We celebrated our family year-end lunch at the highly renowned Mr. Wong.
Let’s start with the positive:
The service was excellent. Throughout the meal — before, during, and after, the staff consistently checked in to ensure everything was satisfactory.
Steamed Dim Sum Platter:
Nothing outstanding, but not bad either. Simply average.
Peking Duck:
The skin was crispy and well-prepared, but the rest of the dish was quite ordinary.
Black Pepper Beef Cubes:
The beef had a slightly grainy texture, likely due to being frozen. However, the flavor was decent.
Steamed Toothfish:
Considering the portion size, quality, and price, it was just okay—nothing special.
King crab fried rice:
It’s with special toping. But just concern ‘King crab’ is a name, really hardly to find.
We also encountered two issues during our visit:
1. Shortly after ordering, we requested to swap one dish. Yet, when the bill arrived, the cancelled item was still included.
2. We ordered a large portion of the fried rice. but were served a small one instead. The server acknowledged the mistake and offered to prepare a new large portion, but we declined as we knew we wouldn’t be able to finish it.
Given that it was the last day of the year and the restaurant was very busy, I can understand that mistakes can happen.
More concerningly, a member of our party experienced mild diarrhea after the meal.
While the service was commendable, the food fell short of expectations. If you prioritize attentive service, Mr. Wong delivers, but the dishes themselves leave much to be desired.
