"Tucked into a second floor space in Chinatown, My Thai Vegan Cafe serves up an extensive menu of vegan-friendly Thai favorites. Enjoy pad Thai, fried rice, and savory curries with your choice of veggie shrimp, chicken, and beef alternatives, plus tofu. Many dishes are camera-ready, like the “Bird’s Nest,” a nest woven with fried taro root and overflowing with colorful veggies and vegan proteins in a spicy green curry sauce." - Nathan Tavares, Celina Colby, Megan Hennessey, Eater Staff

Google
My Thai Vegan Cafe, Boston- Chinatown. First impressions are everything right? Well, this is not a fancy place. But you’re here to eat right? The dishes we had were standard Thai food. Nothing remarkable however. The Pad was not very flavorful. But ingredients were fresh. The soups were delicious though. Service is slow. Maybe a because of the holiday and short staffing. No one checked on our table if we needed extra water. Many choices to eat in Chinatown…. This place could be better!

Google
Great hidden gem in Chinatown. The menu is comparable to most Thai restaurants but everything is vegan of course, with a variety of proteins and meat substitutes. The vegetables are noticeably fresher than usual. The tom yum soup broth is delicious and fresh. The boba tea tastes homemade (taro was great!) I actually think it's the best thai food I have had in Boston, vegan or not. The ambience is decent, nice plants and windows, and not super crowded both times I came for dinner. Overall the vibe is friendly and relaxed. I will definitely make this a regular spot to try more of the menu.

Google
This is a fully vegan Thai restaurant located in Chinatown on the second floor. The stairs leading up to the restaurant are quite run-down and kinda sketchy. If I were the owners, I’d prioritize renovating them, as first impressions are important.... We ordered the pad thai, pad see ew, and tom yam soup. While you can’t compare them to traditional meat-based dishes, they’re decent options for vegan Thai food. The pad thai was bland, in my opinion. The pad see ew was my favorite dish of the day. Great smoky flavor. The tom yum soup felt like it was missing something and was overly sweet. This place is a good option if you're vegan and craving Thai food, which isn’t usually vegan-friendly. However, the dishes can be hit or miss. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here, but I wouldn’t mind returning to try other dishes.

I don’t know if it’s just what we got but the food’s pretty mid. Got the Bangkok Fried Rice and asked for it spicy and it came out only a little spicy. The fried rice lacked some flavor too. The Curry Vermicelli was somehow dry even though the noodles were covered in so much curry sauce. The veggies it came with were ok. Not sure I’d come back.

I visited My Thai Vegan Cafe two days ago with my friends, and I must say, the experience was mixed. Upon arrival, I requested a window-side table from a staff member, but he denied my request and directed us to a middle table attached to another one. This was quite disappointing and affected our initial impression. The food was good, which is a redeeming quality for the cafe. However, the service etiquette left much to be desired. The ambiance was average, nothing particularly noteworthy. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience, especially fellow Indians who might value a bit more attentiveness and hospitality.

Google
Delicious food and a very broad menu - and everything on it is vegan. So many items to choose from - what a delight for vegans like us to have a hard time choosing what to order. We had a great lunch with friends who definitely are not vegan and they thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Highly recommended.

Google
So this restaurant is pretty run down. When you enter through the staircase, you immediately see this bad condition. It gave the impression to me as if it would be a messy living room at the same time. However, I decided to stay and ordered a papaya salad without the veggie shrimps. This salad was ok, but unfortunately not spicy as described in the menu. And strange enough, there was a piece of tofu on the plate, which I did not order. And it was not as varied as you know it from other Thai restaurants. To drink I had a soft drink and this came with a glas and this was quite dirty. Only the staff was nice, but this didn‘t convince me to return in the future.

Yelp
Definitely one of my favorite vegan restaurants and honestly restaurants in general. The restaurant itself gives a very mom and pop feel. The seating area is clean and feels luxurious, and there's always some sort of project going on in the other side of the restaurant. The servers are all pleasant and helpful. On this particular Tuesday I had the L10 with vegan beef. The sauce was a delicious brown savory delight, and the vegetables and rice were perfectly cooked. It also came with a bowl of hot and sour soup that was honestly one of the best soups of this type I've had. 10/10, will come back again.

Yelp
Don't judge a book by its cover y'all! This place looks a little 90s, and the stairs definitely scare some people away, but I promise you the food, speed, and value make it worth a visit. This is my go-to restaurant in Chinatown as a college student because the portion sizes are huge despite low prices. I can pay $9 and have enough food for two meals, so I usually end up boxing some to take back home. The Vegan meat is delicious, and even my meat-obsessed boyfriend liked it. Vegetables always taste fresh, and the noodles give you that home-cooked meal vibe. Service is extremely fast, as it's not usually crowded, and that speed never detracts from the quality of the food. Overall would highly recommend if you're on a budget but miss your Grandma's cooking. Just don't go to the bathroom. The owners are a sweet older couple who are always nice to me so I'm rating this 5 stars, but the bathroom is seriously a nightmare, so either go before, or bring tissues and hand sanitizer.

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
I tried pineapple fried rice which was pretty dry and bit bland. I was expecting something with more flavorful but pineapple did not add much taste. The staffs were bit distant and not too much welcoming but by no means rude.

Lauren C.

Yelp
Omg, vegan Thai food? So hard to come by even vegetarian Thai food. This place is awesome. They are serving up comforting vegan renditions of classics like pad see ew and much more. The papaya salad and the summer rolls were nice lighter options. The tofu added to the papaya salad was excellent.

Yelp
Went back for the yellow curry specifically. I will say, they serve significantly more food for takeout than they do in-house. The building is deceiving of the quality of the cuisine and service. Will be back again.

Lizzie Y.

Yelp
OMG! I actually had no idea My Thai Vegan Cafe was vegan... even though it's in the name but I was just so hungry + didn't realize. I ordered a pad Thai one day when I was in the area. I ordered a veggie chicken pad Thai and it was absolutely delicious! I thought "veggie chicken" meant chicken with the addition of vegetables. I would've never known a meat substitute was used... literally tasted just like chicken. MUST GO if you're vegan and struggling to find a place with lots of dish options or even if you're looking for a new yummy Thai place to try :))

Linda G.

Yelp
Had take out from here, very very good. Daughter lives nearby and brought in lunch and we just loved it. Brought my folks to see their granddaughter's place and they loved the food. Every bite was excellent. Our favorite was the Pad See Ew which was so good, the noodles are obviously home made and sauce was subtle and very good.

Yelp
My Thai Vegan cafe is in Chinatown, Boston. The restaurant is on the second floor and has two sets of stairs you must ascend. Little narrow and steep but not bad. Just to let people know who may have trouble going up stairs. The interior has some plants by the windows. I think it was the husband and wife there in the late evening. There was only one other table that had patrons, so I was seated promptly, given my water, and the menu. The menu is all vegan and features an unbelievable huge menu. A lot of vegan meat dish options. I personally like that the menu is all plant-based, but when the menu is that large- chance is that there's a couple common bases with some modifications to create new dishes. My pad Thai was rather plain looking but tasted nice. The spices helped. Started off with the fried wontons, which were fine as well. I think that the strengths are that the place is entirely plant based, and there's no danger of having fish sauce or something that could make a seemingly vegetarian dish at a regular restaurant not so vegetarian. The food is fine, but it's honestly not wow. There were blogs that do recommend this place, and it's a good option for plant-based people in Chinatown area. But if I gave it a rating, I would give it a 3.9-4/5. Good, but not great. The total with the appetizer and the dish was $23.00 I did tip extra to show my appreciation. Out of 10, it's a solid 8.

Yelp
After watching a movie at AMC Boston Common 19, my friends and I were looking for a place to grab dinner. Since one of our friends is vegan, we came across My Thai Vegan Cafe and I'm so glad we did. This restaurant only serves vegan dishes. My Thai Vegan Cafe is located in Chinatown on the second floor. Going up the stairs of the building looked kinda shady and smelled weird, but the restaurant is spacious and has many greenery. When we arrived on Sunday evening, there were a few tables taken but we were seated right away. We ordered a few dishes to share and everything tasted delicious. The tow-hoo tod (crispy tofu cigars) was very crispy and sauce was very good. The pad see ew and pineapple fried rice was very good and flavorful. The pad thai wasn't as flavorful as the other dishes so I probably wouldn't get that again. Portions were a great size. Service was friendly. I would come back here.

Yelp
Don't you even think about letting the outside affect your inclination to immediately visit My Thai Vegan Cafe. Located up some questionable stairs on the second floor of a non-descript building in Chinatown, this unassuming vegan establishment is worth MANY visits. -Ambiance: what one would expect for a small, local business that places emphasis on the food, not the extras. That said, very comfy with a great view (because second floor). -Staff: friendly, welcoming, forthcoming with trustworthy recommendations. -Food: yes yes yes. Oh yes. EVERYTHING is vegan. EVERYTHING. As such, one can order vegan shrimp, vegan beef, vegan chicken, vegan duck, vegan pork, vegan veal, tofu, seitan, and bubble tea made with plant based milk. And we did. The steamed dumplings are packed with vegan chicken and veggies, beautifully seasoned, and accompanied by not ONE but TWO delicious dipping sauces. The Pad See Ew Plus (plus means you get multiple vegan proteins - definitely do this) was prepared expertly. I could have used a bit more sauce, but otherwise it was perfect. My dining companion raved about her yellow curry noodle soup; I tried a bite and it took most of my willpower not to steal it from her. -Value: excellent. For delicious, vegan, Thai food in Boston, absolutely worth it. I'm considering making many trips back to Boston with the sole purpose of trying many more dishes. You probably should too.

Chloe F.

Yelp
I want to give My Thai a higher rating because the staff were funny and friendly while waiting for my takeout order, but the food was just meh. I've had a ton of Thai curries in my day, and this on was lacking in flavor and the medium spice level was barely even mild. I'd give it another shot, but wouldn't get the curries.

Dharika S.

Yelp
Staff was mean, food is not that great. Feels gross inside. Called them and asked what time last seating was they said 9:30, got there at 9:29 and didnt let us sit and started yelling at us. Bubble tea was great

Mohan C.

Yelp
Honestly wasn't a huge fan of this restaurant. The interior is a little dinky, definitely a no-frills kind of establishment. The service is friendly and quick. They have a wide array of options, all vegan/vegetarian. We ordered the fried rice and green curry. Both dishes lacked flavor, and I felt that the green curry had an overly "pasty" taste to it. Unique concept, but the food here is solid at best.

Andres D.

Yelp
Absolutely atrocious. The curry is legitimately just a plate of soup, but like bad soup. Like vegetable oil mixed with food coloring. I'm convinced everything was artificially died vomit green. Even the tofu was dyed green, so that's probably toxic. The whole restaurant feels like a front. The service and ambiance did not seem like they knew they were a restaurant. Avoid avoid avoid.

Gil S.

Yelp
The place is ok, nothing fancy in terms of looks, probably could use an update. The service was really good and friendly. The food is so-so though. It's obviously all vegan but that's not the point, I think they can improve the flavor of some of the dishes, you don't need meat for that.

Mike M.

Yelp
Great food. Price is ok. The service not that great they need to do better with communication and customer service. The place looks deteriorated although it feels like a special atmosphere. Yes is a good option.

Jp D.

Yelp
Food OK but bit bland, service ok but somewhat grumpy. Wish they still had their fantastic dessert cakes, but they don't make them anymore, so no dessert.

Stephanie W.

Yelp
We've talked about trying this place for a while, so a pre birthday experience was the perfect excuse. I did not realize this was on the 2nd floor and that wall was sketchy. Sitting near the windows will give you a great view of Chinatown while dining. We were there before the pre dinner rush so I'm assuming that's why the service was so quick. We got all of our food pretty fast and it came out as it was done. Overall the food was really good. The food experience was similar to my pre-vegetarian days. The portions to price were very reasonable. I'd patron this location again.

Joyce K.

Yelp
A LOVELY spot for vegan Thai food in the heart of Chinatown! You have to walk up some sketchy stairs to get to it but the restaurant itself is nice - bright and airy, with tons of plants. They have a wide assortment of Thai dishes reimagined as vegan. I tried the chicken fried rice, and was super impressed by how realistic the chicken was. Everything was fresh, and portions were big. Service was efficient!

Mama L.

Yelp
This cafe has the BEST Vegan food in the area. I am really picky and have been to this establishment many times and am never disappointed. The food is freshly made and the service is friendly and welcoming. If you eat in the ambiance is perfect for a relaxing and calming atmosphere. I love it!

K C.

Yelp
The most extensive vegan menu that I've experienced in quite a while! Both dishes that we ordered were delicious! Great casual spot to grab lunch and I enjoyed the view from the second floor. Staff were friendly and fast. Looking forward to going back!

Richard S.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Had the fresh spring rolls, yellow noodles, and Tom Yum tow-foo (tofu!). Service was quick and place was packed with college students. Only complaint was the location was a bit difficult to locate even with the street sign (it's around the corner from the Pho restaurant at street level which we mistook for My Thai) and the stairwell was dirty and sketchy to get upstairs, could have been a lot better decorated.

Jeff K.

Yelp
Are you a vegan? Are you a Thai food fanatic?. Stop what you're doing, click the back button and search on...I am saving you. Service was good, but this is cash only so be very aware. Started with leek dumplings Tom kha (was somewhat watered down) Meal: Pad kee mao (was ok but tasty very salty/msg influenced.

Jeff I.

Yelp
If based on food alone, it would be 5 stars. I can't say enough about how delicious everything was. We got the avocado coconut curry dish and it was amazing. We also got the crispy spring rolls and cashew nut chicken. Everything was so flavorful . Waitress was very nice although language barrier was a little difficult but I'm cool with that. They even had some kind of incense or sage, not sure what, burning on a little altar. The only reason for not 5 stars is that the building could use a serious glow up. Very old and kind of falling apart. I don't think there was air conditioning. If so they had it very low on a very hot day. I hope we come back to Boston. Will definitely visit this place again.

Kerri M.

Yelp
I am happily surprised by how amazing the food here was. I'm not vegan but my favorite family member is & I had the pad Thai and it was utterly delicious! I strongly recommend the lemonade as well - it's worth every penny! Such outstanding flavors - we will be back!!

Jackie S.

Yelp
Always looking to try new foods, so my friends and I decided to try this restaurant. The restaurant was busy when we entered Immediately upon sitting, I felt very rushed to order. I am guessing that's because they were busy but still felt pressured. Shortly after ordering, the food arrived at the table. However, when we reached out to the staff to ask a couple of questions and to pay the bill, it took a while for them to come and address us

Abhishek S.

Yelp
Its close to boston common and we went for a quick dinner on Sunday night. Entry is little spooky and you have to go through stairs to 2nd floor for restaurant. Restaurant is ok. This was first time trying vegan for me and i dont think i am a big fan.

Ashish G.

Yelp
Delicious! Best vegan place in Boston city? I think so! Move over life alive. Try the bird's nest it is sooo good.

Marc C.

Yelp
Start with cleaning the floors, bathroom and stairs leading in. Junk piled in the corner of the dining room, and down the hall. We left after they poured the water.

Amanda S.

Yelp
Never disappoints and it's in the heart of Chinatown! great for vegan diets and non-vegans alike!

Justine B.

Yelp
Very cool vegan their experience in the heart of Chinatown. The bubble plant milk teas were excellent. The food was also very good, but on the oilier side. The soups were refreshing and warm on a cold winter day. The service is fast and atmosphere is beautifully decorated.

David F.

Yelp
This was just nasty. I ordered the ginger chicken very spicy and Roll Sod. There was the total absence of spicy and mock chicken. It was literally just boiled veggies in brown salt water (80% bamboo shoots). The peanut sauce for the rolls should have been called peanut juice because it was watery af! I hope this isn't indicative of Boston's vegan food scene. I got 3 more days here!!!

Jack S.

Yelp
Very kind personable staff, food was wonderful- the veggie meats are very akin to true meat. The inside of the restaurant is adorable, plants everywhere and a great view down onto downtown boston. Definitely will be returning to try more of the menu!

Daniel D.

Yelp
An Option for Everyone. During our visit to Boston, we gave My Thai Vegan Cafe a try. First and foremost, don't be alarmed when you walk in and don't find the restaurant, just head up the flight of stairs. Once you get to the restaurant you find yourself in a large room, with spacious seating, a good spot to enjoy a meal. One of the aspects that sets My Thai Vegan Cafe apart is the menu. It has dozens of items, so it is easy for anyone to find a dish that fits their preferred flavor profile. Additionally, dishes are decently portioned and go for around $10-15. The dishes we tried were a mixed bag. Some of them were delicious, full of flavor on every bite, while others were a bit underwhelming. But if you want tasty Thai food for a decent price, My Thay Vegan Cafe is a good choice. My Criteria 5 stars: The best food I have ever had, or an excellent option given the price. 4 stars: Good food, a restaurant I look forward to trying again. 3 stars: Good food, a restaurant that I am indifferent to. 2 stars: Below average experience, will not go again. 1 star: This restaurant should be closed.

Virginia R.

Yelp
PROS: Fantastic food, cute plants and atmosphere, great prices CONS: Slow service I love this place! I've been here so many times that I've tried most of the menu. My favorite dishes are the Ginger Tofu and Tom Yum Soup; both are delicious and subtly spicy. The Curry Vermicelli is also fresh and tasty and comes with a huge portion of veggies + noodles. Service can be a bit slow, but don't let it keep you away. The prices are fantastic and the food is always delicious (enjoyed by my vegetarian/vegan and meat-eating friends alike). This place is worth the visit!

Lani P.

Yelp
The food and service is subpar. My egg noodles came doused in WAY TOO MUCH sugar with a touch of soy sauce. Waiter was beyond rude to me. Instead of asking us to pay with one card took both cards, only swiped one and threw the bill on the table. On top that, he continued to insult me by basically calling me old and telling me that everyone pays with one card and Venmo's each other. Yeah, bruh, it's been around for years. I think the 5 stars are fake. Also, you can make better vegan Asian food at home.

Jenna K.

Yelp
I had the Pad Thai from this restaurant in a visit to Boston a few years back and have thought about it regularly ever since. Our group was a significant size, and we were still served promptly and cared for well during our visit

Daniela P.

Yelp
Service was horrible! Took my order, my appetizer (soup) came out with my meal and never saw the server again until I flagged him down to ask for the check. Food was just ok, but I was hungry and ate it. I was not given an itemized bill when paying, just a total and didn't realize I was overcharged until my walk back to my hotel. By the time I got back to the hotel, they were closed. I will be fighting this charge! Stay away!

Ashley K.

Yelp
I tried this place once and while it wasn't a great experience, I decided to give them one more try and regretted it. The food is bland with terrible service. You're better off ordering Chinese food and requesting no egg and no fish sauce. It's a great concept but there's way better vegan places in Boston.

Tal O.

Yelp
a vegan heaven! i've been wanting to try my thai vegan cafe for several months now and i'm so glad i finally had the opportunity to check them out! i was running errands in the area and quickly called to place an order before swinging by. the gentleman who answered the phone was very friendly and made online ordering smooth. when i arrived to the building, i got a little lost at first. the restaurant is upstairs, but i accidentally went downstairs. when i made it to the restaurant, my food was already ready! food review: i got the lunch special pad see ew with tofu. comes with soup and dumplings. the dumplings flavor weren't my favorite and it was a bit spicy. it was a hot day so i didn't eat the soup. but the pad see ew! IM OBSESSED! it was so flavorful and the tofu was cooked perfectly! im definitely gonna be ordering from here all the time! so excited to try more things on the menu and support a local business!!

Linda G.

Yelp
I love my Thai vegan Café. I started going there years ago when it was called Buddhist delight. At one point they had a second one on Harvard Street in Brookline that I used to frequent. They have a vast menu which is indeed delightful.

Grace L.

Yelp
I came here on Fourth of July and the wait was really long. They seemed really understaffed with one guy taking care of cleaning tables, handling online orders, and seating people. There was a lot of people in the restaurant and also waiting for a table. The food itself was really good and huge portions for the price. We got 2 noodle dishes (pad Thai and pad kee mow) and it was more than enough to share with 3 people. Each dish came with a variety of fake meats and tofu. I would skip the boba though - the boba was hard and was more like a slushie than an actual boba. It was funny because we could see the guy making the boba drinking boba from another place. To enter the restaurant, you have to go up a shady staircase but the restaurant itself is decently nice with a lot of windows. There is only one bathroom though so the line can get long. Overall, food was good and cheap, but the service was pretty slow.

Tarena Z.

Yelp
This place is BUSY! A full restaurant, meal delivery service people one after another, the phone rings almost off the hook. This makes service here pretty slow. We had to wait to order and for a water refill ( I finally got up to get my own). The staff was always working but it seems like they need to double the number of people working in order to really have attentive service. The plants! They are all so beautiful and healthy. The food! This is definitely what makes people come back! The food is absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the Birds nest. I am still thinking about it, weeks after my visit. I had issues with cleanliness in the bathroom as well. Its a weird space with some issues but INCREDIBLE FOOD!

Deepti N.

Yelp
Service was extremely slow with only few in the restaurant. Noodles and curry were pretty bland. And the dumplings were not even near to good. average Thai find in Boston.

Jenny R.

Yelp
My Thai Vegan Café was one of the main reasons I really wanted to go to Boston. Thai food is one of my fave foods ever, and a spot to where I can eat ALL THE THINGS, I had to The friends I were staying with also wanted to try, so we got a decent about of things. We got fried wontons and spring rolls, both filled with veggies and vegan chicken, Tom Yum Gai, Pad Thai , and and a special avocado medley with yellow curry Despite that it was taken out and not dine-in, the quality was still there Wontons and spring rolls were still crispy and the sauces that came with it were great, the soup was enjoyable, and for the Pad Thai, the "shrimp" was an odd texture, but the rest of it was amazing! Peanut lovers for sure The yellow curry was also good, had some with a bit of the tofu that came with it. It was totally worth getting dinner there tonight and the staff was very nice too I'll be back on my next Boston trip!

Olivia B.

Yelp
Food was hopelessly bland. Everything we ordered was flavorless and plain. The curry was thin, with undercooked vegetables. We ordered soup which was also bland, and the papaya salad which was also (surprise, surprise) bland.

Rachel C.

Yelp
Food is an 8/10 and service is a 9/10. I'm not vegan, but it's refreshing having an Asian restaurant that is also vegan. The food is delicious, and YOU NEED to try the mango fried rice (I think that's what it was). we got the lemongrass "chicken," and it was just ok. We got only a few pieces of "meat" and a lot of veggies. The pad thai was also very good! I love the ambiance. You get a nice view from the windows at night, and the place is very spacious. There was a little bit of a language barrier between us and the waitress, but she was very patient and kind. Would come again!!!

Lindsey P.

Yelp
To be honest I almost didn't walk up the stairs to the restaurant bc the entrance looked like a run down abandoned building but I'm so glad I did! After a cold day walking around historic Boston the Temple soup and cup of hot Jasmine tea were just what I needed. Both served hot, the soup was absolutely delicious featuring chunks of butternut squash and peanuts in hot coconut milk. I ordered spring rolls with peanut sauce that were filled with fresh ingredients - crunchy lettuce, sprouts, carrot and tofu. Wait staff very attentive and fast. Best of all everything vegan!
