**WATCH OUT** PRICES INCREASED 25%!!! My food wasn't made right either and when I asked about the price increase, the owner picked up my Togo bag and said "see... it's heavy" Really??? The food isn't worth the neighborhood convenience or price increase in my view.

I cannot be objective about Mr. Salsa. I’ve been coming here for 20 years, and the tacos are as awesome now as they ever were. It’s small, probably more perfect for take out, but if you stay at one of the few tables they will make you feel welcome!!

I went here last night for dinner. My friend Andrew told me about this little gem on the corner of Broadway and Montrose. They have a few tables here for dining in. It was not crowded and there was no wait. They have a number of items on the menu, I will post picture of the latest menu soon. I got the Chiles Rellenos, and it was great! last time we went to a Mexican place(Mayan Place Mexican Cuisine in Lincoln park), my friend got this chiles rellenos and i will tell you, both looked very different for each other. What I learned was chiles rellenos can be different from one place to another, basically its not like a standard hamburger. The one i got was yum! it was oily and cheesy, and it tasted delicious. included in the plate- tortillas, guac, salad, rice, and beans were great too! I felt the service was quick, our food was on our table within 5 minutes of ordering. Chips and Salsa they provided us were complimentary, and the chips was crisp and warm, looks like they fried it back in the kitchen! I would certainly recommend going to this family owned place if you are up for trying some Mexican food.

True definition of mom and pa place. The food is amazing and feels just like home. Love visiting and def recommend it.

Very authentic Mexican spot. I did takeout and got the beef burrito and it was excellent! It was made after I ordered, so tasted fresh. I went in the evening, so the cashier/cook were the same person (perhaps the owner too?) - but he was SO nice! The environment felt very "homey."

Solid Mexican food. Eaten here a couple times now - it’s a small spot and everything is made fresh to order (including the guac) so takes awhile to prepare but worth it. The steak has good flavor but a little gristly, the chicken was surprisingly tasty and tender. Salsas had a good amount of heat and great flavor, worked well on everything. The guacamole was great. Veggie burrito was almost a little sweet, great for kids who don’t want a quesadilla. Prices and availability have been updated during the pandemic thanks to supply chain issues, still pretty reasonable in my opinion.

Absolutely delicious authentic tacos and other food! Great staff and they go above and beyond. Ordered ahead for a party and they delivered on time and food was hot and fresh. Salsas are super tasty too.

Authentic Mexican Restaurant for sure... the burrito was small but with flavor. Def. A place I will go back for just work lunch but not take anyone on a date lol.

Mr. Salsa is my go to place to take out tacos. The steak, el pastor and shrimp are the best tacos. The mini quesadillas are amazing too! The people who work at Mr. Salsa are extremely nice and offer advice on what to order as well. The store is small but they do have a few tables to sit and eat.

Great little gem! If you are looking for solid Mexican food, prepared fresh- this is your place. We got a couple of their small quesadillas and chimichangas (if you order ala carte, the chimis are smaller than the dinner menu size). I had the burrito suiza, which was so large I couldn't finish. We also got the chips and guacamole. The guac is made fresh when you order- can compete with any "fancy" restaurant any day- and would beat it, hands down! Mainly set up for to-go business. There are a couple tables, though, if you need to dine in.

my food was tasty, authentic and very affordable. I ordered the carne asada taco platter but requested to remove extra toppings and just get onions and cilantro.

The food is raw and the place is very small and no bathroom. They have 2 to 3 tables and service is very slow.

Muscle past the looks of the place and get some great food! If I was a local, those that work there and I would be on a first name basis and know how the kids are doing. We went nice and hungry after a day moving. I got tacos, the others had burritos. The burritos were big. The preparation of the dishes have been Americanized, but the ingredients are fresh and the prep is really well done and tasty. Staff was all business but attentive.

I regularly order an Al pastor burritos to go after a long day at work. Their late hours are perfect to satisfy my grumbling stomach fully every time. I come so often that the chef and cashier usually recognize and welcome me warmly every time. It's a great local go to spot if you're ever craving some Mexican food late at night!

Picked up a couple burritos and some guac a few nights ago from Mr. Salsa. The burritos were great, and a pretty good portion. The guac was better than I expected. We also ordered the nachos - for anyone out there who loves cheese sauce, know that these nachos only have shredded on them. I'd be willing to give the tacos a try next time!

Good place for a quick taco. However, you'll go home reeking of grease and oil. Must not be well ventilated in the kitchen.

Mr. Salsa is a quaint Mexican joint in Uptown. In my 25 years in Chicago, no other restaurant I've frequented has delivered on freshness, consistency, friendliness and price. It's become my go-to with my brother, or when I need something quick. I typically get the vegetarian burrito, which is chock-full of avocado, beans, and other healthy veg, or the chiles rellenos, which are a delicious treat, with a really deep, cheesy flavor. Maybe the best chiles rellenos I've had around here. This is a family run joint. I've seen the same guy behind the counter every day I've been here. I think he probably works close to 365 days/year and yet he's invariably friendly, humble and quick. I really hope more people in the neighborhood give Mr. Salsa a try--you won't be disappointed.

Make sure to order chips and guacamole with whatever else you order. Tacos here are amazing and the ingredients are definitely fresh. I've had a few burritos from here as well and they're great if you're looking for something to really fill you up. Be sure to try the lengua (beef tongue) taco or burrito!! The staff at Mr. Salsa is always fun to interact with; they seem to be in a great mood most of the time. Make sure to call ahead about the chips and guacamole because they make everything fresh!

Absolutely love the sopes they are well made. The horchata was also really tasty. The nachoes were really good too so sad im too far to go often.

This is an excellent taqueria that has been overlooked since they do not have a social media or delivery app presence. The menu is fairly standard, but everything is made well, and despite crazy inflation they've managed to keep their prices down. To the point where I am not sure how they could be making money. Their guacamole and salsas are top tier, and everything has always tasted very fresh. They are much better than some other taquerias on the north side who play the online game much better than they do, and it's a shame that matters so much for visibility these days over just serving very good food at a very good price.

Be it ever so humble looking, there's no place quite like Mr Salsa. Very small, not much to look at space. Excellent food, good prices. A takeout staple for our neighborhood.

Below average burrito at best, and the place is not suited for dining in. There are so many better choices in the area. I will always choose El Asadero!

I am really surprised at how good this place is!! I've thought about going to get tacos for a while but never ended up doing it. What missed opportunities I've wasted!!! I got a carne asada taco and a chicken quesadilla and both were fantastic. I think it's really in the meats- they were both really flavorful, juicy, and well cooked. I also like their salsa a lot. It's excellent. For around $5 I got a great dinner. Minus one star because the guy working was pretty surly and not very friendly. Oh well, I'll definitely be back.

We had Tacos and Enchiladas it was very fresh and clean. Very tasty. Owners are very nice. We really enjoyed our food.

Really solid tacos and burritos in a nice setting and for a good price. Tried asada and polly burritos, asada and cabeza de res tacos, and their plain nachos. Nachos could have been a little more put together, but everything was delicious and fresh. Very friendly guy at the counter, really comfortable space, looking forward to eating here often.

Love this place. Food is so good and to be honest my favorite place to eat if I have been drinking or the morning after. They are open late but COVID has affected hours. When you order just be super clear what you want.

Is not actually open until 1am! Closes early around 'midnight. Showed up and the place was closed. Can't say if the food is good.

I originally found Mr. Salsa when I was hosting one of my unofficial Yelp events. I'd never heard of it before then and wanted to check it out with my fellow Yelpers. Since then I've been once more. The inside of Mr. Salsa reminds me of any neighborhood restaurant that has a decent client base so they don't have to invest in the inside decor. Mr. Salsa is dimly lit with roughly four to five tables to accommodate people that decide to eat in. Based off the Yelp reviews that brought me to Mr. Salsa's I was expecting an obnoxiously large burrito but it wasn't big haha. For someone that loves food that was disappointing. I've gotten during my two visits I've gotten the the carne asada and the chicken fajita burrito. I enjoyed the carne asada, the meat wasn't too dry or chewy. The chicken fajita was absolutely terrible. It was so watery to the point of the burrito juice started immediately leaking out of the aluminium foil and paper bag onto my light colored jeans as I walked home. The chicken fajita burrito was flavorless so not worth the awkward walk home from Mr. Salsa. I honestly only go to Mr. Salsa when someone else who hasn't tried it wants to go.

Honestly my favorite taco place in the city. Remarkably consistent for the more than 10 years I've been going there. My go to order is an Al Pastor Taco Dinner, cilantro and onion and a tamal on the side. The best!

Solid Mexican food in a sea of Asian top notch restaurants. Neighborhood staple, great prices and tacos throughout the years.

I'm glad I finally wandered in to check this place out. The guy behind the counter was super friendly and fired off our orders seemingly before we were able to place them. I got a vegetarian burrito, some chips and guac. Everything was great and I think that they made the guac right there on the spot. The burrito was giant, with the shell toasted to perfection. Good amount of beans, guac, and veggies in the burrito as well. Place is clean and cozy. I was there during the day, and with all the construction going on in the area it seems that a lot of CTA employees and other city workers are fans of the spot. Word on the street is that you can get your food here and take it next door to the Driftwood if you want some beer with your Mexican food. Highly recommended. Check it out if you are in the neighborhood.

Just around the corner from the Wilson Yards Target. A quaint little taqueria that has a diverse menu with some surprises. One of those is burritos and tacos made with tongue (lengue). I'll stick with beef. Friendly folks.

In late October / early November 2020: While the service was prompt and courteous, I was initially surprised by their allowance for customers without masks in the middle of a pandemic. Fortunately, their staff were all wearing masks. Second, the vegetarian tacos I ordered lacked any kind of flavoring, including salt. I was really hoping to get something yummy from a local place, but unfortunately, I would say Taco Bell's vegetarian options beat them out. I hope they'll consider adding seasoning (including cilantro) to their food.

Excelente! I love the pastor tacos...great service, great food! I've had lots of tacos in Chicago and this is in the top 3, easily.

I come here for my coworkers as well as my family. I love there tacos, guacamole and chips with a mexican coke. Very frienly staff. The gentleman that answers the phone is always full of energy. I wish i can borrow some. lol

After eating here for most of my life I can't say anything other than high respect and admiration for the chefs that have worked here since day one. being able to make quality authentic Mexican food damn near perfect every single time I order is something to be highly commended. the gordita always being able to fit that soft, crunchy, medium. The selection of meat, and occasional change of pace during lent, where they try out more fish based dishes it's safe to say that these chef know makes good food. That being the ingredients that make that food and cooking with the attitude of cooking for a friend or family member. Having known them for almost all my life it's safe to say they truly love what they do and that's what makes a place authentic. More than the dishes, more than the people that make the dishes, it's the soul that they have. I recommend a majority of the menu as I have not tried the rest of the menu.

We were doing a food hop in Chicago over the weekend and ended our night here. Happily, I might add! We LOVE this place. We loved it when we lived nearby, and still drop by quite often when we visit the city. I'm giving it 5 stars right now b/c where I live (in Wisconsin) and many other places I've lived and eaten (NYC, other restaus in Chicago) just don't do it like Mr Salsa does! The beans were not as on point as normal, but the rice was perfectly flavored, as was the small amount of guac that came with my amazingly delicious chili rellenos :) My husband had chicken-filled quesadillas which have, I'm quite certain, never met their match. The fact we've seen the young kids grow up is a testament to this place as well. Not only is their food (and did I mention salsa? no? still darn good!!) amazing, the kids are growing up to be very kind and intelligent human beings. I'm so happy about that :) We love you, Mr Salsa! You do everything so well, with love, and it shows :)

Would've never known this place existed if it wasn't for yelp. And I've lived in Uptown for years. The place is ok. Your typical family owned Mexican place. Their food was a good portion and pricing was fair. They did have the food out at lightning speed though. Meaning they had pre-made tamales in the kitchen. So you can choose between fresh food or fast service, I guess. Yay! Choices!

Mr salsa restaurant has good tasty tacos, but the only issue, if you want to view it as an issue, is that the food is mostly to go. This is a very small space and not many seating is available. Come enjoy some tasty tacos and if you want to come and eat here... well, bring some XX beers and make the experience better. I asked the staff about bringing alcohol and they said it was ok. Btw the staff is very friendly and talkative.

This place is legit. I wish I lived closer because these are some the best tacos I've had in Chicago.

My first experience here was great and I was impressed. But last night I got takeout and was sorely disappointed. They got my order wrong (gave me two steak dinner but one was supposed to be shrimp) and the total was almost $35. They fixed their mistake but forgot the tortillas. And the food honestly wasn't worth what it cost because the portion was so pitifully small. I couldn't even enjoy it because I was so turned off by the ordeal. Probably won't be going here again.

I have been going to this burrito house for decades,a while back ago I went and order a steak burrito I was so hungry ready to eat,when I ate the burrito it had strings of hair in it due to the woman making it not wearing a hair net,and on top of that her daughter has been working the cash register since she was nine years old,probably younger then that,and her lil brother sit at the table from the time he get out of school till the time they close,I ask her if she could put on a hair net to protect the food she got mad and ignored me saying is you gone order or not

It's 230am, and the bowling alley lights just came on...What do YOU do? Well, I can tell you what I do. I pile myself +3 into a cab, and head STRAIGHT for Mr. Salsa for some life saving, liver rejuvenating burritos. I could've SWORN they were open 24 hours, but alas this is not the case. As we rolled up to the door, they had all the tables/chairs up, and were moppin' away any last traces of Mexican food. OH NO. (heart drops) I poked my head in (door still unlocked) and asked what time they had closed (about 7 minutes prior). I must've looked so pathetic (seriously), because all of a sudden he started moving stools and throwing things on the grill. My heart soars for Mr. Salsa! And not a grimace or grumble in sight, they were joking around and having fun, talking to us, all in good spirits. This was BEFORE i tipped them, too. So my pals and I belly up to the Mexibar, drink some Grape crush, indulge in Dinner, pt2 a la carne asada and chicken burritos, munch on chips and save ourselves a round of massive el hangovers. I love these guys. Forever. Cash only. Don't forget, they won't budge on that one, I'm afraid.

Even by Chicago standards, this is fantastic Mexican food. The decor is not amazing but the price can't be beat. Even better for takeout. Lovely people run the place.

Doesn't look like much when you walk by, but the food is amazing. My boyfriend and I popped in for lunch today. Everything is made to order - even the chips & salsa! My boyfriend got a chicken burrito that was such a gracious portion. I ordered the carne asada dinner that came with rice and refried beans. All of it was delicious!!! We'll definitely be stopping her again.

Horrible. I hate that this is my local Mexican joint. Portions are tiny. Carne asada fried to crunchy crisps most time. Without hot sauce, the tacos lack any defined flavor. And once again they are microscopic but charge 2.75??? Foh. That's not even the worst part. The owner solidifies my hatred for this place. I refuse to patronize that hole in the wall ever again because of his unprofessional and lackadaisical attitude and work ethic. The owner brings his drunk friends ( they'll be four or five deep on the weekends) into the open kitchen with him while he takes forever to prepare customers Foods. His friends literally are just sitting and standing drinking Dos Equis, laughing it up, bring drunk and having a great little party all around our food. They don't have any type of protective kitchen attire on. Not to mention that these men are a huge distraction to the cook. And maybe I would wait and deal with this foolishness if the owner shelled out grade A tacos, but they're tiny gross and half assed with the flavor. Couldn't pay to go back there

Decent tacos for the price. Don't make a special trip, but not a bad option if you're in the area. Guacamole is pretty good.

Tacos were okay. Tomatoes were missing in all of them. Cook was extremely rude; He took forever to take my order even though I was the only one there at the time. He was also rude and rowdy to a patron over the phone, which after hanging up proceeded to call them "stupid."

Best light and airy vegetarian burrito I have eaten, usually burritos are heavy and dense. This is still fulfilling. The first time I ate one of these was during a parade. We were in a float and the sun was baking us. Ours hadn't left yet so my husband jumped off the bus and ran in there. We were driving by and it was time for the kid to eat so we stopped in. Cheese, flour tortilla for her. Simple. Crispy. Good. As for the burrito, everything I remembered about it was true. Mmm. Mmm. Mmm. Guacamole was a little basic, yet very, very freshly made. If it had heat, like with jalapeno, the kid couldn't have eaten it. So, thumbs up for everyone. Mild.

For me, Mr. Salsa is a cheap place to get a nice steak burrito. I just learned about this not so long ago. Their menu is quite satisfactory. They have a tiny space with very limited seats; that's why, I would certainly do a carry-out if grabbing a bite from here springs to mind. The male staff is a cheerful person who could prepare the order in a jiffy. No high expectations, plain and simple!

If you walk with your head down, staring at your shoes, you might miss this place. Right off of the North Broadway Street and West Montrose Avenue intersection, Mr. Salsa is a small taqueria with counter service and a few tables to dine-in. When I walked in, I heard the Latino music playing and was greeted with a smile- I had a feeling I was going to completely fulfill my craving for Mexican food here. I ordered the chicken fajita burrito with chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and I was given two kinds of salsa- salsa verde and salsa roja. They both were full of flavor, although I favored the salsa verde. The salsa roja was fantastic as well, but anti-spicy waters beware... this one packs on the heat! My burrito came out quickly and was cooked to crispy perfection. I smothered it in both salsas, and thoroughly enjoyed each bite. The crunch was a great contrast from the warm, gooey inside filled with cheese, rice, beans, peppers, onions, sour cream, chicken, and hot sauce. I'd suggest anyone in the area, with a craving for some Mexican, to check this place out for a quick, but flavorful, bite to eat!

One of my go to places for pick up. The steak burrito is my jam, but everything is delicious. It is a small place, but it is clean. I am a repeat customer fo life or as long as I live in Chicago. I recommend Mr. Salsa and you too will be happy.

This mom and pop place used to be pretty decent pre pandemic, but now like a lot of other restaurants, they have drastically raised their prices for the same, exact product. The same burrito in size, quantity, and ingredients went from $7.25 to $8.00. Tacos are now over $3. The couple that owns this place used to be a lot more hospitable and consistent in their food, but now they're pretty slack with everything - the food is quite mediocre for the prices that they are charging. What's worst - the last time I came here, the husband deliberately overcharged me for the burrito by $.50 and thought I wouldn't notice. Never again - completely not worth it.

I had a sudden craving for tacos de pastor and this place came up as a place for good tacos de pastor. Since I was in the area, I decided to stop by. The women working there were very friendly and on the customer service factor alone, I was very pleased. However, the tacos were just o.k. Maybe its an unfair comparison to compare them to the tacos I have when I visit Mexico, but there was just something missing in the seasoning of the meat itself. The pastor was a bit rough and not very flavorful. I didn't try any of their other dishes so maybe those are superior to the tacos but in all honesty, can't say the tacos were delicious. The salsa was also at the ok level, not bad but definitely not where you are left wanting for more.
