"I learned that the Hyde Park bakery My Grandma’s of New England donated three coffee cakes to serve to the royals when Prince William and Kate were in town—granny smith apple, a “Red, White, and Blue Patriot” cake with cranberries and blueberries, and the bakery’s most popular cinnamon walnut—and owner Bob Katz then sent two more (chocolate and pineapple coconut) for the royals to bring home to the kids. Katz bought the 42-year-old, Newton-born bakery in 1993 and moved it to Hyde Park in 1997; the shop runs a mail-order business, stocks its cakes at many local grocery stores including Stop & Shop and Shaw’s, has seen its coffee cakes mentioned on TV shows like The Sopranos, and Katz expects to sell more than one million cakes this year." - Erika Adams
