"Hyde Park bakery My Grandma’s of New England is famous for its coffee cakes, which have gained popularity to the extent of being mentioned in TV shows such as The Sopranos. The bakery was originally founded in Newton 42 years ago and was moved to Hyde Park in 1997 by current owner Bob Katz. The bakery operates a mail-order business and supplies cakes to local grocery stores like Stop & Shop and Shaw’s. It is expected to sell over one million cakes this year." - Erika Adams

Do yourself a favor and order these cakes! I recently went through the ordering process for 27 cakes as gifts and it has been an absolute pleasure working with customer service and every team member I’ve met. I specifically worked with Vic and LaTonya- and they both were fantastic when helping me. After calling in I was connected with Vic and was able to start the ordering process right away feeling reassured and having all my questions answered. 5 stars, 10 out 10, I will absolutely be ordering from you again. This experience has been a breath of fresh air in the sea of mediocre customer service out there, and compliments to all! Bonus points for the product being so delicious, I am so excited for everyone to try these amazing cakes!

Google
Recent addition to our local grocery store and we could not be more thrilled. This cake is dynamite! Huge hit with all

We ordered 2 of the original walnut coffee cakes for the holidays. They did not dissapoint! After all these years still delicious. Our first order was well over 20 years ago and the coffee cake is still just as good. So VERY moist. Robin was a gem when I had to add to my online order. Bonus was when coffee cakes arrived earlier than promised. So sincerely thankful for such a flawless experience.

Google
Received this cinnamon coffee cake as a gift from my Morgan Stanley financial advisor so I was expecting it to be good. However, it was not good, but GREAT. Seriously, this is the best coffee cake I have had in my 62 years of life. I especially loved that it was neither overly sweet nor overly spiced or nutted. Usually, I tend to think more is good, but this amazing tasty cake has lightly sprinkled cinnamon sugar and only a thin line of nut cinnamon swirl. Absolutely perfect.

Really love however if buying elseware beware I bought mine @ stop & shop…..this is why— a few months ago I had gotten food poisoning after eating this - didn’t think much of it purchased another yesterday also at stop & shop today when I decided to open & eat just in case I checked the date there was no expiration stamp the box was there just no stamp in it there was a sticker from the bake shop that said Jan 20th though.. upon visual inspection the entire middle had started to grow mold.. has me thinking (since I am allergic to mold) that the same thing may have happened a few months ago & I didn’t notice.. either way not the fault of the company the cakes are fabulous just be sure to check your food if your buying elsewear!

Google
I have ordered dozens of these and they are delicious HOWEVER several have been dry as cardboard. One was crushed but not the box just the cake. I just got one today and again DRY. How can this be. Please answer me. I did order from QVC and called once and got a credit. Love them but AFRAID to order again for the high price.

Google
These are the best coffee cakes that I've ever had! So moist and flavorful and definitely worth every penny! I love supporting family businesses like My Grandma's, and highly recommend trying them! I've tried the cinnamon no nut, and I am waiting for the chocolate coconut to arrive so I can try that one!

Google
Found out about these cakes on QVC and and they are the best I've ever eaten in my 60 years on this planet! Ordered the blueberry and it came with the banana as a package deal. The blueberry was delicious and so moist!!!!! Not a fan of bananas but my son loved it! Ordered more and they were on back order which took awhile but worth every minute. Order yours and learn what you have been missing in a coffeecake!

Yelp
I'm often somewhat skeptical of two things: bakery products and mail-order food, sometimes to the point of being "allergic" to them. Especially when advertised as "world's best" of similar flattering words. Recently I was gifted a Grandma's of New England Coffee Cake. It was a thoughtful gift and I managed to overcome my "allergy" mostly because it was well-packaged and actually looked good. My initial reaction to cutting was to note that it was fresh and moist. There seemed to be a well-balanced amount of cinnamon and nuts too. I have to be honest, though, I was not bowled over by the flavor when eating the first slice. It was good but not great. The next day, after the cake was sitting on the counter overnight, unwrapped and enclosed in the box, I had a second piece and it was FANTASTIC. Not sure what made the difference but all of the sudden I understood the "world's best" advertising. I do have two concerns, though, which would not stop me from eating this product but does make me scratch my head. One is that the box had no "use by" or "produced on" date. There were several instructions about how long it could be kept under differing conditions but no date from which to compute "best storage". The other is that there seems to be an awful lot of emulsifiers, etc, with chemical-like names in the ingredients list. I'm sure they contributed to the delightful texture and probably to the product longevity, but for something advertised as having no this, that, or the other thing I really had to wonder. All-in-all, though... a good product from a very intriguing company.

Yelp
Stemming from a cinnamon walnut coffee cake in the 90's this spot has continued to rise in the ranks of the pastry gods. Hands down the best coffee cake I've had in my life. Family owned and operated, these guys work to ship out an absurd number of cakes. The wafting scents will stick with you for months afterwards. Hand mixed, the rack ovens stay full and they even offer pre sliced versions and mini cakes. Order some ASAP. Shoutout to Will, Vinny & the entire staff! Thank me later, follow me now, stay eatin' bruh!

Yelp
You've had the rest, now try the best! You'll go "nuts" for My Grandma's of New England cakes, especially the signature cinnamon walnut streusel!! Yes... there are other coffee cakes out there, but no one can top theirs! Speaking of toppings, they put tons of walnuts and cinnamon crunch on their coffee cakes and even in the middle with a magnificent swirl. And, if your allergic, they sell cakes without nuts. I first found these cakes when visiting family In Massachusetts. They were the most delicious coffee cakes I'd ever had! The moist, bourbon vanilla, buttery batter sent my mouth soaring! Mmmm, I'm addicted! I brought back a dozen cakes to give to my family as gifts back in Virginia. They were thrilled! Then, whenever I'd go to New England, I'd get orders to bring back! That's when we began ordering our cakes online! They ship everywhere! And the flavors offered fit everyone's taste! The Cape Cod cranberry, the lemon poppyseed, the chocolate chip, the marble, the New England blueberry, the banana walnut, the Granny Smith Apple, pineapple coconut, pumpkin spice and more!! These cakes became a staple in our house! When the company grew, they started carrying these delectable cakes in stores!! Now I can just go to one of the local markets and get my Grandma's fix!! They make the perfect hostess gifts for special occasions, business meetings, and dinner parties, and of course for brunch!! Of all the coffee cakes out there, I swear on my grandma's grave, this one is the best! Fork yeah!!

Yelp
Not worth the extra money. They use the wrong plastic bag on the cakes. If you want a garbage bag taste order from here. Disgusting. Even for a fundraiser!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
PLANE TIPS: I bought a coffee cake as a gift for some family, and I packed it in my carry-on luggage. Here's what I learned: The cake travels very well and is an excellent thing to bring on a long flight. But pack it on the top of your carry-on because my suitcase got flagged by TSA. Turns out, the cake was so dense they needed to take it out and swab the box. It was a pain to repack it in the middle of security. My family loved that I brought them a Boston cake, it was a treat. It was a good gift. Everyone said it was good, VERY sweet, and the best coffee cake they've ever had. But it wasn't the best *cake they've ever had. Do I need to bring another one next time? Naw. 5 stars because I have no regrets and would recommend.

Yelp
I have ordered several times and always have one in my freezer to serve. Delicious. They have an easy to use website with several cake options.

Sho R.

Yelp
I bought a coffee cake through Walmart.com. Cake was good. Walnuts gave a nice crunch to it. The only thing I didn't like was that the first ingredient of the cake was sugar. That means sugar is the predominant ingredient. But there was no other sugary ingredients like corn syrup or maltodextrose.

Yelp
I picked up a classic walnut cinnamon small whole coffee cake when I walked by the factory this morning. It's delicious. Also a ton of calories but worth getting it and sharing the calories. Super moist, tasty, sweet, fresh, and delicious. I can't comment on some of the mail order issues that people had, but the lady who helped me was very friendly. Also, only $13 for a small cake and $18 for a large if you pick it up directly! I believe you can also find them at the supermarket, though I don't remember which chain I saw them at.

Yelp
Using My Grandma's website, I ordered a coffee cake of the month gift for my dad ($399) as a Christmas gift in Early December. This was the second year I ordered because my dad loved the coffee cakes. The next morning My Grandma's called me to say they no longer sell the coffee cake of the month (even though it was on their website and they charged my credit card). I said okay and asked that they refund my card. THEY NEVER DID. I had to dispute it with my credit card, and I'm not sure they ever responded to the dispute either. They had until Feb 11 to respond. I finally got a notice yesterday that the dispute was resolved in my favor, and I think it's because My Grandma's just never responded. To summarize: My Grandma will take money, admit that they won't provide the product, but NEVER give a refund.

Yelp
I have driven by this place for YEARS... and knew the place was there but never really knew what they made... so then I have a friend who works at another Bakery that does business with them & he told me to try their Coffee Cake.. So Christmas was here & what better time to go get some cake... I purchased a Large Cinnamon w/ No Nuts (which Im kinda bummed about as I LOVVEEE Nuts, the Hubbie doesnt) and a Small Blueberry... they also had some minis there I grabbed a pumpkin & a Lemon Poppy OMG - I opened for Christmas Morning... The blueberry - Might be the best cake thing I ever ate, it was so moist & buttery*ish (yes its a word), There was a slight crunch to the outer layer but soo moist & just good!! I havent opened the Cinnamon yet but will update if needed, I just imagine it will be just as delicious. The Customer store is about the size of a large Bathroom. Its essentially just a wooden table at the front door with a register and some cakes on it. Super Tiny but thats all you need, the cake & the place to pay for it. Parking lot is small as well but there are several customer spots. Its in the middle of nowhere down the end of Hyde Park Ave, DEF worth a visit - Go check them out!

Yelp
I ordered a cake for me and a friend had shipped to us and tye note that was spose to be in my friends from me was not there also I vet my recite threw email after its delivered to find out I payed over 80 dollars for the 2 small coffee cakes when she took my oder she did not tell me I was paying ove 30 dollars for shipping these 1lb cakes so I payed as much for shipping as I did the cakes and on top of tgat when I called them thinking it had to be a mistake well the attitude the first lady had was just crazy and she had nothing to say nice about the whole problem so I asked for the owner I left a message he didn't call me back but someone named effie did who took my oder in the first place I told her she should have told me the shipping was going to cost me that she said with a very bad attitude she did I said no im sorry I would not have went threw with it she said I told u and I said so now ur calling me a lier because I know u didn't she went on with her attitude and I hung up u may have got me once but not again how they stay in business doing this kind of stuff but most of all the attitude I got from both ladies was enough for me to never oder again and the owner I left him a message I gess is ok with it all because he never called me back im just blown away all this because I seen it on 25 words or less and they said great coffee cakes so I thought I give it a try and the cake was good but not worth shipping prices and the treatment u receive from the workers and the lady effie said she was the office manager all I can say is WOW

Yelp
This company may make great coffee cakes but their customer service is terrible. A friend ordered a coffee cake for me and the UPS label had My Grandma's name and address on it as the shipper. Unfortunately when the cake arrived about 1/3 of it had crumbled. I'm sure it might taste ok but I certainly couldn't serve it. I didn't want to let my friend know there was a problem with her gift, so I called the company and gave them the order number. I was told it had been purchased at a grocery store and was told therefore they had no responsibility for its condition. I repeatedly asked why, if that was true, the UPS label had their name and address on it if it had actually been shipped by a grocery store. My friend does not live in New England. The customer representative had no interest in solving the problem. So I had to notify my friend that the cake was defective. Since she had the receipt from her online purchase directly from My Grandma's, when she called them they agreed to ship a replacement. Ruined my enjoyment tho. So just know, if you do buy their cake from another vendor ( not the case here) they do not stand behind their product.

Yelp
Oh dear! Wish I would've read the reviews before ordering for my clients. Received a blueberry cake from my mother (probably the best I've had EVER) so I ordered cakes for Christmas (one order on the 10th and one on the 13th). Called the rep and she said bluntly I shouldn't expect by Christmas even though the expected ship date has the 16th with 4-5 days for delivery. Guess I'll go elsewhere next time.

Caren D.

Yelp
Received a tower of goodies for Christmas. This was this morning. The pumpkin coffee cake went bad

David K.

Yelp
Best coffee cake that you'll ever! You can eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert!

Margaret D.

Yelp
I don't eat coffee cake. I don't drink coffee. But when this beautiful cinnamon walnut coffee cake landed on my boyfriend's doorstep, it seemed just too serendipitous to let it go to waste. We called My Grandma's to tell them the cake must have been sent to an outdated address for the intended Mr. and Mrs., and they called back the next morning with the instructions to open and enjoy. Needless to say the knife was out within seconds of the phone call ending- we didn't need to be told twice! I could smell the wafts of fragrant cinnamon through the sealed plastic even before we cracked it open. The top was browned and sprinkled with walnuts, winking at us to indulge. Indulge we did! It was impossibly moist, not too sweet, punctuated with just the right amount of cinnamon and just the right amount of walnut. Next time I meet someone who loves coffee cake, I need not wonder where to go. We live in DC and the cake was delivered thru Fedex and was as fresh as can be!

Diane S.

Yelp
We bought the cinnamon coffee cake and the blueberry coffee cake frozen from the Chop Shop in Bradenton, Fl. Both have the flavor of being in a box for several months. We will not waste money on them again.

Yvonne A.

Yelp
Ordered 3 cakes from my nieces fundraiser. I recognized the name from years ago. BJ's sold the cinnamon walnut yrs ago. I ordered the Ted Williams, Red White & blueberry & pineapple coconut. We only opened the TW first. It was amazing. Moist and wonderful combo of the choc chips and nuts. I actually hunted down the website so we can keep a supply. Can't honestly speak to their shipping yet but the cakes are worth it.

Tara J.

Yelp
I ordered the Banana Walnut cake without nuts but somehow that did not go through and I received the cake with nuts. I called the day I received the cake and had to leave a message as no one was there at 3 pm to answer the phone. Kathy (customer service) called back to tell me that I ordered it with nuts even though I know I didn't. Kathy is rude but Kathy knows better than the customer. Now I'm stuck with a cake I don't want to throw away and she didn't offer to replace the cake. Bad customer service and the cake isn't that great- I've tried my neighbors. If you order without the nuts beware that the confirmation is suppose to say that - I didn't know and even if I had made the mistake and caught it there is no way to cancel.

Vivian L.

Yelp
If you are ordering a cake online, please do not believe the ship date they claim to be a ship date on their web site. They are trying to push orders out ahead of time but the results is my recipients are all going to have a stale cake for the holidays !

Marty A.

Yelp
The actual cake looks nothing like the picture shown on the box. The cake does not look appealing at all. Taste is just okay.

Seancito X.

Yelp
We were shipped two cakes as a gift for the holidays (the cinnamon walnut and the Granny Smith apple). The gift was a total surprise and having survived the fruitcake laden 70's and 80's we tend to see all "mail cakes" as suspect. We gingerly negotiated two tiny slivers in order to say we tried it and we were pleasantly surprised! The cake was moist, flavorful and rich. I immediately detected a buttery flavor which started to get on my nerves after awhile... granted the cake had only been unpackaged for 15 minutes and I was on my 3rd piece (or chunk) with about 40% of the 8" granny apple being gone. The next day I was able to approach this with a little more restraint and actually took the time to heat a piece in the toaster oven. This is where this coffee cake really went to the next level. That buttery taste (which was probably butter) went away and the whole cake seem to meld. The crumbles on top even got better. This is definitely a great gift to send and they come with their own freezer bag so you can keep them for up to 12 months if you can stand not to eat them for that long. .

Sharon N.

Yelp
Right now I have almost $550.00 worth of coffee cakes...sitting in the Dallas Airport...UPS 2nd Day Air is worthless... Grandma's is useless...and I learned an expensive lesson... DO NOT count on either... Grandma's did NOT ship when they claimed they would....and UPS ??? who knows how they were going from Mass. to SE Florida...ended up in DALLAS???

R S.

Yelp
Bought a couple of the Cinnamon Coffee Cake's at the Stop and Shop because I needed something and the usual stuff for less money was sold out. I noticed that the "Best if Used by" box was empty, not lightly printed, just flat out no date, but I needed food. Got home and opened the box to find a promotional flyer with offers that had expired long ago. How old is this coffee cake? What do you have to do to a coffee cake to keep it edible for months? The box claims no artificial preservatives, but boy are there a pile of nasty sounding stuff on the ingredient list. I'll pass on Grandma's in the future.

Emily P.

Yelp
Excellent customer service! I ordered long-distance on the website. When there was a delay in fulfilling the order in time for my father's 98th birthday, they called me and agreed to deliver two small cakes that arrived the day of his birthday. Thank you for helping to make my father's birthday extra special.

Helen Y.

Yelp
Warning-if you get one as a gift and don't want to gain weight, re-gift it immediately. Hating coffee cake, I thought I'd share my gift with family but Icepocalypse and work changed my travel plans. So I decided to try a sliver in the meantime, which became a piece, then a wedge... Because my chocolate chip coffee cake lacked the overly sweet crumb and the abundance of cinnamon that I detest. Rather it was extremely moist, with a velvety mouth feel and absolutely delicious. The walnuts and chocolate chips added a nice crunch. It gets worse for dieters because this cake goes down deceptively light. It's a prepackaged mail order cake that has no artificial color, flavors, preservatives or trans fat, which was the deciding factor in my even trying it in the first place. Yelper Dale R. said the cakes have Crisco. They don't use shortening because I read ALL the ingredients. It's the sour cream and oil that keeps the cake moist. But because I bake from scratch, I did have to subtract one star for the emulsifiers but I gave them back one star because this may seriously the only coffee cake I will eat.

K D.

Yelp
Received a cinnamon walnut cake as a gift, but there was a problem with it , so I called My Grandma's to let them know. They promptly offered to replace the cake, telling me "all our cakes are guaranteed." They gave me a choice of same cake or a different one, and listed the options. I chose the red/white/blue (cranberry-blueberry) and it arrived a few days later. (Delicious!) Now that's excellent Customer Service. Thanks, My Grandma's!!

Dale R.

Yelp
Terrible customer service if you are trying to deliver...not worth the money. I ordered one with a two day delivery that cost 20.00 and it arrived seven days later. I called them. And wrote a letter and they never responded. They just want to sell their Crisco-laden coffee cakes and don't care about customer service. It was over $53.00 to not get there in time. Never again!!!

J R.

Yelp
Just opened My Grandma's of New England coffee cake ordered from QVC. My son and I both had a small piece and now we both are burping up an aftertaste. He thinks the after taste is kerosene I think it tastes like formaldehyde.

Doug H.

Yelp
Simply the best coffee cake that I have ever eaten. So moist and so yummy. We got one for Easter and I ate more of it than I did the ham. We had the original cinnamon and walnut. I suggest buying two because you'll have the first one eaten in the first day. Really they are that good.

Pat M.

Yelp
i order groceries from a local small chain store..lately they are always out of blueberry.. can i order directly...i live in JP,MA ..just next door ...store is in west roxbury..is a Bros. chain,,,heip ..i love them all, but truly love blueberry

B. J. R.

Yelp
Very good and moist. However I like real butter in my coffee cakes and this one does not have that, so I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise quite good.
