The 22 Best Restaurants in Ensenada, Mexico | Eater San Diego

"After a walk through the Black Market (Ensenada’s fish market), turn the corner for a delightful lunch of contemporary Baja cuisine paired with local wines, Mexican craft beers, and fine mezcal. The tuna ceviche highlights the kitchen’s regional approach to seafood with quality local fish, citrus, ginger, and soy sauce — one of several Asian condiments used in Baja California cuisine. Enjoy the quiet retreat from the nearby tourist throng as you snack on seafood rice, pescadillas (fish quesadillas), and local mussels steamed in a mix of green chiles, along with one of the tasty white wines sold by the glass." - Bill Esparza

Look no further, grab your seafood at Muelle 3. Everything we ordered tasted fresh and absolutely delicious. The servers were nice, accommodating, and professional. We were stuffed but wished we could eat more. Highly recommended everyone to eat here. Thank you Muelle 3 for the amazing meal!

I had previously tried to go here because it was ranked #1 on TripAdvisor but unfit tú Arely it was closed. I’m glad I couldn’t go that time because I didn’t know that it is HIGHLY recommended to have a reservation. They have limited seating and are usually booked up. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We were a group of 8 so I got to try quite a few dishes. Each one very impressive and unique. They rely on the quality of the fish a lot and it really comes through, they also have some sauces which complement each dish perfectly. The burritos stood out for me specially. Highly recommend this place for good local cuisine.

I’ve visited the place 3 days ago. Definitely one of the best (if not the best) seafood I have tried in Ensenada. Great wine, excellent service and really relaxed atmosphere! Highly recommended!

Best ceviche in town! Get the house ceviche. Super fresh and huge portions. Very inexpensive and worth more than what you pay. Very nice service and friendly staff. Definitely top notch ceviche. Look no further!

Google
An amazing small restaurant. Great atmosphere and wonderful service. The food is outstanding and the selection of wines small but perfect. See the catch of day and the beautiful risotto. Parking it’s just right there. A culinary jewel in Ensenada. The clam chowder was delicious too!

The setting is right in front of the docks and very nice. I can tell this is a super popular place and once we were seated it took about an hour to be served. They were also out of fish which I had ordered but changed to garlic shrimp with pasta. The food was amazing

After a disappointing lunch in Puerto Nuevo, we made our way down to Muelle3. We had no reservations and were blessed the waiter accommodated us outside on the bar. The food was absolutely perfect. The ceviche was fresh and flavorful as was my now favorite dish Arroz Mar. Proof that if you focus on quality and love what you do, a small strait forward menu is success! Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. Upscale, craft done right.

Yelp
We've been to Ensenada plenty of times but somehow never made it to this spot. Until now. Last July, I tried, but of course they were closed the exact week I came. This time, I wasn't taking any chances. I called exactly 10 days out (their max window) to lock in a reservation. We arrived early and were seated right away. Our server was super friendly and honest, too. When he saw us ordering the mixed sashimi and the ceviche, he gently suggested we get a half order instead, since we had a lot of other dishes coming. We agreed... and were shocked by how big the half portion was! Our son said, "I've never seen a restaurant talk us out of ordering more food." Respect. Honest people, great vibes. As for the food: * Mixed sashimi (yellowtail & octopus): 3/5 * Ceviche: 5/5 * Fried calamari: 4/5 * Prawns with pasta: 5/5 * Three fish risotto: 6/5 (still dreaming about it) Drinks included a michelada, margarita, and a couple beers. All that for under $120. Total win. Amazing meal at a chill spot with people who treat you right. Highly recommend and it will be a must stop for our future visit.

Yelp
The best place in Ensenada. I loved their ceviche, seafood pasta, calamari and fish risotto.

Yelp
Been trying to come here on our last few trips but every time it's difficult to get there before they close their hours are limited it seems. But on to the good stuff, we had a cocktail & a beer my husband had the camaron ajo with pasta. I had the fish of the day ( yellowtail) with a side salad and tomatoes & peppers. All very delicious with nice portions. I loved the side salad that had a nice vinaigrette my fish was grilled perfectly. My husband's pasta was equally yummy. Wonderful find! A must if you're in the Ensenada harbor

Yelp
Amazing food. Everything was so delicious. Risotto, yellow tail, steamed clams and mussels. Service is great. My favorite lunch spot when I'm in Ensenada :)

Yelp
Love this quaint spot in Ensenada in the fishing harbor. The food was simple and straightforward. The owner was there and was touching tables to be all was good. Recommend!!

Yelp
Fantástico lugar, no aparenta un gran restaurante pero lo es, de verdad, pequeño pero con una carta de comida de mar realmente excelente y fresca, con un servicio increíble, vengan a comer aquí!!!

Yelp
I discovered Muelle 3, years ago while exploring Ensenada. I've been wanting to go back ever since. 4 years later and the visit didn't disappoint. We went on day two and made a reservation for day three haha. Unlike the pushy, muelles around the corner, muelle 3 is a modern twist on traditional mariscos. Everything is elevated except the price. Definitely check out the risotto and the steamed clams and mussels in white wine. Reservations aren't required, but highly recommended. This was by far our favorite restaurant on our latest Ensenada trip.

Yelp
My favorite go to place in Ensenada along with the family"s other restaurant Boule. If you're a foodie and love fresh seafood, don't pass this up.

Yelp
Attention Valle de Guadalupe travelers. We visited VDG recently and spoke w new friends who live near Las Playas. They told us about a local favorite in Ensenada. (I think Ensenada is about 40 minutes from VDG). Muelle 3 is on the pier and tucked away from all the hustle and bustle. Don't sweat the hawking from restaurants trying to get you to eat at their place. We were on a mission and I'm so glad we did. This is a small place and reservations are preferred because they do get your groups. We were lucky to get a seat at the bar. The seafood was the freshest I've had. We tried the following: 1. Ceviche de casa- they're special w four kinds of seafood. Perfect. 2. Fresh yellow tail over risotto. It was ridiculously full of flavor. And the perfectly grilled fish was a perfect compliment. 3. Lovely Margaritas. It's all in the mix and these were great. I'm not taking any chances on my next trip to VDG and will be making a res here for sure. Shout out to Caleb our server who took such great care of us.

Yelp
Always a fantastic experience, seafood is as fresh as it gets, right off the boat!!! Beautifully prepared, delicious with a view of the ocean. Side note: their salsa matcha is fabulous, and different from any I've had; I need the recipe!

Yelp
Little gem in Ensenada , the food is great and be aware portions are huge so u recommend an appetizer and then share a main. Also strongly recommend make a reservation since it a very little restaurant.

Yelp
My very favorite restaurant! Fantastic food, very pleasant atmosphere and great people.

Yelp
Inspired by the good reviews, I decided to give Muelle 3 a shot. I walked in and asked the simple, "What's the freshest right now?" The answer was the yellowtail. I ordered the yellowtail sashimi, hoping to get a full appreciation for the freshness. And this, my friends, was the best yellowtail that I have eaten in my life, and I've gone to 31 countries (including Japan. yes, it beat Tokyo sushi!). It had a bit of soy seasoning, which went great with it. The ceviche was also out of this world. The service was great, with a really nice view. Ambiance was very relaxed, though it's small inside. It's really close to El Mercado Negro, maybe a 2-minute walk. Pass on the restaurants that are super obvious by that touristy spot and go here!

Yvette V.

Yelp
This place was absolutely delicious so worth the money everything was super good! Very fresh. Was not expensive top notch AAA rating. Restsurant will only take y by reservation the only way you can get in. Thank you Muelle 3 is the BEST! I highly recommend it

Yelp
Very cool spot at the end of a row of seafood restaurants. Please note you need to walk through the black market (fish) and then turn right at the pier and the photo on google maps is incorrect! This place doesn't look like the rest. Aka not touristy and loudly decorated. Nice play on industrial, nautical colors and warm wood accents. We tried four dishes for lunch. The hours are different, open until 630 so we opted for a late lunch today without dinner. Arrived at 330pm to the Smiths playing on the sound system. You can see a fridge with a few carefully curated local white wines and beers, we didn't partake today however. Clam chowder - quite different from your traditional New England Style, a little thinner (a good thing) but lovely clammy flavor. Yellowtail tostada - loved! Fresh as hell fish, tomatoes, ginger, cucumber and grapes! I loved the addition of grapes. Octopus Huitlacoche with cheesy polenta and corn. This was delicious! I don't eat much octopus but it was done well, nice flavor from the corn and huitlachoche and a creamy richness from the polenta. Shrimp with garlic and salad - this was the only dish that was a bit pedestrian. But I wanted some gambas ai ajillo . This was a great experience - recommend highly!

Yelp
This little jewel is located in Ensenada. Walk to the end of the Mercado Negro and onto the malecón. Turn right and look for the sign. The place is very small, so reservations are recommended, but we were able to find a seat. We ordered lemonade, oysters, and the fish of the day. The lemonade was excellent. The oysters were incredibly fresh and delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked and some of the best fish I've ever eaten! I highly recommend this place. I can't wait to return.

Yelp
While enjoying the ambience viewing the passers and boats, the food is even more tastier with addition of friendly services.

Yelp
It was okay. It was the last meal of our trip and we were excited, but it was a let down. Everything was just....okay. Not as fresh, not as well prepared, not as etc. octopus with huitlacuche ceviche oysters Maybe anywhere else, it would have been a home run, but we ate at so many great places in the valle and ensenada that were better. I'll be fair though. Compared to everywhere else and for the price, it was a great meal.

Leopoldo M. C.

Yelp
Food at Muelle 3 is the best in the area. Seafood is absolutely fresh! I have tried clam chowder in several places (San Francisco, Boston, Portland) and my wife and I agreed they have the best one. Their ceviche, Camaroncillas, pasta with seafood and arroz cremoso are more than delicious. You can't leave Ensenada without eating at Muelle 3
google avatar

Andy G.

Yelp
Best meal of our entire trip. It was the highlight of our stop in Ensenada for sure. Fresh off the boat seafood, expertly prepared! Tips: Get a reservation. It's small and popular. Try several things. We did calamari, House ceviche, seafood with rice (paella-like) and a seafood pasta dish. Follow those two tips and you'll enjoy a wonderful meal.

Micaelah T.

Yelp
I come from the states. The menu wasn't in English which wouldn't have been a problem except the waiter also didn't speak English. Tried to Google translate the food but in the end I just had to order something not knowing what was in it.
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Unbelievably fresh seafood. Small quaint. Friendly. Close to cruise ship terminal. Right next to fish market.
google avatar

Adam T.

Yelp
Great food and extremely fair prices, low prices compared to other locations. The food is superb!!! Quite an experience.
google avatar

Paola N.

Yelp
Wow! Delicious! THE AMBIANCE: Small. Sits on the marina. Parking in a dirt parking lot in the back. Make a reservation or you will likely not get a table. Place is always full. Main dining is inside but they also have some patio outdoor seating. THE FOOD: Fresh and delicious. It has 5 stars for a reason. My family are regulars and know the owner(s). A table favorite was the calamari with the chili sauce for dipping and the octopus which was cooked perfectly. Honestly, no complaints and will be going back! I'll let the photos do most of the talking.

Yelp
Yup, get your seafood-loving ass as soon as you get here. Everything is fresh and served with love. Hell, you can even watch the fishermen roll in with their catches while you sip your wine or beer from this fine part of the world. Here are my faves: Ceviche de la Casa, Almojaditas, Pin Pon, y el vino. We ordered so much food, that we had to cancel an additional order. Every bite was seasoned perfectly and with just enough kick. Come and eat, not only for the food, awesome service, but also for the Malecon and Mercado Negro. ¡Viva Mexico!

Yelp
Wonderful fresh seafood. A small gem of a restaurant with great food and service. This is our go to restaurant in Ensenada for fresh right off the boat seafood.
google avatar

Steph K.

Yelp
This is one of the best meals we have had in a long time. The house ceviche is amazing! I highly suggest going with whatever they suggest as the catch of the day and the special. The service is incredible. We will 100% come back here every time we come to Ensenada.

Samantha D.

Yelp
Amazing food. Very casual place. Just be sure to make a reservation at least one day before.
google avatar

Alex V.

Yelp
Had to wait an hour to get there, got in line at 4:20 pm and got the table at 5:20 pm. But when I was eating, there were like 2-3 tables available, and that's a small place, maybe 10-12 tables total, so I guess the wait time can be unpredictable. Wanted to get there for a while, it is considered to be one of the best restaurants in Ensenada, and I can tell that waiting was worth it. I had Pin-Pon as an appetizer (grilled octopus and calamari in lightly spicy sauce). They also bring fresh bread with butter. Awesome dish, 5*. The main course was Seafood Pasta, which many people try to recommend in their reviews, and it was just perfectly cooked. The presentation was beautiful as well. For dessert, I had Guava Mousse, and it was divine. Overall, one of the best dinners I ever had and I want to come back many times to try everything they have on the menu. 5* view, 5* food, 5* service.

Todd K.

Yelp
Basic little unassuming spot with amazing food! The service was excellent as well. An absolute must visit when in Ensenada.

Yelp
Muy delicioso todo, aunque es un pequeño sitio; sin duda comeras muy agradable! Precios justos

Yelp
We walked to this place from our cruise ship. Cute little place at the end of the Marina. They gave us a complimentary potato skewer upon arrival. The menu was in Spanish, but our server was able to translate for us. We enjoyed the red snapper, but we LOVED the house ceviche and pasta de Mariscos. This was the most memorable meal we had this vacation!
google avatar

Yelp
This tiny restaurant near Ensenada fish market is a must. Fish always fresh, service prompt and very reasonable. Due to size reservation is recommended.
google avatar

Don L.

Yelp
Extraordinary seafood (esp. oysters and ceviche) at a very reasonable price, cordial and accommodating service and located right by a touching monument to local fishermen list at sea.
google avatar

Juan V.

Yelp
I seldom give a 5-star rating, but Muelle 3 more than deserves it. The food is world-class, fresh, innovative, and delicious. The oysters were among the freshest I've ever eaten, and the sashimi was transcendent, with ponzu sauce, a tiny bit of fresh ginger and even less Serrano chili, and a dusting of shichimi togarashi, amazing. Another dish not to be missed is the "pulpo con huitlacoche" (grilled octopus with corn fungus),which comes with a delicious salsa verde and a small container of habanero sauce that is to be avoided at all costs. Other small plates are also really good, and although we didn't order it, the small portion of house ceviche looked delicious and more than enough for two. Each table has a wooden box with a large assortment of hot sauces, so you can experiment with different tastes. They have quite a beer list and an adequate wine list. We had a bottle of white Grenache that was quite good; the waiter told me the grapes come from France but they're aged and bottled in the Valle de Guadalupe, the local wine-growing region. Save some room for the lava cake, which is very rich and tasty as well. Service was friendly and attentive. This is a very small place and it's only open from noon until 6:30pm, so get there early or you may have to wait. If you make the trip down to BC and go to Ensenada you cannot miss this place. It's also worth noting that lunch for four including a bottle of wine and tip came out to about $75 as of this writing, so it's quite affordable, too.

Yelp
Food was great! Best ceviche ever!!!!it was not too lemony... each ingredient speak out properly. Nothing was over powering. Service was amazing. I feel so welcoming and sweet. Restsurant location is by the marina.

Christie B.

Yelp
Kaleb translated the menu for us so we would know the options. He was very friendly and patient enough to explain the majority of the menu. The food tasted great. Lots of flavor and a nice relaxing spot. We ate outside to be out in the fresh air. I would recommend this place, it is not far from the cruise ship. We will be going again trying out some of there other meals.

Xiomara L.

Yelp
Omg the food was delicious. Everything the party ordered was delicious. Make a reservation not sure if walkins are allowed. And the food portions are huge Im not kidding.
google avatar

Juan G.

Yelp
A new twist on old Mexican seafood recipes that are very good. The place has a Minimalist Seaside Modern look to the interior and is kept clean with great service from the staff. They serve the traditional Mexican beers and a lot of local craft beers too. I also saw they serve wine, red and white. The staff has a hipster vibe that ties in to the whole atmosphere. The Yellow Tail Sashimi is great. I thought the black marinade would be too salty since it has Soy Sauce but no, it was well balanced. I would order that again. The 1/2 order of Ceviche del la Casa is good too. Don't expect the traditional Mex ceviche, it's chucky with fish and octopus and whole shrimp. The flavor is well balanced too, not super lemony. The Octopus with Huitlacoche (corn smut) was a bit disappointing because I expected this to have the Umami, and it didn't. You get Umami from using great mushrooms like Huitlacoche but in this case I had to add salt and lime juice to bring up the seasoning and the acidity. The avocado salsa they serve with it was great and the hand made tortillas were nice. It reminded me of an Alembre from Mex City. great texture tho. Great place, I loved it and I can't wait to explore more of their menu.

Analyn B.

Yelp
Es una delicia 100 recomendado Super good food I loved it Great customer service Servicio excelente

Yelp
Get a reservation. We luckily didn't have one, but were seated. In the time it took our ceviche to arrive 4 small groups were turned away and said they didn't have an opening for 4 hours.
google avatar

Laura B.

Yelp
This spot has the best ceviche in town and that is not an overstatement!!! I grew up in this town and now I live in LA and every trip back this spot is a must on my list! Their service is always great and friendly and their vibe is just perfect. The restaurant is overlooking the marina and it's quite small, so it is always good to try and get there right when they open. The wait could be long, but they let you order drinks when waiting.

Leticia G.

Yelp
This hole in the wall, we make sure to stop when traveling to ensenada, one of our fav places to stop and eat, dont forget to make a reservation great prices food is great. Love it
google avatar

Jimmy H.

Yelp
Well worth looking for. Find Calle Miramar then head towards the bay. You'll pass open air fish vendors that give a hint of great things to come. I had the grilled Octopus appetizer and the catch of the the day Yellowtail for my entree. Absolutely delicious.

Shawn R.

Yelp
Very good, very small. While we were able to get seated as a drop-in, reservations are recommended. We very much enjoyed our lunch while watching the fishermen unload right next to the restaurant.
google avatar

Bill P.

Yelp
Excellent place to stop on the way to wine tasting country. The service is perfect here and the food is so fresh and tasty. This is on higher end of the food style much like you would get at some fancy upscale seafood restaurants. However you get that amazing quality without all the hoopla and hype. You also pay a fraction of what it would cost for fine dining in the states. The place is very casual and laid back overlooking the fishing dock. do yourself a favor and stop in next time your close. I know I will

Yelp
Changed my perspective and taste for seafood. Amazing dishes, I have no words to describe it, my palate was literally introduced and educated to unique flavors. Must visit if you come to Ensenada. Make your reservation.
