First visit to this place.Glad we stepped in, we had a plant base vegetarian burger and Chicken sandwich wich came along with fries and barbeque sauce.Amazing taste ,juicy and decent portion. Ambience was good, all antique wood setup, great location if you are lucky with parking at waterfront. My server doing all the job ,bartending and food running, he was quick and can tell he is a pro. So kudus to service

Great atmosphere and friendly bar service. The food was good and the beer was cold. There was a roach on the bar that the bartender didn't seem to care much about, but it is on old building along the water. Are your shots up to date?

Was out exploring Georgetown for the day and stumbled upon Mr. Smith's of Georgetown because I was starving. The establishment has a homie feel to it and guests can either dine inside, enjoy the weather outside, or even eat upstairs. I read somewhere that on certain days they have someone playing the piano while guests dine/watch/listen. Service was pretty decent. I was a bit confused though because while I did have a server who took my drink and food orders, the host (I believe) was the one to give/collect my bill/tip... Not too sure if there's tip pool that gets divided at the end of the shift, but it threw me off a bit. Not a big deal though because the host was very kind and polite and I really appreciated that. Now on to the food/drinks. I really wanted to get a burger but I decided to try out the Cuban sandwich with fries. I'm glad I did because the sandwich was delicious. Just the right toasty outside and hot melty cheese and moist flavorful pulled pork and ham on the inside. The fries were a nice compliment as well. I did try out a happy hour margarita and a pecan pie for dessert but they both played second fiddle to the Cuban. If I visit Georgetown again, I'll make sure to come back for that sandwich alone.

The atmosphere is super friendly, but unfortunately, the service was not good - our server was a bit aggressive. The food was okay, nothing too special. But I absolutely adored the piano playing and the overall vibe of the place.

If you're in Washington DC you MUST visit this bar! Great bar and attentive staff who know what they're doing! We had such a brilliant evening on arriving in the US. Karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays and we got things moving! Sat at bar and came back next day for a couple of beers. This needs to be on everyone's list for Washington bars.

Google
My friend and I went here on graduation weekend after waiting over a half hour between ordering our drinks and not receiving them at Kafe Leopold. Mr. Smith's was a welcome change of pace. Great service, great food, and drinks! We ordered the Hoya Burger and the Fish and Chips and enjoyed our food- the atmosphere was also way better than Kafe Leopold! It was the perfect spot for dinner!

Google
A nice racist bunch here. Do not patronize this dust bowl. The staff is horrible. They are 100% racist and rude. Don't get me started on the slop they call food. The atmosphere gives 1908 musty basement vibes. Open a damn window. It's a shame because the location could be used for something much better.

Google
Mr Smiths has great interior and old world tavern feel to it with plenty of TVs for watching sports. The service here was great and very attentive. The menu had plenty of options for all ages. I ordered the steak and cheese with fries. The flavor on the sandwich was really good and the cheese was nice and melted. The fries were really well done and came out nice and hot. I had wished the roll on the sandwich was a bit more sturdy. All in all it was a great experience in Georgetown and Mr Smiths was part of that.

Yelp
I popped in here on a very hot Saturday around 6pm and chilled at the bar to wait on a friend. The bartender informed that they offer happy hour all day and once I saw that margaritas were $6.50/ea, I was hooked! This deal is almost unheard of in D.C.. I definitely ordered 3 margs and they were all yummy. The margarita options were passionfruit, strawberry, traditional lime, and spicy jalapeño. Later into the night it started to get crowded by the bar and people started to do karaoke on the piano. I will definitely come back and recommend this spot to others.

Yelp
Walking into Mr. Smith's feels like walking into a tavern. It's got an old timey feel to it. We came here for a private event. I was very impressed with the food. In particular, there was a delicious Cobb salad. The chicken tenders were also great! Some of the other food an appetizers were just fine. We had some beer, and the service at the bar was good! I would come back here again either pre or post movies.

Christine D.

Yelp
I came here as one of the stops on the Guide to Imbibe DC passport. I found the service to be incredibly rude. Unfortunately, the drinks weren't great either. My Negroni was not well-balanced at all. I would not return.

Alesia S.

Yelp
Stopped by to use my Guide to Imbibe after being in the area to visit the local theater. Grabbed a seat at the bar since I was solo. Ended up getting the Georgetown Burger, which was great. Also had the Passion-Tini and the espresso martini. Both were really good. The service was good, even though the bar was pretty busy. Would definitely drop back in if in the area.

Colette H.

Yelp
This place was okay. I was with friends and we stopped by this restaurant for dinner. This place was recommended to us, but it wasn't the best. The live piano music completed the experience for us; the pianist gets 3 stars. If you're looking for a place to get a drink, I'd recommend coming here. The food ie steak, burger, salad wasn't the best, and the food wasn't that fresh. I'd come back for the drinks, location and piano music though!

Michael M.

Yelp
Delicious food great drinks for $6 happy hour!!! The service by our waiter Rabi was quick and efficient

Tiffany P.

Yelp
We were waiting on our movie to start at the AMC and wanted somewhere with a Happy Hour. Husband and I came in and sat at the bar. We had a rum and coke and a tequila and pineapple. The drinks were yummy. They ambiance was cool, reminded me of a hole in a wall type of place with really good food. We ordered the fries, cajun Creole eggroll, and pulled pork slider which were all fresh, hot, and delicious. Definitely would recommend if you're in the area!

Yelp
It's been a truly Shirley Temple-tastic National Shirley Temple Day. As you can tell, this Shirley Temple checks off all the boxes: not one but TWO cherries, a beautiful sprite to grenadine ratio, and enough fizz to jolt me out of my daily post 9 to 5 state of dread. While I thank Mr. Smith for delivering a classic Shirley Temple, ought that be a given on this particular day dedicated to this particular beverage? What elevated this year's National Shirley Temple day from the mere obligatory consumption of a Shirley Temple to a truly Temple-tastic evening were the friends made along the way. Yes, I had the pleasure and privilege of enjoying a satisfying Shirley Temple courtesy of Mr. Smith in the very pleasant company of my dear friend and now number one indulger of my possible over-interest in Shirley Temples, Maria. Maria, despite not liking ANYTHING cherry flavored, celebrated today by ordering a Shirley Temple. A true friend indeed. If Maria wasn't enough, David Bowie also made an appearance this year, as we enjoyed The Labyrinth shortly after. I really enjoyed the film seeing that it had several old loves of mine: old school green screen technology, borderline demonic imagery that targets children, and David Bowie to name a few. The Labyrinth is most certainly an ideal Shirley Temple companion for those of you who are struggling to pick a movie to enjoy your Shirley Temple with. One thing The Labyrinth and the Shirley Temple have in common is that it's about the journey, not the destination. Anyways on that note, whole night was goated. Happy Shirley Temple Day.

Yelp
I came here for happy hour with my friend and i really enjoyed the food, drinks, service amd ambiance. It wasn't too packed and the bartenders and workers KNOW what they are doing. The nachos were excellent but the French I took soup was below average. The price was typical for Georgetown.

Courtney J.

Yelp
Great drink/bar variety and service from bartender. Food was okay - lacked seasoning on the cheesesteak and was disappointed the veggie wrap had 0 components of what it listed on the menu. Was supposed to be cold, but was hot with giant pieces of broccoli in it and just overall not enjoyable but quesadilla appetizer was really good!

Cristy R.

Yelp
Y'all. Just don't. Went here to grab a quick bite and a beer before catching a movie at the AMC next door. Save yourself and your money and just avoid. The ambiance is that of a typical Irish bar. Fine. We ordered the onion rings, the Irish stew, and a Caesar salad. The Irish stew was not edible, and believe me when I tell you I am *not* a picky eater. They brought us a house salad instead of a Caesar. The onion rings were passable. Add 2 Guinnesses and the single worst Manhattan we have ever been served and the total tab was $75 for a complete flop of a meal.

James J.

Yelp
My favorite low key man's bar I've found in DC. Great food, super chill vibe and right by the water in Georgetown...ticks all the boxes for me.

Angela K.

Yelp
The Mr Smiths Famous Burger was very sad. Tasted meh. I don't know what I was thinking to come to a bar for lunch.

Pamela C.

Yelp
Went here with friends for happy hour. Drinks were good and the wings were tasty. I'll be back for sure!

Chiara S.

Yelp
Nice place in Georgetown! We were there on a Sunday during their happy hour time and we got margaritas, beers and fries for 5$ each! The bar tender (unfortunately I didn't catch his name) was very friendly, helpful and fast. He told us the story of CIA agents meeting at this very bar to exchange information (you can read more about it on the menu). I also got the funnel cake and it was pretty good!

Amber H.

Yelp
I walked through the door of Mr Smith's by chance of being in the neighborhood with no plans to stop-on NYE--BEST decision! Service, food, atmosphere, location, Chef and Bartender were the best I've had in months! 10 stars! I am with a party of 3, each of us in love with Mr Smiths. Our server Dereje was wonderful! I highly recommend the Ribs & Bratz, Mexican Burger, and sliders. Create drinks names, beautiful plate presentation and a pianist. Hello!! This place is perfect

Natalie C.

Yelp
Very good food & good portions. Calamari for the appetizer was good with yummy homemade marinara sauce. I got the Georgetown Burger and it was delicious. So big I couldn't finish it. Fries were thin cut.

Simona J.

Yelp
Turned me and my boyfriend away in the rain. We clearly are over 21 and he turned us away because my boyfriend didn't have his wallet. Again, we are 30 and look our age. It was pouring raining and he wouldn't let us stay. And older, tall, white man with an accent. Extremely rude and racist. Will never patron, we'll attempt to patron again.

Harrison C.

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday with a friend from out-of-town. Trying to find parking was somewhat difficult, but the place had a nice atmosphere and $5 drinks, which is really good for DC.

Dennis A.

Yelp
I go way back with Mr Smith's when Mr Hite (sp) was alive. Mr Smith's in Tysons Corner had great homemade onion rings, French onion soup, and everything else. I don't believe they would ever cut corners and serve frozen French fries and onion rings. Alas, quality has gone out the window. I know how Mr Hite gave the new owners the way to finance this operation, but somehow I think that he is turning over in his grave.

Yelp
went here for lunch on my birthday while visiting Georgetown. went I walked in wasn't greeted the service seemed unpleasantly busy. the restaurant was empty but everyone seemed extremely occupied. i ordered the crab cake sandwich and a drink. the sandwich was good but it feel apart could have been cooked a little longer. the drink was amazing passionfruit martini. my phone was about to die the server charged it for me... gold star for saving me that day. I would return maybe for happy hour if I was in town.

Anya B.

Yelp
Came here for some weekend drinks at night and wasn't terribly impressed. Service was pushy, the food didn't taste great, and the drinks were pretty average. The happy hour prices were great, but you do get what you pay for. And the outdoor seating is right next to the road, which makes for a noisy experience. It's not terrible, but not a place I'll be returning to.

B B.

Yelp
I would go back here often if I lived in DC. We had a really good experience and the food was great....burgers, fish and chips, etc. I have never seen anyone do it all before, but our waiter did! From greeting us at the door, to taking and delivering our orders, he did do it all and had a smile on his face the whole time!

Shantal W.

Yelp
Wanted a little bite to eat after kayaking. They had cheap small meals and some drinks for only $5 which is a steal in DC. The server and host were super friendly. Loved the service. The food was just ok at best. They had a lot of $5 options which I loved to see. The coconut shrimp reminded me of something from the Costco frozen section. Tasted good but nothing fancy. The blackened shrimp skewer just tasted like warmed up shrimp with seasoning. The wine was a good selection. I think they were surprised I ordered wine. Couldn't understand what kind he said it was but I was satisfied with it. I'm happy nothing was expensive but not worth going back unless I want to grab a cheap drink. The history behind the location is cool about the double CIA agent.

Yelp
SUBJECT: UNSANITARY / RODENT (MOUSE) ISSUE Today, Tuesday, November 12, 2019, between 5:23 PM and 6:30 PM, my sister and I visited Mr. Smith's of Georgetown. We sat at the bar, and the bartender, Julia, gave us white-rolled silverware. One pair had a strand of hair and I requested another pair. That was the first incident... After I finished eating my burger and fries - and while my sister was halfway done eating hers - she spotted a MOUSE... I didn't believe her and immediately looked in her direction and asked her, "Where??" She pointed in the direction of a set of glasses (turned down next to the cash register - the side closest to the window) and I saw the mouse ON THE BAR...CRAWLING...AROUND AND BETWEEN THE GLASSES. (As most people know, when you see one mouse or one roach, that usually means, like Legion, there are many...) I immediately got up, flagged and called for the bartender. She came over and started looking for the mouse but could not find it. She made a few comments but the one comment that stood out was "Welcome to DC." I understand she was trying to add levity to the situation but that was inappropriate. I asked for the manager, he came over and we explained the situation. I told him I was not comfortable paying for the meal and he insensitively replied, "Well you ate all the food didn't you," and my response was something like, "Before we saw a mouse." He said he would remove the drinks but the "food is already happy hour prices," in a hostile manner. I thought to argue with him and retort, "There's no telling what goes on in the kitchen, which could be even worse," but I agreed to pay for the food since I ate it...and I already knew what I planned to do... At any rate, the manager's response to the entire situation was untactful, unprofessional, and in my opinion, the offer was unreasonable for two patrons who spotted a rodent on the bar and hair on rolled silverware. Regardless of them being in business for ~53 years (as it was stated in a response to a previous reviewer), there is no excuse for the manager's poor customer service. In this situation, "poor" can be substituted with "lack of". He was also very rude and condescending. Obviously, I do not recommend visiting this establishment for several reasons.

Courtney W.

Yelp
This is such a great neighborhood bar that has withstood the test of time. I think this place has been around for a few decades, and has some pretty cool spy history you can read on their menus. Definitely pony up for some great happy hour deals or a solid meal- you won't be disappointed. Their live piano man music starts daily at 9p!

Dan M.

Yelp
I had such low expectations, but I was so impressed. It's a very low key, unassuming old school bar in a part of town filled mostly with generic places. But oh man do they nail the execution with nice people, stellar drinks, and unbeatable prices. Everyday but Saturday they have early happy hour AND late night happy hour after 10. For just $5.50 I had one of the best gin martinis I have had in DC on par with a martini I have paid $14 elsewhere. After two I was floating in heaven. My wife had the sangria, which tasted a little coconutty, but despite being a sangria purist, she still loved it. Sangria is also $5.50 on happy hour. I have walked by this place for years but now will be back. Pro tip: get a $4 falafel bowl from Falafel Inc up the street and enjoy it as the sun sets along the waterfront. Then come here. For just $9.50 you get a great meal and drink for super cheap.

Lauren G.

Yelp
Honestly this spot was forgettable. There are way better places to grab a drink and food at in this area. The outdoor spot we sat at was sticky and the décor was super old school. Although the food came out quickly nothing about it was special.

Kimberly W.

Yelp
This was a last minute choice, visiting family in DC decided to go to Georgetown for dinner. Mr. Smith's was a scene we thought we could have wings, they were delicious and get them crispy!! Had the special, pork ribeye, it was great!! Tender and hot. Lots and lots if potatoes! Other people in party had fajitas, the flavor was good and lots of meat to vegetable ratio! Would recommend.

Ronit M.

Yelp
Nope. I came here with a large group. About 24 of us. It's hard to find something close by that can accommodate everyone. So, that's why they get 1 star. The food is good if you get lucky with fresh ingredients. I ordered the tortilla salad with lemon wedges in lieu of dressing. The salad came and the veggies looked lacking in color. The tomatoes were spoiled. The black beans tasted like black olives and diapers. The corn was sour. The only edible parts were the fried crisps and lettuce. The celery was decent, so I ate that too. The lemon wedges were forgotten and I reminded the waiter when he came around again midway through everyone's meals. The waiter was a nice guy and did his best to accommodate everyone. It can be tough with a large group, especially when after starting to take orders, you offer to divvy the bill into groups of 4 persons, and accidentally put other orders on another group's tab. The ambiance is dark and woody. Very pub like. A cute sign for the bathroom. We were seated on the 2nd floor. Pew-like benches on one side and wooden seats on the other. Bring a pillow or some other soft item to sit on. Hard to sit there for long. I ended up barely eating anything and tossed out 85% of my plate. My boo had the chicken al vino. He said it was good except that the underside of his chicken was burnt and he could taste it. Yuck! The cornbread was corny and seriously dry. I'd recommend cinnamon and butter or honey and butter to go along with the cornbread. Everyone who ordered the fish tacos and chili seemed happy. Iced tea was also a big hit. My placemat was dirty when I sat down. It had brown mush. A nice feature they have is the piano bar. At 10pm a pianist began to play along with a saxophonist. It wasn't overly loud either. Happy eats!

Amanda U.

Yelp
Descent food. Husband loved it and recommended the brunch burger. Nothing particularly great regards to service.

Jimmy L.

Yelp
Been to this restaurant a couple of times. Located close by to the Georgetown waterfront area, this bar/pub place offers daily specials for lunch during the work week. There usually is a promotion where diners will get a card stamped to get a free meal after earning c amount of stamps. Today, my friends, who I ate with, did not get their stamps. The food is decent and priced fairly. Service is okay. The pub has an historic feel to it. Overall, a decent place to eat.

Rachel C.

Yelp
This was probably the most mediocre food I've had since living in dc and that includes my terrible cooking. The ambience is nice for a bar but seriously I would rather eat Trader Joe's frozen pasta. Also they have general tsos chicken tenders and we ordered them because we thought the sauce came on the side. Nope that stuff was all over the chicken who does that WHY

Clay A.

Yelp
This is the former Chadwick's where convicted traitor Aldrich Ames met his Soviet handler for lunch one afternoon in 1985. Over cocktails and burgers Ames handed over a briefcase containing the names of every KGB agent secretly working for US intelligence inside the Soviet Union. Shortly after this meeting, each operative was subsequently arrested and executed. 5 stars for historical significance and a damn good cheeseburger.

Christina R.

Yelp
Stopped in for a beer and some wings. Both are great. Good customer service and fun atmosphere.

Paul W.

Yelp
I've been a normal customer that come in here because I love there food. there food is so delicious but the servers are so rude and they act like they don't want to work here. For the future I will ask for the assistant manager and if hes not here I'm not coming anymore

Gabby P.

Yelp
Decided to finally try this place out with my friend during their happy hour. It wasn't super busy at all and the atmosphere was great. I started with calamari as my appetizer and I decide not to order anything else. The calamari was so disgusting. It was super tough and almost even hard. Unfortunately it was the worst calamari ive ever had. However my friend did order shrimp Alfredo pasta and it was delicious! We did think that the portion could have been bigger for the price.

Leigh D.

Yelp
Realized this is my 25th review of a DC business. This is my first review of a business in Georgetown. To be honest with you, I'm not a fan of Georgetown for a couple of reasons, but when I was new to the area, I hadn't developed a negative opinion yet. I moved to the DC area in October 2011. In November, I went to a Meetup, which was bar hopping, and made a friend. And in December 2011, that new friend & I met at the 'Friendliest Saloon in Town', Mr. Smith's for brunch. I remember that they definitely lived up to their slogan. They were friendly; this is uncharacteristic of the Georgetown neighborhood. The brunch food I got was pretty good. It wasn't anything outstanding, but it was good, and the portion size was big. Overall, I think this a decent option in Georgetown that is reasonably priced, and I would come back here.

C D.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall Spot. Nice size portions and the prices in the area CANNOT be beat!

Jim T.

Yelp
Excellent food and atmosphere. I went with a group of 6 and we received great service.

Shelly G.

Yelp
So my friend and I stumbled upon this place because we were looking for a bar that had an all night happy hour and luckily enough this place had just that on Tuesday. The happy hour drinks here are priced well and taste amazing! I like how it was in the corner of the water area and it wasnt too crowded. We also ordered the Nachitos and we got a HUGE serving for something known as small nachos. Bottom line: Come here on TUESDAYS! and enjoy that all night happy hour in G-town.

Lottie Y.

Yelp
This place has regular American food and Mexican food. There is nothing special about the food and the service was slow.

Nestor R.

Yelp
I love this piano bar! Great place for a Friday or Saturday night !!

Britt D.

Yelp
Drinks were ok. The lady behind the counter came off rude. "I need this, this, and I don't come to your table, you come here to get your stuff"! It wasn't even crowded. Customer service is everything!!

Justis T.

Yelp
Decent bar in lower Georgetown. The bar offers reasonable prices with a decent selection of drinks and food items included on the happy hour menu. The house margaritas were $4, and we greatly enjoyed the chicken tenders and pork sliders. The location and quick service make this an ideal place to grab a low-key bite to eat prior to catching a movie at the AMC Georgetown.

Dani P.

Yelp
You see fancy bars in the immediate waterfront area, but down the block where no one goes is this place. After 4 hours of studying, I badly needed a break. A colleague and I came here fairly late at night, mostly because everywhere was closing down. They'd already closed the kitchen, so we sat at the bar for a drink. They have decent specials from 10pm to close. I had a sangria for $4; it tasted like a sangria you'd buy for $4. The bartender seemed impatient for us to hurry up and finish our drinks and leave. Really though, it was as expected for the only bar open at this time.

Richie S.

Yelp
I spent my share of good nights in Chadwicks around the time the Watergate was little more than a bunch of condominiums and boutiques. After an absence of decades, I took my sweetheart there to show her what it was like to be young and alive as the Hippies morphed into Yuppies. It was still Chadwicks! I only hope Mr. Smith has enough sense not to screw with success. I also have fond memories of those balmy nights I spent sucking down fresh fruit Daiquiris in Mr Smith's courtyard on M, but it was an entirely different vibe than Chadwicks.

Laura O.

Yelp
**We only came here for drinks, so I cannot comment on the food. Yes, this is a hole in the wall type bar - which is what we love. We came here because we are on a pretty tight budget, and this place offered $4 beers of the day. When we were there it was Heineken Light. Not the best, but not the worst. Our service was excellent. We had a few bartenders and all of them were happy to serve us and ensure our beers were full. I'd recommend this if you're looking for something not so uppity.

Una D.

Yelp
i have not been to the new location, which is where chadwicks used to be. i cant say much has changed about mr smiths. the food is pretty average. i believe i got a cuban and it was fine. there was nothing very memorable about it, honestly. price is ok. there is no parking in this part of dc. so its better to walk or cab it. service is ok, no issues. overall- its solid food but nothing great

Honest M.

Yelp
Hey drinks are fairly priced and good Great music often featuring the talented Jesse Rifkin
