The 19 Best Ice Cream Spots In NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"This Flatbush shop is owned by a father (Mr. P) and his son, who’ve developed a loyal following for their soursop ice cream since opening in 2022. That sweet-and-tangy soursop is our favorite flavor here, but every guest gets three free samples, and you should use them all. That way, you can also try beets and ginger, coconut, or avocado, which tastes like the real thing, with just a light sweetness. The ice cream here leans icier than creamier, so it’s perfect for those hot, sticky summer days when you dream of standing inside a walk-in freezer." - bryan kim, willa moore, sonal shah, molly fitzpatrick, kenny yang

Google
The best icecream 🍦 in NYC. Quality ingredients. Made with love. So many different carribean flavors. Shout out to Dwuane for explaining everything to us and being so kind. The icecream is perfectly sweet. Nice custard. I give this place 10 star. Vegan and Dairy free options with icecream and cakes and shakes. The peanut and banana were my favorite. The ginger flavors outrageous. The mauby tree bark so unique and delicious 😋. Guava and grape nuts great. Charcoal was fun. The elderberry and ginget special was outrageous. Beautiful inside. Well be back. Top notch.

Google
Today we tried ice cream from here. Homemade is real, consistency of the ice cream looks like sorbet, but omg the soursop flavor? yummy. Creamy and lychee undertone real soursop. Cant wait to go back and try more. Avocado tho? eh, cause it tasted too sweet and not thick enough for me. Sea moss was also kinda soapy tasting idk thats our opinion tho. It smells so good inside the cakes they have? I really wanted some, it was so tempting. But highly, strongly, and encourage u to get soursop flavor if you love soursop.

Google
I’ve tried a dozen times and no matter who is at the shop or how little or how many customers are in there, the service is not only terrible and unfriendly- it’s slow. I’ve also tried several flavors and varieties- dairy, vegan, sorbet and I don’t like it. Catch me at Island Pops, where the people are efficient and friendly and the ice cream is creamy, flavorful and delicious.

Google
Amazing ice cream… my favorite are the grape nut and soursop. Also their carrot cake is absolutely delicious. Good place to get your homemade ice cream and cakes 💯😉

Updated review 8/14/24: Mr. P’s is still here serving the most delicious homemade ice creams with so many flavors to choose from. Today, I decided to get the soursop cherry ice cream in a cup and boy oh boy, I’m happy with my choice. It is extremely refreshing and delicious. 09/7/23 I stopped by to try a scoop of soursop ice cream. It was sweet but delicious. They have so many unique and different flavors. I’m excited to visit again to try out the other flavors. The decor is very colorful and nice.

Friendly staff! Vegan and dairy options. Glad I tried this spot. Would recommend!

Google
Brilliant flavorful Caribbean inspired ice cream many unique (charcoal, seamoss etc) and some classical flavors (20 ish total with 10 vegan), large portions (3 scoops was nearly a pint), good prices ($3 per scoop), some indoor seating and they allow sampling. Definitely recommend. My favorite flavors were the sorrel ginger (a lovely warming spice with some tartness that while chilled is just something else. One of the best sorbets I have ever had) and charcoal (not very smoky but a brilliant black). The chocolate and vanilla were also quite good. Will comeback to have more.

Google
Wonderful small family-run ice cream parlor with creative and delicious Caribbean flavors. The place is popular with the locals and there can be a line but the wait is worth it. The ice cream is fresh and taste authentic without a strong heavy cream feel, more a natural texture. It’s $4 for a 4 Oz cup, $8 for a 8oz, $13 for a 16oz and $25 for a 32oz container. You can mix and match flavors in those cups.

Yelp
Trinidad x Caribbean inspired ice cream flavors ? Say less ! They have a large offering, something for everyone. Vegan Ice Cream- Made with oat milk, agave & natural flavors. servings come in three sizes, in a cup or cone. Honestly don't let the price disuade you, this is home made small batch ice cream. They also have beverages and baked goods available. My favorite so far is soursop.

Yelp
I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Mr.P in person. Wonderful man and he was so informative. He gave me a card so every visit I get a stamp and once I get to the end I'll get free icecream. The unique icecream flavors are breathtaking. I try the sorrel icecream. Flavorful The overall store was very clean, organized and colorful.

Yelp
Really good ice cream. Lots of vegan options with i love ! Service was great. The young lady helping me was very knowledgeable. They have a loyalty program too. She informed me that they sell cakes too. I'll definitely be back soon.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this ice cream shop for a long time. I was so happy to have been in this area for brunch. We went there and I felt the warmth and friendly atmosphere of this shop. It reminded me of an ice cream shop; I use to frequent as a child. The service was amazing and everything I tasted was delicious. I ordered the ginger sorrel, guava and soursop. I definitely recommend this place and will be back with my family soon.

Yelp
Walked here from Queens on a hot summer day for a YES! event and had the best reward of tasting Mr P's ice cream. This place was packed on arrival. My boo and I had to wait outside until there was a smidge of room to stand inside. The decor was nice and the seating area was tiny. A few stools by the bar height table next to the window. Mr P himself was there and he and his helpers were truly extraordinary. They let us taste as many flavors as they had available (some were sold out)! And we got to choose a few flavors for a small cup which holds more than you'd expect. One of the flavors I got was the charcoal and don't dismiss it before you try it. It was actually really good and divine. It was so refreshing compared to the other flavors and it tasted like charcoal but sweet and not gross!!! It was absolutely epic. We did get some other flavors too, that were also good. One thing to note is that their ice cream isn't actually creamy. The texture is more like ices or sorbet. I have some pictures from back then and when I locate them I'll post it here. Happy eats!

Yelp
On Juneteenth, hubby and I dropped by this ice cream shop for ice cream of course. It was so hot, we needed something to cool down. That day, this shop was also giving away free ice cream for kids between 2-6pm which I thought was commendable. They had a DJ playing music outside and creating a buzz. There were so many people going in for ice cream. I've been wanting to bring my hubby here so he can try their yummy ice cream and he finally got to. They let you try 3 flavors before you have to choose the one you want. My hubby settled on the coconut flavor. I even got him to try very and ginger even though he doesn't like beets and he liked it. Mic drop!!! I got 1 scoop of sorrel and ginger and 1 scoop of beet and ginger. Now I have 2 flavors I like at this place. We both got the smallest size which was $4 each and they give you 2 scoops for that price. It was plenty. Definitely check out this place. It's family owned and the staff are really friendly, helpful and down to earth. Don't forget to bring your punch card so they can punch it for your purchase. I'm looking forward to bringing my family and friends to try this place.

Yelp
So while I was waiting for my Uber to pick me up from an event, I made a quick pit stop at Mr. Ps Ice Cream Shop because I saw pastries at the window and wanted to bring something sweet for my daughter. They had a variety of choices, such as red velvet cake and lemon cake but what caught my eye was the slice of strawberry cake since that is my daughter's favorite flavor. When my daughter first took a bite out of it, she almost took a bite out of my finger when I tried to grab a piece. Fortunately, I was able to get some and immediately wished I had bought the whole cake. It was full of rich flavor. I tasted strawberry, icing, and heaven all in one bite. So now I know what cake to get for my birthday because that was the best damn cake I've ever had.

Yelp
I adore Mr P's Ice Cream! This is the closest ice cream parlor to my job. It is close enough to be included in my "extended lunch break." Being West Indian, I was already familiar with most of the flavors but the flavor combinations were a pleasant surprise AND the actual taste exceeded my expectations. On my first trip, I came in right before the early evening rush while allowed for a brief tasting of several flavors facilitated by Mr P Jr aka Dwayne. I was most impressed with the Guava which was a rich creamy version of the fruit flavor and enjoyed every lick of it! Now I religiously get the Butter Pecan shake or a small container of the ice cream which you can taste the flavor coming from the ground pecans instead from processed liqueur. The consistently is not smooth but doesn't take away from its natural flavor. The customer service is just as good as the first time at all my subsequent visits. I also enjoy that they sell cake by the slice which is missing at other ice cream parlors. I only opt for a slice of strawberry cake when it is available because the cake is so moist and the icing tastes like sweeties. Needless to say, I recommend you stop in for a taste for yourself!

Yelp
Always a delight! Always a delight! I met the owner and the picture of him was spot on. They let you sample the flavors before purchasing. I always purchase 2 my favorite and a new one. You cannot go wrong with any flavor!

Yelp
Delicious ice cream with unique flavors awaits at this spot. Among my favorites are the grapenut and avocado flavors. The staff is consistently friendly, and they offer samples to help you decide. It's easily the best dessert option in the area, with a few seats inside that are typically available.

Yelp
It's a cute little ice cream shop. Dwayne was friendly and accommodating. I sampled a couple of flavors before I decided. I liked the soursop but the sorrell ginger was a miss. It was very sweet with only a hint of sorrell. I was disappointed that they were out of grapenut. I chose the soursop. I will come back because it is close to me. Hopefully they'll be fully stocked soon. If you aren't looking for this place, you could easily miss it. I didn't know it was here until I got the Yelp invitation.

Yelp
A family-owned business serving up delicious caribbean flavored ice cream in the heart of Brooklyn. I tried the activated charcoal ice cream and lemon ginger which were both delicious. The Lemon ginger was packed with ginger flavor and was so refreshing on this hot summer day. I also got a slice of vanilla cake which was heavenly.. Mr. P's son was behind the counter and was so friendly and hospitable. He greeted everyone that walked in and was so knowledgeable on flavors and ingredients. There's also a spacious seating area and dope artwork throughout the establishment. I can't wait to visit again to try more unique flavors like the avocado & soursop... Ig:thefunfluencer

Yelp
Activated charcoal!?? I've heard of that for skin care... but as an ice cream flavor??? I didn't even know this was edible so imagine my surprised when I was told this was one of their most popular flavors. Curiosity killed the cat though, so of course I had to try it and it was really good! It's also vegan, so it wasn't cream based and was actually pretty light to eat. I'm not exactly sure how it's made but it had a grainy (almost like charcoal bits??) texture to it. They also have a lot of interesting flavors, like sea moss and mauby and soursop which I thought was pretty cool. Definitely worth a drop by!
google avatar

Yelp
Mr. P is a solid 4 for me. It has the old fashion vibe and it features many flavors including a few vegan options. I love seeing flavors other than chocolate for ice cream. This is a place to go especially if you're looking to try more Caribbean flavors. I truly digged the Beet and Ginger and Mauby. Peanut was great and creamy too! Looking to return to try more. Every scoop is $3. Very friendly staff and clean space to visit. Can't wait to return! They also sell milkshake and cakes.

Yelp
Lovely staff and such insanely good ice cream. My favorite flavors are banana pudding and butter pecan. They are always playing great music and are super friendly, love this place.

Yelp
This is one of the best milkshakes I've had in a long time. The ingredients were fresh and all of the flavors I tried were delicious. The service was great and they answered all my questions. They even have vegetarian options so everyone can enjoy. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
This ice cream shop is bright & vibrant with colors. I absolutely love it. The guy behind the counter who assisted my friend and I was really cool. His name is Dwayne :) we got to sample many different ice creams and there was also cake slices to choose from. My 1st sample was the Coconut which I love followed by the Grape Nut which was also amazing, and then hearing my friend who wanted to sample the Avocado ice cream....I on the other hand was a bit skeptical lol but I ended up trying it and believe it or not it actually tastes really really good I would order it in the future. As my friend said, it is very refreshing. I wanted to get the Peanut Milkshake, but he said he didn't have enough to make a full milkshake because of Labor Day weekend. A lot of the ice creams was low, which I understood that means great business :) Dwayne mentioned to us that we can mix and match any flavor ice cream to make a milkshake so I decided to get the Grape Nut and Coconut milkshake which was a great combination. I brought my son along, and he wanted Cookies and Cream ice cream but they didn't have at the moment so he went for his next favorite which is Butter Pecan and that was absolutely delicious. I purchased a small cup size for him which was $3 dollars. My friend sampled quite a few of there ice cream's which was there Charcoal yes you read it right lol it was indeed black like tar and I automatically assumed that it was made with black food coloring but Dwayne corrected me lol and let me know that it was made with the charcoal powder which I did hear about before. She also sampled there Soursop, Grape Nut and Avocado. There was probably more she sampled, but I was too busy enjoying my milkshake lol. She ended up getting the Soursop and Grape Nut milkshake which she said was absolutely delicious. She said she could taste both flavors within the milkshake which is a big plus. This ice cream shop is a definite must. Please go check them out your taste buds will thank you and you can thank me later I highly recommend cheers :)

Yelp
Listen, Nostrand is always brimming with Caribbean energy but on today (Sept. 2) with the West Indian Day Parade days away, the energy was uncontainable. I slow wined (okay, actually not) into Mr. P's Ice Cream excited to see an array of flavors that pay ode to the stomping grounds of the people in and around the neighborhood. Behind the ice cream case was Mr. P's son, Dwayne, who was super friendly and engaging with customers. The menu displayed traditional flavors such as chocolate, butter pecan, and coffee; Caribbean flavors included mauby, grape nut, soursop and sorrel ginger among others. Went with my absolute favorite -- cookies n cream. I know it's safe, considering all of the speciality flavors available here. But I love it and I enjoyed it. However, I didn't leave without a speciality flavor. I sampled the sorrel ginger and knew I had to order a cup ($6.00) for the road. The spice of the ginger complimented the sweetness of the hibiscus perfectly. Mr. P's Ice Cream is among several other Black businesses, which is nice to see. Begin your work day at Lips Cafe; then immerse yourself in culture at I AM CARIBBEING; grab vegan lunch or dinner at Aunts et Uncles; scarf down baked pastries from Immaculee Bakery; close your day with an ice cream pint from Mr. P's. Sounds like a good day to me!
google avatar

Phil H.

Yelp
Passing Mr. P's I had a sudden urge for ice cream. Having seen Mr. P's recently opened I decided to drop in. Greeted by a smiling young man(found out his name was Dwayne) he asked me what my desired tastes were. After I told him I was a sweet not bitter person, he offered me a taste of whatever flavor excited me. After trying 3 different flavors I settled on the strawberry. Oh so good! Definitely the best homemade ice cream I ever had. Overall a great place to enjoy some frozen treats. As one of the wall paintings said "Skip dinner and get straight to the pint". Yeah it's that good I would do a pint for dinner instead of anything else.
google avatar

Yelp
Seeking last minute ice cream for a toddlers birthday party, I yelped the top places in Brooklyn and dove into the reviews. Arriving at the ice cream parlor I was greeted with smiles and a chill of excitement for the samples... unfortunately you only get three samples so I had to fine tune my decision. I locked in the Beet Ginger, the vegan version, and the Soursop (google it). The beet was subtle and the ginger surprisingly sweet, it was a great unexpected medley of flavor; obviously I left with a pint. The other choice was the Strawberry, the safe but decadent choice for a kids party... who doesn't like strawberries right. The staff were informative, knowledgeable, and were split in the decision of me wearing crocks in March . Service: 5/5 Options/Variety: 5/5 Flavor: 5/5 Price: 5/5 Location: 5/5 Well worth the trip from Newark.
google avatar

Richa T.

Yelp
Pros: + Friendly Staff + Exotic and fun flavors + "Skip dinner and go straight to the point" + Variety of cakes by the slice and milkshakes too + Small portions - a 2 oz sample is about $3 Cons: - Difficult to park nearby - Limited indoor seating IG: QueenOfAdventureNYC

Yelp
If you know Mr.Ps then this is no surprise! If you're a Brooklyn native and had the opportunity to get ice cream from his cart on a hot summer day, you know how good it is! This trini ice cream cart, turned storefront is just the pick-me-up needed and it doesn't need to be 90 degrees to crave ice cream. The tropical flavors are unmatched and so unique. It's definitely an authentic Trinidad experience for your palate! I have tried sorrel, soursop and beet ginger so far. But they've got Mauby, charcoal, peanut butter, coconut, grape nut, rum raisin, butter pecan, cookies and cream and Gingerbeer to name a few! Get up and get you some delightfully tropical ice cream. I love this most because the flavors are intense and strong, not muted! Just like my Caribbean background. Ayeeee. Island tingz in Flatbush aka Little Caribbean central. It's the perfect fit for this new ice cream shop! Black-Owned Business!
google avatar

Tsai-Anne J.

Yelp
Henny! A friend recommended this little shop the recently opened and we had to try it. They have many options, a variety of flavours both exotic and traditional and even vegan options. The alcoholic flavours were honestly the best and we returned the following day for some more. The shop was like many ice-cream shops and reminded me of Caribbean ice-cream parlours. The staff was helpful and open to having you try anything out. Clean! Gluten-Free! Vegan!
google avatar

Kay. K.

Yelp
When you get inside you're greeting with a vibe of oh snap am I really on Nostrand ave. The decorations is straight out of a Trinidad in point 14 the colors baby!... the tiles, the plants, and the art you can tell Dwayne and his Dad love the beaches from their island cause the store represents their culture Trinidadian vibe all around! Now the vanilla cake, strawberry cake, red velvet and cinnamon cake was all so moist, soft and delicious and not too sweet but very good and yes I try them all! The ice cream I would say my favorites are guava and avocado! Dwayne customer service made everything even better he was pleasantly nice
google avatar

Lorianne W.

Yelp
Do you guys remember taste of tropics on Utica and Avenue D? Well this place gives me that vibe. Amazing flavors and such cool and knowledgeable staff. The owners make the ice cream fresh daily and if you go late in the day there's a chance that what you want will be sold out. So good. Their shakes are out of this world.
google avatar

Yelp
Mr. P's Ice Cream shop is a great addition to the shops along Nostrand Ave in the heart of Brooklyn. The young man that greeted me, Dwayne was so sweet and promised that he will have the Grapenut ice cream for me on my next visit. I had the Cherry Coconut flavor and it was so refreshing and delicious. The consistency is more of a sorbet than your typical creamy texture. They have a variety of flavors that represents our Caribbean culture as well as a variety of cakes. Stop in and taste the flavors. Enjoy! Follow me @yelpelite_bkchick

Ella E.

Yelp
We got the cookies & cream and coconut, ginger flavors and they are both so good! Cute little shop.

Yelp
I have a bad habit of openly asking folks what they would highly recommend at their food spot. I truly want to know the secret menu items, the most popular item, the most bang for your buck, the don't leave here without tasting this. I honestly have come to expect it. Anyway on a hot Friday afternoon waiting for my sister I decided to do a mini food crawl. I started on Parkside and walked like 4 blocks to the closest IceCream spot which was this. I love IceCream and it was hot. I also love to support a black owned establishment like honey I'm there! As I walked in I immediately noticed that they make CAKE! My eyes lit up like Christmas lights. I greeted the young woman behind the counter and started devouring everything with my eyes and my camera. They had some interesting favors so I asked what would she recommend. She said that she couldn't because we had different palettes. She also said that she had a food allergy to nuts which I could totally understand because I have an avocado allergy. She then went to tend to a cake in the oven and suddenly started taking the next persons order. I was a bit pressed but patient and then saw a young man painting a mural inside. It was dope. I realized that she was working alone and felt rushed. I didn't like that to much. I ordered the butter pecan IceCream and a slice of lemon cake. I wonder if they sell cake with IceCream on top. I don't remember there being any place to sit but then again I felt rushed so I had to hurry and take my order and go. The IceCream-I didn't feel like it was ready. Like it wasn't creamy like icecream or gelato, but I did like the idea that the pecans were almost like a dust. But i didn't like the texture. Gritty. I did taste a sample first. I should've gotten a smaller size but the small size was like 2oz for $3 I believe. The cake was lemon cake. Can't go wrong there. It's hard to find parking in the area. The store was clean. 3/5 not sure if I would come back but I would recommend if your in the area.

Yelp
- this rum raisin shake is hittin right now It's kinda expensive at $12, but i don't feel the loss - I gotta go back and try the Hennessy, baileys, Guinness flavors - the cakes looked good - charcoal was good, you should at least sample They are generous with the samples

Shirley H.

Yelp
Thank you Mr. P for such a cool evening treat on a hot summer day. I was able to sample coconut ginger which was really good, and mauby which was sweet then slightly bitter. I went with guava since I love guava. There are so much island flavor to chose from. They also make cakes in-house. The young man helps his dad runs the shop and he is super friendly. The only downside is parking, not much around.
google avatar

Notoya S.

Yelp
- Black, West Indian owed right in the heart of Little Caribbean . Support it !!! Organic, natural ice cream and multiple flavors . The staff was welcoming and kind. We will return to keep supporting this business .

Maria A.

Yelp
I unfortunately am weird and don't like sweet things or tropical things, and that was everything here, I wouldn't personally return but I would encourage everyone to go! The staff was super nice and was excited to sample stuff, they had so many fun flavors inspired by Caribbean flavors like Charcol, Soursop and others! You also get a discount for being a first timer, you can definitely tell the ice cream is homemade too, very fun visit, just not my palate!

Yelp
Ever since I came here for the Elite Week Event, I have been thinking about Mr. P's ice cream. I decided to stop by and his son, Dwayne, was there. I knew I wanted a milkshake--you are allowed to add up to two flavors in the milkshake. I got the grape nut and coconut--it was delicious. He used Planet Oat milk and he told me that the grape nut is made with evaporated milk (or in the Caribbean, we would say can milk) and sweetened condensed milk. He also said that those milks have low lactose. I didn't know that--you do learn something new every day! I like the establishment--a lot of natural light. They also have some stools if you want to sit and enjoy your ice cream treat. I asked if the hours would change once the temperature drops. He said that he wasn't sure. Personally, I eat ice cream any time of the year so I hope they keep their hours. The small size milkshake was $8 and the larger size was $12. You can even get a pint to go. I think I might get a pint of grape nut. YUM. Make sure to get their frequency card--I know I did. I definitely recommend Mr. P's Ice Cream.

Yelp
A cute little ice cream shop run by a father and his son. I got to sample a few flavors, soursop and coconut ginger. Ultimately, I end up choosing a scoop of coconut ginger, because I love ginger and it's quite refreshing on a hot day. The ice cream texture is more of a grainy texture rather than creamy, but it's not bad considering they're vegan and homemade ice cream.

Yelp
Run don't walk!!!! Wish I could give more stars!! I loved every minute of this experience. I was on my way to another ice cream shop at Avenue D and saw the sign on the ice cream sign. I parked the car and went in just to try a flavor and see what's going on. I was blown away by every. flavor,. I. tried. From the dairy free to the eccentric flavor charcoal. What an experience. I spent a lot getting small containers of everything so I can share with family. I really loved the coconut ginger... But I loved the sorrel ginger too. I loved the plain coconut. I loved the grape nut. Every flavor is worth a try. I'm going back there in 2 days. See you there.

Blake W.

Yelp
Ice cream was amazing! 10/10 would recommend. Staff was friendly and generous with samples as well

Yelp
Newly opened and it's all handmade ice cream with very special types. I had the best service from the owner.

Thomas P.

Yelp
Great Natural Ice Cream shop with several vegan options. I highly recommend this establishment.

Sydeika P.

Yelp
Excellent customer service and I loved the coconut ice cream. I would definitely take a trip back just for the ice cream. I hope they come to Philadelphia soon. Thank you Mr Ps

Kim D J.

Yelp
Great service. Great flavors! I tasted beet/ginger, soursop and mauby. Soooo good! It was hard to decide but ended up with beet/ginger and soursop. The consistency was a bit different than the usual ice cream (almost like an icee) yet it was very smooth and the flavors are rich. If you love tropical fruit flavors you MUST try their ice cream. There are vegan offerings made with coconut or oat milk. This will be my regular dessert stop!
google avatar

Alexis C.

Yelp
A very lovely local ice cream shop ever this is homemade. A very unique menu which also includes vegan options. I not a big ice person but I go there for their beet & ginger shots.

Danielle E. C.

Yelp
Local homemade ice cream shop in Lil Caribbean. Father & son business. The coconut ginger ice cream tastes like you're biting into a gizada (Jamaican dessert). Paired that with great nut ice cream and it was a perfect match. I will def return.

C S.

Yelp
Very friendly, even better ice cream lol. So yummy! I will be back! I tried grape nut this time, I can't wait to try all of the other flavors.

omg! The best homemade ice cream I've ever had. The peanut is my favorite hands down! The owners are very nice & let me try different flavors. I'm visiting from miami wish I could take the whole store with me. Must try!!
