within minutes of sitting and recommended the Mr. Chow Prix Fixé based on our desired order. Food: - Lobster Shumai: FINALLY a restaurant in NYC that knows how to make shumai correctly. If it's made right it doesn't need a sauce. The dish speaks for itself and it's lovely. There are two tiers with 3 shumai on each. - Chicken Satay: MUST ORDER. The butter sauce that tops the tender chicken is delicious. I'm used to eating a dry piece of chicken and usually avoid this dish but I heard we had to try. I'm so happy we did because we left and couldn't stop talking about that sauce. - Mr. Chow Noodles (Vegetable): Absolutely perfect. I don't know how anyone could say something bad about this dish, unless they're used to American style greasy noodles. I will order this again without hesitation. The table next to us said they wished they had ordered it after seeing it. So good! - Shrimp Fried Rice: Perfectly cooked fried rice with limited shrimp. I wish there had been more shrimp but again, the rice on its own was so delicious that I didn't realize the lack of shrimp until later. - Bok Choy: Al dente and flavorful! I'm happy we went with this vegetable dish because it perfectly complimented our entrees. - Green Shrimp: OMG!!! You have to order this dish! I can't express how much we loved this dish. Plenty for two people, delicious, addicting. - Chilean Sea Bass: Tasted like candy with a tasty sauce. Four thick slices of sea bass, tender, and hearty. I wish there were more of it. Still, very impressed and happy we ordered. - Lychee: How can you beat this dessert? Fresh and the perfect dish to cap the night. There are many reviews stating Mr. Chow is too expensive for what you get... I didn't have that experience and I'm a foodie. If you don't want to pay the rate then go to a lower end Chinese restaurant. The service is fantastic... our table was cleaned instantly and champagne topped off without ever asking. We'll be back! Thank you!

Yelp
This place is a New York staple. Over the years, no doubt, it can become challenging to maintain a 4 or 5 star review, so it's no surprise Mr Chow is sitting at 3 stars right now. But believe me when I tell you, this is not a 3-star restaurant. For starters, let's get it out of the way -- this place is very expensive. So, if you the cost of the meal is going to inhibit your enjoyment, then stay away. But, if you are able to put cost aside and enjoy the meal for what it is, I doubt you will have anything short of an excellent experience. The food itself is top notch chinese. They are famous for their chicken lettuce wraps and chicken satay, both of which are absolutely delicious. You really can't go wrong with any of the entrees, ranging from a whole roast duck to their delicious chicken and steak entrees. The service is also top notch; clearly a focal point of the restaurant. The ambiance is nothing to write home about, but again, this is an old school NY staple that's been around for decades. I was there just a few days ago and had a stellar meal.

Yelp
Horrendously overpriced for food worse than you would get from a Chinese take-away. Absolute tourist trap. It has the facade of being a high end restaurant with liveried waiters, but at the end of the day it is all sizzle and no sausage.

Yelp
Worst dining experience I've ever had. Food Portions are minuscule for $60. Waiters cleared plates as I was eating. The noodles look like dog food. $60 fish is maybe a 3 oz portion of sea bass. Just sea bass. No rice. White and slimy. Constantly being rushed. Attitude given when we didn't upgrade our food to add rice and vegetables for $30 more. Was very confusing. The decor is similar to a funeral home... but worse. I would suggest PF Chang's or even Panda Express instead of this place. HORRIBLE.

Yelp
Overpriced underwhelming food, overweening personnel. This place probably lives off the memory of the good old days. The crispy beef was sub par: drowned in sauce and soggy. The sautéed rice - their signature dish - was dry and had an unpleasant fishy smell. The rest was unimpressive. I won't come back. Ciao ciao Mr Chow
