Yelp
If you were to look up "hidden gem" in the dictionary, I bet this place would pop right up. Another stop on my Black owned coffee shop tour, and dare I say this one is my favorite. You need to be here, yesterday.
Let's get into it!
Location and Parking
They are located in East Lake on Memorial Drive. Parking is free and next to the building. They do share the space with a few other businesses, but I've never had any trouble getting a spot.
Venue and Atmosphere
The space feels homey, the decor is brown and green and they have the cutest swings at the bar area. There are a couple of TV's throughout, usually on the news or whatever morning talk show is on. There's plenty of plug space if you need to do work, and the WiFi is free for all to use.
There's also the best rotation of soul music playing throughout the shop, which makes the fact that you're eating some down home southern breakfast food all the more special.
Food and drinks
Now I've had multiple things off the menu, and so far there isn't one miss. The salmon croquettes are fried perfectly, and a little bit of hot sauce takes them over the top. The breakfast croissant was buttery and soft, the cheese was melty, and the sausage was amazing. The breakfast platter was perfectly balanced, and the grits were great.
They're most known for their basil lemonade, my partner put me on. Now if basil isn't your thing you're probably not gonna like this. Even as a basil lover I was skeptical at first, but after that first sip my reservations melted away faster than a piece of ice on a Georgia sidewalk in the summertime. The basil balances the sweetness of the lemonade, and what you're left with is a refreshing drink that you're not entirely sure how they came up with it, but baby you sure are glad they did.
I've also had their caramel latte, and as a fake coffee drinker who likes sweetness featuring caffeine, I can appreciate how it's made. I initially asked for extra syrup, but the barista politely told me I wouldn't need it then proceeded to whip me up a cup of sweet goodness.
Service
Service was quick and easy. When you come in you order at the counter then you take a seat, and when your food is ready it's brought out to you. When you're done someone will come and take your plate, and if you need a box (which I have on occasion or two) they'll bring it right to you.
Truly though, my favorite thing about this coffee shop doesn't have anything to do with the food or drinks. It's the fact that when I'm here I feel an overwhelming sense of community. The patrons range from professionals dropping in to get a quick bite for lunch, people walking over from their homes, old friends meeting up for a catch up sessions, and everyone is happy to be there and is guaranteed to leave with a full belly.
Verdict
I've been here multiple times, and I plan on adding more times to that number. If you want a good breakfast, good service, and truly southern feel, this is the place you need to be. Make sure to check them out!
Until next time!
