The 13 Best New Restaurants in Barcelona | Eater

"There’s more to this enterprise than its unsubtle name. Two Italian slow-food devotees are behind the well-designed spot, complete with a dining room-adjacent courtyard for growing fresh herbs. The food mixes the chefs’ Italian heritage with more modernist sensibilities. Try the Parmesan crispy taco and the restaurant’s signature version of the classic patatas bravas, here called “Bravas que querían ser patatas” (bravas that dreamed of becoming chips). They are indeed a dream." - Isabel Conde

Very tasty food served with passion. We hadn't booked, but they were able to accommodate us. I spoke with the super friendly member of staff about what wines I liked, and he recommended an inexpensive tinto that was perfect. Yes, the portion size is small, but it's more Tapas style, we ordered 3 plates each and was perfect for us. Would like to return one day and order the taster menu.

Google
Absolutely one of the top dining experiences in Barcelona — and that’s saying a lot in a city known for incredible food. Everything was on point: the service, the food, the drinks, and the atmosphere all came together perfectly for an unforgettable night out. Highly recommended! 👍🏾👍🏾

My husband and I came here two years ago and were blown away with one of the best meals of our lives. Sadly, our second time there did not live up to that expectation. Two of the courses were quite good -- the oysters and the "taco" which was not a taco at all and very unique. But all together the experience was lack luster for a tasting. Worst of all, the restuarante was understaffed and service became non existent as more tables filled up. I can say however that the drinks we ordered were creative and exceptional. I'd come back but not for the tasting. I'd order indivual plates and drinks and skip the tasting menus. I hope they go back to the standard they used to have. Maybe I came on a bad night (Easter weekend) but I had hoped for much more.

Google
Overall great dining experience. Just as the restaurant name suggested, the chef(s) definitely have a playful approach to food pairing. The dishes were on point with the exception of the shiso (perilla) tacos. The steak tartare filling was actually really good, great knife work producing a great texture. The challenge with shiso is that it is one of those herbs that requires strong guidance or it will take over the dish. It needs a playmate that can take the punch it’s giving or a playmate that can punch back. In this case the steak tartare just couldn’t stand up to the shiso leave. Definitely encourage the chef(s) to continue to play with shiso as it is one of more complex flavor profile out there and many is afraid of it. The octopus was the highlight of the meal.

Google
Spanish tapas with a twist of fusion. Everything was delicious, and the service was impressive. The bbq oysters were to die for! This is one of the best restaurants we went to during our stay in Barcelona, and we just happened to stumble upon it as we were walking. The name of the restaurant had us intrigued, and I am so glad it did.

Google
Our top three restaurants in whole Barcelona! Absolutely freaking amazing, love the service and the oyster, it has to be the best oyster I’ve ever had in Europe!

Jackson Reed

Google
The food was fantastic! We're a family of three, and we ordered the vegetable menu. For our little girl, we chose the rice the dish Luis recommended to us — and she absolutely loved it! We were equally impressed with the vegetarian menu overall. The presentation was beautiful, and the flavor was phenomenal. Even though the place was busy, everything was well explained, and the food exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended!

Google
Such amazing food here and wonderful staff. We loved the green beans, onglet, octopus and pudding.

Yelp
Despite the cheeky branding, this is a pretty serious restaurant with gracious, attentive waiters. We went for the 52 euro, meaty pre-fix menu and really liked it! They have current menus on their instagram. - Gezpacho was as one would expect - For the toast, I appreciated how they had flake-shaped salt on the side - The oysters were pretty straightforward and solid. - Tomato "salad" was creamy and flavorful, interesting - Steak and Salmon tartare were a highlight of the meal - Croquette was really good, a bit elevated from the typical bar food - Grilled Angus was cooked to the perfect amount of rare, which I appreciated - Squid covered in squid ink was probably the most strong flavors of the meaty dishes, which I loved - Moose was sweet how I like it, with a funny presentation all against one side of the plate.

Yelp
This is a late review from my time in Spain, but I felt the need to review it because it was spectacular. It was located super close to one of Gaudi's apartments so we visited there first and it was great! We opted for the tasting menu because why wouldn't you want to try everything! We are so glad we did. One of the highlights that my husband wasn't too thrilled about was the steak tartare. I made him try it even though he's not a fan, but to his surprised it was his favorite thing he had on the menu! I can compare it to something similar to a cheese burger and it was amazing! Our server was very nice and really helpful. We liked where we were seated because we were able to have a conversation and hear one another. Love the space and loved the food. Highly recommend if you are ever in Barcelona!

Yelp
The food was delicious. The atmosphere was very cool. I wound Day that if you have kids or picky eaters in your group, this isn't the right spot. The ossobucco croquettes are amazing.

Yelp
A friend made a reservation for 14 of us and we got the Chefs Table experience, downstairs next to the kitchen. We got the royal treatment and it was an amazing experience. Our server was top notch. She explained the process and we all decided to go for the food and wine pairings option. The food was unbelievably delicious. I tried squid, beef tartare and oysters for the first time. The wine pairings were perfect. Our server was extremely knowledgeable on both the food and the wine. She was very engaging and fun. After, she even took us down the street to show off another one of their restaurants! It was an amazing evening and I HIGHLY recommend it!

Yelp
When we saw the name of this restaurant on the map we knew we had to go by to at least get a selfie in front of it. As we started to read about it we knew we had to eat there. They did not disappoint! The atmosphere is fun. We ate at the bar because it was what was available on short notice, but we were able to tour the other rooms before they opened. The atmosphere in the bar was casual with everyone chatting between groups/parties, comparing and recommending dishes. The living room is an intimate dining room with maybe a dozen tables that overlooks the tiny garden behind where they grow some of their own vegetables for their dishes. The chef's room has a nice view of the kitchen for an intimate "show-kitchen" feel. The staff all were amazing, incredibly helpful and friendly. But the star of the place definitely is the food. Everything we had was amazing. We cannot say enough about the gluten free bread and cous cous were, which indistinguishable from their glutenous counterparts. The angus steak with smoked rosemary was beautifully presented and tasted great. While we thought the name was just for attention, which it does, the backstory is that when the owner/chef worked the kitchens of other chef's and were told to cut corners on the food,, he would think "When I open my fucking restaurant..". So when he went out on his own, he opened "My Fucking Restaurant". We're glad he did and definitely will be back if we ever make it back to Barcelona. Until then we recommend it to all our friends.

Yelp
For the price the service was not good neither was the food for the price. The menu was confusing and the ambiance was just subpar. Much better restaurant elsewhere with a more reasonable price. Don't waste your time or money here! Only the title of the restaurant is spot on!

Yelp
Gluten Free Restaurant with pretty innovative menus . Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The food honestly is mostly not really my taste. Coffee is good. Prices high.

David L.

Yelp
Just a disaster. To keep it real, it was New Year's Eve, but my lord, it was nothing less than horrible. Where do I start? So, it's a tasting menu. Who serves two courses of oysters--warm-- on the half shell? Then, an endive that was slathered in a pungent sauce. Huh? Then a weird fish appetizer that was okay. Main course? Uncooked chicken. Bloody and cold in the middle. We gave up complaining. Dessert came. A truly disgusting ginger thing thrown haphazardly into a mason jar. The next table improvised a game where for each round, the loser had to eat a spoonful; I am not kidding. The chocolate mousse at the end was weird. The staff was noticeably and understandably embarrassed and ashamed. They were in the weeds from the get-go. So, ok, your fucking restaurant and you can fucking keep it.

Yelp
I'll admit we were intrigued by the name but saw the good reviews and figured why not. We loved this spot, we made a reservation online (recommend) and sat at the bar, which was just the right amount of people. Waiter was excellent and talked through dishes very well. Liked the tasting menu style and the cocktail I had was lovely. Would recommend to locals or tourists.
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
To be fair, we did not eat here. And that's because we went by the restaurant to update our reservation a few hours beforehand. When we saw the place we canceled. We were walking from the new Nobu Hotel -- quite a distance. The neighborhood was not great, and the restaurant was tiny and faced a cheap souvenir shop and someone's laundry hanging. The metal garage door was closed so we couldn't see in. But the smoke shop and the ghetto vibe completely turned us off. I can't believe this place came up as one of the top ten restaurants in Barcelona. What is wrong with the algorithm?

Yelp
This is a really good restaurant, taste wise, price wise and location wise. We came here for lunch without a reservation but the bar counter seats were empty and we were the only ones there. The seats were quite comfortable and the table height was perfect. We tried pork, burrata cheese, fish, beef and dessert, and they were all so good. Please look at the photos and you will see what I mean. I highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Dennis B.

Yelp
Fantastic service, super cool vibe and the food was excellent! If I'm splitting hairs the steak was a bit under and we were not asked how we preferred it but it was damn good regardless!! Well Done!

Yelp
This restaurant is tailored to the American tourists. Rarely you will see a local eating there. When we got there, without reservations, initially they told us that all the tables were booked out. Then, I guess they noticed that we also spoke English and gave us a table. Food was good but it is more a 3.5 experience. Nothing out of the ordinary. This place offers experiences, minimum 2 people. Expect to spend at least 50$ per person, that is if you don't drink alcohol. Some of the dishes like the potatoes or croquetas were blunt. Desserts more towards the low end of quality. Last but not least I wanted to give our recommendations ( Nothing to do with the restaurant). This place is close to La Rambla. Many pickpocket people around this restaurant, especially at night. Be careful. We went to this restaurant at night and they almost pickpocketed my wife's purse. Thank God Nothing happened. I'm sure they know that many Americans leave that place and want to try to steal their money and other valuables.

Robin R.

Yelp
Everything from start to finish was amazing. The food, the service, the wine, the ambience I highly recommend it.

Yelp
This place was, to use their phrasing, fucking amazing. I've been to Michelin Star restaurants around the world, and this place is now cemented in my top 10. We opted for the 38€ tapas selection (menu in photos). Favorites were the porchetta taco (best porchetta I've ever tasted in a lettuce wrap with a mustard sauce), osso buco croqueta (fried crispy with a lemon-herb gremolata), steak tartare sandwich (perfectly seasoned tartare in a crispy bun), and hangar steak served over hand-torched herbs (the most flavorful and perfectly tender hangar I've ever had). Server was informative and knowledgeable, they poured a really good cocktail, and we spent less than 100€ for a fantastic dinner, dessert, and 2 cocktails each. A perfect night.

Yelp
This is the second time visiting this restaurant. Let me start by stating that the food is very good, and it's a good value for a tasting menu by New York City standards (49 Euro). This restaurant has two floors and a bar. During our visit last night, there were three people serving all of the customers. These three people served as the host for seating, provided wait services, bar tending, cleaning and resetting of the tables, etc. It would be an understatement to say that this restaurant was grossly understaffed. The other "ding" is that you can choose one of maybe nine cocktails. Even though they have all of the ingredients to make a wide array of cocktails, we were told that management prohibits them from making anything other than the nine cocktails that they have on the menu. I ordered something that the waiter/busboy/host/bartender insisted that it "taste just like a Negroni", and it did not. It tasted like Campari. When I told the staff member that it tasted wrong and needed to be fixed, it was brought back to me and I was told that they are not allowed to put more gin into a drink so they added more Campari. Awful. Additionally, they forgot one of our dishes. When we mentioned it to him, he told us, "You didn't get that?...Let me check". We never heard, "I'm sorry...I'll get that for you." Lastly, the service is NOT tasting menu service. They do not change your plates or cutlery between services. They do not explain all of the dishes as you would expect when eating off of a tasting menu. They don't even take away the dirty plates...they are left piled up. I didn't get a sense that they were empowered to fix "easy to fix" problems like you would expect with a tasting menu. To be fair, the two staffers that served us were lovely, but they were un-empowered to fix "easy to fix" problems, and they were grossly understaffed. We loved it the first time we went years ago, but we are unlikely to go back.

Yelp
The service was rude The ambiance was "who let you in" The risotto was bland The steak was almost raw, and 2 of the 5 peices were gristle that ended up in my napkin. And now I have food poisoning.
google avatar

Corey L.

Yelp
Clearly some shock value with the name - took some clients and friends here (with a good sense of humor and adventurous spirit) and had an awesome experience! Chef's Table with a view of the busy kitchen. Great, attentive service and excellent, creative tasting menu! Also a great wine pairing. Incredible to learn the entire menu is gluten-free (even the tasty bread!).
google avatar

Elisa P.

Yelp
The service was solid. We didn't catch his name, but the waiter with the rad tats, curly blond hair, and the man bun is the man! Great attention to detail, super engaging, and the true star of the evening. The ambiance is cool and the restaurant as a whole very well curated. Going with the restaurant's name theme... The food was pretty but didn't quite know how to f@#k. Several dishes in the tasting menu were bland or very unbalanced (zucchini, beets, and seaweed dishes come to mind). Also, what's the deal with the watercress? It overpowered otherwise delicious dishes (the watermelon would have been amazing). I'd give the food an overall 3.5 but the wine pairing (we got the menu) was abysmal. I wanted to love this place. Maybe late resy on a Sunday night isn't when you come here... maybe try it at a different time.

Yelp
Great food/tapas and wine ! Service is exceptional ! Service is on point. Anyone traveling to Spain must stop here. Super fresh food. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming

Yelp
Great little spot and the service was great! We loved all the menu options. Give it a try next time you're in Barcelona.

Yelp
We went to this restaurant because of it's interesting name. The atmosphere was great! And amazing creative delicious feast!
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
It's been a month since we dined here and we are still talking about it. By far our best meal while in Barcelona for our honeymoon. The service was impeccable and the different take on each dish was not only interesting but more importantly delicious!!! I cannot wait to visit Barcelona just so we can eat here again. Try everything!! I wish we had. I don't normally eat a lot so we didn't splurge on the tasting menu, but I plan to next time. I may have to fast all day in order to consume it but f the diet! Literally. If you are visiting, work a reservation here into your agenda...you will NOT regret it.
google avatar

Nancy B.

Yelp
Lovely ambiance. English-speaking staff. Rounding up to 4 star for nice, attentive staff but it was overall 3. Made reservation to sit at the bar, it was half-filled upon arrival but was told it was fully booked so we were sat in the cozy dining area. Mixed drinks were tasty but very small, 2 large ice cubes were in the glass to give the appearance that they were proper size. So, expensive cocktails at 12 euro each. Opted to do the a la carte menu but servers pushed the 35 euro fucking diet menu. Most tapas were bland in flavor profile but more creative than other tapas restaurants. The sourdough bread with smoked butter was insanely delicious.
google avatar

Mak C.

Yelp
Dynamite Creativity in food and great service 45€ for 8 course meal was amazing Must make reservation they only have about 8 tables so they are focused on quality over quantity Quality of ingredients are 100% top. Hard to believe everything is gluten free Celery root Alfredo, sounds strange but Amazing Presentation amazing Sauces amazing Oysters amazing If you like your steak more cooked let them know, comes out pretty rare
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
I have a knack for finding restaurants with unique names and this one is definitely that. Hubby and I gave this one a go on a recent trip to Barcelona. Definitely make reservations. First we took a taxi to the restaurant and thought that the driver brought us to an alleyway that was dark and a little scary. We ordered the €45 sampling menu which had a ton of different foods to try. The wait staff explained each dish when they brought it out because there were many foods that we had never tried. We enjoyed most of the dishes, and the ones that we did not were due to differences in palettes. Great experience for sure.
google avatar

J L.

Yelp
Fucking Excellent. Fucking Amazing. This place is on it's way to a Michelin star. Tasting menu is outstanding and reasonable at 39 euros (as of summer 2023). Went there because of the name and reviews, and so glad I did.
google avatar

Nick A.

Yelp
I'm not gonna lie the 44yr old immature kid in me wanted to go here just because of the name. All the good reviews on yelp sealed the deal though, and we were not disappointed. We opted for the FMD tasting menu (the D is diet, you can figure out the rest ;) . Everything was cooked perfectly and the staff was awesome. This is more of a tourist place (Not really a local spot im guessing) and all the staff spoke English and were very friendly. Overall a very good place to grab dinner. I would recommend getting a reservation as the establishment is not very large and gets busy.
google avatar

Jose P.

Yelp
Interesting but really not a good epicurean restaurant food was average at best with a couple of huge misses like the tomato risotto was overcooked and mediocre in the taste department We where disappointed as we've riveted it to be the highlight of the dinner The restaurant is way over priced for the portions and quality Service was slow but acceptable but not warm or helpful I would not suggest visiting this place The name draws you in but the price and food are marginal Not a place I suggest in Barcelona This city had magnificent food this is not one of the places that you will remember as a highlight it's more like a lowlight of an overpriced tourist trap

Nora H.

Yelp
Loved the tasting menu, so good I even told me friends to go! We sat in the private basement and the chefs table and had such a lovely time. Wonderful service.

Chris D.

Yelp
Ok I hate doing this. I know how tough this business is. I just felt I had to warn others that are expecting a great foodie experience. The food is so so. Presentation is decent, but the flavors aren't there. Ten courses, and not one wowed us. Some were good, most were at best average. Not one was up to the expectations a chef driven concept brings. We were very disappointed. My guess is that it was once good, but whoever the chef was left a while ago. I think really the only thing this has going for it that stands out is the name. Sorry guys. but your doing a disservice to clients unless you bring in a talent that can improve your food.
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
This was one of my top meals in Barcelona. I went to eat by myself at the bar and it was a wonderful experience! I made friends with a group of Canadians next to me. I had a small assortment of Spanish tapas as well as a glass of sangria. The burrata was EXCELLENT. I wish I could have it here at home in Texas! I still think about how flavorful it was with the Iberian ham and dates to this day. I tried to go again later in the week solo, but it was completely booked (such a bummer). Probably worth checking to see if they do reservations or going early to make sure you can get a spot. Loved it!

Ken W.

Yelp
Won't go to a place named like this. Don't know if the owner doesn't speak English and doesn't get it, but maybe he should find out before he names his restaurant this. The reviews talk about everyone there is arrogant. The name says it all!
google avatar

Lydia R.

Yelp
Mainly Hype - The food was ok. It was great to try something different. But it was a little over priced.
google avatar

Barbara R.

Yelp
While staying at Le Meredien, I decided to eat healthy for me....which is gluten free. This restaurant came up under multiple searches...nearby, top rated and gluten free. All I can say is GO NOW. If you think gluten free means simply corn and rice filled things instead of wheat....think again. Don't hesitate to try it out. I forgot to take a picture of the black angus steak. So flavorful and was too full to eat anymore, but had for breakfast this morning!!! They finish cooking with a torch in front of you. Comes with an aioli type sauce, but honestly so good on its own I don't think it needed it. The unfiltered cold sake was a great fit for the tasting menu. It had strong citrus overtones, have not tasted sake like that before, but enjoyed it. I was alone, sat at the bar when they opened, which was perfect because they were booked through to almost midnight. Both servers/ bartenders were friendly, welcoming and energetic! The other patrons were regulars and glad I was able to talk with them as well. My advice....sell tshirts with your web address! You will make a killing. I didn't go past the bar, but apparently there is a dining area beyond!

Robert S.

Yelp
Food was great except prawns were fishy garbage smelling and tasting. Service was great Ambiance fitting for the restaurant
google avatar

Carlos R.

Yelp
What a place... great service with a very interesting culinary options. From appetizers to the tapas it's really good. I would have more wine alternatives but it is an experience well recommended

Lauryn D.

Yelp
I am GF, and my husband is not. We both agreed this was the BEST all Gf experience and food we had between our month travel in Portugal and Spain. Highly recommend !!
google avatar

Peter C.

Yelp
We came here with friends who were visiting from New York City and had a great dinner. We had been here before and liked that the menu had changed and that the restaurant is gluten free since two of the people at our table have a gluten allergy. The whole tasting menu was great and unique. The steak tartare was my favorite along with the steak at the end. Their wine list is really good, my only suggestion is that there were some wines listed from Burgundy which on the menu were listed as 2018 but they only had 2020. Not a huge deal as both bottles were still good. Overall great experience and would come back again. Our server was also great and super patient as we took a bit of time to order since we all hadn't seen each other in some time and were catching up.
google avatar

Wesley W.

Yelp
With so many tapas in Barcelona, the owners came up with a unique name to set them a part. It worked. This tapa place was very busy. We ordered mixed fish, steak tartar, Norma pasta, and mussels. Steak Tartar - 3.5/5 Presentation was nice. The steak was on Metal skewers and came on a grill platter partially browned. The meat was tasty but could've been improved with real charcoal. Slight taste of starter fuel was evident, but did not take away from the experience. Mixed fish - 2/5 The mixed fish was actually a misnomer. The basket consisted of whole sardine, shrimp, and calamari. The mixed concoction was lightly breaded, slightly seasoned, and tasted average at best. I would not order again. Norma Pasta - 3/5 The Norma pasta was average compared to other restaurants that I've tried at in Spain. The pasta sauce was more on the tart side. The pasta was soft, more softer than it should be. Mussels- 3/5 The mussels were cooked just right. Not over cooked where the mussel is hard. It needed more seasoning like more garlic and a little more salt. Service was a little slow. Our server did not come by at all except to bring our food. MFR has a unique name that will raise the curiosity of food searches. The food was average compared to the other Tapa eateries we ate at. I cannot make any recommendation for MFR. Read the other reviews and decide for your self.
google avatar

Kathy V.

Yelp
Was referred to try out this place. Overall, everything was good, but not sure if I would rave about this place. We ordered the 45 prefix meal for 3 and were confused on how they portioned the meal as we received two plates for each dish. Think it was combined somehow, but wasn't sure on the flow for that. Cool to try, but would I come back? Probably not
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
This place was AMAZING. hands down. Super innovative tapas and the most courteous and professional service. I am only mad that I ate lunch because I wanted to have more of these tapas. Next time I'm in BCN I'm not eating all day to try the whole menu!

Yelp
We really wanted to like this restaurant & based on the reviews thought we would. We got the price-fixed menu. Servers were overwhelmed & we were unable to pair our wines. 4 courses delivered at once. The sweet potato thing was so overly complicated & weird it was gross (and we really do eat everything) & the omelette was cool and runny & inedible. The server asked how everything was even though we didn't touch them after the initial bites. It was very busy. Im simply baffled given the sheer number of excellent food options available in Barcelona, which is why MFR gets 1-star even though a few courses were good.
google avatar

Jim K.

Yelp
The reviews and pics tell the perfect story. Excellent service, lovely wine list and amazing food. Go with an appetite and eat lots of different food.

Andrew R.

Yelp
Great service and good experience in Barcelona, the name draws you in but the food will make you want to come back.

Yelp
I can't say enough how much I loved this restaurant. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The food was incredible. Try the steak tartar! You will not be disappointed. Also the raw oysters and the poached oysters were both delicious! Our server was so helpful in guiding me through wine selection and cocktail selection. The ambiance is cool and laid back and the service was amazing.

Yelp
I can honestly say this was one of the greatest meals of my life! My family and I decided to go "all in" and instead of ordering ala carte off the menu we decided to go for the upgraded chef's tasting menu selection...one of the all-time great decisions we've ever made! Including the palette cleanser and after dinner liquor, there was a total of 16 tastings spread across 3 courses. It was a true extravaganza of gastronomical delights in both presentation and flavors. We had cured meats, burotta, Catalan tomato bread, eggplant tacos, super-crispy patatas bravas, lemon-escenced shredded beef balls, smoked Argentine flank steak, egg souffle, steamed mussels, whole fried crab, truffles, etc. Our waiter asked us a series of questions (at the start) in order to hone-in our our likes and dislikes when it comes to items for cooking with. The wine choices he offered paired well with the dishes we chose making for a festive meal experience. We lingered, we laughed, we indulged...again and again. Thanks for making such a memorable evening for me, my wife and girls. We will never forget it!

Yelp
If I could give 6 stars I would. Tasting menu paired w wine - perfecto. Service was over the top fantastic!
