"A new exhibit, Street Food City, highlights one of the most important foundations of NYC: its food cart vendors (who are often immigrants) and their dishes that have become synonymous with the city. The show features photographs of food, people, and businesses throughout history alongside their stories, a special video game, and a pushable cart, plus actual food from vendors will be served, rotating. It opened on December 6 with no end date yet." - Nadia Chaudhury
"In partnership with the Museum of Food and Drink, The Africa Center is hosting a Juneteenth celebration to honor and educate the public about the incredible contributions Black chefs, farmers, and food and drink producers have made to American food culture. Join them in East Harlem for free admission to the last day of "African/American: Making the Nation’s Table." There will also be shopping from Harlem-based vendors, Divine Nine Greek strolling, live music, and more. RSVP for free admission and a boxed lunch with Chef Lexis Gonzales." - neha talreja
"The co-editors of An American Girl Anthology are appearing at the museum for a panel titled “Eating Breakfast Like it’s 1774,” featuring co-editors KC Hysmith and Justine Orlovsky-Schnitzler with baker Lauren Dozier (making cookies for the event), who will dig into food history depicted through the toys. The event is adults-only but dolls are welcome; it takes place Thursday, May 22 at the Brooklyn museum. Tickets are $25 for the event and $50 with a copy of the book (entry gets attendees access to the museum’s current exhibit “Flavor”)." - Emma Orlow
"Tonight from 6 to 8:30 p.m., author and baker Bryan Ford will talk to Eric Kim of the New York Times about his new book, Pan y Dulce: The Latin American Baking Book. Tickets include samples of baked goods from the book; it’s $20 for the event and $55 with the book." - Melissa McCart
"If you’re spending more time in your kitchen this week, the Museum of Food and Drink (it exists, you’re welcome) is hosting a virtual discussion and cooking demo featuring chef Zoe Adjonyoh, author of Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen: An Introduction to New African Cuisine – from Ghana with Love. She’ll be joined by Pierre Thiam, the executive chef behind New York’s Teranga, to discuss decolonizing the food industry and bringing West African cuisine to the rest of the world. Following the chat, get a preview of the cookbook with a demo of pan-roasted cod with hibiscus and grains of paradise. Purchase tickets here to receive the recipe before the event." - neha talreja
