Google
Forget Red Lobster’s boiled seafood!! If you really want a scrumptious seafood boil, this is the place to go! I got the chef’s recommendation to try it out and it didn’t disappoint (loooove it when I am tired and I ask at a new place what dish makes them proud and they go: say less!)🙏🏾 I had just landed from Oakland and was feeling super tired, I got first an iced coffee with sweet cream that hit the spot! Now, lemme tell you about the seafood boil😛 there were baby potatoes, corn on the cob, Andouille sausage, prawns and crab, perfectly seasoned and hot, basted in butter but not greasy, just flavorful and cooked to perfection 🥰 I liked it so much I came back again at the end of my trip and this time got their famous gumbo, spicy with tender pieces of chicken, sausage and shrimp over rice, be still my heart!! The cart is conveniently placed next to a bar and I got to enjoy my food with a pint. If you visit Portland or you are lucky enough to live close to this spot, this cart is a MOST!!!

Google
⚜️ Louisiana approved ⚜️ I'm from cajun country and everything was legit good. The Red beans and rice were perfect with andouille. The Gumbo was New Orleans style with tomatoes but the roux was dark and just right, really delicious with chicken and sausage. Also tried the Nipsey Hustle which was sort of like a shrimp salad poboy and really tasty. Will definitely be back.

Google
Start by saying I spent A LOT of my life in East Texas and the Gulf Coast. Good gumbo is hard to find up here in the Pacific Northwest. This is probably the first legit gumbo I've found. I got the regular with traditional gumbo base, andouille, shrimp, and crab. Go all out, why not? The price seemed expensive, until i got the bowl. Literally half a crab in the shell, half a dozen huge shrimp, tons of sausage, okra, rice, perfect gumbo base. Fingers coated in crab juice, mess all over the place, very very happy. Worth every penny. You want real gumbo? Go here.

Google
Amazing experience, the Chicken Gumbo is so delicious. It worth swinging by here. Thanks Griffin.

Google
Outstanding food! The cook is wonderful and helpful about what is gluten free! The portion sizes are very large but you will not want your stop eating them! We were certain we wanted to come here after the ear piercing. So, we had called the night before and found out most of their food is gluten free except the gumbo. My husband is gluten free so I had the Trinity gumbo. He had the red beans and rice. Hands down some of the best we have had! I would recommend to anyone looking for Cajun in PDX. My husband was told about this spot from a coworker and we looked it up. We love Cajun food, so it was a must try. We would go back in a heartbeat. If you have a good allergy, call them and they know all of their ingredients/spices well to aide you. I can’t wait to go back!

Google
Absolutely phenomenal vegan gumbo. The broth was so flavorful, tasted so meaty. Just delicious! And the banana pudding was also outstanding, a really great treat. A perfect stop for vegetarians and vegans!

Google
This food cart really surprised me. As a southerner born and raised, I am skeptical of the southern/Cajun food I find elsewhere and am mostly disappointed with what I find. Not here! They have very authentic offerings. I could tell by the smell when walking up that they had the spices right. My daughters shrimp sandwich (Nipsy hussle) was super good. The Gumbo, however, was absolutely awesome! Thick, savory, spiced well, authentic, and delicious. Put this cart on your itinerary when visiting Moda center. You won't be disappointed. 🔥🔥🔥Oooooeeee!

Google
A absolutely must visit for vegans and meat-eaters alike. The vegan broth tastes nearly identical to a standard gumbo broth, and the vegan chicken and andouillie are absolutely delicious. I fear this place is gonna become a problem for my wallet. Oh, and don't miss the banana pudding. It SLAPS

Yelp
Was up late and craving some much needed comfort food. Found this gem on here and took the drive to try them out! Service was personable and quick! I asked what Ryan the gentleman working had recommended and he said the trinity! It's flavorful and definitely comforting! Food was prepared quickly and it came out piping hot! Definitely recommend trying this place out! I'll be back to try more items on the menu

Yelp
Authentic affordable gumbo with a kick. Got the vegan version to try and loved how much okra they put in there. Portion sizes are pretty large so even a 'small' bowl will fill you up. You can taste the flavor so well too and it'll warm you up on a cold day.

Yelp
Shrimp and grits are fire. Being from the south this is a good spot for Cajun food. Good customer service too.

Yelp
Loved this spot!! I don't think I've ever had gumbo before and this did not disappoint for me. Lots of flavor and texture as promised. I got the Trinity which was the winning order of the day - full of chicken, sausage, and shrimp but my favorite part was the okra! It was about a 15-20 minute wait but the food was piping hot and tasted fresh when we got it. It warmed me up so nicely on a classic drizzly Portland Sunday.

Yelp
Fire!!!!!! Found this place by happenstance and soooo lucky we did. First of all it's a nice little set up, a few food truck set ups with a bar /dining hall set up. We went wayyy late and the only think left open was the gumbo truck ,which is who we went for in the first place so that worked out. We got some varied items. First of all the red beans and rice, OMG!!! SO GOOD. the shrimp sandwich was delicious. The andouille sausage and hot link ( ala carte) were very flavorful, but my only critique is that they were fired a little too long. We arrived too late to do the boil, I mean they offered, but a 30 min wait, so we opted not to get that. We got a sweet tea, that was delicious too. All in all, it was so flavorful and so we'll put together, you would swear you're sitting in a restaurant. Just a really good job of fresh, simple, delicious food. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. I found myself making an excuse to be in this area just to gobble down some comfort gumbo and I was deeply disappointed. After all of the fantastic reviews raving about the thick gravy, I felt it lacked texture and seasoning. It was watery and just not all that flavorful. I ended up taking it home and "doctoring" it by adding my own seasoning to make it palatable. It's in a great location though! Love the FOPO food truck pod. Plenty of seating and options!

Yelp
Was craving seafood boil late this evening but unfortunately nothing was open but I saw this place was open until 11PM and on Yelp it stated that they have crab boil! So I came by hoping to get some crab boil but alas, they only serve it on Friday's, Saturday's, and Sunday's. I came on a Wednesday Still gave their other menu a try, I had the gumbo and the shrimp n grits. Both very flavorful, definitely loved the grits more. I wish I had the option to separate the rice and gumbo as I like to slowly incorporate the two. Would definitely come back to try the rest of the menu! The gentleman suggested we can always call beforehand to place to order to avoid the wait - especially for the crab boil. The stall was next to a bar and other food stalls, it was a small but cozy area.

Yelp
I'd give this place 3.5.. Simple menu and you can customize to your liking. I chose gumbo with shrimp and little rice. Food comes piping hot! Small bowl is good size for 1.5 meals I'd say, esp since I asked for little rice. I also did get a good amount of shrimp. The okra in it tasted like it was frozen or very over cooked and mushy. The gumbo flavor overall wAs decent, nothing spectacular or remarkable. I will note that is was super watery, which I was surprised? I thought it typically is thicker with the flour from the roux, but I am a gumbo expert. Maybe asking for some hot sauce would make it better? Would I come back? Possibly if I'm craving creole flavors and it's there. But wouldn't go out of my way to eat here or crave this truck in particular. It's in a lot with tons of food trucks available and seating. I parked in the neighborhood street which was a short walk.

Yelp
Mumbo Gumbo serves interpretations of southern food. They've got two cart locations and they're partnered on a brick and mortar called Grits N Gravy. The menu includes gumbo of course, and also shrimp n grits, nipsey hussle, the trinity, the staple, sausage by itself, nana pudd'n, sweet potato pie, and more. The gumbo ordering process is as follows... Step 1 - choose a base (traditional, vegan, or red beans) Step 2 - choose a size (regular for $7 or small for $5) Step 3 - choose proteins (2-3 recommended - chicken +$2, shrimp +$4, scallop +$3, hot link +$3, andouille +$3, veg andouille +$3, veg chic'n +$3, or crab +$8) I got a regular sized vegan base with veg andouille. That's $10 plus tip. The size is great for the price and it's certainly a hearty warm meal that would be great for winters. I do wonder whether the dish shines brighter with the flavors and textures of meat. As it was, I wanted a bit more spice or wow factor. It was good, but not as crave-worthy as other reviews suggest. I'd be interested in coming back to give some of their other menu dishes a try!

Yelp
My friend and I came around 8pm on a Thursday and there was no line. Ordered the small bowl with chicken and andouille which was def enough portion for 1 person to be full. Waited about 10 min for food to be prepared. Tasted very hearty and chicken was tender, solid meal for the price!

Nichole 'Nykke' S.

Yelp
Been on my "try it" list for a minute. Got the Trinity, which was good and filing. B/f got it with crab. Crab was dungeons and may have been pre frozen. Other than that, good. The hot link on a bun was so good! And the Nana pudding had slices of banana. The services was great, too and we will be back to try other menu items.

Yelp
Super happy this place opens as late as it does! The Shrimp and Grits were by far the best I have been able to find within Seattle-Portland parameters (if you have any other recommendations, my ears are open). The shrimps was cooked perfectly and the Andouille sausage was the best compliment. The sauce was great as well with moderate spiciness. We also really enjoyed the Cajun Crab though I'm more a crawfish girl myself. Definitely got way more than we could eat, but that garlic flavor was absolutely phenomenal. The banana pudding will suffice for any dessert lovers - I wish the wafers were a bit softer but overall a decent end to the meal.

Yelp
Ok you win, this is probably the best gumbo in Portland. The kick, the spices, the whole gumbo was perfectly balanced. I'm not sure if I had better than this outside the west coast. Do yourself a favor and come here, you won't regret it

Yelp
Decided to visit with clients last night and was very impressed! Fun environment and great food. Every place has its own flair but Mumbai was my choice. Food was freshly prepared in 10 minutes and I was notified by the chef/owner who provided friendly service. I enjoyed the nipsy hustle (shrimp poboy) Which was sautéed not fried which made it even better! Then I added the shrimp and grits which was flavorful with jumbo shrimp and sausage. Will be back!

Yelp
I hate doing this and I know it can be challenging to keep up a consistent "greatness." Having said that, MG has gone from a five a few years ago to a three. Good but not great. Grits we're runny as was "Nana's" pudding. It never did sit up and stayed in a liquid state -like a banana soup. The Trinity has good flavor but very soupy as well. Will be back some later time to see if this was a bad day for MG but for the $ this was not worth it today.

Yelp
After hearing the old security guard at my work mention Mumbo Gumbo to anyone who would listen for months on end, I finally found myself in the Sellwood neighborhood with an empty belly and decided it was my lunch destination. I went in thinking this would be a fancy version of Popeyes' red beans and rice, which I love and was the only red beans and rice I knew up until this point. It is definitely NOT that case. BUT it wasn't disappointing either, just different! This is stick-to-your-ribs, cold weather food. It reminded me of a flavorful stew. The guy working the window was super friendly and while this isn't somewhere I would necessarily seek out, I would definitely be down to try more from the cart in the future.
google avatar

Elizabeth T.

Yelp
Friendly staff; support local! Everything here is made to order, so expect a wait if there are others in line. (Be patient, it's worth it!) Why bother with The Cheesecake Factory for Gumbo when there's a local spot that does it even better?! Great portions, even better food. Ordered the personalized Traditional Gumbo bowls and the Shrimp n Grits. My Gumbo bowl had shrimp, scallop, crab and sausage. They definitely don't skimp on portions, which is a plus. Flavor is great, not salty, not sweet, not spicy, which means it's very friendly for all tastebuds. For my spicy food eaters I would recommend adding Cajun seasoning and sticking with the Louisiana Hot Sauce for that extra spice to pull all the flavors together. Personally, the Shrimp n Grits was my favorite. It was a mix of Cajun, creamy and cheesy goodness. I'm not a fan of mushy food but the texture of the grits was fine for me, which I was surprised about. 10/10 recommend, this as a must try and my favorite item here. Hoping to come back and see what the Cajun Boil hype is all about!

Yelp
A friend that I trust a lot recommended Mumbo Gumbo to me...with the weather recently in the 40s and 50s, I felt like it was the perfect lunch option. The prices were actually pretty good imo for gumbo. A regular sized gumbo was $6 and a smaller size was $4. Protein options included chicken, sausage, scallops, shrimp, and vegan ranged from $2-4, which felt like a fair price. I opted for a hot link and scallops which set me back $11, a little pricey for a food cart but overall a good value given the quality of the gumbo and size of the meal. The first bite immediately took me by surprise, as it tasted like one of the best gumbos I've had and rivaled that of homemade versions I've eaten and much better than anywhere else I've had in Portland. The gumbo wasn't too thick, and wasn't too thin, and the roux was cooked to the perfect shade of brown that gave it that rich nutty depth of flavor that I love. The veggies didn't seem like they sat in the gumbo the entire time before serving so they still had good texture when it arrived in your bowl. The protein was added after your order so it wasn't overly cooked as well. This was one of the most comforting and best gumbos I've had, except...the most basic component, the rice was inedible on my first visit. I ate like 4-6 bites and noticed odd crunchy bits that stuck to my teeth that puzzled me at first... eventually I realized that some of the rice kernels wasn't cooked thru. Each mouthful actually had a lot of uncooked rice...I told the cashier about it. I tried to continue eating it, but the undercooked rice was too distracting to finish. I gave my meal back and was told that they are cooking up a new batch now. I didn't have time to wait and I asked if I could come back later and they obliged. I ended up returning the next day and got the same order. The cashier on this day was super friendly and apologized for the issue, which I appreciated. I got my meal and everything tasted perfect at first. The rice was cooked perfectly on my first few bites and then I tasted more undercooked rice. It was substantially less than the day before and it was so few that I was able to finish it with no issues, but it was distracting enough to not fully enjoy the meal...and I would have thought that after my experience the day before that it would be dialed in this time. After thinking about it a few days, the weather was in the 40s and 50s and maybe the rice cooker just didn't have the power to thoroughly cook the rice though properly. I'm willing to give Mumbo Gumbo another shot since their gumbo was so perfect. Maybe I'll just order it without rice, or get rice on the side in the future.

Yelp
So glad to find this place after a big craving hitted post gumbo and cajun broil cooking video binge. The Shrimp n' Grits was amazing! The secret must be in the creamy, spicy sauce; it was delicious. The texture of the grits was also spot on, not too mushy and not too solid. The shrimps were meaty as all can be and the andouille sausage was great. I think this dish may have been better than the one I had in New Orleans; favorite dish of the night We also got a small bowl of build your own gumbo (which was actually kinda big) with scallops. Very generous with the portion. The spices blend together really well with all the veggies and rice. We slurped every last drop of the bowl up. I was kinda excited for the Banana Pudding but it was OK. The nilla wafer was nice, of course. But the pudding was just a basic vanilla pudding and a bit runny. Overall, a great spot! Will be back again when the craving hits again.

Yelp
Thanks moderators for attempting to snuff my legitimate review but pple need to know the truth about this place so they don't waste their time and money here. For the record Yelp, I never made any remarks that reinforced negative cultural stereotypes, made light of physical or sexual violence, or otherwise included unnecessarily graphic or offensive descriptions so I'm sure businesses like this are able to pay to have bad reviews removed. (FYI everyone, this is no longer a 4.5 star place at present, it's just not.) If I had known better, I wouldn't have given this places so many chances & to be frank, it's the X factor that has driven this place to the ground. It's definitely gone from good bad to $hitty within the new year. I used to grab their banana pudding all the time which used to be consistent but not anymore. On one night, I was further north so I paid them a visit at their location off 82nd and X said they didn't have anymore to sell. Second time I go, again X makes some excuse that they're out of certain supplies and can't make this can't make that and tells me that they're shutting down this location permanently. (Oddly on their website, it says it's still around). Few weeks pass and I go to their foster/Powell location and surprise, it's insufferable X again. Guess what? "Sorry, ran out of banana pudding, the only thing I can make is the Staple." By now, I understand it's no coincidence that X just doesn't want our business because every time we come, hours before their 2AM close time, we're told the same thing. Furthermore, I ask if they still make a sweet tea and they said sure. I show X a Yelp check-In coupon and X says they don't know how to process that. Keep in mind, I also ordered a gumbo after caving in so it wasn't like I was asking for only a free tea. But even after I'm presenting this legit coupon out of their Yelp page, X adamantly refused to honor the coupon and give me the free drink. We get it, it's probably their dying business which is why I haven't seen anybody else manning the truck anymore and w/ X's unapologetic attitude and refusal to make certain foods no matter what time/day, I'm letting everyone know about my piss poor experiences. Maybe it's isolated or maybe others may have something similar to say so let the truth be told.

Yelp
The quality has TANKED. It was good the first few times I've had it, not sure if ownership changed but the last two times I have ordered, my rice was either cold or not fully cooked. Also what's the point in getting double meat options if the portions look the same as the normal options? I've ordered several times without double, and then with, it's the same portions. Not eating from here again. I don't get how you can mess up rice.

Yelp
Got the trinity gumbo and it was DELICIOUS. Large portions and very flavorful. Good fresh ingredients. Friendly service! Will definitely return.

Yelp
Horrible. Do not waste your time. Customer service was bad as we waited 30 minutes for our food and on top of that, they were out of half the items they had on the menu. There were large chunks of onion that should have been chopped more along with the onion skins in the gumbo. I am originally from Louisiana and this gumbo was no where near being authentic. This was the first and last time I'll be eating here.
google avatar

Jocelyn H.

Yelp
Honestly this really hit the spot especially on a cold night. The gumbo was very savory, this is the first time I had it with cheese so it was a bit oilier than anticipated. Also the plating is really colorful and looks like it'll be pleasant and the taste didn't disappoint. Not necessarily the best gumbo I've had which is why I give it a 4 star. The roll I got was another good item the sauce it had on there had a nice kick, not sure why it's names the Nipsey but that's the only po boy I've had and it was nothing special, po boys are basically sandwiches and you can't convince me otherwise. Also I wish I would've gotten the banana pudding

Yelp
As soon as I opened my Gumbo I said "Damnnn" because I would not be surprised to find this dish in some of Portland's finest restaurants. Seriously, this is high quality cooking in the humblest setting, which makes the food that much more enjoyable. I so appreciate the vegan options. Gumbo is something I've always wanted to try, so I was pleased to fill my belly with a vegan gumbo base and vegan Andouille sausage. Ironically, my favorite parts of the gumbo were the scallops and the okra ‍ Next time I'm going to make sure to add all the spices they offer to give the gumbo a kick. But when I do return, it will be for the WINNER..."The Nipsey Hussle". I highly recommend getting this along with a small bowl of gumbo, because the refreshing sandwich is the perfect counterbalance to the rich, warm gumbo. This sandwich is LOADED with shrimp. I've never had that many shrimp in a sandwich, and they were huge too! The shrimp was perfectly cooked - not rubbery at all. The remoulade and the cabbage slaw both brought brilliant flavors to the dish. I LOVED the brioche bun, which was toasted on the inside for an incredible buttery crunch. Much love: my soul has been satisfied.

Yelp
I had been wanting to try this place because I was looking for something different, and southern, comfort, whatever you want to call it was different from what we typically get (although love). I decided to get a variety so I ordered the gumbo with chicken and sausage, shrimp and grits, and red beans and rice (also had sausage). Everything was delivered great and ready to eat. Everyone dished up a bit of everything to enjoy and boy did we! The gumbo was really good, but for some reason the red beans and rice really hit the spot for me! I thought it had such a good flavor I didn't want to stop eating (and didn't want to share anymore). I was surprised how much I loved this dish. The shrimp and grits were also quite tasty. There is not a ton of shrimp, but the sauce and the super creamy grits were delish. Our friend commented that he can no longer say he doesn't like grits after having this dish. Good size portions for the price and we'll definitely return and recommend.

Yelp
Was driving through Portland and wanted something warm and yummy. Chose this place as they had a vegetarian option for my partner. It's a food truck in a parking lot dedicated to food trucks. The bathroom is a porta potty but it was fairly decent. I definitely recommend ordering ahead as the food takes about 15 minutes to prepare. The service was very friendly and the outdoor seating was nice. It is also covered so if it is raining, no problem. I got the standard gumbo and it had several large shrimp in it and was delicious. My partner got the vegetarian version and it was pretty tasty. GET THE BANANA PUDDING. Oh lawwwwwwwwwwd it was sooo gooood.

Yelp
Not terrible for cajun food in Portland, but probably won't order again. I was looking for some good spicy cajun food to remind me of home and didn't get that today but we're in the northwest I guess. Roux was lacking and meat portion sizes seemed light. My mom's gumbo smokes this place but she spent some time in Louisiana to be fair and I'm guessing the owners here did not.

Yelp
At first bite on my first visit I knew Portland had a winner. Therefore, I was elated to see that KOIN recently dubbed Mumbo Gumbo their "Cart of the Week." This prompted me to revisit and my impression was as stellar as the first time. I opted for scallops in the best gumbo in town. A healthy portion is only $7 ($4 without the protein.) I finished off the experience with a wonderful and ample creamy banana pudding. Aside from the awesome taste across the menu, this is one of the few quality carts that has value. One of Portland's best for sure. ----- Southern/Cajun is my favorite cuisine so trying Mumbo Gumbo was a must. The gumbo was awesome, the Okra stood out as the best part. To no fault of the owner's I did not care for the rice as it was dry. However, that's true to the way they serve it in Louisiana. The small size is an ample portion. We also enjoyed the Shrimp and Grits. First, another generous portion. Excellent overall, especially whatever it's topped with. The shrimps are medium-size so you don't feel ripped off. For a small price you get a very large sized sweet tea. The owner is very cool. He only offers one condiment by design: Crystal Hot Sauce. I look forward to returning.

Yelp
We found Mumbo Gumbo on accident this weekend. We were driving through the area to see if one of our favorite places had reopened and passed by the Mumbo Gumbo sign out front. We immediately turned back around to check it out. So happy we did because this place is soooo good! You can order at the window with cash or place your order on the Grub Hub screen if you're paying with a card. There's several different options for proteins to add. You can also choose from a red bean base or traditional base as well. They have many gluten free & vegetarian options if you prefer any of those. We order 2 gumbos with chicken, hot links, and andouille sausage. Served with lemon and rice on the side and fresh onions on top these dishes were delicious! Our wait was a little more than 15 minutes and totally worth every minute. If you love gumbo give them a try! We will definitely be back.

Yelp
That had to be THE WORST banana pudding I've ever had. Had a soup-like consistency and had hardly any bananas or nilla wafers. Super disappointing.

Yelp
Are you looking for TRUE authentic Cajun/ Southern comfort food ??? You've come to the right place! Now, I'll be honest, I've never been to Louisiana. However , I have spent many many summers and family vacations visiting my mom's side of the family in Bethel, North Carolina. One thing that you must know about anyone who's conditioned to their Great Aunt Marie's shrimp n grits, is that you never make grits with water. The genius who created this dish must have had a Great Aunt Marie in their life. I was instantly teleported back to the North Carolina kitchen where many staple southern dishes were made with love and care. Then you're going to add Andouille sausages to it??? YES PLEASE! It's not even an uncomfortable spiciness. It's that kind of spice that warms your soul. I didn't put my included spork down once when I was enjoying this magical ; mouth watering bowl of yumminess. The portion to price ratio you ask? Steal of a deal! You will be nice and full after having a regular sized order of this fabulous dish. You will even have room for Brandon's Nana Puddin! Oh yeah , I'm so posting a review about that pudding don't worry! Ok, I had to edit my review because you can't write multiple reviews about each item on Yelp lol. Let's talk about Brandon's Nana Puddin & the Trinity Gumbo. My boyfriend is a born and raised PNW boy and he told me that there was a place here in Portland that had gumbo and it shut down. However, he exclaimed with joy, " Mumbo Gumbo blows that place away ! The cumin in this Trinity Gumbo is at the perfect level " , says my PNW foodie babe. This dish put him in a food coma and that never happens with take away food! I'm looking forward to creating my own gumbo next time. For a place such as this to be able to execute culinary masterpieces for even to-go orders says something. OK, Let's talk dessert! When you say : "Hold up, I ain't done yet, do that 2 x times " , it wasn't even hard to add two of those heavenly cups of bodacious banana pudding treats to our order. Each spoonful just melts in your mouth! The cinnamon sprinkled on top of the whip *chef's kiss* . Getting through the first layer is just the beginning, you will be thanking yourself that you ordered this delightful delicacy! It's the perfect way to end your dining experience and it leaves you feeling like a kid again. Also it's cool and refreshing during this summer heat! Mumbo Gumbo, you get two very enthusiastic thumbs up from both me and my boyfriend! I personally want to thank you for having quality east coast southern food that has the ability to teleport me back into time. Finally, to anyone that chooses to give this place less than 5 stars : you are clearly out of your mind and I wouldn't accept a dinner invite to your home ever.

Yelp
This place is delicious and a great add to the Westmoreland area, especially on a cool or rainy day. They offer several known Cajun / Creole dishes like Shrimp and Grits or you can make your own gumbo, as easy at 1-2-3. That is usually my move. I like making a small bowl with Red Beans, Chicken, and Hot Links. But I've tried several of the dishes and always leave happy. Not only is this stuff authentic and filling, it's a great deal. Brandon is super nice and passionate about his food and business. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Yelp
OK I'll share my secret honey hole for creole food in Westmoreland with all of you, not because I want to, I honestly feel obliged because of how well the owner and his staff has treated me. The gumbo is delicious. You can customize the gumbo to your liking which I appreciate. I recommend andouille, crab and shrimp, extra creole spice on top. The shrimp and grits is really good, but I always return for the signature dish: the gumbo. The banana pudding and sweet potato pie could very well be two of the best desserts in all of SE. I really mean that. The custard in the banana pudding is addictive. The sweet potato pie is perfection.

Yelp
Gumbo in Portland?! I had seen the sign to this place with bright pink and baby blue thinking it might be an ice cream cart. I was lucky enough to have a friend win an Insta contest and get a free meal for a week so figured try it out as well. The chicken gumbo was absolutely amazing! I got a side of shrimp added too which was also delicious. The banana pudding really hit home and I'm amazed i was able to finish it all with the great portion amounts they serve up here. Excellent cart and excellent guy working it. I must come back here again.

Yelp
Tasty. Food. Nipsey Hussle. That's all you need to know, now gooooo! For anyone still here... Mumbo Gumbo is a tasty treat or possibly a dinner if you add a side or paired with another entree. The sandwich that I chose was the ever famous, Nipsey Hussle and it did not disappoint on flavor. The shrimp was succulent, enveloped in the creamy house-made Cajun Remoulade. The pickled cabbage proposes a slight tang for your mouth buds. It makes me wonder why I have had shrimp any other way. The reason I say add a side or paired with another entree is the size. Eating this alone is unlikely to fill you up. I know I have a larger than average stomach so perhaps if you fill up on small bites, you will be fine. Sadly, I did not possess this insight prior to ordering and driving home. :sad-face: Oh, and the service was impeccable! Quick, friendly, personable, and polite!

Yelp
Wish we didn't have to use grub hub! Would rather give the tip and service fees to mumbo gumbo. The food that comes out of these trucks is surprisingly good. I've never been a fan of the food truck idea until Portland sold me on it. Unfortunately driving to the trucks isn't convenient for me so delivery is the only option. Ordered 4 entrees and they each were portioned in takeout bowls. I point this out because 3 of the 4 looked exactly the same (minus a lemon slice in 1) so it was a little difficult to tell what was what. What I know is they each tasted good! We ate family style so I got to try all 4. The shrimp n grits stood out from the Gumbo & the Trinity. I noticed okra and andouille in 1 signaling gumbo & Loved the spice level. The trinity was priced higher then the gumbo but couldn't tell a difference.

Yelp
It wasn't bad. It just wasn't mind blowing either. We didn't really go OMG! Amazing! It was more like a one time thing. We DoorDashed the order. It took about an hour for delivery but the food was still hot when we got it. Gumbo with Shrimp: this came with okra sauce. We liked this one better among the two. It was slightly more flavorful. Though we expected it to be stronger. Gumbo with andouille sausage: this one came with kidney beans gravy. A little sweeter for our taste. Very mild flavor. The Nipsey hussle: other yelpers are right about the amount of shrimp in the sandwich but the sandwich itself is quite small to warrantee a $12 price tag. Also didn't know the shrimp filling is cold. Wasn't expecting that. Nana's pudding: this is what let me down. Expected it to be a little more thicker, custard - pudding consistency. This was less viscous and little runny. Didn't like the amount of whipped cream in it. Watered down the pudding's flavor. The bananas and biscuit were a nice touch though.

Yelp
Don't f*** around. EAT HERE. Quit reading the reviews and make the decision. It's incredible. Shrimp and grits is a must!

Yelp
I have been to Louisiana and this gumbo is comparable to them! Tasty, fresh and full of flavor! Wished i was closer to get this more often. The location is great. There is alcohol, indoor or outdoor seating and friendly people!

Yelp
Amazing Creole cuisine with a twist or two;) The nipssey hussle is a light, yet filling sandwich loved it! But those grits OMGoodness so warm and creamy. Perfect grey day lunch :)

Yelp
Came here while on a roadtrip. The gumbo and shrimp and grits were nothing to stop for. HOWEVER, the nipsey hussle was amazing. I would single handedly come back here just for that item. The shrimp was amazing, almost like a sashimi (cold, moist, very sweet too). You have to get that when you come down. I think they use the same shrimp for everything, but in this dish it comes cold and it's so much better than in the gumbo. Place would probably be 5 stars if I just got that, but the other items were just off the mark IMO (nothing special).

Yelp
It's the holy grail of food carts. I have never before Toms BBQ Tacos been so hyped up for a Good Cart. The late night hours the delusions of grandeur. This place has its loyal followers and now you can count me in for one more. There was a line during Corona and it just kept coming that should tell you something. There is another food cart right next store feeding off the leftovers of this cart. Yeah it's that good. They have a variety of choices all the meats all the beans I really don't think you can make a bad choice. The flavors are way beyond anything normal in Portland which I find on the bland side. This place has it all. The gumbo is right on. My only issue would be it was so hot not spice hot temperature hot. Took a long time to cool down before I could eat it. I mean that's probably good but I was so excited I burned my mouth a couple of time jumping the gun. It was a little watery and I always like more rice. Those are minimal not picky kind of critiques. Its so good it may be in my weekly circuit. There is no doubt at least once a month. I would definitely recommend the check in deal for the sweet tea. They get it right here. Too many other restaurants believe the sweet tea is sweet. It's more about the lemon and they do it right.

Yelp
Mumbo Gumbo's knocked it out of the park for me and took me by surprise. We felt like indulging (calorie wise LOL) one day and came across MG on Yelp and couldn't pass up the fact that they had a sandwich on their menu named after the late Nipsey Hussle - that itself immediately drew us in. We ordered: - The Nipsey Hussle - sooo fire! The sandwich is really flavorful, comforting and refreshing all at the same time. A must order for sure - Shrimp n Grits - again, sooo fire!! I usually never order shrimp n grits but I'm so glad my boyfriend decided on this. It was amazing - so incredibly rich and the shrimp was cooked perfectly *drools* - The Trinity - so hearty and filling! Huge amount of gumbo for the price you pay and they do not skimp out on the proteins, super worth it I'm so happy to have found this place. Service was super friendly and quick - our order was ready in 10 minutes. I'm not too familiar with the area but the food cart seems like it's nestled in a more quiet area of the neighborhood. There's covered seating and I loved the string lights hanging. Definitely going to order Brandon's Nana Pudd'n next time!

Yelp
This is one of my top 2 choices for Cajun food in portland! I've spent a good portion of my life New Orleans & Im being a certified culinarian I feel confident in saying that it's some of the most authentic Cajun food I've had in portland. Not to mention that considering how expensive food is these days, it's an excellent portion for the price! 10/10 would recommend. Bonus, they're open super late; till 2:30 on some days & always when their hours say they are; which is nice because it seems a lot of places aren't open during stated hours lately.

Yelp
Very unique concept when it comes to building your own gumbo. I ordered the small bowl and it was very filling and flavorful! The regular size is about 50% bigger compared to the small, so you will get a lot of food with either size. The staff members are also really friendly and happy to answer questions that you may have with the menu. Highly recommend and will try to stop by again if I am ever in the area.

Yelp
REAL DELICIOUS! Generous portions. Nipsey Hussle was really good. Bread was golden and crispy just like the bread from lobster rolls in the NE. Shrimp and sauce had a little kick to it. Build your own gumbo - YUUMMMM! I could only eat about half of a small - the helpings are generous. Chicken + double shrimp. The leftover gumbo was perfect for my husband to complement the Nipsey Hussle shrimp roll that he ordered.

Yelp
The Gumbo was really good. We tried the 123 and chose anduie, shrimp and scallops on one and andoiue, chicken and crab on the other. Both were very good.

Yelp
Went here with a group of friends.. We pull into the parking lot close to an outhouse & see a guy smoking. Barely moments later he was preparing food!! NO TIME to wash or even sanitize his hands- he might as well have been smoking while cooking!? During these covid times that's just NOT OKAY!!! Then as we leave he was ALREADY out there smoking again! I'm sure it was probably the same cigarette.. I'm not sure if they don't have a trash can/compost bin but there was a bunch of food particles & cardboard trash in the drain where the guy was smoking. Both rude & inviting to pests!! Mumbo Gumbo= NO THANKS.
