Rock Stars: the incredible cave hotels of Cappadocia

"Rooms are a monument to the region’s ancient cave dwellings, each one a restored, hyper-luxe version of Cappadocia’s original cave houses. If you’re into antiques, this is your place: the owner’s vast, museum-certified collection of tapestries, furniture, and other objets d’art from the Romans and Ottomans decorates the hotel, including the award-winning restaurant, which specializes in both classic and modern takes on the regional cuisine." - MICHELIN Guide

Cave Inn: Constructing a cave hotel in Cappadocia

"Flaunting its collection of antiques, this property exemplifies Cappadocia’s painstaking cave retrofits and proudly positions itself as the region’s first true luxury cave hotel, marked by a ribbon-cutting by the Minister for Tourism in 2002. Its caves are treated as living elements that can shed, demanding constant maintenance, seasonal room closures, and reinforcement of softer sections, yet the result for guests is an elegant, deeply historic setting where the craftsmanship remains front and center." - MICHELIN Guide

Museum Hotel, Uchisar, Cappadocia, Turkey - Explore & Book

"Created from the restored ruins of an ancient village, carved deep into a cliff face years ago, this Relais & Chateaux property sets the standard for luxury and service among Cappadocia hotels. A highlight of this hotel is the scenery; it overlooks a breathtaking landscape of rose-coloured ravines, dramatic rock formations and the distant volcanic cone of Mount Erciyes. Owner Omer is an antique collector, whose impressive collection of tapestries, furniture, robes and objets d’art from Roman and Ottoman times decorates the hotel’s maze of walkways and its 34 lavish cave rooms, hence the name. No 2 rooms are the same, but all are stunning, with vaulted ceilings, silk furnishings, mosaics, and marble bathrooms with jacuzzi tubs. Laze on the flower-filled terraces, swim in the the gorgeous infinity pool, and have alfresco massages with herbs and oils unique to Cappadocia. For the ultimate honeymoon experience, book an Imperial Pool Suite, with a private plunge pool set into your huge cave suite, plus a jacuzzi and/or sauna. Men can have a daily shave from the barber’s chair with the world’s most beautiful view. But don't forget to tear yourself away for tours of this fascinating region: subterranean cities, cave monasteries and traditional markets all await. Highs Magnificent views at every turn and hot-air balloons drifting past our window; a sunrise flight is the best way to see Cappadocia’s incredible landscape The fine-dining restaurant, with its classic and modern takes on Cappadocian cuisine The Roman-style infinity pool - perfect for cooling down in the heat of the day Committed to sustainable tourism: solar-generated energy, careful building restoration and locally-grown produce in the restaurant are just a few of their measures The pretty town of Uchisar, with its fairytale fortress, is a great base for exploring the region Lows It's expensive, and the opulence might feel at odds with the cave dwellings It’s easy to get lost in the hotel’s twists and turns when you first arrive The area is so serene that the small amount of distant traffic noise can jar The restaurant sometimes has a hushed, rather formal feel The cheaper rooms don't have views, and some face interior corridors - meaning you either see other guests passing, or you have no natural light" - Sarah Gilbert

Museum Hotel (Nevsehir, Cappadocia) 5 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Situated as it is between Europe and Asia, Turkey is a land comfortable with dualities: east and west, religious and secular, ancient and modern. It’s no surprise that the Museum Hotel, in the Central Anatolian region, also blends two distinct hotel experiences: luxury and history. Recent visitors, perhaps lured in part by the slew of awards the hotel has been racking up recently, span a range of demographics, from heads of state to the ladies of the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit calendar. But the big draw, swimsuit models aside, isn’t the crowd; it's Cappadocia’s famous underground cities. Constructed by early Christians to hide from the Roman Empire, these cities consist of great labyrinths carved into and beneath the volcanic rock." - Tablet Hotels

Museum Hotel | Best places to stay in Uchisar

"A meticulous restoration of caves, buildings and ruins has created a startling luxury hotel situated on the upper slopes of Uchisar town. The hotel’s name derives from the abundance of original architectural features such as ornate carved fireplaces, and is richly decorated with period carpets, ceramics and antique figurines. There’s a beautifully-sited swimming pool, and some of the rooms (all in classic Cappadocian cave style) have their own pools or jacuzzis. The fine a la carte restaurant is supplied by the hotel’s own nearby vegetable garden; guests can join the head chef for cookery demonstrations. " - Jeremy Seal

Our stay at the Museum Hotel was unforgettable. You wake up to balloons drifting across the sky, with sweeping views right from your terrace. Breakfast on the patio was a highlight — delicious, beautifully presented, and full of local touches. We stayed in Room 200, which was spacious, quiet, and comfortable, with a huge outdoor area and an incredible view. The bathroom amenities were great, and I really appreciated the professional-grade hairdryer. Every day the staff left a tray of Turkish Delight, and each evening a small homemade treat at turndown — such thoughtful touches. The service was exceptional — warm, genuine, and attentive. The property itself is full of history and charm, with peacocks wandering the grounds and even a little turtle garden. A few lighting and privacy tweaks would make it flawless, but overall it’s a stunning, luxurious, and truly special place to stay.

Wow! This is perhaps the best hotel in the area. We had a great experience. Rooms were spacious. Service was excellent. They have thought about everything. Amazing views. The peacocks/peahens in the yard is a great sight to see. And the hundreds o pigeon that come to drink by the pool- is just breath taking.||The only room for improvement is the food choices for vegetarians at the restaurant is very limited. Breakfast was fine. They were not able to accommodate our needs for lunch and dinner.

This is a spectacular hotel, carved out of a mountain and the rooms are caves. My room was amazing with a private pool, Turkish Bath, beautiful view overlooking the Hot Air Balloons. The staff was 5 star, my check in was professional by Ecren and Beekay. The bellman had to carry my heavy bag was great Kadir. Beyza with guest relations was also very professional and checked on me many times to make sure I was enjoying my stay. This hotel is very special and I hope to return.

Our stay at the Museum Hotel was truly memorable. The setting is magical — you wake up to hot-air balloons rising across the sky and enjoy sweeping views of the valleys right from your terrace. Breakfast on the patio was one of the highlights of our entire trip — delicious, generous, and beautifully presented with plenty of local touches.||We stayed in Room 200, which had a huge private outdoor space and an incredible view. It was quiet, spacious, and very comfortable — with a bed that felt perfect after long days of exploring. The bathroom amenities were excellent, and I especially appreciated the professional-grade hairdryer (a rare find for anyone with long hair!). Every day after cleaning, the staff left a tray of Turkish Delight, and in the evening, a small homemade treat on the bed at turndown — such a thoughtful touch.||The service throughout was outstanding — warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. The property itself is beautiful, filled with history, charm, and little surprises — from the peacocks wandering the grounds to the turtle garden tucked into the courtyard.||If I had to note one small drawback, the room lighting was a bit dark, and the glass bathroom doors offered little privacy. But those details are minor compared to everything that makes this place extraordinary.||The Museum Hotel is luxurious, full of character, and absolutely unforgettable. It’s one of those places that stays with you long after you’ve left.

The hotel is incredibly beautiful, carved into several levels of hillside rock. The interior is just stunning - with an elegant yet cave-ish vibe to it. Location is superb, Uchisar castle and the town centre are within walking distance, with some good restaurants on the way. The hotel’s own restaurant is very good too, albeit a bit pricey. Breakfasts are opulent, with multiple vegetarian options. Staff are polite and friendly.|But there is just one thing - and it is important enough for it to be 4 circles and not 5 - it’s the pigeons. There are too many of them around the pool/ restaurant area, and one needs to navigate a way around the bird poo all the time. Yes, the staff are meticulously cleaning it all day long - but sorry, it simply doesn’t befit a hotel of this class.

Fantastic hotel. The views are beautiful. Rooms are very unique and not likely to find similar anywhere else. Excellent location tomorrow view and get to the hot air balloon rides. Pool area is small with very few chairs and service by the pool is not great but overall would recommend. Turtles and peacocks are a nice touch as well

Our stay at this hotel was nothing short of extraordinary — from start to finish, every detail was handled with care, discretion, and thoughtfulness. A huge part of this was thanks to Kaan, the guest relations manager, whose dedication and warmth made our experience truly unforgettable.||Long before we arrived, Kaan was already in touch, arranging our excursions, organizing a surprise birthday breakfast, and even securing a professional photographer to capture beautiful moments both at the hotel and nearby. He was proactive, intuitive, and available at any hour — a rare level of service that made everything feel effortless.||Our room was stunning — beautifully designed, perfectly private, and always immaculate. We were consistently offered the best tables for dining both in the hotel and at select restaurants, and we were transported in luxury vehicles with courteous and professional drivers.||The hotel staff were equally impressive — especially the catering team, who remembered our preferences from the first day and made us feel genuinely cared for throughout.||One of the most magical moments was a private dinner Kaan arranged at the hotel’s canyon site: candlelit, accompanied by a live cellist, and set against a breathtaking natural backdrop. It was one of the most romantic and memorable experiences we’ve ever had.||Kaan’s passion for hospitality shines in everything he does. He made our stay exceptional in every way, and he is a true credit to the hotel. We left with full hearts, deep appreciation, and every intention to return.

This is quite a unique hotel as it is located inside caves but the rooms are spacious and comfortable. However, the rooms are assigned names but no room numbers and you have to remember how to get to your room after the staff showed you where it is. As the hotel is located in a cave, there are many steps to get to your room. Even within the room, there are steps to get from the door to the living area and the bathroom. The room is lighted by desk lamps and floor standing lamps only with no overhead lights and so it might be a little dark. Breakfast is full service with mostly Turkish cuisine.

Yelp
We could only afford one night at the Museum Hotel (as it is a little pricey) but it was one of the BEST places we stayed while on our two-month honeymoon. It was SO authentic and so beautiful! It's situated outside of the goreme which is the main area of cappadocia, but this place has all you need and more! First, the view is absolutely AMAZING. It's situated high up so you have a beautiful panoramic view. The design of the ourdoor area is also very beautiful. You can sit there all day and just look at the view. It reminds me almost of a tuscany-esque vibe. The infinity pool is also heated, and so beautiful. Definitely worth it to wake up early and catch the hundreds of balloons at sunrise! The entire hotel is also a museum, and had so many unique features. They have a garden where we saw lots of birds, including many peacocks! They also have a small turtle garden on the grounds. This place has so many things you can explore, and it's absolutely gorgeous and meticulously built. Lastly, as we were celebrating our honeymoon, the museum hotel really went above and beyond. The room we had was SPECTACULAR! It was a multistory cave room that was beyond spacious and beautiful. It was such a unique experience to stay inside a cave hotel. They also had candles, flowers, and champagne waiting for us when we arrived. Museum hotel was definitely the highlight of our entire stay in Turkey, and if I could, I would come back in a heartbeat!

Yelp
I stayed here for 2 nights as part of an excursion to Cappadocia during an extended stopover in Turkey. This is a wonderful boutique cave hotel (part of Relaix & Chateaux) that is truly unique. The property is absolutely stunning, with a combination of cave rooms, restored houses and buildings, and gardens and terraces that exude historical character and charm. I stayed in a junior suite, which was very spacious and comfortable. The cave setting was quite surreal and rather fun, but modern features were also plentiful, including a good rain shower, large soaking tub, and speedy Wi-Fi (although no desk). There was a nice rose garden/patio outside that overlooked the surrounding landscape, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the view. Amenities were generous - a full assortment of L'Occitane toiletries were provided, and I was greeted in my room by a nice fruit plate, some dessert bites, Turkish delights, and an entire bottle of their house wine (excellent, but a bit of a struggle to finish as a solo traveler). The public areas were spectacular, with spacious terraces and a beautiful heated pool, all overlooking the surrounding landscape. True to its name, the hotel features a variety of historical artifacts that are proudly displayed, in addition to plenty of greenery and even doves and peacocks (as well as the playful resident puppy, Joe). Dining options were also great - I had a delicious dinner at Lila, and the expansive buffet breakfast each morning was very enjoyable, especially the custom gözleme station. Service was excellent - every member of the staff was friendly, professional, and genuine. The concierge was also very helpful, booking a hot air balloon ride in advance as well as arranging a nice private day tour of the surrounding sights. The entire experience was simply phenomenal - very surreal and special, and a definite highlight of my time in Turkey.
